Tales from Unicornios

Chapter 1

The sky was dark that day. Dark and stormy. The rain pelted down upon the unicorn guards as they dragged a lemon mare with a filthy grey mane out onto the small of the camp in which they worked and proceeded to smash her delicate frame into the ground continuously. They continued this until the mare was within an inch of her life, her face near unrecognisable and body horribly morphed and twisted only then was the wails of her young foal apparent to the group. The light blue filly had been screaming for them to cease their beatings ever since they had began her tiny malnourished form continuously attempting to brake free of the cage she had been locked in in order to watch her mothers suffering.

One of the guards turned to the filly sneering as she attempted to use the small horn atop her head to break free but her lack of knowledge in magic led to her horn just glowing for a few seconds before the small light fainted

"It's disgusting that that thing had to be blessed with being the same species as us." She sneers before walking up to the cage her own horn glowing and sending the filly flying to the back of the cage. The filly lets out a yelp before collapsing to the filthy floor of the cage, tears streaming down her face. The guard smirked at the pitiful sight before her, the weapon attached to her side suddenly lit up and moved towards the filly when a voice stopped it

"Stop that you idiot guard." A dark blue stallion stood at the doorway the guards had previously used to drag the mare and her child through. His light blue mane falling on his face as the heavy rain weighed it down but his steely grey eyes were still visible and glaring menacingly at the female guard who was paling more and more with every second that stare was squarely on her

"S-sorry sir..." her weapon returns to her side as she lowers her head and walks back over to the rest of the guards whom are all snickering at her childish behaviour but cease when the blue Stallion turns his stare onto them. He walks over to the group of guards who part as he walks through them towards the bloodied and bruised mare whose one good eye looks up to him, anger swirling with its pinkish red depths

"Y-you..." She gargles in spite towards the stallion who simply smiles down at her coldly

"Oh you little insect." He places his hoof gently on her bashed head "I gifted you with that creature over there." He forcefully turns her head towards the little filly who was now back on her hooves and crying for her mother again "You were even blessed with a Unicorn child," he snickers as the mare under his hoof tries in vain to reach out to her foal

"Jynx.." She gargles as the filly attempts to break free from her entrapment once again. The Stallion lifts his hoof from the mare and lifts her up with his magic

"So you named it Jynx?" Walking over to the cage the filly was in he throws her towards the rusted bars "How typical of an earth pony to name their child so horridly." The mare says something incomprehensible as her foal rushes to her and gently hugs her mother

"Jynx." The filly looks up to the stallion but doesn't move away from her mother for a moment "this creature is vermin." his magic raises up a rusted iron bar that had been sinking into mud and slams it onto the mare before him causing her to give a inaudible screech and the filly to cry out and attempt to cover her mothers misshapen body but the bars stopped her tiny hooves from being able to reach much of the mare "However we are the superior species, our horns show our great potential to be truly powerful beings." The filly glares at him as he leans down to her level. He chuckles at her attempt at intimidating him "Clearly I am not getting through to you" he sighs and stand up straight but as he does the filly uses his opportune stature to spit in his eye

"I don't care if I have a horn!" The filly rasps out, clearly not used to using her voice "I'd rather be like my mumma than you or any other uni-unicorn," Jynx coughs a little but keeps her firm stare on the stallion as he wipes his eye and glares back at her

"So you want to be like your mother do you?" he chuckles darkly as he lifts small dagger up from his side "We'll see about that." The filly's eyes widen in shock as she realises what his intentions are

"N-no!" the filly watched in horror as the dagger was driven deep into her mothers back and she lets out a violent screech that slowly silences "M-mumma....?" The filly whispers as the light in her mothers eyes dulls "Mumma no! don't sleep mumma please don't sleep!" tears begin streaming down the filly's face as she desperately reaches for the limp body of her mother, even trying to reach her with her magic but her horn barely lights as she scream and wails at her mother as she is dragged away by unicorn guards. The stallion turns away from the crying child and follows the other guards away

"Sir?" one guard speaks up motioning to the filly who was now slightly engulfed by the muddy ground "What do we do with that?"

"Leave it. If she wants to be a mud pony then she can live in the mud."  The stallion then leaves the group to finish their duties.

For the rest of that day and for many after the young filly sat in her rusted roofless cage at first loudly screeching and wailing for her mother to return to her but as the days went on and her throat dried up it diminished to silent weeping then she collapsed onto the filthy ground and did not arise. Many thought she was dead until they looked closer and saw the small breaths that escaped from her emaciated form every now and then until the day a new group of earth ponies and flightless pegasi walked in. They were a group sent from another camp that had gotten too large and had to move some of their members to less populated camps and amongst this group was a small peachy filly around the same age as the silent child.

One day during the small brake she got from her many many hours of work the filly approached the cage and nudged Jynx. At first she thought the filly wasn't going to respond but she noticed her eyes briefly flick up to her then back down to the patch of dirt they had been focused on for the past few days however the peach filly took this as a positive sign and sat down as close to the other filly as she could

"What's your name?" she nudged the caged filly again but she didn't respond "Everypony calls me FairyBlossom but I like faye more cause that's what mama calls me." after saying this the filly's ears flop down "Called me.." Jynx slowly raises her head to look meekly at the filly just outside her confinement. FairyBlossom shook her head and smiled at her "Sorry." she giggles as the dust that was in her mane settles around her

"J-J.." Jynx began trying to speak but found her voice had left her. FairyBlossom tilted her head slightly as she watched the other filly attempt to speak

"Juniper berry? Jupiter? Jam?" She guessed all the words beginning with J that she knew hoping she could be lucky enough to correctly guess the filly's name however all this got was a wheezing sound that was meant to be a laugh. After a day or two of FairyBlossom attempting to have a conversation with Jynx she finally got the idea to write in the dirt.

"If we do this we can talk to each other properly!" she grinned gleefully at her great breakthough before crudely scribbling in the ground with her hoof

'Whats your name?' Jynx smiled at finally being able to tell this awfully cheerful filly her name after days of her guesses

Im Jynx its nice to meet you fay FairyBlossom laughs at the spelling of her nickname when a guard walks up to her

"This slave is currently facing punishment." He pulls Faye away with his magic "There is to be no contact with it."

"But why?" Faye asks looking up to the guard but cowers away when he lifts his weapon "Don't talk to me vermin!" He lifts her up by her mane revealing her right ear or lack thereof  and the blood that had crusted all around what ragged skin was left of her ear. The guard smirks at her injury

"Well it seems you've already been punished for your disobedience." The guard throws her down and walks away back to the other slaves proclaiming that their break was up

"I-I gotta go...." FairyBlossom got up and began walking towards the others her ear pinned down to her head and small tears forming on her face "Bye,"

Jynx watches her friend leave, well she wouldn't call them friends but that sounded nicer than anything else she could think of, she lays back down on the ground and looked down at the brief chat they had been able to have before being interrupted.

As the years passed Jynx and Faye got to know each other much better. At one point she was allowed out of her prison only to live the daily life of hell that the ponies under this servitude had to live which many referred to as like living in Tartarus or worse than so yet every day despite the cruel treatment of the guards and any other unicorns that visited Faye was forever as bright as the sun in her outlook on life, always believing that goodness was just around the corner despite her friends more negative views.
