The young unicorn was idly sucking at the end of a quill as she stared at the piece of paper levitating in front of her nose. A tinge of cyan magic surrounded the quill and paper, and the unicorns hooves were calmly crossed in front of her. Her name was Lyra Heartstrings. Green from head to hoof, green of mane, and amber of eye, she was a rather attractive unicorn. A single streak of white lay on either side of her mane, and curled down the centre of the tail. Completing her look was a golden harp on her flank, her instrument of choice.
Lyra was in a relationship with BonBon, an earth pony who was currently sleeping upstairs. The light of a solitary candle was the only light in the room as Lyra observed her picture.
It was a human. At least, that’s what she called them. They were funny creatures, walking on two legs instead of four. She had created the concept for them herself; or more accurately, she had awoken with them fully in mind one night after some very vivid nightmares.
They were strange creatures. They could speak, like ponies did, and they came in different colours, but that was all. There were no wings, and no horns. They had no magic. And clothes. Very wide mouth, and hair. And eyes that were far too small when compared to a pony. They didn’t even have tails. And no fur! The only fur they had was on their head.
Lyra had no idea why she had created such a bizarre creature, but they were fully conceptualised when she awoke. And she drew many, many pictures of them. They were plain, uninteresting, but they had one redeeming quality in her mind.
Hands.
Fingers.
The unicorn had no idea why she was so attracted to the idea of hands and fingers. But they were magical. She could see how they would work! The young unicorn sighed faintly as she added a line to her drawing, and then set aside the quill and paper for the day, laying her head on her hooves to nap. It was late, and it was time to sleep. No creature was stirring, and she was tired.
Outside her window, a pair of green eyes narrowed in the darkness, and their owner smiled.

Something awoke Lyra a few minutes later. There was no sound to nudge her from her nap; but suddenly, she was wide-awake. Her eyes blinked open in time to catch a fading green glow from somewhere nearby, and she was suddenly filled with the knowledge that someone was in the room with her. She didn’t know how she knew. She just knew.
“B-Bonbon?” she called uncertainly, lifting her head from her hooves and peeking over the edge of the couch, willing her eyes to permeate the shadows of the room.
No answer was forthcoming from the darkness, and the young unicorn shifted slightly, as though to climb down off the couch.
Lyra yelped as she felt a touch against her neck, and spun around on the couch, staring with wide eyes as she caught sight of a dark shape. She almost screamed, but a finger gently touched at her lips, silencing her.
A finger.
The unicorn stared, stunned. It was a human. A human in her living room.
It was taller than her. Much, much taller. About a third again as tall. If it were to get down on all fours, it would be the same height as her, really. But looking it over, she realised that it was never intended to travel like that. It’s legs were huge. They were kind of thin at the bottom, and terminated in a flat kind of paddle shape. But they thickened up higher, becoming quite large where they joined the hips. And the joint! It was backwards. The humans legs bent forwards instead of backwards. It was bizarre! And yet it was just like she had imagined!
Up from the hips, it was kind of round, barrel-shaped, almost, except squashed across the middle like someone had stepped on its chest too hard. Lyra could only stare, flabberghasted.
“But...what...I...you...” she stuttered, shaking her head for a moment and biting her tongue rather harshly to try and job herself from the dream. She squeaked faintly as she felt very real pain, and then stared at the human again.
The human just shook its head, and then smiled at her, revealing a row of neat, orderly white teeth. Kind of like her own teeth, really. But the ones at the side were pointed. Lyra knew that animals only needed pointed teeth if they wanted to eat meat. The human wasn’t going to eat her, was it?!
Whimpering faintly, she backpedaled to the end of the couch, stammering a rebuke at the human. “W-what are you d-doing here? I-I know magic!”
The human just smiled at her again, lifting its hand to reach out for her.
Lyra whimpered faintly, but allowed that strange, spindly object to brush against the side of her face, flinching just a little as it touched her fur. “B-Bonbon is upstairs,” she whispered, pulling back to stare at the human for a long moment.
