The orange-yellow mare trotted home under the moonlight and looked up into the sky as she went along.
"Luna, you make the best night time walks home from classes" she said.
She was heading home from the Magic School for Unicorn Mares, a school created for older mares who want to learn more fine points of magic and spells. She reached her home and unlocked the door. She headed into her home and locked the door behind her.
"gotta make sure this is locked because I don't want to get robbed again." she said as a reminder to herself.
she put her saddlebags down and plopped herself into her comfy chair. She scanned the room and saw a small envelope on her dinner table. she looked at it with confusion as she had already read through her mail that morning. she walked over to it and read what was on the front.
"From your friend, Skittle Sweet." she read. She opened the envelope and took out the piece of paper that was inside. "Dear Honey Spark, I have told you I was working on a project, well I'm finished and I've really hit the jackpot on this one. I've tested it and it's a complete success. I've created a portal into an alternate universe!?" Honey looked shocked that her friend hadn't told her what she was building. She continued reading. "I've only been able to look at what's on the other side before I wrote this so I'm sure it works. I want you to come over here and go through it with me. Sincerely your friend, Skittle Sweet." She put down the letter and decided to head off to bed ready to go to Skittle's house in the morning. "I really hope that she knows what she's doing." she laid her head down and almost immediately fell asleep.
The red mare pushed her glasses up and brushed back her green, purple, and yellow mane. She inspected her contraption and checked things off of her list. She put down her checklist and went upstairs to her kitchen to make herself a late night snack when she heard the door slam open. two stallions in masks busted into her house and she let out a yelp. One of them went after her and she quickly countered by levitating her oven door onto his head and he fell down unconscious. the other headed towards her basement door and she tackled him to the floor in an effort to keep them away from her basement. she levitates her reading lamp near her easy chair and throws it at the other stallion. The base of the lamp hits him in the head and it flies up knocking out the overhead light. She takes a moment to calm down and heads back down into her basement. and locks the large solid metal door and heads down to the large device. "Sorry Sparky but I'm gonna have to go without you." She said as she activated the machine and a quiet whirring began to sound as a swirling light started to form in the middle. Eventually the large square frame was engulfed in light and Skittle stepped up to it making sure to hit the timer on the deactivation to one minute and thirty seconds. "alright new world, here I come." She stepped into the square frame and disappeared into it.
Honey Spark woke up and got out of bed. She walked to her dresser drawer and pulled out the small bow she wore on her blue and gold colored mane and set it on her vanity. she began to brush out the tangles before she got into her shower. after cleaning her honey colored coat she dawned her bow in front of her ear and headed downstairs. she walked into the kitchen, started her coffee pot and then proceeded to make her breakfast. after her morning coffee was finished she poured it into a travelling bottle and took a sip. "Ah, nothing better than the morning brew." she said to herself. as she headed towards the door she picked up her saddlebags and headed out to her friends house.
She walked down the path saying hello to the ponies that she passed by. Everyone was having a great morning and that brought Honey's mood up even further. After a few minutes she turned a corner onto the street that Skittle Sweet lived on. She kept a steady trot going until she reached Skittle's home and was a bit confused with what she saw. Her confusion turned to slight worry as she tried opening the front door but found out that it was locked. "Usually she's awake by now. What the heck is going on?" She said worried about her friend. Honey quickly pulled out her spare set of keys that Skittle gave her and stepped inside. Looking around the room and she got even more worried because of the state of her living room. "Skittle said the thing was in the basement so I might as well go down there."
Honey walked down to the basement after unlocking the large metal door and sees the machine sitting there. "woah, this is amazing." Honey said in awe of the shiny machine. Before she could even think about trying to turn it on she spots a book sitting on a table. "this must be her notebook." She turned the book open and flipped through the pages until she found the one that told her how to operate the machine. She turns to the last page and sees a folded up piece of paper sitting between the back cover and the last page. "whats this for?" Honey said as she began to unfold it. "It's a note from Skittle.
"Dear Honey Spark, you've probably seen my living room and well some things happened last night that forced me to enter into the other world alone. I'll try to learn as much as I can there so that way at least one of us knows how this place works. There's no need to worry about me because right now I'm fine. When you try to turn it on make sure you turn it off on a timer so that way nobody else can turn it on, take this note with you as well because it will tell you how to activate this machine. All you need to do to activate it is pull the lever and the timer and settings will automatically go to the last settings. Hit the red button on the top of the portals frame to start the shut off timer. I have the return device so that way we can come back here when we want. I wish you luck. Your friend, Skittle Sweet."
"Well, here goes I guess." Honey looks at the machine and follows Skittle's instructions and watches in awe as the machine comes to life in a soft humming sound. The Frame starts to light up in the middle and swirls to fill out the entirety of it. Honey steps back and admires the look of the large lighted rectangle she saw before her. "Alright Honey Spark, get it together." She said and quickly took a deep breath. Standing up straight and facing the lighted frame and begins to step forward. "Here we go." she said to herself as the hit the timer start and jumped through.
A loud noise that she had never heard got closer and she quickly opened her eyes to see two lights screaming towards her. Honey Spark quickly jumped to her right and screamed in terror and barely avoided major injury from the unknown lights. "What, was, that." She said panting after her scare. A gust of wind blew by as another one passed by her. She looked around and saw many lights weaving around and moving on the large paved paths. "What the heck is going on?" Honey asked herself when she turned and saw a large cluster of lights in the distance. She looked down and saw that one of the paved paths leads to the cluster. Still looking down she realized that the path that she was on was elevated. She quickly took care of that and teleported next to the path below. "What's the deal with all these things going back and forth on these paths?" She asked herself again. "I guess Skittle will tell me, if I manage to find her that is."
the lights got closer as she walked but not by much as it seemed like it would take her an eternity to get there by walking. After an hour and a half she found a sign that said "Welcome to the city of Chicacolt." she walked farther and started to see other ponies and soon the buildings started to get larger and more notably, taller. She saw lots of ponies walking through the streets of the city and lots of wheeled metal carts most likely what was on the large paths she first saw. Honey continued to explore the large high rise city when she spotted a police department. "yes I can find her there!" She rushed to the building and entered in taking in the sights of the interior. "How may I help you ma'am?" said the pony behind the reception desk. "I'm looking for a friend of mine and I thought you could help me direct me to her." replied Honey Spark. "What's your friend's name?" the receptionist asked. "Her name is Skittle Sweet." Honey exclaimed. the mare behind the desk started to tap on her computer, a machine that Honey wasn't too familiar with even though they do have types of computers back in her universe. "I have one entry from 12 hours ago. Red coat and multicolored mane. Wears glasses and is a unicorn. Is that her?" Honey looks at the picture taken and is astounded by how fast she got herself set up in this new universe. "Yeah that's her!" Honey said loudly. "I guess you're new here as well so do you mind if we put you in the city database?" asked the receptionist. "Yeah sure!" Honey said and the receptionist prompted her over towards the photo area and took a quick picture of Honey. the two headed back to where they were previously. "What's your name?" asked the receptionist. "Honey Spark miss." She replied. "Alright you're in, and here's this." the receptionist handed her a card with her name, photo, and personal information. Honey was surprised at how much they knew about her. "wow, how did you find out my height and my birth date?" Honey asked. "I took your information from the cloud where everypony's information is kept. It's very secure so no need to worry about hackers trying to get in." the police mare explained. "Well thanks for helping me out." Honey said and walked out of the police station.
