The loud sound of thunder could be heard in the distance. The rain poured down onto the empty road, abandoned from all forms of traffic and ponies. No houses on the sides of the road, only trees, no streetlights of any sort, only the moon shining, making the water bright for a few seconds before hitting the ground. The harsh winds made the leaves fly off the trees, pushing them a long distance before they slowly fell to the ground.
Angel heart, a white pegasi wearing a black jacket and a tattoo on her left front leg was walking down the road. Her red eyes stood out in the darkness behind her glasses, making it the most noticeable thing about her. Her heart cutiemark with a couple of wings were barely noticeable under the black jacket.
“God damn this weather, and damn those train conductors. “It´s too dangerous to drive in this weather.” I mean come on. Man up a bit would you?”
Angel sighted and looked to her right side, her right wing was holding around a black and white figure.
“Well at least I got you Storm Flyer, but I have to say, if you weren’t here I could have flown home.”
Angle smiled and tapped the figure with her wing.
Looking behind her, Angel couldn’t see anypony or anything for that matter coming towards them that could help a bit. Angel closed her eyes and thought back to the day Storm and she had had together.
Storm Flyer and Angel had been in The Crystal Empire to deliver a package to somepony at a hotel. Not wanting to leave too soon they had stayed for a couple of hours to check the city out.
They had been looking at the castle, the giant crystal statue of the dragon Spike after he had saved the Crystal Hearth. After the visit to the castle, they had stopped by a baker and bought a pie made from crystal berries.
And then out of nowhere it had started to rain, and it had picked up in a surprisingly fast pace. One minute the empire had been full of ponies talking, buying stuff and just having a good time, to all of a sudden be abandoned, like some strange creature had been attacking them.
Angel had been just as surprised. With Storm Flyer they had gotten to the train station in a hurry to take the next train home, but had gotten the bad news about the train not going anywhere due to the weather.
Without money to pay a hotel room for the night they had started to move out of the town.
A loud crack broke Angel’s thoughts. She looked in front of her and saw that a lightning bolt had struck a tree, setting it ablaze lighting the road up in front of them.
“Holy Celestia, if that had hit us we would have been toast.”
Angel said looking over at Storm Flyer.
“We better get moving, if we are lucky we can find some place to stay for the night.”
Angel started to move faster, her wing still around Storm. The hard wind and rain pouring down quickly got the fire under control. The tree had been split down from the top to the middle. Making the two half’s of the tree bend away from each other. Small pieces of wood were scattered onto the road, making a small cracking noise as the two figures trotted over them.
Angel looked up in the sky, beginning to laugh while walking.
“Oh Storm, maybe our situation could have been a lot better, but being here with you is helping a whole lot”
Angel looked over at the figure next to her.
“I love you Storm. I can’t even imagine my life without you. When I found you I knew it had to be us.”
Angel hugged Storm close in to her with her wing, taking a deep breath and slowly breathing out.
Around fifteen minutes passed with walking down the road and Angel began to grow tired. The harsh wind kept slowing them both down and the cold rain tore on Angel’s physical strength. Finding it hard to keep her eyes open she did her best to look in front of her and focus, trying to see if there was a place to rest.
Angel´s head rose when she saw something in the distance. It looked like some sort of barn and a little house on the side of the road.
“Heh looks like we have a bit of luck on our side Storm. Let’s just hope they let us stay for the night.”
Angel picked up the speed with Storm under her wing. It felt like she had gotten much more strength in her body. It only took them a few minutes before arriving at the side of a big wooden barn. Quickly walking around it Angel could see the front door, slightly lit up by a small lantern standing on the front porch to the house.
“Let´s hope somepony is home”
Angel walked up to the front door, using her left hoof to knock on the door. A loud manly voice could be heard from the top floor of the house.
“Who in the name of Celestia is knocking at this time of night?”
Shortly after a mare’s voice could be heard.
“I don’t know sweetie, let me check. Just go back to sleep.”
Hoofsteps walking down a set of stairs could be heard from inside the house, Angel only had to wait a few seconds before the door swung open and a yellow mare in a long black nightdress stood in front of her.
“If you are here to sell anything we won’t buy it”
“Uhm no I’m not here to sell you anything. Storm flyer here and I have been walking from The Crystal Empire and would ask if we could stay for the night?”
Angel smiled. The Mare in the house looked at Angel and then over at Storm.
“You can get in but that is staying outside”
Angel shook her head furiously.
“I’m not leaving Storm out in this weather, no way”
“Well you could always stay in the barn I guess, just as long you don’t scare the animals and that you leave when my husband ask you to.”
The mare looked at Angel with a tired look.
Angel smiled and naught her head in agreement.
“Sounds fine to me, thank you”
Angel wrapped her wing around Storm again and walked to the barn. The mare in the house shook her head and closed the door.
Angel and Storm got inside the barn. Angel looked around and found a stack of hay in the back they could sleep on. Walking over and laying Storm and herself down onto the hay next to each other, Angel smiled.
“Thanks for a awesome day Storm. Tomorrow we will be fixing that wheel and you will be able to light up the roads again”
Angel laid her wing on top of the aluminum bars, covering a bit of the flat back tire. Quickly falling asleep with a smile on her lips.
