Chapter 5: broken

"Shadow, Shadow! SHADOW!!!" Arynnae screamed, pushing against Shadow in a vain attempt at awakening him. Not too long ago, she had awakened to see if her socks had dried off. Seeing that they did, she placed them over her hooves and legs before making her way back into the bathroom, grabbing her collar and looking herself over in the mirror, thinking about so many things as she stared into the mirror at herself, such as why Shadow Rift stayed with her as long as he did. She knew that she was good looking enough to stay with him, let alone date him, but in most articles she read about him he normally dated a mare a day and then never see them again. What made her different?

Grabbing her arm, she smiled as the idea ran through her mind of what could have made him stay, blushing as she went deeper into the thought. Nothing would have made her happier than for Shadow to tell her that he felt the same way about her. That she was all he could think about, that no matter what he did, she was the only thing that he could think of.

That he loved her...

She sighed. The idea was very far fetched and highly unbelievable to occur, especially considering how he had only met her just yesterday, but she wanted to hear it more then anything in her life. She wanted to tell him that she loved him, that she needed him in her life more than anything else in the world. But how do you tell somepony that you love them and need them?

"Arynnae...!"

"Shadow?" She said, making her way out of the bathroom and running back into him, attempting to awaken him as tears ran down his eyes and his talking became blubbering speeches. "Shadow! SHADOW WAKE UP!!!!" She screamed.

"Arynnae!!" He scream, waking up to see the blonde mare in his arms, a pained expression are her face as she looked up at him. "Shadow? What happened? Are you-" silencing her with his lips, Shadow pulled her into a passionate kiss, wrapping his wings and arms around her tightly. Arynnae, though slightly confused, affectionately returned his kiss, placing her arms over his shoulders as their tongues danced in their mouths. Pulling away from her, Shadow Rift looked Arynnae in her eyes, his own being bloodshot from his tears with some still visible in his eyes, waiting to fall. "I'm sorry..." He said with a somber tone, still shaken from his experience, "Did I wake you up?"

"Shadow..." She said, her eyes now collecting tears. To most ponies, Shadow Rift was a cocky, energetic daredevil who's fears were none existent. No pony had ever seen him the way Arynnae has seen him now.

And it was something Shadow Rift hated her seeing...

"What happened...?" Arynnae asked, raising her hoof up to his eye and rubbing away the tears in it before moving to the next, stopping as Shadow grabbed her by her wrist and took her hoof away from his face. "I hated you seeing me like that..." He said, his tone still somber as he held her hoof in his own. "Please Shadow... What happened?"

He sighed, "It was just a bad dream... A very bad dream... Nothing more. It's over..."

"Shadow... You were crying... What was it?"

Shadow closed his eyes tightly as he heard Arynnae tell him that. "Forget it..."

"Shadow..."

"I said FORGET IT!!!" Shadow screamed, an angered look in his eyes as he did, making Arynnae shrink into him with fear, her tears nearly reaching breaking point. "Oh Celestia, no Arynnae I'm sorry please I didn't... I..." Shadow said, raising his hooves over his head, hiding his faces with his arms as the tears came back.

"He's right... I don't deserve you. I'm an animal..."

"Shadow... It's... It's alright I forgive-"

"Stop!" He said, pointing a hoof towards her as he shouted once again, his voice cracking as tears fell down from his eyes. "Sh-Shadow..." Arynnae said, her own voice cracking as she raised her hooves up to her mouth, tears now flowing freely down her face. "Leave... Just leave... You can't stay here..." He said, his eyes now buried into arm and releasing tears into it. "Shadow please! Just tell me what's wrong" Arynnae said through her tears.

"Get out..." He said, raising a hoof towards his apartments door. "No..." She said, shaking her head as she looked back at Shadow Rift, "I'm not leaving!"

"Get out..." He said blankly

"Please Shadow..." She said once again through her tears, lying back down on Shadow's chest, gripping him tightly as she shut her eyes, "I love you..."

Looking down at her with blood shot eyes, Shadow Rift blankly stared at her. "Get... Out... Now..." He said through clenched teeth.

She had no idea what to do, and when Arynnae heard his words, she couldn't help but feel hurt as she heard the venom leaking from his voice. Slowly rising from Shadow, she made her slowly to his door, the feeling of heart break, disappointment, and betrayal drowning over her as she made it to the door, looking back at Shadow Rift with bloodshot eyes.

"I love you..." She said breathlessly as she walked out of his apartment and into the night.

Author's Note

A story about heartbreak is hard to read. A story based on a real life heartbreak is even harder to read. When your the one who caused it, it's even more difficult to write. I almost didn't want to release this. Sorry if it's bad, short, or dark...
