Marcus is confused…

They came and they helped us. We were grateful and paid the price, even though our world was a broken mess because of their war. We followed them into the stars and we fought at their side. We understood enough to find a common enemy. We did it for revenge. We did it because it was the right thing to do, as they did too.

After it was done, we built the Conversion Centers when they urged us to. Even though we didn’t really understand why they were necessary. We did everything they wanted! Why wouldn’t they just leave?

Marcus had questions. Eventually he got answers. Some he didn’t like and others made him angry. And that is why he did the things that he did.

In the end, he understood that he hadn't understood anything at all.

I decided for adding a 'gore warning', but I'm not entirely sure it's necessary. I'm playing it safe. And I'll likely add a cover art, when I have the opportunity to commission the artist I'm thinking of.
