Children of the night

In the beginning there was the sun and the moon. Two gods guided them over the skies of equestria, bringing life to their children who lived below. For thousands of years the two sisters lived In harmony until a terrible war ravaged the world they helped to keep in harmony. It was long and brutal, mistrust and greed spread across the land as all of the sister's children began to fight for resources that seemed to have run scarce. When the war was over the sister's destroyed the empire that had formed in its wake. After man had succeeded in destroying themselves the sisters agreed they could never let another war be waged on the lands they helped form out so they devised a plan. Both sisters chose disciples from the world below and contacted them. They told them that in exchange for watching over the lands below and stopping any indications of war, they would be granted sanctuary among them when they became one with the heavens.  They all agreed and so was formed two groups of remarkable people. The disciples of the sister who ruled the sun were known as the children of the sun while the others were called children of the moon. Both organazation's mission was to sniff out rebellion or strife before it caused war and snuff it out. For three thousand years this method worked perfectly and new generations of children were born to carry on thier families legacy of protecting Equestria. But soon a rift began forming between the two sisters. The sister of the moon became paranoid that her sister was plotting to overthrow her position so she could rule of the sun and the moon. When the sister finally snapped, she and her disciples raged a war that the sister of the sun was trying to prevent I. Equestria. After a long conflict, in which both sides lost many good people, the sister of the sun decided to banish her sister to the moon for all of eternity. After her ordeal, and with her sister banished, the sister of the sun branded all children of the moon as traitors, and with one order she had her own desciples hunt them down to be brought to justice. After 10 years it was thought that all of the children of the moon were captured but the sister of the sun never dreamed that a handful of them were able to conceal themselves among the humans below. After 200 years, the children of the moon have regrown thier numbers and have decided it would be better to stay hidden away, never to use thier powers again for fear of being found. And so the children of the sun and the children of the moon faded away into legend. But after banishing her sister, the sister of the sun discovered that the sacred artifacts that allowed her to guide the sun across the sky was missing along with her sister's. These artifacts were thought to have been given to the children of the moon by the sister of the moo. To hide among the mortal world so that her sister could not rule at all. Eventually the sun and the moon found their own way to guide themselves across the sky, though they still await the return of a ruler to once again guide them across the heavens.

"Owww!" Shadow yelps as Sunset Shimmer thumps him on the head hard." What the hell?!" He mutter staring at her.

" The teacher is talking to you stupid!" She mutters jerking her head toward the front of the class where Mr. Dust was raising his eyebrow at him.

" Sorry, what were you saying?" The rest of the class snickers and giggles. The teacher rolls his eyes.

" Once again Mr. Shadow.......in what year was the zebra empire defeated by the equestrian colonies?" He asks

" Uhhh.....1756 right?" He smiles hopefully closing the book he was reading.

" No that was the year equestria was discovered." He shakes his head

"Oh...." Shadow slides his copy of Equestrian History by Silver Quill out of his desk.

" I know your mind would rather be elsewhere right now Mr. Shadow but please.....at least try and pay attention." Mr. Dust says turning back to the chalkboard and continuing." Now, in 1879 the equestrian militia and thier gryphon allies beat back the advancing zebra forces at The Battle of Fort Sunrise. They were able to take control of the port and gathered supplies front the ships docked there......"

Shadow sighed as his teacher trailed off.

"Hey what were you reading?" Sunset shimmer asks twisting around in her seat.

Shadow pulls the book he was reading out from under his history book and hands it to her." It's called Equestrian Legends and Lore by Moon beam." He whispers as she takes it and flips open the cover.

"Never heard of her....." She says reading the first page. Suddenly a hand snatches the book away.

"Reading fiction again Shadow?" Mr. Dust reads the cover and chuckles." We only discuss facts in this class Mr. Shadow, not about fiction such as this....." He drops the book back on the desk.

"It is facts." Shadow challenges.

Mr. Dust stops dead." Says who exactly?? If there was evidence of some god sisters who moved the sun, I think we would have recorded it somewhere." He says smiling as he tried keeping him temper.

"How would you know?" He asks.

"It's my job to know these things, now....." Shadow cuts him off.

"So?? There are things even you don't know..." This time Shadow crossed the line.

" THATS ENOUGH!" Mr. Dust yells and takes a breath before turning to Shadow." That will cost you 6 hours of detention this Friday Mr. Shadow, and I'm not afraid to give you another. Now pay attention!" He growls and walks back to the chalk board.

Shadow groans as the class returns their attention back to the teacher." Great......tomorrow is Friday.......this day can't possibly get worse." He says leaning back.

Shadow didn't know how wrong he was, because his whole view of the works was about to be permanently changed.
