The newborn siren had her mother’s predominant colors, blue scales all over her little body except the armored plates of her belly which were a deep lavender, and a tiny little red pendant in her chest. She had lovely little purple fins, and when she opened her eyes Chrysalis smiled at her precious purple irises… Wait purple? PURPLE?! PURPLE?! Looking closer the changeling started to see familiar features: the shape of the little siren’s snout, the cut of her fins, the frilled end of her tail… And above all a cute dimple that made the siren look that she was always frowning. Those were not Sonata's features. Those were definitely not her own features. She had seen that dimple in only one other being, in her pony form or her siren form. This was not her offspring. This was her rivals spawn. This was Aria’s ultimate insult.
Chrysalis started to shake with rage, but she was distracted when the newborn siren giggle-snorted, reaching her little blue hooves towards the changeling’s snout. The little thing smiled, a smile oh so similar to Sonata’s. It made Chrysalis' hearth throb painfully, knowing what she had to do. The changeling ways were set in stone: children from rivals were to be terminated, without mercy. They could be a threat to her own progeny. Suddenly she thought about Sonata's first born, so weak and small. Chrysalis realized she had just found the cause for his stunted growth: the siren intruder had parasited him, stealing the energy that should have been his. And suddenly killing the little siren wasn't so hard. The changeling opened her jaws, fangs dripping and ready to sink into the newborn. Chrysalis snarled then struck, jaw closing around her prey. She sunk her teeth into the soft flesh and ripped it apart, blood spraying into her mouth.
The little siren shrieked weakly, but she soon quieted down as Chrysalis healed the umbilical cord she had just bitten through. The changeling cleaned the siren like she had done her own, even kissing the bastard child with reluctant love. She was completely incapable of hurting one of Sonata’s children, even if it wasn’t one of her own. She thought about using her magic to change the malleable newborn’s colors, but she had to admit that she looked very cute as she was. She levitated the little siren to her mother, Sonata gasping when she saw her.
“Oh my gosh!” Sonata gushed. She carefully put the changeling she was holding with the rest of its brethren, lying curled against her side. “I thought we only would have changelings!” She peppered the giggling siren with kisses, hugging her lovingly.
“Yes.” Chrysalis said curtly as Sonata embraced the giggling little siren. “This is unprecedented.”
“Wow she’s so precious! She looks just like me!” Sonata cheered happily. Then her head jerked back, surprised. “And just like… Aria? What?” Sonata’s surprised look slowly morphed into a cringe of disgust as she understood the implication. “That’s impossible!”
“That day in the pool chamber, when you were under us.” The changeling hissed angrily. “You became so loose all of the sudden. It was that bitch!” She snapped her jaws at her own stupidity. “She even smells like your sister!” Chrysalis snarled despite herself, tensing up. She winced when Sonata shot her a panicked look, holding onto her child protectively.
“What are you going to do to her…” Sonata whispered, frightened. Her pendant began to shine dangerously.
“You know me,” Chrysalis rumbled with a straight face. “what do you think I’m going to do?”
“You’re gonna eat her?” Sonata squeaked, almost inaudibly.
“No.” Chrysalis relaxed her stance, then smiled. Sonata instantly became more at ease, used to reading her companion's mood. “I’m going to care for her like I will care for all my other children, and do you know why?”
“Because she’s my kid?” Sonata said gently.
“Because she is our child. Us two. No one else.” Chrysalis proclaimed. “Because I am yours, and you are mine.”
“What about Aria?”
“Not a factor.” Chrysalis growled. “My mate. My child.”
"For realsies?"
"Yes."
“Hmm…” Sonata tilted her head, then smiled. “Hey there, Chryssi junior.” She cooed softly, nuzzling the little siren. “Welcome to the family! Say hello to your mommy.” She held out the newborn to Chrysalis, who smiled despite herself and leaned in, rubbing her snout on her purple belly, making the child giggle again.
“Are you really naming her Chrysalis?” the changeling snorted, strangely not opposed to the idea.
“Junior!” Sonata cheered. She then pouted. “If you would just let me name all the others too…”
“Changelings are named after the initials of their mother, their rank of birth and then their iteration.” Chrysalis shook her head.
“That’s not fun!” Sonata gently lowered the siren amongst her smaller brothers, and then picked her minuscule first born carefully. “I don’t want to call him SD01-00, I want to call him Allegro!”
“If you want you can give our children nicknames.” Chrysalis sighed. “Adagio already gave all our foals one. But don’t forget that before long you will have more children and grand children than you could imagine. Trust me, the changeling system works best.”
“Well I’m still naming them.” Sonata beamed, the changeling chuckling.
She and Chrysalis exchanged a loving kiss, bathing their children in love. The changeling then levitated Sonata towards the nursery bed, where she would be able to let her children suckle while she recuperated from the ordeal. The foals and baby siren followed, floating in the emerald cloud as the cocoons around the little changelings dissolved into thin air, letting them able to crawl around. The pony mother noted that Chrysalis took extra care to position the littlest foal nearest her swollen breasts; she would take extra care of Allegro. Sonata expected the changeling to join her but Chrysalis marched purposely to the nursery exit.
“Where are you going Chryssi?” Sonata called groggily, quickly falling asleep.
“I’ll be right back my love.” Chrysalis glanced back with a smile, but the siren noted that her eyes were once again completely black. The shark-like gaze made Sonata exhale in exasperation. “I’m just going to kill Aria and I’ll come back.”
“Again?!” Sonata mumbled, eyes closing. “You say you're going to kill her at least twice a week, it’s getting old.”
“This time I mean it.”
“Sure.” Sonata slurred, instinctually holding her thighs open to let her little rascals nurse. The newborn siren was more interested by Sonata’s red pendant, rubbing her snout on its surface. “Just tell her to stay away from Junior after you’re done playing, I don’t want her near our little girnnrrrrrh” Sonata fell soundly asleep, snoring softly.
Chrysalis gave her mate one last loving look, then she lunged and raced like a cheetah, tearing through the hive, her magic locating her prey.

Back in Adagio’s chambers Aria was gnawing on her own hooves in worry, under the unamused gaze of her sister.
“Think it’s over?” Aria asked, rocking back and forth.
“I don’t know.” Adagio sighed. “Being so small, Sonata could have some issues giving birth. Especially to a siren.”
“Don’t say that!”
“Relax, if that had happened I’m pretty sure we would have heard…”
“ARIA YOU BITCH!!!”
“Oh, there it is.” Adagio said calmly. She didn’t bat an eye as her sister zipped out of her room, fleeing for her life in what had become a regular occurrence. Adagio sighed and went back to care for her little foals, smiling as she nuzzled each and everyone of them. She may still dislike the changeling queen, but she had to admit that the little drones were now the most important thing in her life. Just next to having her revenge of course.
Her ears perked when she heard Aria scream like a little girl as Chrysalis howled, followed by the ovations from the army of little Arias, drawn to the chaos like moths to a fire. The little changelings always enjoyed their mothers' brutal fights, taking sides, cheering for one or the other. They fueled the conflict with their magical voices, all the while absorbing Chrysalis and Aria's energy, leaving the both of them exhausted before they could really harm one another. Then the herd of purple changelings would crowd around the downed combatants, lovingly snuggling with their passed out mothers. It was the only time they were quiet. Adagio sighed irritably, but the presence of her children soon calmed her down. Smiling contently she closed her eyes and hummed a lullaby, finding peace amongst her foals, drowning out the distant murderous roars, cries for mercy and cheers for blood.
One particular high-pitched scream was heard all the way to the surface, startling a sleeping blue jay. The bird twittered and flew into the rosy sky, the sun beginning to rise over the horizon. The land slowly awakened to a beautiful new day, ignorant of the impending disaster brewing under the earth. The hive would grow strong and numerous, the uneasy alliance of changelings and sirens announcing Equestria’s inevitable doom. But the peaceful nation wouldn't go down without a fight. A group of ponies were already doing their best to prepare for Chrysalis’ eventual return, warned by a drone trying to do the right thing. But that’s another story .
