Twilight Sparkle stood at her lab table, beakers filled with colored liquids and equipment neatly arranged on its surface. She held a small flask and an eyedropper with her magic, carefully dropping in some of the chemical.
She was distracted by a soft, almost inaudible whispering hum. She turned toward the hum and watched in surprise, then awe, at what seemed to be the appearance of a tiny rip in time and space, itself.
As she watched the tiny rip grew larger, became a circular hole. Or window? No! A door!
Fascinated, she stepped closer to it and looked through to see an odd, strangely two dimensional room that appeared to be devoid of depth like something she’d once seen as a young foal in a comic book.
Twilight’s jaw dropped as an equally strange and odd teenage girl seemed to materialize on the other side. She was yellow with equally yellow spiky blonde hair, had large eyes. She wore a simple red shift with matching shoes and a string of perfect, white pearls around her neck.
‘What an odd creature!’, Twilight thought, even more curious now. ‘Strange, it looks... Human... But I’ve never seen a human like that, before! What in Celestia’s name is this?’
As she watched the girl appeared to be trying to peer through the hole as though she couldn’t quite see what was on the other side. Just then, the oddly two dimensional girl shrugged, stepped through and froze when she saw Twilight.
The girl threw her hand up to her chest and gasped, astonished by what she now saw. They stared at each other until curiosity overcame their shock and surprise.
“What are you?!”, they both said at the same time. This made them laugh then relax a little.
“I’m... Um... Lisa Simpson”, said the odd girl as she looked around Twilight’s lab bewildered, “and, what’s this place? And why are you lavender and why do you have a unicorn horn and wings?”
“This is my lab, where I study science and magic”, said Twilight, equally bewildered, and I’m an alicorn.”
“Ah”, said Lisa, “but, magic? There’s no such thing as magic!”
Twilight stared at her for a moment. What? They didn’t have magic in their world? How could there be a world with no magic? Even when she’d been in a human form at Canterlot High in that other world she’d been to they still had magic!
“We have magic here”, said Twilight, “we use it every day.”
Lisa stared for a moment more, trying to comprehend. A world with magic? Real magic? This could be the realization of all her childhood fantasies!
Twilight blinked, surprised, then thought of a question that demanded to be asked.
“How did you get here?”
“Oh! I was doing a high school project in quantum trans-dimensional intersecting vortices for a science fair and, I guess, I accidentally opened the portal to... Here”, Lisa said, appearing to study Twilight, taking in every detail.
“What?”, asked Twilight, her brow furrowing in confusion.
“Oh... Science stuff”, shrugged Lisa with a dismissive wave of her hand as she began looking more intently around Twilight’s lab. A smile appeared on her face.
“Nice setup!”, she said, “I wish I had something like this! I had to make everything I’ve got out of old beer cans and rubber tubing.”
Twilight, seeing that this Lisa didn’t seem dangerous, took a few steps closer to her, began studying her as well.
“Odd”, she said, “you look human but you’re not like any other human I’ve ever seen, before.” They continued to study each other for a moment.
“Wait...”, said Lisa, surprised, “You’ve seen other humans? Where? When? How?”
“Long story”, said Twilight, “But it never occurred to me I’d have one materializing in my lab!”
“Well, I never thought I’d ever meet a purple winged unicorn!”, said Lisa, “Remarkable!”, then, “So, where am I?”
“Alicorn”, corrected Twilight gently, “And you’re in Equestria. So, what world are you from?”
Just then a rasping male voice shouted through the hole in time and space.
“Lisa! Can I use your sax-a-mo-phone? I’m playing golf in the back yard and I need it for the ninth hole!” It was Homer.
“No, dad!”, Lisa called back over her shoulder, obviously annoyed, “It’s an instrument! Not a toy! You can’t use it for that!”
“Pleeeeeaaaassse?”, whined Homer.
“No!”, Lisa called back more firmly this time.
“Fine!”, he pouted, “See if I ever take you to a... Mu-see-um... Again!” It was quickly followed by the sound of stomping feet and a door slamming.
“That’s your father?”, asked Twilight, astonished that this seeming genius girl could come out of anything so obviously stupid.
“Yeah, but he’s nice... Sometimes”, Lisa shrugged dismissively, then, “So, Equestria?”
“You didn’t say where you’re from”, said Twilight.
“Oh! Springfield”, said Lisa.
“Where’s that?”, asked Twilight.
“It’s in the state of...”
“Lisa! I need to use your sax-o-mo-phone!”, Homer shouted more insistently this time, “it’s the only thing big enough that I can putt the ball into!”
“No, dad!”, shouted a now angry Lisa back through the hole, “Go find a trash can! Use that, instead!”
“Ooh! Good idea!”, said a now happy homer as he stuck his head through the hole in time and space, then, “Ooh! A little purple horsie!”, he squealed, delighted, as he stepped through the hole before anyone could stop him.
To Lisa’s horror and Twilight’s shock and dismay, Homer threw his leg over Twilight, grabbed her mane and sat down on her!
“Ack!”, shouted poor twilight in a combination of shock and pain, “Get off me!”
“Giddy up little purple horsie!”, squealed Homer, as if thinking that Twilight could actually lift his four hundred plus pounds off the floor from her now prone position on the floor.
“Dad! No! Get off of her! You’ll kill her!”, shouted a now horrified Lisa as she grabbed Homer’s arm and pulled him from poor Twilight who was squashed under homer on the floor whimpering, her eyes tearing up from the pain.
“I just wanted to ride the purple little horsie!”, whined Homer.
“Get out of here, dad! Go play your golf or something!” Lisa shouted, as she turned him and pushed him back toward the hole in time and space.
“Fine! See if I ever buy you a little purple pony!”, he scowled over his shoulder as he was pushed, headlong and stumbling back through the hole.
Panicked, Lisa quickly squatted down next to Twilight.
“Are you okay?!”, she asked, deeply worried.
“Yeah, I think so”, gasped Twilight, “I don’t think he broke anything.”
“I am so sorry about that!”, moaned, Lisa, appalled, helping Twilight to stand.
“Forgive me, I don’t mean to be offensive”, said Twilight, rising to her hooves cautiously unsteady, a baffled expression on her face, “But is he as stupid as I think he is?!”
“Yes”, said Lisa, quietly mortified, “Again, I’m really sorry about that!”
“I still want to ride the little purple horsie!” pouted Homer, sticking his head through the hole again. A frightened and staring Twilight stumbling backwards away from him.
“Get out!”, screamed an angry Lisa, stepping toward him and raising her fist as though she would punch Homer.
“Homer!”, came a gravely female voice from somewhere, “Get down here! I need you to take out the trash!”, It was Marge Simpson.
Homer pouted. “Fine!”, he grumbled as he turned and walked away, “I still want to ride the little horsie.”
Lisa and Twilight sighed and visibly relaxed as they saw him disappear, followed by stomping footsteps receding into the distance a moment later.
“Hey, Lise! Where are you?” came her brother Bart’s voice through the hole. She could see he was poking around in her room.
“Aye, caramba!”, gasped Bart, sticking his head through the hole, now, “You... Like, ripped a new butt hole in the universe or something, didn’t you?”
“Get out of here, Bart! You don’t belong here!”, shouted Lisa, becoming furious now.
“Pfft! Yeah, like you do?”, snided Bart sarcastically as his eyes fell upon a now horrified Twilight, who was seriously considering pushing them both back through the hole and somehow nailing it shut!
Bart stepped through, began looking around. “Cool!”, he smiled.
“Get out! Get out! Get out! Get out!”, screamed Lisa furiously, her hands balled into fists.
“Jeez, don’t have a cow, sis!”, said Bart cooly as he walked over to a completely unnerved Twilight.
“Hi! I’m Bart Simpson!”, he smiled, holding his hand out to Twilight, who just stared at it finding herself wishing that these strange and frightening creatures would go away. What had she ever done to warrant her finding herself in such a horrifying predicament?
Bart’s smile disappeared as he stared for a moment at Twilight’s hooves, lowered his hand. His sarcastic smile returned.
“Don’t mind miss dorkmeister, here”, he said, “she has no sense of humor. I think she’s given herself brain damage from breathing the fumes from all the chemicals she plays with.”
Twilight took another step backward wishing for nothing more in that moment than a good, stout baseball bat.
Lisa, her face black with anger, grabbed Bart by the shoulders and violently threw him back through the hole, kicking him in the butt for good measure as he stumbled through.
“Aye caramba! Get off’a me! !”, shouted Bart, struggling as he fell back into Lisa’s room.
“Stay out of here, Bart! And stay out of my room, too!”, shouted Lisa through the hole.
“Pfft! I’ll go in your room any time I want! You can’t stop me, Lise!”, he grumbled as he walked out of her room.
Throwing her hand to her heart, Lisa rolled her eyes as she slumped against a wall, exasperated.
“Um, look... Maybe I should go?”, said a mortified and extremely embarrassed Lisa to Twilight a moment later.
Lisa stepped toward the hole, prepared to step through.
“Wait!”, shouted Twilight, her eyes pleading as she looked at Lisa, “Um... I know none of that was your fault. You seem like a nice person so you can stay if you like?”
“Really?”, Lisa asked, a faint smile of hope touching her lips, “even after all that you’d want me to stick around?”
“Like I said you seem like a nice person”, said Twilight, relaxing now, “so, yeah, if you want to stick around that’s cool but we better find a way to keep your dad and brother from coming back. That could end up being... Disastrous if they did.”
“Good idea!” smiled a now happy Lisa as she and Twilight began piling large, heavy objects in front of the hole to block it.
Sweating and gasping they slumped to the floor after they finished about ten minutes later. It looked like they had piled most of the contents of the lab and several large pieces of furniture, including what appeared to be a couch, in front of the hole. Hopefully it would keep Lisa’s brother and dad out.
“I think that’ll be enough”, panted Twilight to Lisa, at least I hope so.”
“Well, you never know with my dad”, panted Lisa, “He might try to get through with a fork lift or something. I wouldn’t put it past him!”
Twilight looked at Lisa slightly worried and wondered if asking her to stay was such a good idea after all? No, it was a good idea. It was clear that this Lisa was nothing like the others.
“So, what’s all this about... Magic?”, smiled Lisa curious.
“And what was that... Science... Stuff you were talking about?”, asked Twilight, intrigued.
They both started excitedly and enthusiastically at the same time then laughed.
‘Yes’, twilight thought, looking at her new friend, ‘asking her to stay could turn out to be a very good thing after all’
