I finally made it home and I don’t know how long I wandered around trying to find my way home but I manged it in the end. I open the door and walked into the house, well inside I could Cobalt sitting on the couch just staring out the window.

“You don’t want me to live with you anymore, do you?” You can say I was shocked when I heard that.

“Where did that come from?”

“At the doughnut shop.”

Shit. “Look, I didn’t mean it, I saw something that made me angry and I said something that I should not have said. I’m sorry.”

“What did you see that made you so angry?”

I sat down in the chair and told him what happened with the stallions and the mare, he looked at with a confused expression.

“How could that made you so angry?”

I sighed. “Those three reminded me of myself when I was younger, a part of my past that I regret.”

“What did you do?”

“A lot of bad things. Look, I’m tired and not in the mood the talk about my past.” I got up from the chair. “You can stay here as long as you want I’m not kicking you out, I’ll talk to in the morning.”

With that said I walked up to the second floor and left him alone, well inside my I could see Fang sleeping beside my bed. I Didn’t care I just lay on the bed and fell asleep.

When I awoke the next morning I didn’t feel very good, I guess what happened yesterday affected me more than I thought. I went to the bathroom and did my thing, got dressed and walked down. When I arrived at first floor I looked over to couch and I could see Cobalt sleeping on it, I guess he was up late thinking.

I walked into the kitchen to make breakfast, I open the fridge to see what I could make and I notice that I was getting low on food. The only thing I could make was a salad, great. I took out what I needed and stared to chop up the vegetable. While I was doing that Cobalt walk into the kitchen.

“Hey.”

I looked over my shoulder and could see that his hair looked like a mess, his hair was standing in all direction. “Rough night?” He sat down in one of the chairs and nodded. “I know how you fell.”

“You had rough night to?” I nodded my head and went back to the salad. “I guess you didn’t sleep well.”

“You can say that, the event last night affected me more than I expected.”

“It was that bad?”

“Yep.”

“Wow, well I was up all night think. I was think it’s time for me to move out.”

I stopped what I was doing and turned around. “What do you mean ‘move out’? You can stay here as long as you won’t, you don’t have to go back on the street.”

“I wasn’t talking about going back on the street, I think about getting a job and buying a house. I can’t expect to live with you for ever.”

“I guess not, what kind of job? You told me that your talent is ice magic.”

“I don’t know alright but I was think maybe a guard.”

“A guard?” He nodded. “But you are an ex criminal, are you sure you can get a position as a guard.”

He stared to rub his neck and I didn’t like it. “I was think that you could ask king Sombra, since you two are friends.” I knew it.

I rubbed my forehead. “Look Cobalt, I can’t just go and ask Sombra to let you be a guard. It doesn’t work like that why don’t you ask James he is already a guard, I bet he can help you.”

“I haven’t thought about that, I’ll talk to him later today.”

I finished making the salad and after I have finished eating I went up to my room to change into my running clothes, when arrived back down stairs I saw Cobalt still eating.

“I’m going out for a run, I’ll be back in a couple hours.” He just waved a hand. “Come on Fang.” Frost Fang followed me out the door.

I had found a fine place to trained just outside the city in the forest, there was a river that was not frozen that I could use to swim in, up river of course. A couple of trees that I could work on my upper body, this place was just an outdoor gym. I stared my work out with some running, Frost was running beside me or in front of me. Sometimes I forget that he has four leg not two.

After I was done running I did some push up on one of the branches, then I hang myself with my legs and did some sit ups, after that I swam in the river of course I was just in my underpants. When I had done those exercises a couple of time I was exhausted, I collapsed down in the snow letting the cold snow cool me down.

“I’m in worst shape that I realised.” I looked over to where Fang was and he was sleeping. “Lazy wolf.” I made a snowball and threw it in his head. “Wake up.” The snowball didn’t affect him at all, he just opened his eyes and yawn. “Time to hade back.” We both got up and went back to the empire.

Usually I walk right home put this time I had to make a stop somewhere else, Shyla and Red house. When I arrived at their house I could see Red playing in the yard with his ball while Shyla was sitting on the stairs to the house watching Red I coughed to get their attention, I must have spooked them because both them jump in up in the air. Red was just happy to see while Shyla wouldn’t even look at me.

Red was the first to say something. “Mr Wolf.” Just groaned of that.

“Will you stop calling me that, I hate it.”

He looked down on the ground. “Sorry.” Great, now I made him sad.

I walked over to him and put hand on his shoulder. “I’s okay, just remember it next time. Look, can you go inside? Your mother and I need to talk.”

He just smiled and went inside the house leaving me and Shyla alone, we just stood there in silence trying to figure each other out. In the end I was the first one to speak.

“Feeling better than yesterday?” I asked her.

“Yes, I had good night sleep. I would like to apologise for what I did.”

“Why did you do it? Why did you kiss me?”

“I don’t know.” She sighed. “I guess I miss a stallion in my life, since my husband die a year ago it’s been me and Red. At first I thought maybe that you would be a father figure to Red but that change when I found out that you ate meat and that scared me.”

I guess I was a little shocked when she said that she wanted me to be a father figure to Red.

“Look Shyla, I’m honoured that you think that I could be a role model for Red but I done some…” I had trouble finding the right word. “You can say that I done some bad thing in my past and makes me not a very good role model for Red, I don’t think I’ll be a good role model for anyone.”

I wasn’t lying, before I ended up in the empire I killed for money and I enjoyed it. I had no felling for the people I had killed before until I met Fox, he showed me compassion for the people I had killed. You can say that he saved me.

“I think it best that we stay as friends.” I told her.

“I guess you’re right.”

Her ears dropt and I could hear disappointment in her voice, nice work asshole. Now Ii felt bad for what I said but I still think that we should be friends, what she need a new stallion in her life that is good with kids wait a minute.

“Shyla.” She looked at me “What if I introduce you to a friend of mine.”

“Do you mean a blind date?” I nodded. “I don’t know, what’s his name?”

“Flash Step.”

“Never heard of him, what does he do for a living?”

“He work as a blacksmith at the local smith in town, he has black fur and his mane and tail are blue and he usually wear a hat and, he great with kids.”

That last one got her attention I could see it. “Good with kids? Hmm. Alright, tell him to meet me at local coffee shop tomorrow at noon, then one that’s near the crystal heart I can never remember the name. Let’s see how it goes.”

“Great, I go and ask him right away.” Let’s just hope that Flash don’t kill me.

“You did what?” After I had talk to Shyla I went straight to Flash’s house and he took it better than I expected, he didn’t kill me.

“I set you up a date with Shyla.” I told him.

“I heard you the first time Wolf but why did you that and why did you that without asking?”

“I’m asking you now.” He slapped a hand on his face. “Look, I’m sorry that did okay but give her a chance. You told me once that you miss a mare in your life.”

He stared to rubbed his forehead. “You are right about that last part.” He sighted. “Did you tell her that I was blind?”

I shook my head. “No, that’s something between you two and not something I should say.”

After I said that it looked like he was thinking but it was not easy to see it, it did not take long for he came with answered.

“Alright, I give it a shoot but if she run away from me because I’m blind I’m blaming you.” He pointed a finger at me.

“Fair enough.”

He nodded. “Good, now go home and take a shower. I think the whole neighbourhood can smell you.”

I sniffed my armpits and I almost vomited up by the smell. “Your right, I better get home then.” I said good bye to Flash and then me and Frost went home.

When I arrived back I saw a few letter in my mailbox I took them and read a couple of them, just the usual, fixing roof, fixing fence and the worst part clogged pipes. I hate that part. I open the door and saw that Cobalt was on his way out.

“Going somewhere?” I asked him.

“I’m going over Ace, he told me that I could come and talk to him later today when he was here.”

“Ace was here?”

“Yeah, he and a mare was here to deliver a letter to you, I’ll get it.” He went over to the living room and came back with two letter. “Here.” He sniffed in the air. “You stink.

I just rolled my eye. “I know, you’re not the first one to say that. How was the mare?”

“She didn’t tell me her name but she had yellow fur and her tail and mane was red.”

Amethyst Crystal was here? Now that’s surprised me, I stared to read the letter Ace had delivered;

“Dear Wolf, it’s not an easy way to say this Captain Shield has disappeared.”

Me and Cobalt looked at each other and both us had worried face, I continued to read the letter;

“I know that I should had warned but I wanted so see if we could find him but our search has come up with nothing, we believed that he has fled to Equestria. What he intended to do there we don’t know.”

Sincerely King Sombra.

Were both silence trying to comprehend what stood in the letter, Cobalt was the first to say something.

“Great, a crazy captain has defected to Equestria. That’s just great.”

“Having second thoughts to become a guard?” I asked him.

“No, now I’m more determined than before. What about the second letter? The letter that mare drop off?”

I opened it and read it. “She asking me to come to a café, later to night.”

“Look’s somewolf has a date.” He said with tease in his voice.

“Ha ha, very funny. She is probably thanking me because I rescued her from those stallions.”

“If you say so, you should probably take a shower before you leave. I’m heading over to Ace, see you later.”

He walked out while I went up to the second floor to take a shower, after my shower I found some new clothes and got dress, I walked back to the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror was Cobalt right? Was this a date? I find out soon enough. When arrived down stairs I could see Fang sleeping in the living room. I guess he was tired and it looks like he knew he couldn’t come, that wolf scared me sometimes.

I finally arrived at the café; Crystal Magic. A weird name. It looked like normal café, tables and chairs outside. I didn’t see Amethyst outside that so I walked inside, the café was normal on the inside to, tables, chairs, a bar and stage. I was about to look for her but before I had the chance a waiter came up to me, a unicorn. He looked at me and it looked like he wanted to throw me out. He can try and he will fail.

“Can I help you?” He asked me.

“I’m meting someone here.”

“And who is that?”

“A mare.”

He raised his brow when I said that. “Surely you jest, why would a mare meting a ruffian like you.”

Okay, I’m going to snap that horn off his head and shove it up his ass but before I got to that part, a voice spoke behind me. “Wolf.” And there stood Amethyst.

“What’s going on?”

The waiter steed up. “Madam, do you know this beast?” Did he just call med a ‘beast?’ Okay, he’s dead.

“This ‘beast’ is my date.” I’m her date? “And if this is how you treat your customer then we just eat somewhere else.” I’m starting to like this mare, that’s for sure. She walked outside and I walked after her.

Well outside I could see Amethyst standing there with her arms crossed. “What an idiot.”

“Don’t worry about it, I’ve been called worse thing than that. So is this a date?”

After I said that her face became red as a tomato. “Well, yes and no. I want to thank you for saving me from those stallions by buying you dinner.” She sighed. “But I don’t think that is possible now.”

“What about that doughnut shop?” I suggested. “I think still open and I’m allowed there.”

She just nodded and with that we were off to the doughnut shop. The walked to the shop was in silence, I could see that Amethyst was still nervous, so I asked her a question.

“So Amethyst, what do you do for a living.” That got a smile on her face and I got to admit it was very cute.

“I’ll work as a nurse in the local hospital.”

“Hospital.” I shudder by thought of a hospital.

She tilted her head to the side. “Is something wrong?”

“Let’s just say I have been to a hospital once or twice and I’m not special found of them that’s all.”

“But a hospital is there to save life.” She became a little agitated.

“I know that but that doesn’t mean I have to like hospital, does it?”

She came down. “I guess so.”

Then the silence came again and it lasted until we arrived at shop, I open the door for her. “Thank you.” Well inside I could see there wasn’t that many customers but three looked very familiar, on one of the table sat the three stallions I saved from Amethyst and when they saw me they gathered the doughnuts they were eating and disappeared out the door.

“I guess they remember you.” Amethyst told me.

I just shrugged. “I have that effect on those I meet, most of the time.” I think that I scared her a little. “It depends on the ‘pony’ and their personality.” That made her relax, I guess I have to watch my mouth.

We went to a free table and being the gentleman I am I took out a chair so she could sit on, when she had taken her place I push the chair back. Then I took my own place. I’m not totalled ass, not all time. Then the waiter came up to us, it was same mare from yesterday. I could see that she was a little shocked to see us, she looked at Amethyst first.

“So, Amethyst. Are you on a date or something?” Amethyst cheeks became bright red. she then looked at me. “Never thought I see you on a date Wolf.” I don’t know if she tried to embarrass me but if she is she have to try harder than that.

“So if we are, got a problem with that?” I have to admit I was a little mad right now and I didn’t mean to raise my voice.

She raised her arms in defence. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to say something stupid I just didn’t think to see you two together. Do you two want the same as usual?” We both nodded. “I’ll be right back.”

Amethyst buried her head in her hands. “This is so embarrassing.” She looked at me. “How can you be so calm?”

I just shrugged my shoulder. “I don’t let it affect me.”

“I wish I had your confident, I become shy around ponies I know.”

“Why? They are just ponies you know, there nothing to get shy about.”

She looked down on the table. “I don’t know, I been like this since I was little.”

Okay, this got me to ask her a question. “What about me? You are not nervous around me.”

“I don’t know I guess you don’t scare me as much others.”

She looked back at me with a smile and I couldn’t help but smile back but I found her logic very wrong, I’m a wolf with a missing eye for fuck sake. She should be terrified of me not comfortable around me, I don’t understand this mare. Luckily the waitress came with our doughnuts.

“What do you do around in the empire? I’ve seen you walking house to house.” She asked me.

“I fix things.” She just looked confused. “If there a pony that need something fixed I I’m the wolf to do it.”

We ate our doughnuts in silence, I guess she was still a little nervous around me and I didn’t know what to talk about. I’m not very good at begin on a date myself, I have only been on one and that didn’t end well, hers a tip; when you are a wanted criminal don’t go on a date where cops eat. When we were finish the night stared to arrive so Amethyst suggested we should go thought the park.

When we arrived a park the moon was up so we sat on bench just to enjoy the moon and star, it was getting a little cold so Amethyst come a little closer to me and put her head on my shoulder so I raped and arm around her and put hand on her shoulder.

“Princess Luna has made the night very pretty tonight.”

Say what? “Did you just say that Luna ‘made’ the night pretty?” She nodded. “Are you saying that she can control the moon?”

“Yes, or so I have heard.”

“Have you ever seen her do that? You know, control the moon?” I asked her.

“Well, no. But my mom told me stories that Princess Celestia can control the sun and Princess Luna the moon.”

“I don’t know if I believe you or your mom on that part, even if she right or not. Where is your parents by the way?”

That was maybe not the right question, after I had asked her that she got up from the bench. She walked to the bond and looked down in it.

“They died a year ago when Celestia first invaded the empire.” Fuck, I stood up and walked over to her. “They were only going to the marked to by some food, I was at home reading when I heard scream outside our house. When I looked outside I could see soldiers from Equestria killing crystal ponies, I was terrified so I ran up to the second floor and barricade myself in my room.”

“I don’t know how long I was there but eventually I fell asleep, I was woken up by somepony knocking on my door. They said they were crystal guard but I wouldn’t believe them, I just sat there in a corner until somepony knock on the door again and this time it was king Sombra but I still wouldn’t believe them, then he told me that Celestia’s forces was gone. So I looked out the window and saw that he told me the truth, so I removed the things I used to barricade my door and outside stood King Sombra himself.”

“He told me that my parents were first to suffer the attack and that they died in the hospital in the morning, at first I wouldn’t believe him but then he showed me their bodies. I just stared at them and the worst part I couldn’t cry I want to cry so bad but no tears came out.”

Then she stared to cry and I didn’t know what to do so I did the first thing that came to mind, I gave her a hug. At first Ii thought she would push me away but she didn’t, she buried her head in my chest so I put my arms around her.

“It’s okay, let it all out.”

I tried my best to comfort her, I didn’t know if I made any progress but she stopped eventually.

“Thanks, I need that.” She whispered to me.

“Don’t mention it, you have been holding those tears in for a year.”

We stood there for a while so I offered to escort her home she held my hand and I didn’t mind, we walked the most part to her home in silence until she decided to speak.

“I’m sorry.”

“For what?” I answered.

“For ruined the date.”

“Don’t worry about it, it was WAY better than my first date.”

“What do you mean?”

I had to think carefully what to say. “Let just say me and my date went to a café we shouldn’t have.” She was about say something but I beat her to it. “I know you want to know but it is better not to know, trust me.”

“Oh, okay.” I could her the disappointed in her voice.

We finally arrived at her house. “Here we are, I had a great date. If you don’t count that last part.”

She looked down on the ground. “I’m sorry, again.”

I put hand on her shoulder and she looked at me. “I said don’t worry about it, if anyone should apologize it’s me.”

Now she was really confused. “You? But you didn’t do anything wrong, I was the one that started to cry.”

“That may be true but I was the one that mentioned your parents and for that I’m sorry.” I did what gentleman would do and that was bow.

She actually stared to laugh, now that was just weird. Then why did I find it cute? Sometimes I think there’s something wrong with me, at least she’s not crying so that’s good. I looked at her and she was smiling so I decided to ask her a question.

“Amethyst, why didn’t you fly away from those stallions I saved you from? You are a pegasus after all.”

She stared to rub her arm. “To be honest I’m not very good flyer, I actually afraid of heights.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, here we have a pegasus that has a fear of heights.

“Are you serious?” She nodded. “How can you be afraid of height? Flying is just wonderful feeling.” I looked up in the sky. “Just to fly up in the sky, to be free from everything, not too worried about everything, just to be free.”

Then she said “It sounds like you have done it before.”

“In a previous life.” I guess I still miss my life on Cornelia, if you take away all the bad stuff I have done. “Look, it staring to get late and I like to get home before it’s get too late. All thing consider I had great date today.”

“Me too, I hope we can have another date another day.”

“Me to.” I gave her a kiss on her check and her face became very red. “See you around.”

I don’t know how late it was before I arrived back home but I could see light in the windows so I assumed that Cobalt home, I open the front door and sitting on the couch was Cobalt reading a book.

“What are you reading.” I must have scared him because he felt right on the floor after I had said that and the book landed on his head.

“What the hay Wolf, are you trying to give me a heart attack?”

“Maybe, what are you reading?”

He got up and sat down on the couch again. “It’s the rule book for the crystal guard, Ace said I had to memorise it.” He answered.

“So he got you in the guard?”

“Not yet, he said I had to prove myself that I want to protect the empire in a few days.”

“Alright then, I'm goin to beed don’t stay up too late okay.”

He just waved his hand at me and I just rolled my eye, I walked up the stairs to the second floor. I open the door to my room and saw that Fang was asleep on the floor, I didn’t bother to take of my clothes I just lay down on my bed. I couldn’t help but smile of what happened today.
