A chat with Celestia and a dash of irrepressible curiosity leads Twilight upon a journey to uncover the secrets of the ancient past, of the time long before the rise of Ponykind and the foundation of Equestria. Her search will uncover the traces of an ancient war that was waged to decide the fate of all Creation and of the origins of the Sun and the Moon and the Stars… and even of the Two Sisters themselves.

But as Twilight will soon learn, the past has a way of catching up with the present. Twice before have the forces of good and evil clashed, and twice before have the forces of darkness been beaten back at great cost. Now, in the twilight of the Third Age of Harmony, ancient things both wondrous and terrible are stirring from their Ages-long slumber. Battle lines millennia old are being drawn anew and a war that has long been in abeyance once more clouds the horizon.
