//-------------------------------------------------------// A New Mission -by NewKerbalEmpire- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Still Friends? //-------------------------------------------------------// Still Friends? Bon-Bon was confused. Normally, she would not have let herself become so confused, as that was one of the quickest ways to end up dead, but she hadn't been in a firefight since moving to Ponyville, aside from that Changeling fiasco, so she was kind of out of practice when it came to combat scenarios. Besides, the town wasn't exactly a war zone, so it was safe to let down her guard a bit. Besides, she didn't know why, but it seemed like Special Agent Sweetie Drops wasn't getting any more missions. But that wasn't why she was confused. She was confused about Lyra. They were supposed to meet at Sugarcube Corner for some pie every Thursday at two o'clock, but the green unicorn hadn't shown up anytime from two to six! Sweetie Drops would have worried that her best friend had abandoned her after she found out about her being a secret agent, as she had seemed rather upset, but they had apparently become best friends again at Cranky and Matilda's wedding. So why hadn't she come? In the midst of this wondering, she rounded a corner and a familiar building came into view. It didn't really look all that different than any of the other houses, but it still stood out to her because of it's importance to her current objective. She walked up to the front door and knocked five times. "Come in." said a familiar voice from inside. Bon-bon put her left forehoof against the door and began to push before she remembered that Lyra was the only pony in Equestria to use a doorknob that actually restricts access to the other side of the door when not turned. She had often maintained that this was actually the original purpose for doorknobs, and that it was because it was meant for use by those 'humans' she was so obsessed with, but Bon-bon, along with all the other ponies who ever met Lyra, just thought it was just another one of her many personality quirks. Bon-bon attempted to use her forehooves to turn the doorknob, but it didn't seem to work. She reasserted her position and had just began to make a second attempt at operating the peculiar contraption when it lit up with a light green glow and the door swung open, causing her to fall flat on her face. Upon seeing this, the green unicorn on the other side of the entranceway burst into laughter. When they had both gotten over Lyra's little prank, the two ponies went up the staircase and sat down in the living room and began to talk. "So, Lyra, why didn't you come to Sugarcube corner for our weekly get-together?" Bon-bon began. "Oh! Yeah! That. Sorry." Bon-bon was just beginning to suspect that she had become the victim of one of Twilight's bizarre spells that made her talk in single-word sentences when Lyra immediately debunked that theory. "I received a letter inquiring into my studies of anthropology, and was just finishing my response. Also, I needed some time to get over the whole 'Special Agent Sweetie Drops' thing. I still can't believe that you of all people are a spy! So, to sum things up, it's been one hell of a week." Bon-bon was quite surprised at how well Lyra was taking all this. She was even so calm that she had gone back to using those made-up words she attributed to humans. However, her friend's demeanor didn't fully answer the question she had come there to ask. "Well, it is my job to avoid acting suspicious." she said "A spy who can't do that isn't very good, even if they specialize in something far different than infiltration. But that's beside the point. The reason I came here is-wait, somepony else somewhere thinks humans are real?" Bon-bon saw Lyra's expression get defensive at those last few words, and instantly regretted saying them. With the whole spy thing, their relationship was already near the breaking point, and that last remark had obviously come across as an insult. "What do you mean? Of course! The letter is right here- oh wait, not it's not. I must've left it... no, not there. It should be-" Bon-bon spoke up. "Lyra, for the hundredth time, you really must stop obsessing over these fantastical creatures. I know up until now your anthropologic-or however you say it-antics have been mostly harmless, but making up a letter just so other ponies will take you seriously? You have to stop this, Lyra." Lyra suddenly froze, and the room became eerily silent except for her breathing, which gradually became louder and shakier for a good two minutes before she exploded. "Why!?!" the green unicorn suddenly shouted. "Why in Tartarus do you care about this!?! Is it because you're worried about me!?! Ha! It's clear now that you never actually cared about me! I'm just some dumb old civillian... no, wait, some dumb old liability who you had to befriend for your covert spy shit! I thought maybe if I acted normal we could still be friends, but apparently not! Apparently you genuinely believe I'm the crazy old hag who won't let go of childhood fairy tales that everyone makes me out to be! So DON'T YOU DARE suddenly pretend you haven't been waiting years to tell me how much you hate me!" Bon-bon was shocked. "Lyra, I--" "GET OUT!" "Wh-what?" "I said GET OUT, you backstabbing machine! I'm not going to let somepony who dared to fool me into believing that she was the one person who didn't think I was crazy and then call me a life-wasting psychopath stay in my house! Therefore, GET OUT!" And with those last two words, Lyra levitated Bon-bon up out of her chair and flung her directly through one of the windows. Bon-bon was stunned. Was this really what Lyra thought of her now? That she was some cold, unfeeling machine? That she never considered her a friend? That she loathed her and thought she was some sort of psycho? And more importantly, was she? She thought back to her days of hunting monsters back at the agency. Back in those days, she never would have imagined that an untrained civillian could possibly throw her through a second-story window without at least taking a few substantial cuts from her knife. Back in those days, she would have gladly caused such injuries to any civilian that dared attack her like that. And back in those days, she would have tracked down and murdered her attacker. But this was not back in those days, and since that time she had truly grown to appreciate what a good friend Lyra was, and how well she helped her reintegrate back into civillian life. So instead, she just lay there and wept at the loss of her dearest friend.
