The sweet, innocent-seeming friend and co-worker was gone forever.
Said mare finally managed to get her limbs working, turning around so that they were face to face and heart to heart.
She smiled down at him, the fur around her mouth wet and matted. “That was amazing.”
“Understatement of the century,” he replied with a lopsided grin.
“So, um…” She idly ran her hoof through the fur on his chest. “Where does that… leave us?”
“What do you mean?"
“W-well, I mean… uh… Was this just a one night thing, or… might you want to go out again sometime?”
“Don’t be stupid.”
She flinched, her ears folding back.
With a sudden grin, he leaned forward and caught her lips in a kiss. Pulling away again, he said, “Of course I want to go out again. How’s tomorrow sound?”
She looked like she wanted to scold him for messing with her, but she released her frustration in a contented sigh and nestled her head in the crook of his neck.
“That sounds wonderful.”
With another, shorter kiss to the top of her head, the two of them settled in, and within minutes he felt Blossomforth’s body go slack on top of his and her breathing grow deep and steady. He hugged the sleeping mare more firmly against himself and smiled into the moonstruck bedroom.
He realized in that moment that he hadn’t lost Blossomforth. He had only lost his former idea of her. The reality of the mare on top of him was so much better, and, for the first time in his life, the idea of spending the rest of his life with somepony wasn’t so scary. For the first time in his life, he felt something deeper. Something like love.
And she was a firecracker in the sack, too. He certainly wouldn’t complain about that.
