The Day Life Decided to Screw Me Over

So, there I was, hunting in a forest. I recently bagged some good game, and was heading back to my camp when a glowing object caught my attention. I stopped walking, and turned to look at it. It looked like a human shaped mask made out of wood, with both eyes mostly closed, except for small slits to see through. It had some kind of strange markings on it.

Out of curiosity, I picked it up, and looked it over. As I did, I felt a strange feeling of wanting to put it on my face. I then chuckled, and started walking back to my camp. "Like I'm going to put on a strange mask I found in the middle of the forest." I joked.

Several hours later, I doused the campfire in water, and yawned, getting ready to get back in my tent to go to bed. As I held my tent door in my hand, I heard a loud humming sound, and turned around to see the wooden mask floating right there. Looking back at the moment, I kinda wish it said something cool like 'David Grey. You have been chosen to join the Wooden Corp.' or something like that. Nope, it just flew onto my face faster than I could react, and I felt severe pain all over my body, as I struggled to remove the mask. The pain got worse and worse and I screamed as loud as I could, hoping someone could hear me, before everything turned white.

My eyes shoot open, and I quickly pushed myself to my feet, noticing how I was in a completely unfamiliar part of the forest. I looked around, not seeing my camp, or any sign of where I'm at. Remembering what happened, I quickly grabbed my face, and sighed in relief that it felt fine, and didn't have the wooden mask on it.

I shivered when I felt the familiar power of the mask nearby, and looked down to see the mask on the ground. Not thinking clearly, I picked up the mask, and quickly started running, and running and running, until I found a rather large river. Dropping to my knees, I cupped my hands and started drinking greedily, before washing my face with water, and looking at my reflection.

Thankfully, I still looked the same. Same short length blond hair, same blue eyes, same scar across my face from when I almost got killed by a bear. Picking the mask back up, I looked at its face. "What the hell happened? Where did you take me?" All my life, I believed in the spiritual things, like ghosts and magic, and I could almost feel like this was magic, and I was in no dream.

Hearing a growl behind me, I turned to see a lone wolf walking up to me, fangs bared. But it wasn't an ordinary wolf, it looked to be made of wood. "Timberwolf." I joked with myself, as I looked at the wolf head on, waiting for the first move. Noticing something out of my peripheral vision. It looked like a red bar with the word 'Timberwolf' underneath it. There also was a bar with some pictures on it above it. Noticing my distraction, the wolf lunged at me, and I wasn't quick enough to dodge, as it landed on top of me, and started clawing at my chest and face.

I quickly reached for my knife on my leg, and pulled it out, before jabbing it in the wolf's neck causing it to jump back, and start staggering. Seeing this as my chance, I ran forward, and kicked it in the head, causing it's head to turn to saw dust and it's body to crumble. Pulling out my knife, I noticed two bars appeared on the bottom of my vision, one was red, and was 3/4's full, and the other was green, and was filling up. "What the hell is this?" The wolf's bar was gone, and I quickly grasped my chest, as the adrenaline faded, making me feel the pain. I noticed the giant gashes across my chest. "Oh god, gotta fix this."

Pulling off my backpack, I put it on the ground, and pulled out my first aid stuff, quickly pulling off my shirt and vest, cleaning out and wrapping up my wounds, and putting my shirt back on. I also grabbed an apple, and ate it, noticing how both the first aid, and the apple filled up the red bar. "So, it this some kind of Head's Up Display, and it's showing me my health and stamina?" I played video games from time to time, and knew that usually when this stuff happens, the red bar has to be health. Looking through my backpack, I noticed I still had my compound bow and several arrows, a few flares, some food to last a while , water to last even longer, a flashlight, a satellite phone (I tried to use it, but it didn't work), more health supplies, an axe, a few other supplies, and a pistol with a small amount of ammo. I even had the hides and meat I got off of the animals I killed earlier in here.

Not knowing what else could live in this forest, I stood up, and pulled out my bow, before hearing more growls, and remembering something important. "Wolves travel in packs." I watched in dread, as the rest of the 'Timberwolf' pack slowly came out of the thick trees, surrounding me and trapping me against the water. If my 'compass' is to be believed, then there must be six wolves around me. I readied my nerves, as I put an arrow in my bow, getting ready to fire. The wolves noticed the body of their dead friend, and looked back at me, growling even harder.

The wolves made the first move.
