Chapter 1: Prologue

A pair of dull lifeless eye's gazed out at nothing, the guard's cold face was frozen in horror and a trail of dry blood ran from his lips, his head resting upon the marble floor.

Luna looked down at the lifeless eye's of one of her guards without a speck of remorse or pity, she just glared blankly with a small scowl. What had caused this nightguard's early demise? he'd clocked out of work 5 minutes early. But Luna expected, nay Demanded better of her own.

'What does it matter' she mused, 'Mortal lives mean nothing, everyday they get up just to slowly die, there sad little existence has no impact upon the flow of history'. Over the past 400 years she'd harbored a bitter resentment of all her subjects, They shunned her hard work, and in return for her diligence and fair rule they feared her. Now with good reason.

Over the past century her resentment had grown into hate, her frustrations with her subjects rising uncontrollably, these pathetic beings dared ignore and despise her who sacrificed so much for their freedoms and happiness, and yet loved her sister with all of their hearts. It just wasn't fair, every night was the same, she'd get up and attend an empty court. Ignored, shunned, despised. The loneliness was crushing her and over time she grew independent of the need for company, her heart became a fortress, let nothing in and nothing may harm you.

Slowly but surely her opinion of mortal ponies went downhill, until she stopped caring about them altogether. She saw them more as objects them sentient beings now, tools to be used for her own amusement and gain. She grew to love how they cowered in her mere presence, bowing profusely and sprouting praise over poorly disguised fear   'They were made to be ruled' she mused, 'Such pathetic creatures, they desire subjugation, is not their natural state below us' in her opinion, ponies always craved a simple life, a life of servitude. Truly these things were beneath her, she and her sister were the only beings that actually mattered in this world, that made any kind of impact.

Her scowl deepened measurably, "So why doth our dear sister, choose them" she spat with venom "OVER US!", and it was true, in Luna's mind her sister placed these things above her, Celestia cared more for the mortals then she ever did for her very flesh and blood. And it pissed her off to no end. She loved her sister very dealy, but they barely ever spoke and if they ever did it was between the fleeting moments of twilight where they crossed over, if and only if they somehow passed one another. And it hurt, it felt like her heart was physically breaking every-time she got a causal short greeting and or glance from her sister and nothing more.

And once her sister began taking on students it all became so clear. Celestia didn't even care about her. She spent vast amounts of time tending to children that would die in a blink of an eye, a pointless emotional investment. Yet she'd rather do this then even spend a moment to catch up with her own sister. Celestia would spend hours loving and teaching these things and yet not spare even a minute for her, she even cut off their already short conversations saying she'd need her sleep for busy days ahead. It was in her opinion, disgusting.

Her anger was rising, she thought back to the not so distant past where she'd sometimes take time out of her schedule to visit Celestia, only to be berated for "neglecting your subjects". It hurt more then anything, and her sister had never once come to visit her. Not even a friendly conversation.

She glared venomously down upon the guard she'd slayed earlier, gritting her teeth she let out a hateful growl and kicked the already bruised corpse, "how dare she!" she kicked it again. Her subjects hated her, he sister could not care less. She hated everything. Gripping the corpse in her magic, she flung it into a nearby ebony pillar where it collided with a Crack, and then fell limply to the ground. She stomped over to the broken corpse, now gathering a pool of blood and twisted horribly, she began pounding her hooves upon it with great force. What little remained of the guards ribs cracked and sprouts of blood spewed from it's mouth.

It wasn't fair, *crack*

She hated everything *crack*

*Thud*  *Thud*

*Thud*   *Thud*  *crack*

*Thud*  *Thud*

*squelch* She stopped suddenly, realizing her eye's were closed. She ran a foreleg over her black face and mouth wiping away spatters of blood. Opening her eye's, her spitted pupils shrunk in shock as she gazed upon the mess she'd made of the body, gasping she turn around and sat facing away from the gruesome sight she'd created. (Author:Expand on this part).

Luna gazed blankly at the floor, she felt numb, shocked that'd she'd do such a thing, but remorse was not among what she was feeling. She felt confused, hurt, angry, bitter. Nightmare moon began wiping the blood from her body, a few tears ran down her muzzle and she started sobbing hysterically, she'd had enough. Nightmare Moon would bring about an everlasting night, her subjects would die, and her sister would pay the price for her neglect.
