Johnny Bionic
Prologue 1 - John Archer
Load Full StoryAn alarm clock rang, causing the young adult to jump and fall out of bed, waking up with a bump on the head. He immediately reached for the clock to turn it off, stopping the loud beeping that made nearly everyone in their dorms in the hallway wake up to. He sat back down on his futon staring up at the ceiling. He rubbed the sleep away from his eyes with his robotic hands and made his way to his dresser. He slipped on a pair of blue jeans with a black leather belt and white tanktop. Since he was a fan of the Assassins Creed games, he bought a venom assassin's hoodie a few weeks back and wore it ever since. It is a dark red with the zippers in the similar style of Desmond Miles' hoodie. He slipped it on as well as his favorite Croft & Barrow hi-top sneakers of the same color scheme as his hoodie. He slipped black leather gloves over his metal hands to hide the fact his body is mostly reconstructed metal and carbon fiber.
His name is Johnny Archer. Two years ago, he underwent a series of surgeries to replace parts of his body that were affected by stage 4 cancer with artificial parts. His arms, legs, heart, lungs and liver were replaced by technologically advanced breakthroughs in medical and robotic science; bionics. His bones and parts of his skull were replaced as well. Although the bionics were all prototypes, they still work as long as there is a steady flow of oxygen in his blood, allowing the electrical impulses in his brain to power and move all of the augments. In a way, he is one of the first living cyborgs. Sadly, they were not advanced enough to replace his eyes as they haven't perfected optical nerve surgeries to metal and carbon fiber, so he still had to still wear his thin-rimmed glasses. Until the company testing him said it was okay to reveal the tech, he had to keep all of his augments hidden from non-employees of the tech company in fear of public backlash. To keep him both safe and monitored, they placed a tracking device in his left arm.
He finished getting dressed and grabbed his books to take with him to his robotics class. He was enrolled in a college in robotics so he can learn how to create his own augments and learn how to enhance his own. His education was paid for by the organization as a means of compensation of subjecting himself to dozens of reconstructive surgeries. So far, he went through two of eight years of college, since he was going for a Professionals Degree. He turned around to face his clock and it said: 8:56 A.M. His class starts at 9. His eyes shot open as he dashed through his dorm room door, swiping up his skateboard on the way.
He made it out of the entrance to the dorms and jumped onto his board to ride down the walkway, narrowly avoiding collisions with other students, by treating them as living slaloms. He got to one area of the campus where there was nobody in sight. He sighed with relief as he picked up the pace by pushing himself faster down the path. Outside of his vision, a small object rolled out into the path, John's skateboard wheels running it over, making it flip over and sending him into a bush. The books and research papers that were in his arms, scattered all over the path and the bush. He got back to his feet and walked back to the area where he bailed. What laid there next to his skateboard was a large, white, olive-shaped crystal glowing in the middle of the walkway.
It almost seemed like it was speaking to him. He keeled down to it and grabbed it. His vision grew white and a glow consumed his entire body, leaving behind the tiny red tracking device that fell to the gray brick and smashed to pieces.
