So...these are my girlfriends.
It's so nice to have the family together for diner.
Previous ChapterNext ChapterMrs. Sweetstuff looked practically catatonic as her hands shakily tried to steady themselves to care a slice of meatloaf for the wild orange haired girl seated at the table. She looked at her and the one with purple pigtails, sitting at her table, eating her family diner, and most of all, had taken her little Johnny from her. "So Adagio, I...I take you and and your friends are very close to my my son yes?" She said cutting a diagonal section of the meatloaf sloppily and serving it to her chuckling nervously.
"I guess you could say that we are indeed...Very close Mrs. Sweetstuff." She said with a sly grin and giggle, which didn't help the already nerve racked mother at all. An hour ago as she poured out glasses of kool aid for everyone and carried it up stairs to John's bedroom she tried to think positives about Sonata. She tried to keep the possibility that she was a nice who had a well adjusted and healthy relationship with her son. She also tried to remind her self that her little boy wasn't a little boy anymore, and that this day would have to come someday. So you can only imagine her reaction when she saw a girl purple hair and aquamarine highlights in her pigtails and other with a wild, untamed mess of orange and spiky...accessories on in the same bedroom as her son.
When the initial fainting spell passed she worked up the nerve to bluntly ask as she got up off the living room couch and faced him, while She practically was in tears of shock and disbelief as the girls stood casually at the top of the stairs waving her pointer at them like something out of a low brow anime comedy and whined..."Would you mind explaining why there where three girls in your bedroom? "
"Actually I was in the bathroom to be honest," Chimed in Adagio with snide snark, but it was enough to make Mrs. sweetstuff practically faint again in disbelief. from misinterpreting her implications. when the shock did finally did die down the girls did try to make a better impression on her; Aria brought her a mug of red zinger tea, Adagio turned the AC on to cool her off and she even sat beside her and hoped to reason with her. The girl looked at the older woman doing her best to smile warmly and look less icy, a feat that was much easier now than it was back in..her time as a full blood siren.
"Hello Mrs. sweetstuff," she said softly and with a warm smile.
"Hi...I didn't get your name young lady...my...behavior kinda kept me from it." she said blushing hard and taking a gagging sip of her zinger.
"Adagio Dazzle Mrs. Sweetstuff, lead singer of "The Dazzlings" and charmed to meet you." Adagio said courteously and holding her hand out for the mother to shake, not a lady to lady type of greeting but hopefully it would patch things up between them.
"Dazzlings?" She asked her with a slight hint of confusion.
"Band we formed a while back...though it's mostly just for kicks now." She said sighing softly. Mrs. Sweetstuff smiled softly at her; she seemed to slowly be warming up to the girl, if not to the idea of her relationship with her son.
"I had a feeling you girls where the singing types." She said before laying her head back into a snooze.
Now the girls; Their boyfriend, and the parents where seated at the diner table table. The Dazzlings together on the long corner; John directly across from them, and the parents staring each other down at either end. The spread consisting of a steaming hot meatloaf, (notice the texture, and the pineapples giving it a festive touch) potatoes boiled to peak soft tenderness, and ears of corn drizzling with melting sides of imitation butter. Mrs. sweetstuff in spite of her anxiety opting to serve the guests, even if it did result in irregularity sliced portions and Sonata's plate piled with half the bowl of potatoes as Mrs. Sweetstuff tried to talk with them. "So...you girl's have any plans once school finishes?" She said with a forced smile piling spuds onto Sonata's plate.
"It's a tad early to think about that don't you think Darling?" Mr. Sweetstuff responded before any of the girl's could.
"Now Paul darling, you know it's never too early, remember how we where practically planing our wedding in sophomore year?" The comment was enough to make John gag on a slice of potato as he coughed and beat his chest and stomach until a bit of skin still steaming hot (ouch) landed on the white table cloth next to the vase. He sheepishly cleaned it up before replying.
"Mom...I think it's way early to be thinking about that." He said with a slight raspy tone due to his scorched trachea.
"Besides Mrs. Sweetstuff," Adagio chimed in taking a very unladylike like bite of smothered meatloaf. "Marriage is fine for those who want to pursue it, but I've always seen it as an archaic concept that's best left to the Luddites that still believe in it." Her word's cut the Mrs. like a knife, she was stunned by how what she blatantly said went against the perception she had for so long.
"Ms. Dazzle; while I strongly can't agree with you in that regard, I'll do my best to accept it." She said looking down and noticing that Sonata's plate was piled high with a mountain of almost all the boiled potatoes she made. "Sorry dearie, let me just uhhh fix those for you." She scooped them back up into the bowl as the blue girl looked at her, her cheeks trembling holding back laughter.
"Oh it's OK, I can do it myself." She said trying to scoop them back.
"No please It was my fault I insist."
"Mrs. Sweetstuff I'm a "big girl," I can put them back myself." Sonata responded growing annoyed at the borderline babying Mrs. Sweetstuff was doing to her.
"Now, now Sonata, I insist I mean...what's a mother to do when.."
"You aren't MY mother." she hissed back at her angrily. "So don't act like you are." The entire assemblage went silent.
