It had been Twilight’s idea to spend an entire day just with Pinkie. While she loved spending time with all of her friends together, she felt that they could all use some one-on-one bonding time with one another. Pinkie Pie had spontaneously come up with the idea to go on a road trip with Twilight for their time together. Twilight, having never been on a road trip before, was extremely excited to share the new experience with one of her closest friends. She had done massive amounts of research on the subject of road trips in all her excitement, planning everything exactly so that she and Pinkie would have an absolutely perfect few days together.
The day of the road trip came quickly, and Twilight had spent the previous night packing her belongings so that she’d be ready to go. She made sure that she hadn’t forgotten anything she would need for the next few days, making a long checklist which she double and then triple checked. The only thing Twilight was not all too happy with was the fact that neither she nor Pinkie had a car. In the small town they lived in, there was no need for cars, as everything was in walking distance. She would have to go to the car rental place and rent a shitty car for the next few days. She was anxious of the possibility of it breaking down, but she assured herself that if it did, she had her phone and she could get it fixed easily.
After all the hassle of renting the car, a beat up old thing that looked ancient, Twilight finally pulled up to the front of Sugarcube Corner, a brightly colored bakery in which Pinkie lived on the upper floor. Twilight honked her horn, turning to see a pale skinned, frizzy pink-haired girl already standing by the car passenger window, a wide smile stretching across her face. Twilight jumped, her heart racing for a moment before she opened the passenger door for her friend, not bothering to question how she’d seemingly appeared out of nowhere. She had long since learned not to question Pinkie Pie, as she was an enigma not even Twilight would ever be able to figure out.
“Hey, Twi! Ready to go?” Pinkie squealed as she plopped into the passenger seat of the car, buckling herself in. “Ooh, I’m so excited! I’ve been waiting for days and days and days for this trip, it’s gonna be so super duper fun! We could visit lots of different places and see a bunch of different stuff. Including the world’s biggest ball of yarn! Doesn’t that sound like a ton of fun?”
Twilight only grinned and shook her head in amusement at Pinkie’s enthusiasm for something as silly as a big ball of yarn. Then again, Pinkie had enthusiasm for pretty much everything, and she managed to make something as boring as yarn sound like a ton of fun.
She continued listening to the party planner’s constant chatter as she drove off, with one destination in mind.
"So, Twilight, do you know where you wanna head first?" Pinkie asked, wanting to know where their first stop would be. She herself had tons of insanely fun ideas as to where they could stop, but she'd decided to let Twilight take the first pick, as the whole one-on-one time idea had been hers in the first place.
Twilight grinned, not able to keep her plans a secret for any longer. She was far too thrilled for what she had in mind. "Oh, I definitely have a place. It's going to be the most fun you've ever had! In fact, it's so fun, that this place should be the last stop on this trip instead of the first. I was just too eager to wait!"
"Woah, really? That fun? Wow, this is gonna be super duper amazingly amazing! Oh my gosh Twilight, you have to tell me where we're going! I can't wait anymore!" Pinkie gasped, starting to guess possible places in Twilight's mind rapid fire. "Ooh, are we going to a super fun amusement park? Or the beach? That'd be fun! Ooh, ooh! Or we could go to the world's biggest candy factory! How fun would that be?"
The driver shook her head, a smile on her face. "No, Pinkie, none of those places. Even better! We're going to a national park! It'll be so cool, we'll go on the trail and learn a ton about historical figures and we'll probably see a bunch of historical landmarks, too! Doesn't that sound like a ton of fun?"
Pinkie raised an eyebrow, slumping back into her seat. While Pinkie could make almost anything fun, even a giant ball of yarn, there were some things that even she couldn't make interesting, and this whole national park thing was one of them.
"Uh, yeah. Sounds great, Twilight." Pinkie flashed a fake smile over to her friend, who didn't seem to notice the sudden deprivation of enthusiasm in the usually hyperactive girl's voice.
