Chapter 1-The golden pocket watch
There is a family of a mother, a father and a child who live in a small cottage in Pony ville. They own about 10 acres of land outside of Pony ville where they let some of their relatives live. And on these acres they grow apples, this is because apple trees were already on the land when they moved there for a bit, and afterwards moved on over to Pony ville because the acres were too much to handle on their own. (And yes they do envy the Apple family's apple bucking skills.) And so eventually after just owning the land with out maintaining it, they had relatives move in to take care of it and eventually organized a small family business.
And though the trees looked nice and lovely, they aren't apart of this story as of this particular moment in the said story that you are currently reading. For this story is actually about the child of the family of 3. This child is a filly, and this young filly upon birth had taken the name of "Marya Slinger". And if you would like to know why she was given this name, it is because the relatives of her father's side were rather good at writing and were called "Ink Slingers" and so yes they were very good writers, unfortunately my skills may not be as developed in this department. Never the less, Marya had a rather strange last name thanks to her heritage's reputation.
Marya's mother was more on the musical side of the "talent spectrum" and though she liked her maiden name, she didn't mind changing it to "Slinger".... for some odd reason. But yes, she was very good with musical instruments, though she only used her talent to beg for money near the train stations. It did work surprisingly well though to say the least. She gained a reputation and got the nick-name "Siren", this was because she would have very lovely music, and then she had a yak friend who was basically a bouncer who would make stallions reconsider trying to make a move on her. The yak's was named Sheela.
And as you may have guessed Marya is an earth pony, either from the lazily drawn cover art that I made, or just from the fact that their family lived on the ground, which executed the possibility of her being a pegasus. And also the fact that her family had a hard time maintaining an apple farm, which unicorns are very good at doing. And so from guess and check you may have determined that she is either not a pony at all, or just an earth pony. Very well done reader, you have successfully become more logical in that you have found the race of the filly I am writing about. Well... that, or you have looked at a picture and have improved your skill of being observant. Then again I suppose either way that you figured out what race of pony she is would have improved that skill anyway.
But your skills are not relevant to this story, just as are the trees, even if they look nice and pretty because the filly's relatives decided to do maintain them for profit. And so I should begin the story. But I do suppose that I should fill in a final gap before we get started on why the filly is the story. And this gap as you may have found, would be the fact that owning the extra land would only make them owe more money to taxes, and that the apples couldn't pay for them alone. And how we would fill this gap in would be through all those royalties that her father gets from writing. For you see although it may not seem like it could be, he is actually a very famous author, unlike Yours Sincerely. Which yes, I know is a confusing name for a pony to have, and this is most likely why she isn't all that popular.
Anyway, yes, Marya's father is actually a fairly successful man in the writing industry. And really, he himself isn't really famous because he writes under a pen name, which I am obligated to keep secret for the sake of Marya's family. And so away from the father of the family, lets move on to the daughter of the family: Marya. Marya has no skill in writing what so ever. She has no skills from her mother either, and as a matter of fact she has a rare genetic disease which actually makes her incapable of earning a cutie mark. And though this may seem a cruel fate by the hands of an even crueler god by the name of Celestia, it actually allows for more freedom, because she is able to decide her own fate rather than have one that she is bound to for eternity.
And you may think that she is just a shoe-in for the Cutie Mark Crusaders, and honestly she really is, I mean come on, it's just too perfect of an opportunity. But I should just shut up about what I think would be "cool to happen" because that is just poor writing.... not too insult those of you who may have done this in your stories.... maybe it works in your story? I wouldn't know ...........*ahem*. Anyway she likes to stay away from being in clubs unless they are academic, in which case if you find her in chess club, just... go easy. She goes into the academics mainly because her father knows she has the genetic disease because he found out from the town fortune teller who helps with children's names. And so he knows that she will need to go into all this academic stuff so that she can do anything instead of just one thing. This is also why he named her "Marya", because it has no affiliation with anything other than being happy maybe.... because of the "merry" sounding part of the name? Yeah.
So anyway let's begin Marya's merry little story, which of course, would begin with Marya. She is in her home and is playing with toys as little children are prone to do. The said toys resemble a dinosaur and a G.I.Pony, with the dinosaur dressed in lipstick and a very tiny bikini fit for such a toy. And after a few kisses between the two toys she later decides to go outside into the lovely weather, she wanders around town but not before meeting with her friends who ask if she wants to join their club again, which they do every time they meet with her. And yes, yes they are the CMC, but that is besides the point she just isn't apart of their club because her father has told her not to join them for some odd reason that nobody knows. But she is too nice to not at the very least be their friend, because after all, friendship is sweet like root beer.
And so she asks her mother if she can go play with her friends, and then she gives her a curfew for when she needs to come back to the house. She then agrees to said terms, because when it comes to parents they will yell at you for even slightly trying to bicker about something, and she ends up having to go by what her mother says after the yelling even though she gave good reasoning. The process is quite similar to copyright infringement. So anyway, she goes off with her friends to go do amazing things like kill dragons (I am referring to the plastic dinosaur with a pair of glossy, red lips),and not only are they fighting the dragon, but also their best friend G.I.Pony is there to help them kill the facially well groomed, giant reptile.
Marya then asks after slaying the gigantic 50 foot reptile, if any of her friends can give her a watch. They say no but also say that they feel like Twilight has one. And Marya feels as though she is going to meet a strange pony. Honestly what kind of pony lives in a tree? An odd kind, that's what. Anyway her friends take her to Twilight's home to find whether not the odd pony has some time to give *budumtissss*..... yeah. So the little fillies tell Marya to knock on the door and she does so hesitantly in thinking that Twilight will be oddest pony. So after she has done this, Spike answers the door. Marya feels relieved but also finding this to be a somewhat odder encounter than meeting Twilight, because honestly what kind of dragon lives in a tree?.... A tame one?..... Sure.
And so after seeing the CMC who he knows and Marya who he doesn't Spike logically asks, "Who are you ponies?", because he now has amnesia due to Twilight's relentless teleportation. And Twilight hearing something downstairs realizes that Spike has answered the door and quickly puts him next to his comfort toys that are helping to keep himself occupied.
And so Twilight then asked, "Who is the new filly?"
The CMC then told Twilight that Marya is Marya.
Marya then asked Twilight politely but also without eye contact, "Do you have a watch I can borrow?"
Twilight ever so quickly says in response, "Uuuuummmmm.... maybe..... come on in and help me look for one."
The CMC and Marya go into Twilight's home to find that there are very many books scattered on the floor due to Spike being in a constant state of confusion because of his amnesia.
And so Twilight tells the girls, "Sorry about the mess, Spike usually does the house work."
And so with that being said, Marya asks, "Why don't you hire a maid?"
Not realizing how ignorant kids can be, Twilight rants at Marya, "My 'friendship studies' do NOT pay a lot of money being in the scientific community, and I have grants but I have had Celestia breathing down my neck about what I spend them on. And now because of all of that I have been too busy studying and writing so that I can send in letters faster to Celestia, but now I can't use spike to send the letters because spike has forgotten how to EVEN SEND THE LETTERS, so NOW I have to run over to Celestia to give her 30 letters that I wrote IN 10 DAYS!!! I USED TO ONLY HAVE TO WRITE ONE PER WEEK!!! MAIDS COST MONEY"
Marya, realizing how stressed Twilight was, she offered to help put books away. And Twilight, also realizing how overwhelmed she was getting decided to go to bed without warning. And so, still in search of a watch, Marya began putting books away in hopes of finding a watch. And so Applebloom, Sweety belle, and Scootaloo, decided that they would help because they thought Marya was just doing it to be helpful instead of for personal gain.
So eventually around 3 pm they had all of the books in order and had finally found a pocket watch. And it was, as the chapter title would imply, a golden pocket watch. And for some odd reason, Marya felt fairly odd about the fact that it was a golden watch, she didn't know why, it just made her cringe a bit. So after they did this, her friends went home, and Marya went back home with her golden pocket watch. And when she came home she found that her mother was making a dinner of vegetable stew.
So during this dinner of stew and sucking through straws, Marya's father asks where she got the watch from, while also slightly cringing at the sight of it as Marya did. She told him that she got it from Twilight.
And he asked,"How is she?"
Marya responded by saying,"She.... she is busy."
