Diamond In The Rough
...Smooth Finish
Previous ChapterThe entire search-party team regrouped in the Canterlot Gardens public park after searching all over town to tell one another of any possible clues they found that could lead them towards where Diamond ran off. Everyone was panting, breathless from the energy the expended looking for the girl they care for so much. When everyone finally caught their breath they shared the details of what they had found.
"Any luck?" Silver asked the group. The CMC's shook their heads in response.
"Nuthin'," Apple Bloom answered for them. Silver looked to the two sisters who were still panting slightly.
"And you?" Silver inquired, skipping any formalities. Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna both shook their heads sullenly in unison as well. Silver began to feel dread creep into her head as she glanced at Mister Rich.
"What about you, Mister Rich?"
Filthy Rich opened and closed his mouth several times, trying to form the words that were to difficult to say. In the end, he admitted defeat and drooped his head to stare at the ground.
"No..." He muttered sadly.
Silver's dread turned into full on panic as she looked at the last person in the search group, Coach Spitfire, and asked the question that everyone was expecting.
"Please, Coach, anything?" Silver asked as her tears began to well.
Coach Spitfire breathed deeply and reached into her back pocket.
"Well, I did find this..." She said, producing a little piece of yellow cloth. Silver anxiously snatched it up and examined the fabric. She recognized this shade of yellow and type of fabric anywhere. It was a piece of Diamond's jacket.
"Where did you find this?" Silver asked frantically.
"I found it hanging on the gate leading into Canterlot Cemetery just a mile or so down that way," Spitfire responded, pointing to an empty street on the other side of the park. "I figured it just got caught and tore when she ran past it because she was too close, so I kept going, but I didn't find her."
"I think we have a clue as to where she might possibly be," Celestia announced.
"But tha' doesn't make no sense," Apple Bloom spoke up, gaining everyone's attention, "Why would she go t' th' cemetery?"
Immediately images flashed through Silver's head as she recalled the last thing Diamond said before she ran out the door.
"I need to be with her..."
Silver straightened up as the realization hit her like a runaway freight train.
"I know exactly where she's at." Silver Spoon announced at once and took off at a sprint into the darkness of night.
Everyone tried calling for her, but she was nearly out of sight within the moment. The group looked to one another with worried features, shrugged, and went after Silver. The dark was a dangerous place to be alone in.
In the pitch black of Canterlot Cemetery tombstones stood everywhere, alerting those who entered that this was the resting place of the dead, and that they should be respectful upon entering. But at one stone in particular sitting atop a hill above the rest was a hunched figure looming over one of the graves. The figure sobbed and weeped in despair above the fresh mound of dirt, a few grass sprouts poking through the soil, with memorabilia and flowers scattered about. The figure was Diamond Tiara, whom had come to be with her mother in her moment of weakness. But her mother could not talk however. She could only listen.
"Why? W-W-Why did you have t-to go?" Diamond whimpered through her hands. She lowered them after wiping away a few tears with the palm of her hand, which were quickly replaced, and gazed upon the grave stone.
***Here lies Diamond Crown
1978-2014***
"Beloved mother and wife with a heart of pure gold"
Diamond reread the words over and over again, hoping that somehow chanting them enough times in her head would bring back her mother and they could live as a happy family again. She knew better than to think such silly thoughts though. She read the engraved words on the stone once more and began to cry again, unaware to the shadow slowly creeping up behind her.
Silver Spoon approached the vulnerable Diamond Tiara with caution so as to not frighten her away with any foreign noises. The rest of the search party had remained behind at the cemetery gates because this was something that she "had to do alone". Silver winced as she heard a sniffle from Diamond, now only a few feet behind her.
Hearing her cry is the worst pain I could ever feel, Silver Spoon thought, it is like a spike that was dipped in acid is being twisted inside my heart whenever I hear that sound.
Silver Spoon continued her advance until she was directly behind Diamond, who was still unaware as to Silver's presence.
Silver Spoon oh so carefully knelt down, making sure to keep any noise she made to a minimum, and made ready to comfort Diamond. In the blink of an eye, Silver wrapped her arms around Diamond, a bit roughly at that, and pulled the weeping girl to her chest.
To Silver's amazement, Diamond didn't scream bloody murder from the sudden embrace. She did, however, let out a quick yelp before realizing who it was and settled on silently sulking as her lover nestled into the back of her head.
Silver was crying now as well as she kissed the back of Diamond's neck and head, nuzzling her with a sweet word tossed out every now and then. After their loving reunion concluded, Silver rested her chin next Diamond's ear and squeezed her tighter.
"Oh Diamond, what were you thinking!? Please don't ever scare me like that again. It's dangerous outside at night. Something awful could have happened to you and the thought alone scares me silly," Silver whispered into her love's ear, twisting Diamond's head to kiss her cheek afterwards. Diamond sniffled and looked back at her gray lover.
"So what if something happened to me? I would've deserved it. After everything I have done in my life, I deserve to have much and more bad things happen to me," Diamond replied.
Silver's grip on Diamond tightened.
"No. Don't say that Diamond! Your mother wouldn't have wante-"
"And what do you know what my mother would have wanted!" Diamond shouted. Silver reeled back a bit, caught off guard by the sudden outburst. Diamond realized what she had done and mentally kicked herself for it. "I'm sorry... You didn't deserve that," she whispered, turning away from her love with a sniffle. Silver wasn't going to have that though and forcefully turned her around, kissing her full on the lips.
Diamond's eyes became pinpricks as she gasped slightly, but soon melted into the heated lip-lock and allowed her eyes to flutter close. After a moment, Silver broke the kiss and looked her love directly in her beautiful eyes.
"You're right," Silver began, "I don't know what your mother would have wanted. I can only hope to know what she would have wanted, and it ISN'T this..."
Silver looked past Diamond at the grave in front of her. After reading the words that were carved into the granite stone she sighed and looked back to Diamond, at her curious and frightened face.
"I think it is about time I told you what happened that night when your mother came to visit you in your dream."
This piqued Diamond's interest as she leaned in closer to listen better. Silver took a deep breath and looked back to her lover.
"When your mother visited you in your dream, well, you weren't the ONLY one she visited..."

Silver sat on a checkerboard-patterned cloth of red and white in an ever-expanding field of multi-colored flowers. She breathed deeply of the soft breeze and let it out as a satisfied sigh, her mind at ease in peaceful serenity. That was, until Silver felt an unknown, but familiar, presence beside her.
"Hello Silver Spoon," a voice as soft as silk said to her. Silver's eyes shot open and turned her head to find the voice's owner. Silver smiled brightly as she saw who it is.
"Mrs. Crown!!" Silver squealed as she gave Diamond Crown a long hug. "It's... I can't believe... Hi!!" Silver sputtered out.
"Hello Silver. I can't stay long because my time is limited here, but first and foremost I must thank you."
"For what? We've all missed you so much Mrs. Crown, Diamond especially."
"Please Silver, we're past formalities, just call me Crown if you like. And for taking care of my precious Gemstone. I have seen into your heart, Silver Spoon, and the love you have for my little girl gives me so much peace and makes me so very happy!"
"Of course! I love her more than anything in the world, even life itself. And Gemstone?" Silver asked with an upraised eyebrow.
"It was what I used to call Diamond before... you know...," Silver nodded her head in understanding so as to avoid making Diamond Crown speak on the subject of her own death. Diamond Crown exhaled and put on a stern expression. "Anyways, back to what I needed to talk to you about."
Silver scooted closer to Crown and listened intently to what she had to say.
"Silver, there will come a time in the near future where I will be unable to visit Diamond Tiara in her dreams after a point, that is where I will need your help." Silver felt dread begin to well in her stomach, but she nodded and continued listening nonetheless. "She will feel distraught, abandoned. And I cannot say when it will happen, but there will be a time when she 'snaps' and does something incredibly dangerous that only you will be able to stop her from doing, and this is what I want you to tell her when that time comes." Crown beckoned Silver closer, who hesitantly obliged, and whispered, "I will always be with her even if it doesn't seem like I am. I will always be right there beside her, within her heart, every step of the way. She must never forget that I will always love her no matter what and that she is not alone in this world. I love her dearly until the end of time, as you do. Please don't give up on her. Please don't ever leave her side. Please... don't break her heart..."
Silver looked to Diamond Crown with tear-stained cheeks. "Never," she whispered to her.
That one simple word made Diamond Crown produce a smile that seemed to brighten the entire plain of existence they were in. Silver saw that she started to fade away before her with a beautiful aural glow surrounding her. Before she completely vanished, Silver heard one final thing be whispered into her ear with the most grateful tone she ever heard.
"Thank you..."
Silver's perfect dreamscape began to fall apart as she came to wakefulness.

Diamond gaped as Silver finished her story. It was expected for the story to make her feel better, but she only felt worse. How could she have been so selfish? All this time Silver was living with the knowledge that she was going to do something stupid and dangerous. The dread building up and worsening with every passing day. Diamond didn't know what to say. Diamond didn't know what to do. The only thing she thought to do was cry and apologize over and over again for being so dumb, but Silver somehow read her thoughts and made to prevent it.
Silver grabbed Diamond by her shoulders and hauled the girl in for another kiss. After they were connected, Silver wrapped one arm around Diamond's back and another behind her head to assure that Diamond couldn't escape, not that she wanted to. Silver pressed deeper and deeper into the kiss while rubbing her love's back, comforting her and showing her true emotions in every possible way. It was strange though. This kiss was different than the rest. It sent Diamond's heart into a frenzy, beating right against Silver's, and made her feel as if everything was going to be okay. She thought she heard something whisper in her hear, but just passed it off as the wind.
A few minutes later, Silver broke them apart with a string of saliva connecting their lips. Silver brushed her thumb against Diamond's cheek and smiled softly at her.
"Come on gorgeous, let's go home!" For the first time in weeks, Silver saw a sight that made her heart flutter madly inside her chest: Diamond smiled. Silver held out her hand, which Diamond graciously took, and helped the girl to her feet. They hugged one another tightly and they both paid respect to Diamond's mom's grave, saying a silent prayer and thank you, then walked back to the entrance of the graveyard with their arms wrapped around one another, unable to take their eyes off the other even for a second.
Silver kissed Diamond's cheek and whispered, "You're so beautiful Diamond!"
Diamond smiled and one-upped her with a deep, passionate smooch on Silver's mouth and replied, "So are you!"
The two girls beamed happily inside and out as they snuggled even closer as they made their way towards the gate of the cemetery. Diamond smiled even brighter as she saw her friends and family waiting for her. All of them had abandoned the party and came out into the dangerous time of night to search for her. If that didn't prove they loved her, then Diamond didn't know what did.
Diamond giggled as she felt a strange tingling sensation on her arm and just figured it was Silver tickling her, which she returned by giving Silver a few pecks along her neck.
They finally reached the gate and were greeted by the waiting and worried members of the search party. They all surrounded Diamond and Silver and told her how sick with worry they were, to which Diamond replied with more "sorries" than could be counted and tears of joy that streamed down her face. The entire group wrapped their arms around Diamond and Silver, giving them one big group hug. Then they all broke apart and began the trek back towards Filthy Rich's house.
Diamond clinged to her father, kissing his cheek and apologizing over and over again only for him to say that it was okay and that he was glad she wasn't hurt. This only made Diamond hug him tighter and begin the process over again. It eventually reached the point where Filthy Rich couldn't breathe. Thankfully, they were home by then.
The entire house was empty, all the guests having vacated the area since the birthday girl ran out. The rest of the search party members all said their goodbyes as Filthy Rich, Diamond Tiara, and Silver Spoon walked into the messy house that was caused by a few inconsiderate and unnamed party guests. Diamond and Silver said goodnight to Filthy Rich, all agreeing to clean the house tomorrow together, and went upstairs to Diamond's room.
Silver pulled her inside and closed the door behind them. She turned on the stereo at a low volume and sashayed up to Diamond. She took her pink lover by the hands and began to dance a slow dance with her, their bodies pressed close enough together to become one.
"Woah Silver! What's the occasion?" Diamond asked sarcastically. Silver only smirked at her question.
"I believe someone owes me a special birthday dance. A certain beautiful girl with the most alluring eyes in existence to be exact. You wouldn't happen to know who that is, do you?" It was Diamond's turn to smirk.
"Yes, but Silver..." Diamond leaned in close to Silver's ear, "You can't dance with yourself," she whispered.
Silver knew Diamond had won this round, so her reward was a deep kiss on the lips and a gentle face caress. As they continued to dance, Silver grabbed Diamond's left hand and lifted it to her mouth to give it a few smooches as well. Silver gasped slightly when Diamond's sleeve rolled down a bit. Diamond had removed her bandages, but it was the OTHER thing that wasn't there that shocked her.
Her arm was completely healed. Not a single cut or burn to be accounted for. Silver smiled as bright as the sun as her heart swelled with love and happiness for Diamond. Rather than tell her the news, she instead opted to pulling her in for another deep and heated kiss, but Silver had not intentions of pulling away, and Diamond wasn't going to object even if she wanted to.
The two girls danced the night away, kissing each other nonstop and dancing to the sound of the music, but to the RHYTHM of their hearts. Diamond finally had the one thing she was searching for her entire life: happiness, and she could cherish it now that she knew she had earned it. And Silver held on to the single most important thing in her life that has surely changed it forever. She danced with it, kissed it, made it feel immense pleasures while trying at all costs to avoid hurting it.
Silver cherished it as well as she danced the rest of her life with her life's love and held on tightly to her beautiful, special Diamond In The Rough.
