//-------------------------------------------------------// The Elements of Disharmony -by ShadeTheNarwhal- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Anomaly //-------------------------------------------------------// Anomaly This is a story about 8 friends. All of which are very different, but their friendship will never be broken. Their friendship is so strong that they all forgave a certain pony's mistake. This pony was in fact a stallion. He had a grey coat and messy white hair. His crimson eyes were the exact same colour as his magic. And yes, he is a unicorn His cutie mark was a white gear, with a smaller and darker gear on the bottom right. That pony is known as Gear Grinder. That pony is also me. Yes. My name is Gear Grinder, a scientist who lives in Ponyville, formerly Vanhoover. As I have mentioned before, I made a terrible mistake. This mistake was caused by my curiosity. But that part of the story will not be in this chapter. This is how I came to be. So I was born in Vanhoover on the fourth of June. But not just me. I have a twin, named Steam Punk. He has a rust coloured coat with a blue mane and tail. His eyes are an aquamarine colour. We both grew up in a house obsessed with technology. Because of this, we got our cutie marks around three years old. Steam Punk's cutie mark is a beaker with green liquid in it. Oh, and of course, he is also a unicorn. Oh, did I mention my parents were rich? We lived in a mansion. It was awesome being there. Every week or so, I'd discover a room I've never found before. I haven't found all the rooms to this day. Every time I brought a new friend over, they always gasped and got a look of pure excitement on their face. But I'm pretty sure you didn't come here to hear me ramble about my father's mansion. Let me just get to some important stuff. At 17, I got a job at PAR Labs, which stands for Phenomena and Anomaly Research Laboratories. I was always obsessed with mysterious things, almost as much as science. Steam Punk wasn't as big as a fan, but he kinda liked it. As soon as I walked into the building, my jaw dropped. There was white, stainless steel... everything. The walls, floor and ceiling were stainless steel. The big tables were stainless steel. They somehow made transparent stainless steel to make the beakers. Speaking of, chemicals were in every single beaker and all of the chemicals were different colours. My eyes kinda hurt because of it. Everypony was wearing white lab coats, and some had goggles on. What was really amazing though, were the doors. Or rather, lack of. "You invented portals?!" I said to the pony giving me a tour. "How is that even possible? I've tried multiple times to create a rip through the non existent matter to another area so that I could teleport! All it did was disable the portal whenever I get near it!" The pony (who I could hardly see because of the protective scientific armour she was wearing) replied with "We didn't try to create wormholes, we just caused a chemical reaction in the skin separating the atoms and 'coded' the atoms to go to a set path and rearrange to its original state." "Woah. I never thought about that." I came home after a long day of scientific research at PAR Labs. Steam Punk was startled when I opened the door. "AAAAHHH!!! Oh, Gear, it's just you, ok... so, how'd it go?" He said. "It was awesome! I figured out how to make portals and I even solved the Manehattan Monster incident of 1986!" I replied with excitement. "Let me guess, aliens? A prank? The nargles?" Steam joked. "One of those. It was just two pranksters named the Flam Flim brothers or something." I explained. Working at PAR Labs was an amazing experience. I learned loads of things. I learned that creating laser beams are easy, all you do is gain enough solar energy, put it in a gun and fire it. Freeze rays were also a thing I learned about. Just cause a chemical reaction to turn the air of the selected location cold. I also solved a lot of anomalies. Many things were weird in Equestria, but sometimes there's something so weird magic can't explain it! As a co-worker of mine said "There are many things that magic can't explain, where science is the real magic!" Speaking of co-workers, every single one of them do their best to help each other when an anomaly is found. Anomalies... yeah... back then we started noticing something. 75% of all anomalies occurred in a small town south of here called Ponyville. I was very intrigued by this. It's not a coincidence that loads of strange occurrences happened in this town. As time went on, the mysteries kept on growing. We started noticing a trend when a god-like dragon thingy took over Equestria. I think I saw a statue of him on a school field trip, but it must be a coincidence. Then a blue unicorn named Trixie Lulamoon encased it in a glass dome, then another unicorn became an alicorn there and then an attack from a weird species of vines but that wasn't the strangest thing. Dimensional Travel. "How is this- but I- WHAT?!" I exclaimed when a co-worker named Doctor showed me the big tv screen with an arrow pointing at the centre of Ponyville. I was so focussed on this, I didn't notice another anomaly. But I'll get to that in a bit. "This is the 3rd time I've seen dimensional travel, and I've been alive for a long time..." He said. "But you're only the same age as I am, Doc." I said, confused. "Oh, um, uh, well uh, hey what's that?" He pointed at the screen which showed... what? "That's my house!" I yelled in fear. It showed the exact coordinates of Periodic's manor. This is something I should have mentioned earlier, but Periodic is my father's name. I rushed home. It then made sense. I never, ever found all the rooms. What awaited me when I found the source of the anomaly was greater than anything I could ever imagine. I did find something there, but it lead to events that made me find something better. Friends.
