*Brennan
The all too familiar sound of the royal Canterlot voice echoes in my ears as I jolt awake from my slumber. I sit there dumbfounded as I try to regain my senses. My vision comes too as I see a familiar blue figure standing in front of me her teal eyes giving me a stare that could send chills down a dragon's spine.
"Brennan, that's the third time this week you've slept thru my class!" she boomed.
I tried to mutter an apology but was still too tired to speak in complete sentences.
"Sorry Ms.....Ms..."
"How many times have I told you to call me Luna, Brennan? I've known you your entire life, you don't have to be so..formal"
Okay, bet you're thinking, wait did she just say Luna? Well you'd be right if you're reading this and yes Princess Luna is my sixth period teacher, she's also my mother. Here's the catch though I'm a human.
Maybe I should start from the beginning to clear things up.
A good number of years back Princess Celestia and Princess Luna found me and my friend Joshua as mere infants in the woods of the Everfree forest. Being a species they had never seen before they had no idea how to handle the situation but soon they agreed to try and find us a home. As luck would have it Luna grew attached to me and took me in as her own, leaving the royal life in Canterlot to raise me in the quiet peaceful town of Ponyville.
Anyway back to the real world.
"But it's school rules"
"In my classroom I rule, my sister can deal with whatever happens"
"Sorry mommy" I said rather dejectedly
Luna noticed the hint in my voice and sat on an adjacent desk next to me.
"Brennan, you're normally pretty studious in class?"
"Just tired I guess"
Noticing that I didn't want to talk about it Luna moved on to another topic
"Well how are things with that Octavia girl. You two haven't been seen together much lately."
That got me going
"Um okay...I was gonna take her out for dinner but she said she was busy with stuff for her mom"
"Uh huh..well you need to catch up on your studies somehow. How bout a tutor?"
"That’s nice but maybe we can talk more about this later, I need to get to my last class" I said gathering my stuff to head out.
"Brennan...I'm your last class"
It takes me a minute to realize she's right.
"Oh.."
My mother just let's out a big sigh as she gets up from the desk
"Well what would you like for dinner tonight, I'm gonna stop by the store on the way home?"
"Your cooking is always good so anything will do"
This made my mother blush
"Oh I'm not that good of a cook" she giggled
"Well Auntie says differently"
"Touché my little human"
Suddenly there she was standing in the doorway of the classroom
"Brennan, darling are you going to keep me waiting all day?" said the voice of a thousand angles as the gray mare stood in the doorway
"Oh sorry Octavia, um I'll be right there" I said while clumsily fumbling out of my desk with my things
She giggled and approached me taking out her handkerchief.
"You have some drool on your cheek" she said wiping it away and causing me to blush in embarrassment.
"So what do you two have planned this afternoon?" my mother said, butting in to the conversation.
"Well nothing much really, i just wanted to spend some time with Octy".
“I see. Well I was going to ask you to take this game system I took from your friend earlier today but seeing as how you're busy I guess I'll just keep it here and play it or something, see what's so great about these things" she said holding the all too familiar handheld of Josh's.
"I'm surprised he let you do that"
"Well when counselor Cadence got brought into the conversation he willfully handed it over" she said with a smirk
"That explains it" I said with a chuckle. "Well guess I'll see you at home later Mom, goodbye" I said walking out of the room with Octavia.
The gray mare with those lovely violet eyes next to me was the well-known musician Octavia melody, how a guy like me ended up with a girl like her you may ask? Well it’s complicated and the events are too embarrassing for me to write on paper.
As we walked Octavia asked me about our plans for the rest of the day before she went off with her mother. I suggested we go to the lake, which she took rather enthusiastically. Whenever my dear does that, she's usually up to something whether good or bad.
So we headed to her place where she could done the proper attire for such an occasion but stopped at the door before heading in. She turned and smile and gave me that look that just melts my heart away. I couldn't resist anymore and scooped her up into a big kiss.
"You're so pretty" I told her smiling.
She blushed but like usual she wasn't going to take my compliment.
"Yes all these other mares with vibrant coats and the human boy picks the one with the blandest of coats"
"That doesn't matter to me, besides it goes perfectly with those lovely violets of yours and let’s not forget that sexy accent either, it brings such a sweet tune to my ears"
"Yes but surly you know about the white mare who lives in Ponyville with the sapphire eyes, who does all the fancy dresses"
Ignoring her attempts to stop me I continued.
"Let's not get started on how riled your musicianship gets me going" I say with a smirk
She blushed once again the cute thing but she wouldn't go down easy.
"Oh but I'm sure Vinyl's music is more your style"
"VC's music is cool I'll admit but you've always been the one for me ever since we were little".
Now I got her to the point where her face grew rose red and she made the most absolute adorable face I had seen in my whole life. I almost felt bad for what I did but it quickly passed. I kissed her again and stroked her ears how she liked to calm her down.
"I love you Octavia Melody. How you are mine I'll never understand but boy am I glad you're mine" I said while holding her.
She grabbed my hand and signaled me to follow her giving me a tease of an invitation to watch her change before her phone rang.
"Oh, sorry I have to take this" she said quickly answering the phone.
I nodded and waited patiently as she talked with the person on the phone. When she hung up she was filled with excitement
"What is it Octy?"
"There's a surprise concert going on tonight. My teacher said there's gonna be a scout there looking for some talent" she said trying to contain her excitement.
"That's great honey, this could be your chance. What are you doing standing around you need to get ready don't you?"
"But what about our trip to the lake?"
"Don't worry about it, I know how important this is to you so please go and get ready"
She couldn't contain her excitement anymore jumping up and down and giving me a quick hug and kiss before heading into the house.
As I turned to walk away she quickly came back to the door.
"Darling, you will come to see me tonight won't you?"
"I will do my absolute best to make it tonight, I promise you"
She smiled and quickly headed back in the house while I made my way somewhere to find something to do with my time.
I didn't get far when a mysterious robbed figure lunged at me but for a hug. It startled me so and I quickly turned to see the culprit. The laugh coming from the figure was the all too familiar sound of my friend and the only other human besides me in this world, Josh.
"You almost gave me a damn heart attack you crazy fool"
"Yeah, yeah whatever come on I'm hungry, let’s go get something to eat. I know a place"
"Although I’m kind of hungry, most of the time when you just want to do something as simple as grabbing a bite, it usually ends up in some crazy adventure I don't have time for today"
"Wait, you're not talking about Ms. Gray cello are you?"
"Her name is Octavia and yes"
"Oh come on Brennan it’s just lunch your little marefriend can wait till later"
"Hey she's important to me!"
"Yeah, yeah but you said that about the last one and she didn't last long".
A reply in which got my friend a well deserve punch in the shoulder for such a low blow.
"Ow, Hey! At least you have Somepony"
"Oh can it Mr. Rich gets whatever he wants boy" I tease back at him.
"Hey it's not my fault my mother raised me" he defended
"Yeah, yeah whatever"
"Come on let's just go eat" Josh said with a sigh
As we walked to wherever my friend was taking me we talked a little about the day’s activities at school and I teased him about Counselor Cadence which really sent him off, it was quite a scene.
"Maybe I should report you two" I snickered
"N..No dude it's not like that at all" he stammered
"Ah but Josh your genius is showing"
"S.Shut up" he said quickly turning away.
"Anyway it’s just over that hill" he said motioning me to follow at a quick pace.
As we made it over the hill, there was some music going on and a small crowd gathered at a stage. There was a blue unicorn mare with a ridiculous looking outfit on stage perhaps doing some sort of show. I had a hunch what was going on over there and if I was right I knew I was in for some trouble with Josh. The boy really likes Mages.
*Josh
“Welcome one and all to the performance of a lifetime! Brought to you by the one and only Great and Powerful Trixie! Now watch in awe as Trixie performs the most amazing tricks your puny eyes have ever seen!” The blue mare whose name I assumed is Trixie exclaimed to the crowd.
“Not another magic show” my friend Brennan groaned.
“Come on dude this one seems….different.” I answered
“Fine but you’re buying lun- and you’re already over there.”
I watched in amazement as Trixie performed. Her elegance on stage paired with her beauty made my body tingle all over. I was stuck in place, completely captivated by the show that the blue unicorn was putting on. However, the show was cut short by a gruff voice.
“Aye trixie!” exclaimed the voice as three diamond dogs appeared on stage. “Ya got the money you owe us from that loan.”
“Scoundrels! Get away! Trixie is busy!”
“Nah we’ve been sent to collect. Now come on we’re going backstage.” The leader growled as he grabbed her arm
“Let the lady go!” I exclaimed jumping on stage
“And if we don’t what is a puny human like you gonna do about it.”
A smirk made its way on my face as I raised my hand and it began to glow.
“I am the best combat magic user in Celestia’s school for gifted unicorns. Crossing blades or in this case spells with me is one of the worse mistakes you’ll ever make!” I exclaim as a ball of lighting shoots from my hand and hits its target temporarily paralyzing all three diamond dogs.
“Awe yeah another spell mastered!”
“Uh dude I hate to cut your celebration short but… you blew up part of that vacant house behind them.” Brennan pointed to the smoldering remains of a cottage across the courtyard.
“…Shit.” I murmured as sirens quickly approach the scene. Royal guards arrive as quick as usual and put me in chains taking me to the castle. The guards carried me into the throne room where a white alicorn with a tri-color mane sat atop her throne.
“…hello mother..” I mumbled trying to keep my head down
“Leave us.” The clearly disappointed princess said to her loyal guards to which they all immediately obey.
“I am so sorry mother! I just… they we’re attacking the magician and…I had to help.”
“Joshua, you have to control yourself better than that. Now I must go to the Diamond Dogs and keep tensions low to avoid war. By defending this Trixie you have endangered the people of Equestria!”
I stood there speechless and unable to move, if only this had been the first time I’d disappointed the one who had raised me from infancy like this but alas this type of thing is all too common for me.
“We’ll talk more about this when I return my son, I love you.”
“I love you too mom.” I reply as she embraces me in her arms and flies off.
“Can we do anything for you sire?” one of the royal guards asked me as I sat bored in my room.
“No. thank you” I said annoyed “and how many times have I told you to call me Josh I’m not a real prince.” My mind was elsewhere at the moment to, preferably on that magician I saw earlier. There had to be a way to see her again. Then a thought came into my head.
“Actually wait do any of you know anything about a magician named Trixie?”
“No sir I’m afraid not. Maybe your mother or Princess Twilight Sparkle would know. Perhaps you should write them and ask.”
“That won’t be necessary” said a familiar voice that caused us to turn attention to.
“Trixie is already here.” Said the sky blue unicorn as she enters the room.
The guards took a defensive position around me all drawing they’re weapons as the captain barked “What are you doing here?! Who let you in?!”
“Stand down boys she’s welcomed here. Give us a minute.” I ordered, my mind seeing this as a perfect opportunity. Reluctantly all the guards leave the room as I turn to the robbed wizard. “I never did catch your full name.”
“Trixie Lulamoon”
“Right…how did you get in here?”
“Trixie has her ways”
“Okay…well why are you here?”
“…Trixie is here for payment for Trixie’s stage which you so rudely broke when you interfered with something Trixie totally had everything under control.”
“Well I could pay you back but then I’m not sure it’d be fixed the right way.”
I sat in thought for a moment.
“Tell you what I’ll fix it myself AND I’ll buy you dinner.”
“Eww Trixie wants nothing to do with you after Trixie gets her stage fixed.” she said in disgust
“I insist it’s the least I could do since I did cause you so much strife.”
She hesitated for a moment.
“…..Fine but only because Trixie is hungry and can’t turn down free food.”
“Aww you’re hungry now? Here I have some leftovers from my lunch.” I reach into my bag and pull out a pristine pack of peanut butter crackers. “Here you want these?”
Trixie’s eyes widen and her mouth waters. “Are…are you sure how could you possibly give Trixie such a delicacy.”
I looked at her puzzled.
“They’re just crackers I never really eat them anyway so yeah you can have them.”
Trixie takes them from me and devours them within seconds leaving nothing but an empty wrapper. “Well then….lets go take care of that stage.”
Trixie leads me to her stage where a whole corner was blown off in my recklessness. “That’s quite the damage but I know just the spell to fix it! A simple reversion spell and poof it’s fixed!” I raise my hand and focus and like clockwork the pieces move into place. “And with that done I’m getting a little hungry as well how do hayburgers sound?”
“Trixie does not care Trixie just wants to be done with this night and you.” she scoffed
“Right this way Trix.” I said without the least bit of annoyance in my voice
“What did you just call the Great and Powerful Trixie?”
“Trix? It’s just a nickname. I kinda like it don’t you.”
“Please refrain from calling Trixie anything other than Trixie or the Great and Powerful Trixie.”
“Whatever Trix.”
“Mrrgrrgrr! You’re not going to stop are you human?”
“Nope and the names Josh.”
“Very well if you refuse to call Trixie by her names than Trixie shall call you Mutt.”
“Fine by me Trix”
We walk in silence after that, Trixie visibly disheartened by me not hating the new nick name but I had been called worse and I did kind of
like the name. Eventually we got to the restaurant and take our seat. After ordering I try my best to befriend the blue unicorn.
“So tell me about yourself Trix.”
“You misunderstand Mutt this is not a date Trixie is here to eat and leave no more.”
“Doesn’t mean we can’t get to know each other right? I mean we can be friends right?”
“Trixie doesn’t have friends just adoring fans.”
“Well maybe I can be your first friend. They’re pretty nice to have especially when you owe loan sharks….er dogs…money. What’s the story behind that anyway?”
“Trixie doesn’t have to nor does Trixie want to tell you anything about that. It’s none of your business.”
“Fine, fine I won’t pry…” The waiter then brings our food and we both scarf it down. After paying Trixie and I step outside and she turns to me.
“Trixie is interested in this friendship…if you are sincere come to Trixie’s show tonight and we’ll discuss this.”
“You got yourself a deal I’ll be there!” Trixie nods and throws down a smoke ball disappearing. “Well her shows a few hours away…maybe I can stop at the game store and find a rare poniibo!!”I make my way to the game store but instead of seeing the usual friendly faces of the employees and customers alike I’m met with two royal guards.
“The princess has ordered us to bring you to the castle immediately. You must come with us.” They exclaim pointing to the carriage.
“But I have to meet someone in the performance courtyard in a couple hours…at least go tell her I can’t make it!” I exclaim with great concern in my voice.
“I’m afraid we can’t do that sir direct orders from the princess.” They grab me and force me into the carriage as it speeds to the castle where an obviously drunk Celestia awaits. One little known thing about my mother, she only drinks when she’s really depressed or really happy.
“Hello my little banana I just got back from the diamond dog territory and we came up with a little agreement…Twilight get in here and tell my little banana his punishment.”
A purple alicorn who I immediately recognized as princess twilight sparkle entered the room and glared at me with a look of distain. “For nearly causing a species war you are coming with me to Ponyville in order to learn restraint and study under me in magical arts.”
My jaw drops as my eyes water “Mom are you serious!? I’m being banished from Canterlot…from my friends…from you..”
“No you can still come and go as you please my sweet little banana but for now you no longer can live in the castle. All of your possessions have been moved to twilight’s castle in Ponyville where you will now stay.” She approaches and embraces me “I know this is hard but I’m doing this because I love you my little banana now you and twilight must go the train is waiting.” We said our tearful goodbyes and twilight guided me to the train station where we departed for my new home in Ponyville.
“What the hell was he thinking? Glad I got there when I did” I said as I ran from the commotion. Normally I wouldn’t leave him like that but I’d be in big trouble and my mother would not come to my aid.
As I got to a place I thought would be good I stopped to take a breather and think of the events to come that night. A lovely evening, watching Octavia play her wondrous music and spend time with her afterwards, what more could a guy ask. As I sat in the grass I looked to the sky with the breeze of spring air rolling across my face, I heard aloud shriek come from the hills. I looked towards the cry to see a wooden cart madly rolling down the hill, relieved of its holder.
“Somepony stop that cart!!”
“Can’t catch a break today can I?” thinking to myself as I got up ready for action.
Luckily no one was in the path of the cart, so I didn’t have to worry about anyone but myself. I raced towards the cart cutting it off and waiting for its approach. However the cart was accelerating faster than I thought it would and it caught me off guard as it charged into me sending me skidding with it a good couple of feet. The impact hurt like how but somehow I was able to manage to stop it.
Recovering from the pain and not trying to show it the pony who shouted approached me. She was a young mare with yellow fur and hair like that of fire. Her eyes a radiant shade of teal.
“Oh thank you so much. I got distracted for a second and I lost the cart. My items surely would have been damaged if you didn’t stop it” she said inspecting the cart
“No problem, you should be more careful though, if someone was near they could have been hurt.”
“I know, I know I’m really sorry” she said in embarrassment
I noticed the cart was full of books and other studious things. This mare didn’t seem to fit the type which intrigued me.
“If you don’t mind me asking, what are you doing all this stuff”
My question seemed to catch her off guard as she seemed perplexed.
“Oh, well actually this is for Princess Twilight Sparkle, I’m her new assistant and I just moved back into town. She asked me to pick up a few things”
I laughed “Tis a bit more than a few things don’t ya think”?
“Yeah I guess so” she laughed back.
“Oh but I must be going, I’ll be late and you’ve done enough already but could it be possible to help me to get this to her castle?”
“I guess I could help you but I don’t quite know exactly how to get there”
“How could you not it’s a giant crystal castle towering the town?! No worries though, I’ll guide you.”
“Okay lead the way miss”. I said cursing myself in silence. I can be so stupid for no reason sometimes
*Late Afternoon*
After a not so long journey we arrived at the castle my arms aching from the weight of the cart.
“Thank you so much, you were a big help”
“You’re quite welcome Ms..” I said as I relived my arms of the cart
“Sunset Shimmer. You’re such a nice pony er person, can’t find that much here nowadays” she says as she kissed me on the check and headed in to the castle with her delivery.
“Well that was..something” I said trying to take in what happened
I didn’t have much time as the sound of the town bell rang out.
My heart raced as I looked at the time
“SHIT”

I was running as fast as I had ever done in my whole life.
“How could I have lost track of time, damn my kindness”
The good had taken longer than anticipated and I was late for Octavia’s concert. It didn’t help that it was on the other side of town.
“Gah this is pointless, I’ll never make it in time like this” I said as I tried to maneuver through the busy streets.
I stopped and looked for any way that could help me. Then an idea ran thru my head, a risky but worth it at the time idea. I found a small enough building and made my way up its walls onto the roof. From there I could get a better view of the town but I had to get higher. I raced across the rooftops jumping and climbing with acrobatic precision and accuracy. I was able to get higher but still not to where I could place my pinpoint of my destination. I looked to the town clock tower.
“Perfect”
The building I was on was just close enough to where, If I had enough momentum and a bit of luck I could reach the tower. I gave it everything I got as I approached the edge and leapt. It was a good start but as my body lunged forward a shadow passed by my field of vision and as a regained focus a glint of the moonlight blindsided me, causing me to miss my grip point on a window of the tower and I plunged down to the ground awaiting a painful embrace.
