Too Shy to be Together, too Scared to be Alone.

The afternoon sun shone its warm rays against Fluttershy’s back as she walked towards Sugarcube Corner. The smile on her lips worked in conjunction with the bounce in her step to show just how happy she was. Fluttershy always loved going to Pinkie Pie’s parties, in fact she loved being around Pinkie Pie all the time, but things had a tendency to get awkward when it was just the two of them.
Fluttershy had a crush on the pink party pony. Pinkie Pie was always so happy, so disconnected from the world and all it’s troubles. Fluttershy was always a bit jealous of her. Thinking about being alone with Pinkie Pie sent a shiver down her spine. What if Pinkie Pie finds out that I have a crush on her? How would she react? I’ve never even seen Pinkie being romantic with anypony, does she like stallions, mares, cake? Maybe she doesn’t like romance at all, and my feelings for her would make her feel uncomfortable. Maybe I shouldn’t go to tonight’s party after all.
The thought of seeing Pinkie Pie asking where Fluttershy was, and getting upset over missing one of her friends popped into Fluttershy’s mind. I have to go to the party for Pinkie’s sake. Besides her parties are always so much fun, and the others will help keep me distracted from my feelings.
Fluttershy was nearly at Sugarcube Corner now. Her smile widened. I’ll be there soon.

Pinkie’s Pie’s loft at the top of Sugarcube Corner was always so spacious and full of color. For today’s party Pinkie had set out a bowl of punch, and cupcakes of every variety. There were all kinds of things up here for a party, except for the most important part; the guests.
Pinkie Pie sat on her bed and grinned widely at Fluttershy, “Fluttershy, I knew you would be here. Tonight is going to be the most hardcore party evah.”
Fluttershy looked around. She could already feel goose-bumps rising on her skin. Where is everypony? It’s going to be weird if it’s just me and Pinkie Pie.
Fluttershy asked timidly, “Um, when are the others arriving?”
Pinkie Pie jumped off the bed and said, “Oh, well Twilight is in Canterlot tonight, Rarity is working on a deadline, Applejack is helping her sister with homework, and Rainbow Dash is sleeping, I guess she worked herself too hard or something.”
“Well she did just get done with some more Wonderbolts training… and it’s usually pretty rough on her,” Fluttershy agreed.
“So anyway, tonight it’s a party comprised of just me, and you,” Pinkie Pie said excitedly.
Fluttershy’s ears folded as she realized that this meant, that she had an entire night alone, with her crush. An entire night of trying to not let Pinkie Pie find out about how she feels. Fluttershy would’ve bolted at the mere thought, but couldn’t say no, it would hurt Pinkie’s feelings. Fluttershy lowered her head in defeat, “Okay… but I’m not sure that you can have a party with only two ponies.”
Pinkie Pie rolled her eyes. “Pfft, we can have a party if we want. There are no rules at Pinkie’s parties. And since there is two of us we can still dance, and sing, and eat, and drink, and dance.”
Fluttershy liked doing those things when in a group, but if it was just going to be the two of them she had a different idea. “Um, Pinkie, I-I-I know that you are the um, host and all, but could we do something a little more… calm. Maybe it will be more fun?”
Pinkie was quiet for a second as she put a hoof to her chin. “Okay, we can play board games. I have lots of them, oh and I have cards. Tonight will be a fillies night for just the two of us.” Pinkie finished by giving Fluttershy a giant smile. Fluttershy couldn’t help but smile back at the happy pony.

A few hours later the sun was nearly gone from the sky. Fluttershy and Pinkie had played Go Fish, and Fluttershy lost. Then they played Checkers, and Fluttershy lost. Finally they played Chess, and Fluttershy got confused, and lost again. Now Pinkie Pie was setting up a game of Tic Tac Toe.
I really don’t want to criticize Pinkie, but I’m not having fun anymore.
“Um, Pinkie Pie, may I say something,” Fluttershy asked nervously.
Pinkie Pie was still smiling though. “Oh of course, Fluttershy. You can tell me anything you want.”
“Pinkie Pie… I know you tried your best, and I really, really, really appreciate that, but I don’t think that this is working. I think it would be best if I just go home,” Fluttershy admitted lamely.
Pinkie Pie froze for a long moment, simply staring at Fluttershy. Pinkie Pie finally smiled and said, “Oh… okay. I can fix this. What do you want to do, anything at all. Please tell me, and I will make this the most entertaining party ever.”
“I’m sorry, but I just don’t think that there is anything else we can do I’ll just let myself out,” Fluttershy said. She stood up slowly and stopped.
Pinkie’s mane deflated almost instantly. Pinkie’s eyes were glossy and wet, and so full of pain. Fluttershy sat down instantly and tried to smile for Pinkie Pie’s sake. Just great Fluttershy, you had to go and hurt Pinkie’s feelings.
Pinkie Pie smiled back at Fluttershy, but her eyes were still so full of pain.
Her eyes, they look so hurt. Why does she look so hurt?
Pinkie Pie bit her lip before begging in a quiet voice, “please don’t leave me alone.”
Fluttershy’s eyes widened. She’s not just hurt, she’s lonely. Like me…
Fluttershy made sure to use a gentle voice as she said, “I won’t leave, but if you need anypony to talk to, I’ll listen. I’m really good at listening.”
Pinkie Pie wiped her foreleg across her eyes trying to wipe away the tears as they began pooling up in the corners of her eyes. “I hate being alone… I… when nopony wanted to come to my party today I was sure that you would bail on me too. When you showed up I was so excited because it meant that I wouldn’t have to be alone. I’m sorry if I haven’t been very much fun tonight but, but I, I just hate being alone so much.”
A few tears escaped and ran their course down Pinkie’s face. With the tip of her wing, Fluttershy wiped away the tears. “You aren’t the only one who feels that way.”
Pinkie Pie closed her eyes, and cringed. Her voice cracked as she said, “I screwed up the party, and I ruined it for you. I bet you think I’m stupid, and ugly, and I bet you hate me now. I’m so sorry.”
“I don’t think any of those things Pinkie, in fact I feel the exact opposite.”
Pinkie Pie opened her wet eyes. “What, like you think I’m actually smart, and pretty, and you’re in love with me or something?”
Fluttershy’s ears folded back and she felt terror rising in her heart. Her mouth worked before her brain as she began asking, “How did you-“ she cut herself off, but it was too late.
Pinkie’s eyes grew wide. “You, you’re actually in love with me? With me?”
Fluttershy couldn’t meet Pinkie’s eyes, but she nodded in affirmation. I’m surprised that she’s not angry with me. I thought for sure that she would be so upset. After all, isn’t this a breach of trust or something?
Pinkie Pie was smiling. “So you don’t think I’m too weird? Or that I act too much like a child?”
Fluttershy shook her head. “Pinkie, you’re always trying to make me smile. Nopony used to care if I smiled or not, at least they didn’t care if my smile was real or not.”
Pinkie Pie sniffled. “Fluttershy, will you be my special somepony?”
Fluttershy looked up at Pinkie’s eyes and saw Pinkie’s bright blue eyes staring right back at her. She could only stare into Pinkie’s eyes for what seemed like an eternity, Pinkie’s eyes were wet from crying, but there was a warm, inviting look in them.
Finally Pinkie’s question hit her. “You want me to be your what?”
“Special somepony,” Pinkie said with a giggle.
Fluttershy looked down at herself, and then back up to Pinkie. “I-I’ve wanted to be your special somepony for so long now. I love you.”
Pinkie Pie grinned and leaned in towards Fluttershy. Pinkie Pie’s muzzle touched Fluttershy’s. Pinkie’s hot breath fell on Fluttershy’s lips, and caressed her neck for a long silent moment. “I love you too.” Without warning Pinkie pressed her lips against Fluttershy’s and a fire raced across Fluttershy’s entire face.
Fluttershy’s heart raced, and her face burned. Fluttershy lost control of herself and kissed Pinkie Pie back, and then kissed her again. Fluttershy then kissed Pinkie a third time, but this time she took it a step further and slipped her tongue into the pink ponies mouth. Fluttershy’s tongue fought with Pinkie’s. Pinkie’s mouth had the slight taste of cake frosting.
When Fluttershy finally pulled back a trail of saliva came back with her. I can’t believe we just did that. That was wonderful.
Pinkie eyes were stuck in a daze and a goofy smile was plastered on her lips. “Fluttershy… I’ve never kissed a pony before.”
Fluttershy felt her jaw hit the floor. “What?”
Pinkie Pie looked away, her face turned a deep shade of red. “I have two secrets, secrets that I have never told anypony. One is that I always feel so alone and sad… unless I’m with my friends. The other one is that, nopony has ever been physically interested in me…”
Pinkie Pie sat up straight and rubbed her belly before saying, “Everypony thinks I’m just a child, or that I’m a little tubby… or both.”
Fluttershy reached out with a hoof and began rubbing Pinkie’s soft belly. “Well I love the way my little round pony looks. I think you are the cutest thing ever.” Pinkie Pie giggled a little.
Fluttershy gave a little sigh. I suppose I should tell her something about myself too.
“And you aren’t the only one to feel alone. I feel that way a lot, that’s one reason why I have so many animals in my house; they make me feel less lonely,” Fluttershy explained.
“Wow, and here I just thought it was because you loved animals. I never thought that anypony else would understand how I felt.”
Fluttershy stood up. “I understand Pinkie, I really do, and now we don’t have to be lonely ever again, because we have each other.”
Pinkie Pie smiled and asked, “So do you still want to go home. I know that this party was kinda boring.”
Fluttershy shook her head. “I’d really like to stay here tonight if that’s okay?”
Pinkie’s eyes lit up and she said excitedly, “Really! Of course you can stay, we can continue playing games if you want, or-“
Without a word Fluttershy put a hoof to Pinkie’s lips. Gently Fluttershy pushed Pinkie Pie onto her back, and snuggled up to Pinkie’s side. Pinkie’s body was so warm, and soft, Fluttershy loved how cuddly she was. With her hooves wrapped around Pinkie’s waist Fluttershy moved her lips right next to Pinkie’s ear and whispered, “Can we just cuddle for a while?”
Pinkie Pie smiled and nodded. They spent the rest of that night simply cuddling one another, and nothing in the world could ruin this night for them. Now that they were officially together, Fluttershy couldn’t be made more happy.
