Equestria is a dying wasteland, with few ponies remaining. Most ponies escaped to another country, thriving and vibrant, some died, and very few stayed in Equestria to save it. These few included Princess Twilight Sparkle, five of her friends, Sunset Shimmer, and about ten others. Twilight Sparkle hears about the mysterious and lost elements that she and friends had used to save Equestria many times before. They, along with some help from Sunset Shimmer, search for the elements that could send Equestria back to its thriving state. But when a filly is found, hopeless and in pain, the chase for the elements speeds up, for only the elements can save the filly from death.

Chapter One- The Best News in Years

Equestria is a dying wasteland.

No longer thriving, vibrant colorful...

Our country lives in a state of death that nopony can thwart.

I should know, because I lived over one hundred years ago.

I'm Princess Twilight Sparkle, an immortal. I cast a spell on my five friends to make them immortal as well, against their wishes. But somehow, I knew what would take place in the future, and I knew I would desperately need their help. Now, they see that. And now, they want to help. I wish I had known how to help when I saw visions of the future. It never did say in any way what I could do, but that I would save history. And, of course, the lives of millions. My friends are on the verge of giving up, but I keep convincing them to believe in a future where death only happens naturally.

Pinkie Pie, a once laughing, colorful soul, no longer laughs but cries, no longer eats cupcakes but squares of yucky emergency food, no longer throws parties but hides in abandoned households. She doesn't believe in smiles, laughs or hope anymore. I tell her to have faith in what the future may bring, but she shakes off my advice like a dog shakes off water. She doesn't believe anymore.

Rainbow Dash, a rainbow-colored, hyper, fast-flying menace of speed, has lost her rainbow-based colors. She isn't hyper but lazy and grouchy, and she barely talks to me anymore for bringing her to this universe. Someday soon she'll know why I brought her here, why I needed her help too.

Rarity, a fashionista with style, no longer designs or wears fashions of any sort. Her white coat has gone grey in not age but depression, and her hair droops like Pinkie Pie's, no longer curly or beautiful. She still wants to be the center of attention, but her voice is awfully groggy and she coughs a lot. Maybe it's the pollution, or maybe it's just the state of depression that our fair kingdom has fallen under. I am determined to bring her and the others back to light.

Fluttershy was always scared, shy, and a bit of a crybaby, but now more than ever. Any animals she ever had have died, and there are no more animals except for those we saved in underground bunkers. Soon even those will die, but in the safety of the bunkers, and Fluttershy's help in feeding and watering them, they are reproducing fast, and reproducing many. The animal race will live on for Fluttershy's sake, and the only joy she ever has anymore is the time she spends helping with the animals each day.

And finally, Applejack, a hardworking farm girl who's always determined, but that was in the past. She's no longer determined, she has no hope whatsoever, and she doesn't work hard. She doesn't have a reason to work hard, but still, she'd work hard in trying to save Equestria if she still believed. Which she doesn't.
