“Chernobog is online, moving to engage.”
“Warning! Kaiju detected!” The alarms blared, jolting me awake. I groaned as i sat up, looking at the clock in my room; it was 5 in the morning. I pushed the intercom button and it linked to the command deck.
“Please tell me this is a glitch in the system.” I said, and started grabbing a cup of coffee and a smoke. It was only 30 seconds before i got a reply, from the marshal himself.
“I’m afraid not, you’re being deployed. Since Dauntless Outlaw and Stalwart Cowboy are in for repairs, you are only one available to stop this thing from taking the city out.” The intercoms turned off, and strolled out onto the command deck to get suited up.
“Then what about Caduceus, Levithian, and Woodland Thrasher?” i asked as soon as i got to the command deck.
“They are currently on their way back from halfway across the world protecting 3 different cities. They should be back tonight.”
After a few minutes, i was fully dressed in my drivesuit and i proceeded to head out to my jeager. The jeager bay was massive, but an inhabitant immediately drew my eyes to it as i ascended the elevator to the entrance platform. I reached the top catwalk and i was greeted by the site of my jaeger, Chernobog. Chernobog is the tank-like jeager that is always holding the defensive line. When Cherno Alpha went down, it was melted down, and its steel was used in the creation of the metal that my jeager is made out of; Depleted Uranium. Chernobog is just Cherno Alpha on some serious steroids. It is 400 feet tall instead of 280, its speed is increased to ten, strength and armor have been increased to 18. The powerplant is a prototype antimatter reaction chamber, and can put out enough power to send my jaeger into overdrive mode, increasing its speed for a brief moment. The paint has went from green to black and cerulean blue digital camo, and the weight is 48,640 tons; more than twice of any other jeager currently in the service with soon-to-be 28 kills.
I stepped into the conpod, which is recessed back behind the original one and above it, the original one can still be used, but i prefer to use it as a decoy. I hooked into the rig that allows me to drift with the jeager, and started to run a pre-battle diagnostics test.
“Drift sequence initiated.” i said into the comms, and started to drift with the jeager. In a flash of memories of my life, and memories of the machine that was my other half, the mind link was complete.
“Loccent, run the test.”
“Reactor?”
“90% stability and rising.”
“Energy levels?”
“Maximum capacity.”
“Plasma fuel?”
“Storage is full.”
“AKM’s?”
“Full salvo is loaded.”
“Tesla cells?”
“Maximum capacity.”
“Alright, all systems nominal. Loccent, ready to deploy.” I spoke into the microphone within the helmet. I felt a slight rumble as the helicopters connected to my jeager, preparing for takeoff. With a lurch, the 48 thousand ton robot started to slowly lift off the ground. We soon cleared the roof, and started moving out above the harbor.
“Whats the status of our mystery guest?” I asked, using the machines instruments to see further out into the water.
“Its a category 8, and is 17,600 tons in weight. Not in ego.” The lead chopper pilot reported.
“What’s our progress?” I asked as i saw a small upwelling in the water rise up about 3 miles away.
“Crossing the 1 kilometer mark.” The lead chopper radioed in, flashing its spotlight once. The upwelling in the water had gotten larger, and was moving much faster than before. Trails of bioluminescent light started showing through the water as giant plate-like protrusions started surfacing.
“Kaiju spotted!” i shouted over the radio, cranking up the reactor to maximum output and readying myself for the drop.
“Deploying Chernobog.” The lead chopper pilot radioed in, followed by the sound of cables disconnecting and the sudden feeling of weightlessness.
With a massive impact, 48,000 tons of masterfully crafted metal slammed feet first into the water, creating a massive splash and sending a wave across the harbor. With a mechanical whine i started to stand up. The reactor started reaching maximum output, making the sound of dozens of jet engines as it did so. The interconnected panels on my chest started to open, revealing the AKM’s and then closing. While all this was happening, the light housing on the reactor started ascending the distance to near the top. With a massive, low-rumbling foghorn blast i started to close my fists, ready to battle.
“Chernobog is online, moving to engage.” I reported as i started to move forwards, with every step sending up a plume of water. The entire world seemed silent as i made my way to the entrance of the harbor, with only my footsteps and my breathing cutting through the silence. The kaiju emerged from the water, overturning a cargo ship as it did so. The monstrosity before me was around 500 feet tall, and looked like a cross between a rhino, a stegosaurus, and a wolf. I have to admit, the thing looked badass. I blasted my horn at it, and started to get its attention. The creature took off towards me, tearing through the water and preparing to lunge. The monster got within 300 meters of me, prompting me to lunge forward and slam my fist into the side of its head, which staggered it, giving me an opportunity to hit it again. The chance was robbed from me when the creature recovered extremely fast, and tried to shove me onto my back. I proceeded to knee it in the ribs until it let go of me, moving out of reach. The distance was crossed within a second as i rushed forward, grabbing ahold of its shoulders and delivering an extremely brutal headbutt which shattered bone and sent blood flying. The kaiju seemed momentarily dazed, and didn’t have time to move itself as i proceeded to pummel it’s chest until it broke open, exposing the ribs a little and seeping blood. It attempted to lock into a power struggle with me, shoving me back a whole 3 meters before it couldn’t move me at all. I unleashed all the pent up electric energy in my hands, electrocuting the kaiju until it looked like we decided to play a game of “uncle”. Vulnerable, the kaiju could only roar at me as i crushed its hands/claws/whatevers and ripped them off. I grabbed it by under its shoulders, and threw it into the water. The kaiju got back up and appeared to stop to recollect itself for a moment before it roared at me again, this time it was challenging me. I decided to taunt it as well.
“You wanna throw down?!” I yelled into the loudspeaker, slamming my fists together in a perfect imitation of Cherno Alpha’s taunt. The beast started moving towards me cautiously, as if to find any exploitable weaknesses. It found none. I put my left arm forwards, to feign a grabbing move, and brought my right arm up in a piston fist uppercut, which sent it reeling back. The kaiju then tried to tear my arm off, but was unceremoniously picked up and slammed onto its back. I saw that it was trying to get up, so i slammed it back down again, and it tried once more, so i slammed my foot down on its chest , shattering the chest and causing blood to start pouring into its lungs. I grabbed ahold of its head, and proceeded to beat it until it broke open as well. I grabbed ahold if its exposed brain, and ripped it out. Normally, that would kill anything, but a kaiju is so large that it requires a second brain. Now you see the problem. The kaiju tried to get up again.
“Holy shit!” i yelled, and proceeded to tear its chest apart, ripping out its ribcage and exposing its heart. The kaiju couldn’t fight back when i was crushing its heart. With an almighty explosion of blood and gore, its chest cavity exploded, and then caved in, finally ending the fight.
“LOCCENT, Chernobog has its 28th kill, heading back to the barn.”
“I wouldn’t do that, there’s 2 more kaiju coming to you, both category 9, the first of their kind.” The marshal replied, and then i turned to face the incoming threat.
“ETA on those kaiju’s?” I asked, scanning the water for any signs of their arrival.
“Any minute now.” The marshal radioed in, with fear echoing in his voice.
A glow started to appear in the water in front of me, and it got brighter and brighter. It looked like another breach, but this was circular and pulsating.
“Uh, marshal? There appears to be a portal forming about 2 miles from the coast.” i radioed in, and got a quick reply.
“Okay then, where did it come from?”
“I don’t know sir, but it might be another breach.” I replied, full of worry.
“I know that, but your orders are to kill the kaiju, not play explorer.”
“Yes sir.” i begrudgingly replied.
The water at the head of the harbor started to well upwards, and exploded as the first kaiju started to reveal itself, roaring so loud i had to take a step back.
“Well, shit.” i muttered, and got into a defensive stance in front of the portal as the kaiju charged towards me. The kaiju launched itself at me, almost knocking me down and hitting me repeatedly, forcing me to headbutt it to knock it back. The beast launched at me again, and was caught by a hit to the chest by two fully charged tesla fists which stunned the beast. I brought my arms above my headpiece/reactor and slammed both of them down on its head, knocking it down and stunning it once more. The monster tried to get a grip in my one arm, but got kicked in the side of the head, knocking it down a little more. The kaiju then threw itself at me again, forcing me to back up and grapple with it.
“Not this time, asshole!” I yelled and proceeded to knock it down and stomp on it multiple times, all while the kaiju kept grabbing onto my legs, trying to knock me down. It got lucky, and managed to, forcing me to fall on top of it. I rolled onto my back, putting the kaiju above me and struggling to get it off of me. I felt the monstrosity try to grip the decoy conpod and try to crush it, bringing back a memory of watching Cherno Alpha get destroyed.
“No. Not again!” I roared and slammed my fist into the side of its head twice, sending it over my side and into the bottom of the harbor. I then delivered a massive elbow drop to the back of its head and started to stand up. The kaiju then started to get up, and was knocked down again as i elbow dropped it once more while standing up.
I thought it would have tried to get up again, but that train of thought was swiftly derailed.
“Chernobog, kaiju on your six!” the marshal yelled into the radio, prompting me to turn around. What i saw will haunt me, the second kaiju flying out of the water all the way across the portal right at me. It was far larger than the first one, and it latched onto me and started to pull backwards while the first kaiju slammed into me from behind, knocking all 3 of us into the portal.
