Chapters The Hooves Family's Winter Outing (Derpy)
Dinky Hooves' tiny ears twitched at the sound of the pure snow crunching underneath her hooves. The soft flakes of delicate frost swirled around the foal's head as she inhaled the cool breath of winter. The season was alive, and so was Dinky. She frolicked among the snow covered pathways, waltzing about as her mane swirled about in the blowing wind. She tugged on Amethyst Stars' scarf, causing the older mare to meet the foals' gaze. The younger unicorn motioned towards the snow covered hillsides as she danced among the falling flakes of ice. The eldest one acknowledged her sister with a wink, then dashed off into the flurry of crystalline ice, and towards the snow covered hillsides that lay ahead.
As Dinky rushed to join the older mare in the snow, their mother gave a joyful sigh. To see her children's bright faces filling up with such joy brought a warm feeling to her heart. Muffin trotted behind her kin, leaving a fine trail of dainty, hoof-shaped imprints in her wake. She took pride in her happy foals, and it was showing upon her beaming face as Muffin rejoined the other ponies on the snowy hillside, laughing away and smiling underneath the grey winter clouds.

Sending a wave of fear and discontent through my spine
I see her staring back at me
That sugary sweet candy kissing smile
She pulls the leftmost corner of her smooth grin upwards ever so slightly
Lifting her liquidizing eyes to meet my own
Causing me to melt into her grasp
I can't move
I can't speak
I am trapped
She does not move
But her sweet jingling laughter tickles my ear
Like the soft ringing of bronze laden bells
Polished to perfection by masterful craftsmen
She effortlessly steals away my will
A Blustery Stroll (Princess Celestia)
The air was crisp on Hearth's Warming Eve, and the grey, snow-filled clouds were gathered above Canterlot. All of the technicolor residents were nestled safely away in their homes beside their roaring fireplaces, engaging themselves in the winter holiday's cheerful festivities... all except for one lone alicorn, whose hooves landed gently down on the feathery snow that lay upon the walkway of the once bustling city. Each warm breath from her lungs intruded upon the frozen wintry air; the moist molecules of fresh oxygen freezing upon coming into direct contact with below-zero temperatures and creating a delicate fog that drifted lazily away from the pony. Her brightly colored scarf swirled with the wind as her pastel mane whipped smoothly past her face with the blowing of the gentle breeze.
Princess Celestia lifted her head to look towards the clouds above, which were constantly dropping meticulously crafted snowflakes as the seconds ticked by. She took a deep breath of cold air, relishing the taste of a new winter as the freezing air sent a sharp tingling sensation down her windpipe with each collected breath. The princess held out her brightly colored hoof to catch a single fake of the delicate white substance that drifted down from above. The white mare gazed upon the pure flake as it gently melted away in her warm hoof, studying its intricate patterns as the tiny crystal vanished.
She lifted her head towards the sky; her deep lavender hued eyes closed as she took a deep breath inwards, savoring the taste of the fresh seasonal air.
Time seemed to slow in that moment. The swirling flakes of winter's legacy drifted towards the earth with fine grace as the alicorn's mind calmed immensely, flushing out the stress of a long day's stressful work. The cool rush of air all around her created a smooth, graceful waltz of frozen air that lapped at Celestia's technicolor mane, lifting each lone strand of her flowing apparatus a few centimeters upwards as the calming wind caressed each feathery layer of her ethereal hair.
The slow song of winter rose from the frost-blanketed earth, enrapturing the tall mare with its serene melody. The tiny, elegant snowflakes danced about in the frigid climate, enticing the branches from the snow-covered trees to sway back and forth. The seemingly barren plants sprang to life in that moment, undulating with winter's cool, blustery kisses. A sharp sensation pricked at the tip of Celestia's snout, allowing the cold air to seep into her velvety, white fur and fill her warm body with sheer joy as the wind's tempo picked up speed.
Princess Celestia unfurled her massive, vibrant wings and bent her knees at a sharp angle, pushing her hooves off of the frosty land as she swiftly lifted her bundled body upwards once more. She took to the air, spreading her wings as far as she could in an effort to capture every whisper that winter had to offer. The mare rose higher into the air, frolicking in the open air with a wide, joyous smile adorning her cheeks. She dipped downward for but a moment before giving on graceful flap of her well-preened wings relishing in the cool air that drifted to and fro with winter's rhythmic flow, each jubilant moment granting the white mare greater jubilance in her upbeat, yet tender winter dance.
She whipped her elegant wings to the left side, crossing her rightmost wing over her breast and gently drifting to the right. She dipped downwards once more, rising sharply into the air and spreading her front hooves to embrace the sky above her head in a commanding dance, which beckoned each and every stray flake surrounding her to circle her shimmering body. The wind seemingly sang out as the princess directed the snowfall with fluid, graceful movement, caressing the sky with her feathery wings as the cheerful air belted out gales of frozen melodies that took the nearby tree branches up into their joyous dance. Every asset of winter meshed and drifted to the rhythms winter's seasonal song, complimenting the powerful alicorn leader's movements with tact and moving together in perfect harmony. No longer did the heavens have control of the skies; Celestia was the conductor now.
Celestia twirled among the frozen air, guiding the waiting wind and changing the subtle flow of pure snow. She danced among the clouds for what seemed like an eternity before nature's unadulterated, frosty liveliness died down, leaving Princess Celestia with but a slow, fading breeze of frost-bitten air. Just like that, the feeling was gone. Like the dying kiss of a wounded lover fading into a lonely night, the winter's cheerful spirit had left the royal mare standing in the cold with her soft, fleece-lined winter apparel.
Although winter's melodies had failed to resume, not all liveliness was drained from that moment. Princess Celestia angled her massive wings, which were surprisingly light, and gently flapped. This action alone allowed for a slow, gentle descent. She savored every wisp of icy wind that blew her way as she drifted downwards, smiling contently as winter's cheer sobered in Canterlot's evening air. As the princess reached the welcoming pavement below, the dreary clouds above enveloped the sky, dimming the light of the fading sun.
The princess looked to the sun, smiling warmly as it beckoned its mistress to lower its light in an effort to pave the way for a much needed nighttime cycle. After a long winter's day, the sun's energy above Equestria's segment of the planet was surely exhausted by now, inciting the alicorn to make her way back to the palace and set her cosmic child to rest among the heavens. With a fresh, stress-free mind, Princess Celestia lifted her wings and took to the skies, drifting gently towards her residential tower within the palace. Her love for winter, which had not been roused for 1000 years, was now reignited, and the princess couldn't be happier.
She landed atop her balcony and shed her warm clothes, feeling the silky smooth fabric rub against her fur as she peeled each fabric from her bright, white fur. Celestia trod over to her balcony, with not a shred of longing for the cool wind, as her sprightly dance with winter had fulfilled her desire to feel the cold against her fur once more after 1000 years of winter's lonely absence from her career. The princess gazed over towards her sister's tower, smiling as she saw the deep blue mare plod sleepily out from her towering residence. There was no need to fret now. Luna was safe, and winter was in full-throttle.
As the younger alicorn took notice of her elder sister's presence across the way, she waved, inciting a nod of acknowledgement from the solar princess. Celestia's chest puffed out with pride as her sister beamed, the joy of simply seeing her older sister rippling throughout her facial muscles. The elder mare smiled and looked to the sun. Now that the two sisters could rule in harmony once more, she had no doubts that the future would be bright for both of them. Celestia's horn glowed with a sunny aura as she took up the sun within her loving, magical embrace. For one thousand straight years, raising and lowering the sun had dwindled in novelty, becoming a dreadful chore that only served to remind the princess of her sister's absence.
Now that she had returned, Celestia could finally enjoy her day again. Finally, she was at peace, after 1000 years if sorrow. She lifted her head and beamed at the cosmos, laying the sun to rest among the stars as the Equestrian skies embraced the coming joy of night. No longer was the moon a symbol of fear and regret, but of passion and sisterly love. Once again, Celestia could enjoy the day to night cycle without the guilt of her sister's imprisonment and envy weighing down on both of the royal sister's shoulders. Celestia chuckled softly.
She could already smell breakfast.
Clear skies reflect off of your deep retina
Shining clearly in the bright summer sunlight
Like little mirrors that sit upon your face
Occasionally yearning for a reflection to admire you through them
I think I'm seeing pink
Oh how my stomach swirls while my brain is vacant of her thought
She looks back at me
Filling me with a warm, pulsating aura that shocks my skull
And erupts through my beating heart
Ill spoken truths roll through the hillsides
They run rampant through the towns
And brush past the shoulders of the schoolchildren as they pass on through the cracks in the old cellar
Slipping past the watchful eyes of the neighbors as their ill will seeps through the land like cool winter air
It leaves no trace of its presence
Not a shred of existence as it rolls on by
Motherly Love (Chrysalis)
The changeling queen stretched her weary chitin-clad limbs, listening to the crinkling and crackling of her worn and weary exoskeleton. Judging by the way her skin was shifting, she could safely assume that molting would be her first priority on the dawn of the next day. As she laid her hindquarters down to sit upon the well kept floor of the hive, the queen began to hear the rustling of countless wings as well as numerous light, hollow hoof steps, all of which were getting closer to where she sat. Soon enough, she saw the first changeling poke its head around the corner of the room, then excitedly dash up to its mother in order to be the first one to curl up next to her. Queen Chrysalis grinned widely as she embraced her children, all of whom were struggling to get a position right next to their queen.
She reached for a small group of particularly young changeling who were dwelling right off to the side, levitating them into the air and setting them in front of her. The queen reached her hole filled forelegs out to the young ones and pulled them in for a hug, pressing them close against the smooth skin of her chest. The queen closed her eyes to take a deep breath, feeling the warmth resonating off of her children's bodies as she embraced them. Chrysalis opened her eyes to gaze upon the rest of her brood, smiling a she did so. The love that she provided for her children was reflected upon their beaming faces, giving the queen a warm feeling that began in her chest, moving all throughout her body and leaving a pleasant sensation within her heart. It was clear to the children, and it was true: mother was overjoyed to have the company of her dear changeling brood.
She's a tea kettle
A lovely being crafted from only the finest porcelain
Shaped from raw, celestial beauty
Adorned with divinity
Heat rising from the depths of her conscious
Coming to a boil as the seconds tick by
Erupting in a flurry of steam and intense rage
Scorching the land with her scalding might

Solid stones amidst the bluest seas
Oh how I'd love for you
To just look at me
Short and sweet
You thrum to the beat
Swaying to and fro
Flashing a welcoming smile as you waltz across the way
I don't know why
But it's hard to look away
You're hypnotic
You enrapture me with your deep lavender eyes
Although I can't help but notice that something is a bit off
Are you sick or something, dear?
Red hot pools seep through the cracks
Dripping down the walls and trailing crimson rivers across the surface
Dropping heavily to the ground below
This world has the flavor of rust
Watchful eyes of glowing matter
Two white voids of empty light
He peeks through the brambles as you pass
He never speaks, he never moves
He always watches you
Staring
Smiling
Standing
A hint of malice swirled within his wide grin
Don't make eye contact
Don't let him see your heart
Dropping through Distant Time
Have you ever had that dream...
Where you're falling into blackness?
Fading from the realm of the living
As the world drops below you, screaming until your lungs run dry
No one is around to hear you scream...
Yet you're still alive
No one hears you
No one ever does
And your voice trails on
Carried by the wandering winds
Tiny wisps of air
To be ignored by the bustling populace
Empty
hollow
nonexistent
crying
Closer and closer they creep
Giving way to your rampant fears
Wide fanged grins slathered in metallic regret
Gnashing and shining in the pale moonlight
Crawling closer evermore
Pawing at the dusty trails with matted claws
Their sickle-like appendages stabbing at the forlorn grounds as they draw ever closer
Widening their smiles as you tremble before their might
You're hopeless now
When all is dark for restful slumber
Heads laid to rest in nightfall's embrace
He'll rise above the word
And tear this land asunder
The blazing fields light the darkened sky
Like lunar tears falling delicately to the world below
And engulfing the land in a hateful haze
He rips across the sky
Stripping this world of its meaning
Tearing chasms apart like massive yawning maws stretching across the earth
His siren melody rings across the way
Dissonant choirs rising above as birds to the wind
Worming his way into beating hearts
Twisting once affectionate beings
Leaving all the world in a blurred medley of strife and ruin
As he sings his song of discord
Sweet little chew
Chocolate fondue
Sugar coated droplets
Drowning in icing
Oh how I'd love to decimate you
Just wait until that timer screeches
Singing the song that marks your inevitable demise
I can't wait to take you out of the oven...
Triple chocolate super duper mega diabetes-giving vanilla swirl cake of doom
Sitting down on the wet concrete
he wet slap of shoes against massive pools of sky borne tears ringing in your ears
Through all the mist and the warm moist air
Arrives a face
Or lack thereof
So clear and bold
You see her eyes
The clearest of oceans staring back at you
You gaze into her upturned smile
Melting away as rust turns to dust
Can you hear the rain?
It falls upon the coolest of nights
The soft sweet weeping of the heavens
Enrapturing all whom see it with its rhythmic pounding
A soft thumping sound that reverberates across the sky
echoing within hearts everywhere
The drum beat of the mother earth's mandatory warranted sorrow
Washing away the pain of yesterday
To set free the tortured souls of the world
With her sweet chilled tears
Grey lilies sit dormant in the valley
Swaying in the wind
Dancing among aviary whispers
Cool oxygenated breaths that caress the earth's mottled skin
Smooth petals of the softest velvet
Adorned with satin blooms
The greenest of accessories upon lithe limbs
The most graceful of dances
Life is such a sweet soiree
I see diamonds in your eyes
Your glittering iris peeks out from behind your hair
Glimmering lowly in the dim light
That sprightly glow of which I covet
I dream of it during the hours of dawn
And shiver in the cold unloving confines of the new moon's dark skies
I see those eyes spilling
Please stop
I don't want to see you so upset
I see you standing idly by
Watching my every move
Like a predator stalking its prey
You are diligent
Precariously recording my every move within your mind
Planning each and every twitch with extreme precision
Predicting the events ahead of time
Using the clock to your advantage
Sitting in your golden chalice
Swept away by sanguine punch
Drifting in a sea of crimson bliss
Drunk off your salty gaze alone
Swimming in your chilling eyes
The bluest of chilled oceans the shock my bones with their fury
Dangerous seas of arctic punishment
Tossing me about in your crashing waves
And drowning in your eyes
Whose skin reflects the pale hues of midnight's love starved sky
Radiating pure beauty into the night itself as the moon gazes comfortably from her place among the stars
Watching as you embrace her light with your perfection
Is it your long hair drenched by the nightfall's tranquil hues
Of which I adore so much?
I would skip my own meals to feed your starved soul
Quenching your dry heart to bestow a fine feast of love and adoration upon you
Your Highness
You are a queen, my dear
And I am your servant
Loyal and faithful
My undying devotion pours into your heart
I've known you for so long yet you seem so new
Every time I see your face it's like the first contact all over again
I shall see to it that you are adored
Admired with limitless words of awe stricken glee
Your jubilant eyes light up the night
My sweet night princess
Queen of ringing cadence and sweet melodies
You
Whom has no claim over celestial orbit
Yet you still never cease to amaze us all
Go outside my queen
Show the jealous moon your midnight valley hues
Make her envy your beauty
Which rivals that of the stars above her head
You are already unrivaled by the realm of the living
You might as well take on the celestial plain in a contest of worth and beauty
Piercing light strikes the air
Impaling the heavens like a flash of white death
Crashing below to the mud soaked earth
Scorching the surface of the dampened world as the universe above sobs in its imminent hazy sorrow
It crushes the world with booming cries of heavenly sound
Audible rage that shocks the souls of the innocent
Rising up for a moment before plummeting to the land below
Screaming as otherworldly tears drop from the sky's cloudy eyes like ripe summer mangoes falling from their leafy cradles
Dense sound rumbling above the atmosphere
A low mumble starting slow
Rising as the sky growls in discontent
Atmospheric tension boils above
Then it lashes out
Striking the mortal earth with white hot pillars of storming rage
Frying the cellulose skin of the trees below whom dare to taunt the mighty sky with their endless flamboyant waving
As the howling air sends a low cry of warning
It strikes again
This time it simmers with audible fury
Starting as a deep grumble and raising its voice
The heavens attack once more
A hallowed cry of immense agony shakes the very earth itself
Shifting continents and cracking the world's rocky skull right open
As all the world eventually calms
And the sky
Whose complexion is flushed with furious grey hues
Retreats to solemnity once more
Leaving the world to recover with only the rising sun for comfort
Quiet dawn creeps into view
Silently filling our world with pleasant light and celestial adoration
As our friendly moon plods off to peaceful slumber
We rub our groggy little eyes and mumble sweet morning greeting to the world above
Which has been enlightened by the brilliant sun
Tranquil evenings settle upon our world
Blanketing the drowsy sky in a sheet of gentle light which sits upon a backdrop of inky blackness
As the night seeps into our view it stains our sky with serenity and tranquility
Soothing dulcent tones caress my ears
Delicately stroking my soul and soothing my conscious
Pouring long drawn out melodies to leave me in a state of loose solemnity
Drifting among my dreams
Slowly undulating until it rises up into the heavens
Never to be touched again as it dissipates in the crisp morning air
Losing all sense of existence as the sound gradually fades away
She's a mad cruel duchess
sly and fierce
She prowls the halls like a predator
slowly stalking
Slowly slinking along until she strikes
stabbing at the heart with vicious lovely words
She drowns me in her finesse
silently choking on her perfection
So devoid of breath yet still alive
she easily devours my conscience
Rattling cries tremble throughout the decaying building
Unsettling noises upon a tranquil land
Causing the planet's core to shudder within its unease
Drifting apart as billowing smoke rises in great plumes of throat clamping substances
Choking the atmosphere in its dry dusty grasp and causing the rotting wood to shift
Seventy Five Degrees Below Zero
Winter is cold
Fear is cold
Loneliness may be cold too
But then again
So are you
Shrill screams pierce the air
Audible and rich
Dulled by the thick morning air
The lark stops singing
Yet the deer are still frolicking
No one notices
No one ever will
Your hatred rips the air like blades through jelly
Reaching its peak as it boils over
Tearing you apart and crushing the innocent gaze
Until the little flies buzz away into the night
And the whispering suddenly ceases
The wolves are hungry
They circle like buzzards
Waiting for a chance
Patient as the moon
They keep dancing in their dizzy rounds
But they don't strike
Love blooms like daffodils in the spring
At first they're shy and meek
They don't want to come out to say hello
Then they warm up to the common folk and poke their tiny heads out from behind their thin velvety shielding arms
They sing with the wind soon afterwards
Only hiding themselves when its time to sleep among blankets of browning leaves and cold little snowdrops
Her light shines upon us all
Filling our hearts with joy as we look up to see her gleaming beacon of hope high above the clouds
Far above the confines of our atmosphere and shielded by a blanket of thick immense heat
After a long lasting nightmare she finally pokes through the darkened sky
Breaking the deep oil seas of the night's presence
Shimmering and shining as her crystalline light reflects upon the world
Leading us to a new age of hope and prosperity
Why don't you sing?
You're not bleeding
You don't look bruised
So why can't I hear you?
What words can I use to describe your presence?
Your lithe form lingers in the back of my mind
Like the sweet taste of fairy floss at a summer festival
I can't escape
Relishing in the torment
As you crush me with your lavender stare's iron grip
A swift gaze that holds me captive in their sweet, opulent vice
My desire to stand next to you
To stray by your side and link arms
To kneel before my regal lady and deliver a delicate kiss to the back of her hoof
Those pillowy lips
Softer than the plumage of graceful swans
Whose natural beauty dares not rival your own
In fact, your mother must have been part swan
Such movements do you mimic so precisely
The fluid swaying of your curvaceous form is imprinted in my mind
Your long hair, awash with bright gold and soft purple hues
How it cascades down your shoulders, drifting with your every movement
Oh, how hypnotic it is
It is impossible for me to escape my stone prison
Trapped in your electrifying eyes
Imprisoned by your enamoring iris
To see you is to know true beauty is
Your crystalline heart glimmers in the light
Your inner opulence outshining all other women
Like a beacon in the inky blackness of the world
Your light shines through the fog, piercing the thick obstruction between us and reaching my soul
Filling me with your radiance and allowing me to find my way to your heart

Heart is Where the Hearth is (Amethyst Star)
The air was fairly warm in the Hooves' household as a passionate blaze sizzled in the brick fireplace. Thin wisps of smoke rose up the chimney and out into the cold air, joining the relentless storm blowing restlessly in the outside world. The violently swirling snow gathered upon the windows and covered the edges of clear glass closest to the framing of the panes, leaving tiny patterned flakes stubbornly sticking the frozen glass.
All was quiet in the quaint Ponyville residence, save for the vicious howling of the blustery wind outside the safety of the warm walls. Upstairs, a small unicorn foal lay in the comfort of her bed curled up with a book. Within the kitchen was a gentle grey pegasus, who waited patiently beside the oven as her blueberry muffins began to rise. The irresistible scent of fresh, gooey, solidifying pastries wove throughout the house as the cold, heartless wrath of the mid-winter blizzard thrashed about in the outside world.
As the wind howled, a silent pink mare sat before the hearth, levitating a plush scarf into the air with her magic. She sighed as the fluffy material wrapped around her neck, filling her cold neck with a warm, tingling sensation that spread throughout her body as the fibers from the fabric brushed against her skin. The feeling didn't last though, and what little warmth the scarf had provided for her was immediately sapped from every orifice, save for her neck.
The fireplace may have provided the house with a fair amount of warm air, but that warmth was reserved strictly to those in front of the fireplace due to the cruel nature of the freezing storm outside, whose relentlessly invasive tendrils of wicked air seeped in through every crack in the walls. Although the rest of her body was still left in the cold, the pink pony didn't seem to mind. The unicorn mare looked over towards the kitchen; gazing lovingly at her sweet mother sitting silently by the oven. She may have been cold on the outside, but her love for her family was what kept her heart the warmest, even without a scarf.
