Exploding Stars

Celestia and Luna stood on a balcony. They had quite some things to think about. It was the fourth moon of the seventh month. Luna had told her sister about a celebration, which she had seen on the moon. She remembered how there was a huge explosion from a far planet that was seen all the way from Equestria.

Luna looked at her sister. She had told her that it was a celebration to mourn the soldiers that died and also celebrate the victory of battle. They both had mixed feelings about it. They sat in silence.

"Luna," Celestia finally said. "This happens every year and it shouldn't be important to Equestria."

Luna stared aghast by her sisters disrespect. Celestia had always been "The Nicest" when it came to other races.

"Sister I--" Luna started saying but was cut off.

"I know it's a huge celebration for a nation on that planet," Celestia said sternly. "But I cannot partake in it. it is against the laws of Equestria."

"No Celestia," Luna retaliated. "It isn't against our law. 'As long as the Princesses, Celestia and Luna, approve of it, Equestria can make up, partake in, and celebrate holidays, including ones from other nations."

Celestia stared at her sister. Why was she acting so strange torwards a world she had only seen for 1,000 years?? When did she care about other countries?

She got her answer as soon as she thought about the question.

"Sister that world and their customs are the only thing that gave me hope that I would one day return to Equestria. My sanity almost left me, but that celebration kept me sane!

"I was the only one on the moon other than a few robot thingies that talked! Do you think I could have gone on long enough to even be here?! Do you think I would ever returned to you as your sister without my sanity!?!?"

Celestia was aghast about what her sister had said, and she turns once again to the sky. She sighed and just kept on looking to the setting sun.

The princesses had been standing there for a while. Keeping the sun and moon in place. Finally they had set it to night. Luna told the guards what to do on the signal. She raised her hoof to her horn and used her magic to let off a sort of bang sound.

Firework where  shot into the air. Looking like the stars where exploding.

"Luna!" Celestia whimpered, never seeing fireworks in her long life."Why are you exploding the stars!? I thought they where your favorite part of the night!!!"

Luna laughed at her sisters foolishness. She told Celestia what they really were, and Celestia calmed down.

"Sister," Luna said in between laughs. "Your unknowingly wise but still not as knowing as me. These have been in Equestria for thousands of years. In fact, I think they were invented after we defeated Discord."

Celestia sat down. As more fireworks exploded, she thought about the planet.

"What is this celebration really about?" Celestia asked. "Why are we doing a custom from another planet that neither of us has ever even been on?"

"This celebration is about mourning soldier that have died in a war and passed wars. It also celebrates other 'Americans'." Luna explained. "I feel like I have been on the planet, being trapped in the orbit between it and Equestria. It feels like I've been there for most of my life..."

Celestia stared at her sisters sad face. She had never known her sister wouldn't think of Equestria as her home.

Luna looked back at her sister, sitting down next to her. She took a breath and started singing a calming song that thier mother used to sing to them. Celestia pulled Luna close as they watched the fire works and thought of all the lost soldiers in the past wars. They slowly drifted into a dreamless sleep.

-70 Years Later-

The four princesses looked up at the sky. Celestia and Luna, and Twilight and Cadence. They all looked at the beautiful fireworks that lit up the sky. Twilight and Cadence had grown old and they needed to have lots of blankets on them. All artificial Alicorns die someday, not being fully immortal.

Celestia and Luna knew it would be their last 4th of July, so they wanted to make it special. The fireworks were in the patterns of Twilight and Cadence's cutiemark.

"How lovely." Said an old Twilight. "Out of all my years as an Alicorn, I've never seen such a beautiful sight."

"Yes, Quite lovely. Especially under the full moon." Said an even older Cadence.

"Hello dear," Said another old voice.

Shining walked onto the balcony and kissed the old princesses. He was retired and knew that their time was up. Celestia and Luna wept as they used their magic to have the ponies desend into a better world. They will go see their friends and be at a time were they are happiest. The princesses and the retired stallion's bodies fell softly to the ground as the princesses cried. They cried forevermore, knowing they could never again see their friends. Grief had befallen upon them and they never knew it. So for many years they cried and cried. A statue was put above the graves of the fallen every single Fourth of July.
