Chapters History of the Brotherhood
Celestia looked up to see her sister's silhouette in the moon as she continued to cry she looked around to see her castle in need of repairs but knowing the halls are full of memories she'll never forget and will constantly remind her of her sin.
“Sister why did you turn, why didn't you just talk to me?”
As she walks out the room she turns to see guards galloping towards her and wipes her eyes before looking towards them.
“Princess what happen to Princess Luna? Why did she turn?”
Celestia smiled as she raised her head “I don't know why she turned but she has been imprisoned in the moon until our one thousand and twenty fiftieth.” There was a silence as the guards payed respect for the lost princess “I am saddened by my sister's banishment but we must take this as a lesson even those of power can lose control of themselves and as such we shall make preparation in case I turn somehow or if we need a second defense.”
“But princess we have no one more powerful than you."
“That will soon change. Go fetch me Starswirl and Captain Lighthoof.”
“Hello Celestia you summoned me?”
“Princess you called?”
She turned around to see her Captain with his head down and Starswirl waiting patiently. “Yes to both of you I called you both cause you too are who I would trust the most to help me create a force more powerful than me.”
“Celestia forgive me but how will you do that it's taken me two hundred years to match your power. Also how is the captian of recon suppose to help in magical power?”
“Starswirl while he won't help magically he shall help keep the power secret. So you shall respect his presence and stay your tongue before it bites.” She walked over to her desk to pull a map of castle and surrounding land “If we are going to have a group to make sure I'm kept in check we shall make its head quarters close so Captain where should we keep the entrance?”
"Princess I don't think I fully understand can you elaborate more?"
"You shall chose the location for the force to stay since you have built many of our starting headquarters and trade post.This way i shall know for sure it is safe."
“Well if I may ask do you have a map of the castle layout” Celestia pulls out another map and spreads it in front of Lighthoof and he points to a storage area in the lower levels “While I am sure a outside location will be easier to built a better strategic option would be to build it under the castle with a entrance outside and inside the castle and I think this store room will be a good place to start its big enough for machinery to get through and isn't used often providing more security and secrecy.”
“Hey Gold” the unicorn pulled her head out of the book “Can we just read this next week nothing interesting has happened?”
“What!? We haven't even got to where they see what's inside the storage room to see if they could build the headquarters!!”
“So what we can read later we have a test in five minutes.”
“Fine but I call the dagger!”
Silver Rolled his eyes as they continue to trot towards the coliseum
“So you ready for the test? You never practiced.”
“I don't need to practice its all knowledge for me.”
“I'm sure about that but you still need to practice fighting with a sword especially--”
“Cause I'm a pegasus and I don't have the upper hand of magic yaddah yaddah.”
Silver rolled his eye's “then why don't you practice your sword skills?”
“Because this is the Alpha test not a field test.”
As they walked up to the gates outside coliseum they see their zebra friend waiting for them.
“Hey Brutus, how the rhyming going?”
“It is going good, but how is your journey of womanhood.”
“Can't you just say, good how are you?”
“No because I can cause you to irritate, and I must admit it is great.”
Silver glared at him
“Alright I'll stop, you got anger problems my friend.”
Gold giggled as she looked around to see a pony sitting in a strange position. “Hey don't hold up I'll meet you inside guy's.”
As they continue to argue Gold walked over to the pony as she got closer she notice on his hindlegs he had a book propped up.
“What you reading?”
“Umm..Well it's complicated and controversial so yeah.”
“I'm smart and don't care about pony's opinion.”
“It's about human biology and history of their dissection both alive and dead.”
“Huh so either you're bored or doing research. I'm willing to bet research.”
“How did you know?”
Gold smiled as she pointed to his eye “you're wearing a colored contact lens to hide your heterochromia* and the only pony who has that problem and is interested humans and that is Doctor Pendragon.”
"You can tell that by looking at me?"
“Nope you just confirmed it I could tell because of the way you're sitting.”
“Huh.”
She holds her hoof out “I'm Gold professional at recon and gathering information”
Alex but I'm sure you know that I'm alternate dimension researcher.”
“Quite a tittle.”
He scoffed “I’m fifty eight and done forty years of research I think I deserve it.”
"Huh well are you taking the test?"
“Yeah I'm hoping they'll let me use this.”
He pulls out a cylinder metal tube and hands it to Gold. She takes it and turns it around in her hooves, she notices to four buttons on the side “What do these do?”
He smiles as he takes the cylinder back “They make it more interesting.You'll find I tend to make a show out of what I do.”
"Heh you'll get along with some of my friends then, want to meet them?"
“Uhh sure why not?”
As they both got up they heard horns go off “Well looks like we need to meet up dureing the fights good luck.”
As she walked into the gates she saw hundreds of ponies heading to the spectator gates.
“Well hope this will be fun.”
As the stands continue to fill Gold and Silver sat on Brutus’s back while he continue to push ups.
“Can we get off I want to practice with Gold?”
“It goes alphabetical we will have time to fight.”
“So who's first Gold, I want to know if I should be bold.”
“Alex should be going first and from what I gathered it should be interesting”
“Why do you say that.”
“He's fighting a new monster that's been made, a changing infinite is what they're calling it until they can make a right name for it.”
“What does it do.”
Just wait and you'll enjoy what you see
As the crowd cheers Silver and Gold get off Brutus to see what happening “Huh looks like Alex feels confident”
Alex continues to wave at the crowd and a stallions voice is heard “Calm down ponies. Today I introduce the first candidate for the Alpha team he is apparently skilled in using a whip and his greatest skill is his intelligence meet Alex Pendragon and hope he doesn't die.Release the beast!”
As the gate lifts people look go see a small bunny hop out of the gate ponies started whispering and booing Alex smiles as he pulls out a cylinder and pulls it apart at the middle to make two whips
“Huh I thought he said the cylinder would be interesting?”
As he wipes towards the bunny the whip suddenly lights aflame as the bunny quickly hops away.
“Huh I spoke too soon”
The suddenly was surrounded in green fire as it became a manticore and flew up. Alex quickly wrapped his whip around its tail and pulled him to the ground.The manticore changed, it became more see through and held the shape of mareaquin as ponies continue to murmur Alex waited as he stared into its see through its face and he could of swore it grinned suddenly as it charged towards him. He tried to jump out of the way but it surrounded him and encased him in a ball of water as he tried to move the water followed his movements. Alex moved his hoof down to the lower button of his left whip when he pressed it the water was suddenly vibrating a strings of electricity made it shake and when it stopped both fell down as the water morphed back into a passed out bunny. Alex grabbed his head as he grabbed the bunny and held it up in the air as the ponies cheered his name “ALEX!ALEX!ALEX!ALEX!”
“Huh Brutus looks like your gonna have to show off a lot more than your brute strength to win this one”
“Gold not funny.”
“Too scared to rhyme?”
“Yes.”
“Well I give you a little help I noticed it needs to concentrate to morph and it learns from what you can do and will modify itself based on that showing it is intelligent.”
“Thanks Silver now I'm more scared.”
Alex walked in and laid on the floor panting and rubbing his head “So you're full of surprises.” Alex opened his eyes to see a familiar face.
“Hey Gold. Impressed I assume?”
“With your skills in using a whip mostly but yes. I notice you only used two buttons what do the other two do?”
“I'll tell you after I see what you can do in the ring”
“Alright fair enough.Hey my friend is up next come see
I can barely stand
Well I'll hold you up than.
"Welcome Brutus skilled in archery, hoof combat, and club combat and his greatest skill is patience let's see what he can do against the changing infinite!"
"BRUTUS!BRUTUS!BRUTUS!BRUTUS!"
Brutus smiled as he pulled up his club and everyone cheered as the gate opened and this time a changling walked out. "Well I better not disappoint."
Brutus continues to stare at the changeling as it changed into a small dragon and started flying towards him spewing fire Brutus charged headfirst as he threw a rungu* at the dragon causing it fall. Brutus quickly picked up his rungu and grabbed the dragon by the neck and continue beating it's face. The dragon quickly changed and morphed into a eel slipping out of Brutus's grasp. It quickly morphed into Brutus weapon's and all. Surprised at first Brutus smiled as the crowd begin to boo he quickly threw a boomerang the Brutus copy quickly knocked it down with a rangu before getting hit with another from Brutus as he quickly grabbed the copy. "You know i had to practice for two years to learn how to use that. and you learning how to do it immediately after copying me is just plain insulting." he quickly threw his copy to the wall causing it to transform back to a changeling. He walked over and grabbed the changeling and held it up as half the stadium cheered.
"So It seems you didn't impress the crowd that much."
"Silver I am trying to impress the superiors......Damn I can't rhyme that."
"Heh well i hate to get into a bar fight with you Alex Pendragon, Nice to meet you."
"Brutus Nice to meet ya Alex I knew you were smart but i didn't think a scientist like you would know how to fight."
"I'm not great but I've always been good with a whip so i just modified one to fit my needs so i could get out of situations where I'm in trouble."
"Nice how your head that electricity had to hurt."
"I work with it all the time I'm fine now but before your fight my head hurt from nearly drowning."
"Haha i forgot that's why you shocked yourself and the audience i might add."
"Hahahaha. you know your friend is a riot definitely different from Silver"
Silver Rolled his eyes "Come on my sister is up now"
"Your siblings?"
"Yes now watch Playcolt"
Taken aback Alex stepped back "Whats with the insult I've just meet you"
"Yeah well I've seen you eyeing my sis and i don't like it"
"So what you don't approve of me?"
"Yes you got the look of someone who takes only what they want when they need it."
"Well you aren't much yourself from what I've experienced so far."
Brutus rolled his eyes as he continue to watch Gold's fight Silver why do you care.
"Oh I'm suppose to be offended by that, I'm not trying to impress you"
"Neither am I but you seem to angry for no real reason"
"I'll have you know he doesn't get angry for no reason"
"Hey Gold here's the recording."He pulls a chip from in his front pocket of his jacket and hands it to Gold.
"Wait what?"
I wanted to see how you are in arguments and stressful situations so i asked Silver to instigate a argument with you"
"HAHAHAH OH MY CELESTIA THAT IS HYSTERICAL!"
"Brutus that's not funny i don't know weather to be mad at the fact i got angry for no reason or the fact i just got played."
"Tell you what you can ask anyone of us a favor except Silver sense i can't account for him."
"Hmm, than I ask for not to listen to that recording until i say its ok"
Gold thought for a moment before smiling "Deal"
"Hey Gold I'm going to borrow this suit do you mind?"
"Fine but it might be a bit small on you"
"As Silver walked out Alex decided to ask something "What weapon did you use gold"
"A dagger"
"Where's the blood than?"
"You'll see just watch"
Silver Walked out to be greeted by a crowd who looked intrigued more than entertained Why do they looked intrigued but quite a few of them look bored hmm I'll have to spice it up for the crowd if they are to leave happy. "Welcome Silver it says here you are great at combat and strategy so we're hoping to have a fight at least as interesting as the first so I'm asking you any ideas to make the fight interesting."
Silver though for a moment "Have me fight three beast and and take off the shock collar's" The crowd cheered while Brutus shook his head and Gold stood up to get a better look.
"Release three without the collars!" As the gate lifted three ran creatures that looked like a black pony with no mane or tail looked at Silver and growled as he held up his sickle**. All three ran as he jumped over and sliced ones head off notice no blood he looked at the head to see it eye's blinking. Time seem to slow down as he continue to think They can't die from disembodiment! This is a problem all my swords are meant to kill if I continue to cut the heads off i'll get nowhere and the crowd won't be entertained, I'll have to knock them out than but not yet I have to endure this fight and let them get a few hits.I can't use my sickle anymore though I'll have to use my double swords but those are slashing so I'll have to watch my step time sped up*** and Silver through his sickle and pulled out two double edged swords. The sickle went through two legs of one beast but it simply grew replacements as it ran. Silver ran toward the two and they stopped and transformed their leg into a blade Silver jumped at both as they blocked with their swords and then continue they started attacking with relentless strikes as Silver Continue he quickly ducked and notice a seam at the infinite's neck quickly seal up. They can regenerate and put themselves back together what are these things? As he quickly rolled to the side he say one infinite pull both it's bladed hands out the chest of the other two as as all three looked at him and grin as if to show teeth but before Silver could saw anything the teeth slowly grew from it's gums. Celestia help me.
"Kill him! Rip them limb from limb Silver! Eat the guy whole!" Why do ponies enjoy watching this?
As the walked towards him on their hinds legs tIme slowed down How am I gonna kill these guys? Wait the third one took a while to reattach his head, that may help but their incredibly fast. Wait I need my sickle!
Time speed back up as he quickly smashed the jewel on his chestpiece causing wings to sprout from them he quickly flew over the infinites grabbing his sickle as he put away one of his swords. He flew towards them as he cut off their heads with his sickles and stabbed them onto his double edged sword the bodies suddenly sprout wings from the backs just as black as their bodies. As they flew he yelled "Open the beast gates!" As he flew towards the gates he threw his sword into the pens and the three headless infinites flew in just as the gates closed and the crowd cheered as he walked back to the center and held his sickle up as black blood dripped from its blade
Silver walked in to be greeted by his sister hugging him to the point normal ponies would call it strangling “Don't ever do something that stupid again!”
“Hey Silver when you tried to fly, Your movement weren't like a river.”
“Well Brutus how about you give it a try.”
“That was a question yes?”
“Nope”
Brutus took off running with silver behind him with her flight pack as she rolled her eyes she notice Alex flipping through pages of a book frantically “Hey Alex what did you think you like Silver and Brutus?”
“Brutus is pretty likable even though it appears he enjoys being a jerk, and Silver appears to a brilliant strategist but calm pony who simply enjoys the company of his friend's.”
“What about me”
“Well your personality seems to be mostly gather information so far and from what I can tell you're not exactly like that so all I can say about you is, cute.”
Gold giggled to hide her blush “Thanks hey meet me tomorrow at the market I want to talk”
Alex looked up “Sure”
As she ran out he quickly closed the book and pulled out a purple crystal and it light up as a light blue unicorn looked back at him “Bright I was sleeping what---”
“We need to talk now” he said with anger and emphasis on now
“Come over and we can talk.” Alex put the crystal away and started running slowly cursing his unicorn friend under his breath.
Silver moved his rook "Check."
Brutus moves his king "Silver this is boring can we make this more interesting?"
Silver moved his bishop "Alright name the terms. Check."
"We have to answer a question while we move, this will challenge you to think about two things at once." Brutus says as he moves his queen to take Silver's bishop.
Silver moves his knight in between his king and Brutus's queen "Check. Sounds fun, if you were forced to choose a town for reconnaisse that you couldn't leave which one would you chose?"
Brutus thought for a moment before moving his pawn "Crystal mountains they're secluded close enough to civilization I could get food and the crystal empire doesn't get many threats since Sombra was sealed away. Do you approve of Gold and her new friend going at it?"
Silver eyes widen as he quickly stood up "WHAT?"
"HAHAHAH calm down It was a joke but from what I can tell you don't like him."
Silver moved a pawn forward and switched it out to a queen "I don't but it's not my place"
Brutus moved his pawn and promoted it to a rook "Checkmate. But you're her brother don't you get special say, besides you haven't had a real conversation with him."
"Have you?"
"Yes he gave me a book on human history."
"Did you want it?"
"Yes I asked for it. do you think he's forceful or something?"
"He just seems the type."
"Would Gold be friends with that kind of pony?"
"No, I just don't want her to get hurt."
“Well than get to know him”
“I guess. So why are we friends?”
“What do you mean?”Brutus immediately went into a falsetto voice “Are you breaking up with me?”
Silver rolled his eyes as he continued “See that's what I mean you're always cheery, charismatic, uplifting, and not serious about anything.”
"Heh yeah"
"I'm serious, strategic, and introverted.”
“Well you're not approachable but your sister handles that you good to the friends you already have and that's important or at least the good part of you.”
“I'm sure you're right but it just I feel like if I don't accept him Gold will be mad and if she's mad at me I can't be there to protect her and---”
“Tell you what I'll come over and practice fighting with you, that always cheers you up!”
Silver gives a smile as Brutus walks off “Sure.Why not.”
Silver and Brutus clashed swords back and forth “Come on Brutus give it your all nothing but defense will only buy you time.”
Brutus parrys as Silver stocked at him with precision “All I need is time, once my rook gets here I can win the battle."
"What?" Just than there was knock at the basement door.
"I'll get it, can you do me a favor and read this."
Brutus hands Silver a scroll and he reads it aloud "'You be happy I did what I'm about to do'.Brutus this isn't proper grammar."
"Brutus let me out this isn't funny!" Silver walked up the steps to see Alex banging on the door.
Celestia damn it Brutus Silver moved Alex back as he punched the door only to receive throbbing pain that's not from splinters "FUCKING TARTARUS!"
"Yeah i moved a dresser in front of the door while Alex was banging on the door Silver!"
"Brutus let us out!"
"Tomorrow I will but until than have fun! Oh also I'll tell Gold after I helped you move furniture you left to train at the coliseum and wont be back till morning see ya Silver!"
Silver walked down the steps to the basement and started sharpening his swords "So Silver umm can I help?"
"Do you know how to polish a sword using a wheatstone"
I'm a little rusty but yeah." Silver points the file towards the chair across from him and tosses him a wheatstone. Alex sat down in the chair as he polished the sword and listen to the scraping the echoed through the basement and remembered what Gold had told him "So your sister tells me you enjoy chess."
Silver raises his brow as he responds "Yes I do"
"So you want to play chess?"
"What makes you say I have a set down here?"
"Brutus told me you spend most of your time training and working down here."
"Huh sure i guess how's the blade?" Alex held up the blade to Silver "Huh not bad. Polish this one while I search for the board"
"So anything special you wanna make like special rules or anything?"
Silver thought has he continue to search and the scraping calmed him down "Let's pretend the pieces are people we're close to."
Alex gave a quizzical look as he said "Sure, alright."
Silver pulled a wooden box out with a checkered pattern on the top "Here it is." he set up the pieces than set it on a table.
Alex looked over the field "where are your pawn's."
"Don't believe in using pawns they make it too easy."
Alex picked up his pawns and set them to the side "Nows its fair."
Silver smiled "We can't take others pieces for at least ten moves then." He said as he moved his rook. Alex thought for a second as he moved his bishop. Silver his knight in return, than Alex his rook, Silver his queen, Alex his king, Silver his knight, Alex his bishop Silver his knight and finally Alex moved his queen and said checkmate. "Huh nice one Alex you never moved your queen except for the final blow who did you imagine that as?"
"Who's was your?"
"My sister."
"Huh I imagined Gold as well."
"Well than I guess were more similar than I expected"
"Heh Yeah. Does that door open outward?"
"Yes why?"
I can pick it, than we can just move the dresser."
Really do you something to pick it?
Just a screwdriver i got a bobby pin.
Silver tossed him one from the floor and they walked up the stairs.alex pulled the pin from his mane and started to pick at the lock "Why do have a bobby pin in your mane?"
Never leave home without one just in case and it doesn't show easily in my ragged mane." The door clicked and As alex opened it they moved the dresser and found gold staring at them
"What happened to you two?"
"Brutus honey"
"HONEY??!"
Alex Knocked on the door to be greeted by an all too familiar face "Hey Brother nice to see you--" Alex pushed past him and started flipping through books on the shelf "---again."
Alex threw down the last book off the shelf and looked at him "Dark where's your journal?"
"Why? No why are you angry you weren't this angry two days ago."
Alex said nothing as he waited for an answer. Dark sighed as he answered "It's behind a false panel under the J section."
Alex went back to the shelf knocking till he found the panel. Dark sat down fearing his brother's wrath as he flipped through his journal "Bright if you just---"
"It's Alex" he growled causing Dark to shut up "Three years eight days ago ring any bells?"
"Is that the day you're looking at?" Alex nodded "The king approached me to create a monster to help the coliseum get more attention. I finished about a year ago."
"What DNA bases did you use?"
"Bright I--"
"ALEX AND WHAT BASES?!"
"Unicorn,Pegasus,Earth pony, and Changeling."
"Fucking Tartarus Dark!"
"Look I know we canceled it but the king found out and personally told me to resume the experiment. I didn't tell you because you never go to the coliseum so i thought you wouldn't find out."
"I canceled the experiment for a reason!" Alex sighed as he sat down and rubbed his temples "How many are there?"
"When I discovered their healing and regenerative capabilities i stopped at thirty the king has only twenty five."
"Did you get rid of their intelligence?"
"I hatched the first twenty five early but the king wanted me to make sure at least one have intelligence so five are still in eggs."
"Well how long until they hatch?
"I was able to delay it by five years but a side affect is they will learn at three times the rate."
"Well i know you won't commit treason so what do i need to do to take them in when they hatch?"
"Bri--Alex you can't be serious."
"I have five years to prepare for their arrival and times ticking so tell me."
"A mate willing to raise them."
"Well that's a confidence booster."
"Look I'm sorry ok I know I've been weak and i just can't say no to him he's just...." Dark sighed as Alex pulled him in for a hug "You aren't mad are you."
"I am more angry than i have ever been but that's because you didn't tell me.Not because you went against my wishes, but I'll get over it."
Dark smiled as he let go "I'm going to see mom and dad today, want to come along?"
"I got time why not."
Both brothers walked outside down the paths as they reached the cemetery they both go inside and sit in front of a tombstone.
Dark laid down as alex sat down in front of the stone and read aloud "Here lays Shooting and Shining Star respect for for their founding to science and magic studies."
"They were considered the greatest weren't they?"
"I guess but most contributions was made by others they just found the basics."
"Yeah I guess so. I dont think ill be over them."
"Probably not but you still got me here."
"Yeah thanks."
Gold continue walking through the streets of the market browsing the shops. “Hey Gold!” She turned to see a shopkeep waving her over.She walked over to see it's a blacksmith shop. “Hey I just got finished with that dagger, I know it’s a day late but I wasn't able to finish the engraving before the match started.”
‘It’s OK I was able to handle myself.”
“Huh well did you pass?”
“Yeah I'm surprised I got in honestly.”
“You think you would be more excited only the select few are chosen.”
I know but I really don't have anything to gain from it but respect from my brother.”
Huh I thought it would be easy for you to get that” Gold turns around to see Alex holding a bag of bits as he tosses them to the smithpony and hands him his whips handles “Gold coating please, real gold.”
“It'll take five minutes.”
“Huh Gold want to walk and talk?”
“It's why I came here.”
“Well I wanted to--OW” Alex looked behind him to see Brutus with a diaper on his head and crossbow. “Brutus are you serious?”
“Does thou regret giving me that book.”
“A little it seems I’ve overlooked something.”
“Hey rhyming is my thing. Now I'm going to screw around with Silver.”
“It seems you two are getting along well.”
“We do but he seems a bit umm--”
“Off, hyperactive, abnormal?”
“--excitable.”
“Oh well that seem a lot nicer than most ponies.But yeah he's always been a excited person he always cheers everyone up when he smiles, although there was a time when he wasn't always this happy.”
“Really when?”
“When we first met, but it's a long story.”
“I got 4 minutes.”
“Well I started on the first day of our last year of training. I was second best of the class so I was required to help anyone who need and I was assigned the newest addition to the class a short zebra who liked to fight with clubs. So I did as I was told and walked up to him and shook his hoof. But I notice when he was practicing his strike's weren't powerful enough so I got him angry and he tore the dummy to shreds. It was than I figured something was wrong if he had that kind of power and didn't talk to anypony.”
“What if he just wasn't social?”
“I was 6 I didn't think about that.”
"Anyway so I dragged my brother along with me as I followed him after school and well he heard apparently notice us following him because at one point he turned around and said 'I may be small but i am willing to fight, so show yourself if you have any foresight' so me and Silver walked out and i told him how i found him rather peculiar how he seemed to hold himself back in class."
"Well you sound certainly blunt for a six year old?"
"Yeah but i grew up with my brother what do you expect. Anyway so he told us that he just doesn't know how zebras are treated so he didn't want to try anything dumb. In response I promised me and Silver would happily be friends with him and Silver decided to be dick and say 'so do you have to speak in rhyme or is that just a habit you formed?' I was about to call him out but Brutus beat me to the punch 'Respect of tradiction is important, I'm sure even you have some you don't want want shortened' I smiled as i realized him and Silver wernt going always going to see eye to eye."
"Hmm that's a nice story but the only thing I learn from that is your nosy don't know when to quit and care about other's."
"Well that's how I've always been haven't changed much since i was a kid and i thought you wanted to know about brutus that's the reason i even told you the story."
"Heh to be honest i just wanted to get to know you more before asking ya out."
"Oh uhh well i guess It wouldn't hurt to give it a try."
"Tonight at eight than?"
"Sure why not?"
"HEY KID THE COATINGS ARE DONE!"
