Danielle Vs First Date part one: Group Vs Hangover
The first part of this story will be narrative, It may not stay that way. For all who are wondering, This is Dani I take no credit for the picture.
It was about 10 in the morning in the Pearson residence. Danielle was staying in the guest room since her last vengance run involved her and her friends Chris and Elise. Much to her disdain the light from the sun woke her and the killer hangover from the “celebration” of last night’s success. “AGH!” Danielle screamed in agony then groaned from the headache said scream was causing. Yeah, Danielle was definitely not going to be screaming anytime soon.
Hearing Danielle’s cries of pain, someone walks in from the living room out of concern. Still attempting to nurse her headache, Danielle didn’t bother facing the door. Danielle could feel someone giving her a light message. “Chris, is that you? I don’t remember you being so good at this.” She heard a masculine chuckle in the room that definitely wasn’t Chris’. She started to get up but her action was halted.
“Take it easy, honey. You all had way too many to drive last night remember? And you are in no shape to just abruptly get up, you trying to puke your guts out or something?” The man helped Danielle raise her head and incline the rest of her body. He even went so far as to lessen the amount of light in the room. Danielle sighed in relief at that one. She took a good look at the man taking care of her. The man before her was light of skin for a black man and his hair was twisted and bleached white? No, with a second look she could tell he was a natural grey or was it silver? Either way that hair had no dye in it, silver roots were visible. For a second there, it looked like it was flowing in the wind. But there was no breeze.
Dani shook it off as her dealing with the hangover and got back to analysing the man. He was tall, taller than Chris even! He had a clean shave and was wearing black jeans and a red shirt with a black caduceus over the heart and the word lifesaver was circling around it in white print. This man looked good, really good. How did she know this guy again? Then it clicked.
“Thanks, Zedd right? haven’t seen you since the wedding? I see you’re still friends with Elise.” Zedd chuckled and nodded. He always found himself amused by Elise and Chris’ stories of their adventures with 'the little ball of rage' as she was described as most. From his perspective now and his memories of her in that dress at the wedding, she was pretty cute. It wasn’t just her form that Zedd found cute though. He couldn’t make a character judgement without having more contact. In fact none of Elise’s or Chris’ tales of caution were scaring him,they merely raised his intrigue in her. He wanted to meet her in the flesh and this was a good chance to learn more about her.
It’s sad that it took a BAC of over 0.20 to get him some face time with Dani. “ How are you doing Dani..erm Danielle. And before you say anything obvious like my ‘head hurts’ I mean is there anything I can get you like food.” Dani’s stomach picked that moment to growl and her face lit up a shade of crimson. “Yeah, breakfast in bed coming up. Just give me a few minutes to fix something up for you” Dani didn’t say much as Zedd headed for the kitchen, not like she could in her current state anyway.
Zedd returned to Dani’s bed with a tray containing breakfast. “Eggs over easy, turkey bacon, french toast and Lactose free milk. I’m a good cook and I swear there’s no poison in it.” Zedd took a piece of bacon and eat it to prove a point. “Chris and Elise have told me about how untrusting of a person you can be. If you need anything else give me a holler...give me your phone will you?” Dani gave Zedd her phone as requested and he placed his phone to hers and transferred contact information. He took another few seconds to edit his info on her phone and put the name Doctor Z under the name and handed the phone back to Dani with a smile on his face.
“Feel free to text me if you need anything today. I’m one doctor that doesn’t mind making house calls” Zedd said to Dani with a warm smile and a wink. For a second Dani thought he was flirting with her. She wrote off his friendliness as him being nice to a friend of a friend. She got to eating her food and uttered one word. “Delicious”
Not long after he had served Dani breakfast had Zedd received a text from both Chris and Elise. “Looks like Chris smelled the bacon. Good thing his head is pounding like crazy, or he might have eaten everything before Dani got a chance to eat.” Funnily enough, both texts had mentioned food and medicine. Zedd took to making food for Elise, he had long since prepared for Chris’ bottomless appetite. Elise's plate had scrambled eggs, sausage links, biscuits and gravy and a small bowl of grits with some orange juice to drink. Chris’ order was Dani’s and Elise’s minus the lactose free milk. He’d spit that out in a heartbeat.
Zedd walked up to the master bedroom and knocked on the door. “The doc is in!” They groaned for him to come in, that was all he needed. Zedd placed three treys to their respective owners and smiled a shit eating grin.
Elise took the bait. “Okay goofball, why are you so happy?” Elise raised her eyebrow at her best friend in honest curiosity. Elise had begun making scenarios in her head and one of them absolutely terrified her. Oh god, please don’t tell me he got her number! Elise thought to herself. Zedd had been asking about Danielle since the wedding it was clear he was attracted to her. She and chris had told him stories of their (mis)adventures to blow off steam since he’s their only confidant. But telling him the full story only seemed to make him want to know her more.
Much to her disdain, Zedd showed her his phone with a text from ‘Dani’ saying “Thanks Doc, your bedside manner is amazing. I’m feeling a little better now but could you bring me a little more french toast?” Elise finally realized that she and her husband could no longer prevent the inevitable. But if this was gonna happen, it would happen in a way that wouldn’t result in crazed mayhem!
Chris swallowed a mouthful of his breakfast and gulped down a little orange juice. “Ok beautiful, but it’ll have to wait until this hangover fades. There’s gonna be a lot of screaming on her and most likely my part and I’d rather neither one of you were here for that. Dani sometimes makes me go to dark places when it comes to things she may not agree with but I know are possibly good for her.” Elise and Zedd were in agreement on Chris’ terms. "Wait where’s the medicine Zedd?”
Zedd smiled wickedly. “You’re eating it. My hangover remedy doesn’t taste very good on its own, so I put it in the pancakes and the french toast to mask the horrible taste. I could always make it taste better, but then I’d be curing hangovers all the damn time so fuck that noise.” The couple starred at Zedd in a look that could be either humor or horror that he had put medicine in the food and they had no clue.
“While talking to you two is always fun. I have a cutie to go feed, arrivederci.” Zedd said with a soft accent as he walked out of the room and into the kitchen to get Dani the french toast she had requested. It probably wouldn’t be a good idea to tell her that the medicine was in her food. Zedd was at the door to the guest room within two minutes. He opened the door and handed Dani her food with a smile that she returned.
“Bringing me more medicine doc?” Dani asked in a matter of fact tone. Zedd’s eyes went wide for a moment and he began to wonder how in the hell she knew. “It wasn’t that hard to tell. While you did a good job masking the flavor with your savory medley of herbs and spices, I noticed something was off. At first I thought it was poison then I remembered your were Elise and Chris’ friend. So that could only leave hangover medicine. Let me guess it taste like ass on it’s own right?” Zedd nodded with his smile. If he wasn’t interested in her before, he certainly was now! “Normally I’d be seriously pissed at something like this..”
“And you’d either put me on the list or begin plotting vengeance on me in some cruel yet awesome manner, right?”
Dani blinked in surprise at Zedd’s statement. How much did those two tell him about me anyway?! Dani thought to herself. She’d have to have a talk with those two later, she wasn’t about to chew them out while they were all fighting off a hangover. Zedd kept Dani company while she eat and the two made small talk with one another. Dani just had to ask, it was really bothering her. “You keep staring at me. Is there something on my face or something?”
Zed gave off a low chuckle and smiled vibrantly at Dani. "There is nothing on your face, you're just cute." Zedd said with confidence.
Dani blushed and shook her head and frantically waved her hands in the air. “No I’m not. I’ve come to grips with the fact that I’m not what most men consider attractive. I can count how many boyfriends I've had with one hand. And those relationships never lasted more than a few months, except one." Dani quickly suppressed the memory of her most painful breakup. Why’d that pink idiot have to be such a jerk at the end anyway? Dani shook the thought off as quickly as she could, now wasn’t the time for such a thing. Either way there’s no way this guy is serious...is there?
Zedd had a puzzled look on his face. How was he gonna get through to this girl that he was interested? Then it came to him and he thought himself a fool for not thinking about it sooner. “And to this man, he stands or falls to his knees. Then swarm around ye, a hive of honey bees.” Zedd said with a smirk.
Dani was once again taken by surprise, she wasn't expecting to be complemented by poetry. "You paraphrased a bit. But that was Maya Angelou, right?"
And there Zedd went again with that smirk. "You really shouldn't think that way about yourself. Based off what I've been told and have confirmed myself, you are a phenomenal woman." His smile became warmer.
Dani snorted. "Are you always this much of a dork?" She asked while still chuckling at Zedd's line. Zedd just kept smiling warmly at her. Dani paused for a moment. "Alright I have to work on my self-esteem issues, I get it! And you think I’m pretty for some reason. There's no need for you to pretend to want me. I know you’re trying to be nice, but now you’re just being cruel.” Tears started coming out of Dani’s eyes.
One look at Dani and all other thoughts were overcome by the urge to hug her. She was just so cute! He wiped the tears away with his hand and kissed her passionately. Dani's eyes shot wide open. When Zedd noticed the look on Dani's face, he backed away. Zedd carefully thought out what he was going to say to her.
Dani’s expression went from startled to understanding. “Okay, so you actually like me. There’s no way to fake a kiss like that. So where do we go from here?” The look of shock that was on her face earlier was now gone and in its place was one of curiosity.
Zedd scratched the back of his neck made a “heh” sound. “Truth be told, Chris was gonna set up a date between the two of us. But knowing Elise, she’d be watching our every move and that’s something I’d like to avoid.” Zedd told Dani in a soft tone, not even looking away from her.
As his eyes met hers, Dani noticed one more thing about Zedd. His eye’s were different colors. The left was blue while his right was green. She had never actually seen seen anyone with this rare eye situation. Zedd noticed her staring. “I have heterochromia and I’m a mix just in case you were wondering. I take after my mother, the only thing I got from my old man was my heterochromia and cooking skills.”
Zedd had gone off subject long enough, he wanted to do this himself in an environment Elise couldn’t control. Zedd sent Dani a text saying. “Danielle Pearson, will you go on a date with me?” Then Zedd remembered her current ailment. “It’s Monday, so how about Friday a show and dinner” Zedd texted her the address of their would be Dinner location.
Dani texted back “I’ll be there :)”
Zedd sent Dani another text . “It’s an Italian joint that hasn’t opened to the public yet. I happen to be the owner. I'll pick you up. The show part is a hip-hopera, so you’ll need a dress.” Zedd had a smile on his face.
Dani replied with “No problem, I’ve got just the thing. I’m sure you’ll love it.”
Zedd’s phone started ringing. ♫Do you believe in magic in a young girl's heart?♫ Zedd answered with haste. “Hey Trixie, is there something wrong babygirl? Ok. Uhuh. Abby’s doing what!? Look honey, I’ll be home as soon as I can. I love you too babygirl♥!” Dani rose an eyebrow at Zedd. “My daughter. She says her twin is terrorizing the sitter, again. Looks like I’ll have to give her a bonus...again!”
Dani almost didn’t believe him. The cynical voice in her head kept saying that he was using her to cheat, but she knew better. Chris had mentioned Trixie a few times. "Or did he say that Zedd had girlfriend named Trixie?" No Elise had mentioned that he was an amazing single father. “Or does he have a wife at home too and just needs something on the side?” She tried to fight the voice in her head but after years of being alone it wouldn’t go away.
“Sorry I’m late, inner good convention and all.” A pink-haired woman clad in a yellow robe appeared on Dani’s right shoulder. “He’s a wonderful man, your friends have told you that much. He’s a doting father in fact look at his phone he’s skyping her right now.”
Dani turned around to see a little girl in a blue hoodie with silver hair with a streak of blue (looked natural too) smiling through the TV. Dani took one look at her left shoulder and flicked Blue devil away. That is definitely his daughter she looks just like Zedd. Well except for the eye thing. Another girl in a purple jacket with red hair and silver hair and had Zedd’s eyes walked up to the screen. “Abbydon, you have some explaining to do young lady! What have you been doing to the babysitter this time?”
The redhead had a look of ‘I didn’t do anything wrong’ on her face. “All I did was tune her in to the fact that her man was a grade A scrub and she could do better. The boy treats her like dirt, and I’m sure he’s got some chick on the side!”
Dani just blinked in awe for a moment. Hold on, did she hear that right? Did Zedd name one of his daughters Abaddon? “Zedd, did I hear that right? Why would you name one of your girls after a demon?”
Zedd chuckled at Dani’s statement. If he had a dollar every time someone misheard her name he’d be rich. Oh wait, he already was! “You’re not the first person to mishear her name Danielle. You heard Abaddon, I said Abbydon. It’s short for her actual name that neither I nor her really care for, Abbagail-Donna. Her mother, (who is not in the picture) and I couldn’t decide between our mothers names so she merged them and Abbydon was named.” Zedd made a point in making sure that only Dani heard the part about the mother. The last thing he needed was the girls sipping on his kool-aid before it was his to drink.
Dani concieded since Zedd had made it clear why his daughter’s name was something like that. She was content in the fact that she’d be dating a good man and not a total asshole. Elise and Chris are usually good judges in character. Dani felt that he couldn’t be one of the mindless masses, especially if he was into her! She just hoped she had something that would drop his jaw.
As they continued to laugh and talk to one another. One thing was made clear, Zedd forgot to end the call! “So who’s this lovely lady, daddy?” Both girls asked in unison. Well fuck, this is gonna be a major pain! Zedd thought.
Zedd didn’t want to say it aloud since Elise might be listening. He pressed the message button and typed. “This is Danielle. She and I are going on a date this friday so please behave for me okay.”
It’s been awhile since he had a date and the girls knew it. Not even Abby would risk ruining something that could mean her daddy’s possible happiness. They had heard a little about Dani from their daddy and he seemed like he enjoyed talking about her. Both girls hoped it went well and typed. “Have fun and good luck:)!”
Zedd gave off a sigh, glad that his girls swore to be on their best behaviour. Either way he had a date with Dani! The day went by rather quickly and with the group now considerably less hungover, Zedd was free to go home to his daughters. Zedd walked to his deep black and polished purple Dart parked in the driveway and drove home with a smile on his face.
A few hours later at Casa Paradiso, Dani was rummaging through her wardrobe for a dress that could raise heads. As she continued her search she grew more frantic. Dani quickly came to a realization. "I've got nothing! I can't go to some event with a plain dress. What do I do?" Then it came to her. She pulled out her phone and hit a contact listed as Diva and dialled. She felt nervous as each tone rang. Was she still mad at her?
The ringing stopped while Dani was busy with her panic attack. “Dani, darling it’s been too long! Are you alright?” Diva asked with honest concern in her voice. “Danielle are you crying. Please tell me what’s wrong!” The diva asked in a motherly tone.
Dani stopped crying and cleared her throat. “Help me Rarity, you’re my only hope!”
