The heavy downpour felt like a waterfall as the droplets attacked the three alicorns and draconequus, matching the somber mood perfectly. They were standing in front of a tombstone, or at least the ponies were. The draconequus, Discord, was pressing his head against the grave, crying silently, and running his eagle talon over the three engraved butterflies. His wife, Fluttershy's, cutie mark. She was recently buried after being found dead in her cottage while Discord was away in canterlot. Only a week after Rainbow Dash had died of a rare cancer, by the time the doctors were able to forcefully amputate the wing that it started in, it was too late and the cancer had spread to the rest of her body. Applejack had died from exhaustion after overworking herself. Sombra stayed at her grave for two weeks. Pinkie Pie died of natural causes in her sleep. Rarity died prematurely from a rock slide during a jewel hunt, which caused a crushed, broken Spike to wander aimlessly around town muttering 'it should have been me' and 'I should have been there' before disappearing. Now it was the Summer Sun Celebration, the anniversary of Twilight discovering the magic of friendship for herself and the anniversary of her meeting her best friends. Now they were all dead.

Celestia draped a wing over Twilight, who realized there were tears running down her face, staining her lavender fur dark purple.

"I'm sorry Twilight, I know this must be hard for you. Discord and Sombra are going through the same thing, they lost their loved ones as well, they know how you feel. You're not alone." Celestia nuzzled her student.

Twilight pushed away, crying, "Shut up! Don't try to comfort me when you aren't feeling half as bad as I am!"

Celestia stayed silent. Twilight had never yelled at her before. Even Luna was taken aback.

"I... I have to go..." With those words, Twilight teleported away, leaving two shocked princesses in her wake.

Twilight ran into Sombra when she arrived at Sweet Apple Acres, thinking it would be silent.

"Hello Twilight..." Sombra addressed her in a hoarse raspy voice. It was evident he had been crying.

The once powerful king was slouching and looked emancipated and weak.

"Hey Sombra..."

"It... It kinda sucks being immortal sometimes doesn't it,"His voice cracked and he started to cry, "Can't die by natural causes... you have to watch everyone you love die..."

"Yea... Flash died, my friends died... Discord lost Fluttershy... You lost Applejack..." Twilight looked up at the shaking frame of Sombra, realizing what she had said. "I- I'm sorry..."

"It's alright Twilight... She was a wonderful mare and she lived a full life. I will still miss her though. Everyone will."

"Well, I'm going to go home..."

"Take care, Twilight."

Twilight nodded and teleported to her room in the castle. She needed to cry but there was nothing left. Her eyes were red and puffy and her tear ducts were empty. In her barely functioning, clouded mind, she got an idea. She couldn't die from natural causes like sickness or age. But what about wounds? She made her way to the basement, then remembered she could teleport and used the spell to get to the basement. She quickly locked the door and found a piece of parchment and a quill. Twilight flattened the parchment on the table and grasped the quill with a levitation spell. This was it.

Dear Princess Celestia,

I'm sorry for yelling at you, and I hope you can forgive me for both that... and what I am about to do. I cannot bear to live anymore without my dearest friends. You were not close to them like I was, you don't know the pain I am in. Ever since Rarity died and spike disappeared I've been dealing with overwhelming depression. I knew that with my friends I could conquer anything! But now they're dead. They're all dead and there's nothing I can do! I can't take it anymore! I have to see them again... I don't want to hurt anypony... I'm doing this for myself, selfish, I know, but I have to do this. By the time you read this it will be too late. Tell all my friends all my remaining friends that I love them.

Your faithful student (writing to you for the last time,)

Twilight Sparkle

P.S. I am in the castle basement if you want to retrieve my body.

Twilight set the note down and rolled it up. She used a spell that would deliver it to Celestia in an hour. Twilight sobbed silently, she was committed. There was no turning back now. She concentrated and conjured a blade of magenta energy. Twilight then turned her arm over and lowered the blade, then moved it down and to the side quickly. Twilight screamed in pain as the small, clean cut started to bleed heavily. She made another, much smaller, cut which dark crimson blood trickled out of. She screamed again. I felt so horrible... But also amazing. She kept cutting deeper and deeper into her soft flesh, the blood staining her beautiful coat a very dark red. She cut extremely hard, making a large slash in her bone. She cried out, losing concentration as she fell to the ground, writhing in pain. She quickly got up and summoned the blade. Twilight didn't even recognize herself, she had fallen into a puddle of blood and moved around so much that all of her fur, even her mane and horn, were a deep, dark crimson color. Quickly she got back to her task, she was running out of time. The letter would be sent soon, and there was no doubt in Twilight's mind that Celestia would be there as soon as she read it. Twilight sliced through the bone, and cut her hoof off. She was feeling light- headed. That was a good sign, she would soon die of blood loss.

She was consumed with insanity and a lust for pain, for death. Twilight stabbed the magic blade into her right cutie mark and butchered it, leaving ribbons of flesh and an unrecognizable cutie mark. She left the other one alone so Celestia would know that it was her. She cut open her stomach area causing her organs to spill onto the floor, though still attached.

Celestia opened her eyes as a scroll materialized in front of her. The magic signature was certainly Twilight's. Celestia read the letter and worry was etched into her face. It only took two teleports to get to the basement of the castle in Ponyville... Where she spotted her prized pupil falling to the ground onto a pile of organs in a puddle of blood, eyes closed.

"NO!" Celestia rushed to her student. But it was too late. Twilight had successfully committed suicide. Celestia looked over the mangled corpse of Twilight. She cried and nuzzled it, then cast a spell to preserve the remains and teleported with it to Canterlot to arrange a funeral. Everyone felt grief when the news spread. But no one could do anything. Twilight was dead forever.
