The Golden Solstice Chronicles
Chapter 1. The Missing Sister
Load Full StoryHis name... now that's hard to explain. You see, he was never given a real name by his real parents. He never even knew their names. His mother died during birth, and the father died of cancer after the poor thing was conceived. Very tragic story, but that's besides the point. This pony's name is Robin, a name given to him by his foster parents. This is the story of one certain Nightmare Night, Robin's friend Silver Sparkles, sister of Princess Twilight Sparkle, went missing that night. They say it was all Nightmare Moon who did it, she's supposedly the "kidnapper", but can you really trust the media? Nightmare Moon is just a myth... right?
Robin walked around Ponyville, exploring the attractions, trying to enjoy himself to the fullest. There was apple bobbing, bean bag tossing, and even drinking games for him to enjoy. He wasn't one for alcohol, but a shot of good liquor never hurt anypony. He walked into the Hay Cafe, and saw ponies gambling bits in darts. He decided he'd test his luck, but only once, he told himself.
He walked out of the Cafe, heavily intoxicated, and bit-less. He had no idea how he was going to pay for an inn to stay at. It was only eleven, so he had plenty of time to do other things if he had the stomach to last the night. Hopefully his liver goes easy on him.
After a night of debauchery, he woke up in front of Sugar Cube Corner, his workplace, wondering where his wallet went. His ID was in there, so he had no way to get out of Ponyville, by train at least. He decided to head back to the Cafe to see if he could find out what had happened last night, not being able to recollect the events.
Somepony named Summer Glider, who was baring a green sun on his flank, a purple mane, and yellow fur, was talking to the bartender about somepony disappearing in the night. Robin sat next to Summer, and eavesdropped on the conversation. Robin was always curious about what was going on around the place.
"For somepony to jus' go missin'... strange, in'nit?" Summer asked the bartender.
"I ain't too sure on what happened, but as long as it don't interfere with my job, I'll continue to ignore what happens 'round here." the bartender replied. Robin looked over, and spoke to Summer.
"Somepony went missing last night?" Robin asked.
Summer nodded. "Right into the black o' night. Most folk around here thinkin' it was Nightmare Moon... pfft, what's Nightmare Moon gotta do with us?" Robin shook his head.
"I've no idea. Would you care to enlighten me on the person who "disappeared"?" Robin asked.
"None other than Princess Twilight's own sister, Silver Sparkles... was 'er name if I'm not mistak'n." Robin's eyes widened.
"Wait... S-Silver went missing last night!?" Robin asked shakily.
"I jus' told you that, you bloke. Who are you anyways?" Summer questioned.
"R-Robin, sir. And you?"
"The one and only Summer Glider. Haven't heard of me? Wot, been livin' under a rock?"
"I'm more worried about my friend Silver, not some silly ego...." Robin told him. "
Silly ego?! SILLY EGO!? Jus' who do you think ye' are?! A gift from Celestia? Don't make me laugh!"
They continued to go back and forth, turning the conversation into a verbal fight. The bartender was forced to kick them both out, Summer, being stubborn, blamed Robin. "At least I have wings, you buckin' unicorn." Summer insulted.
"I could give myself wings if I wanted to! And watch your mouth, there's fillies around!" Robin yelled back.
"Forget the fillies! You know what, I bet I could find this missing mare by m'self!"
"Go ahead and try, where are YOU going to look? In the sky? She could be anywhere in Equestria!"
"Is tha' a challenge?" Summer asked.
"Maybe it is!" Robin confirmed.
"Let's see who can find her first then! O' course we both know I'm going to win, but I'll give ye the benefit o' the doubt. Get out o' my sight, Robin. Nothing more than useless you are..." Summer retorted, as he walked away.
"You? Win? We'll see about that, Summer..." Robin said, walking to his part-time job at Sugar Cube Corner.
After he was done working, he headed down to the Everfree Forest. He had to find a certain zebra to aid him in his quest. After a bit of searching, he found a hut. He knocked on the door, and a striped zebra came to answer.
"Ah, hello my child. What is it that you need compiled?" Robin walked inside.
"I need something to help me find a certain somepony."
"Is it a friend you need to track? Then come with me, into the back."
Zecora lead Robin into the back of the hut, and rolled a blank map onto a table next to the doorway.
"A map? What am I supposed to do, draw on it?" Robin asked.
"All you need to do, is speak the name of who you knew. Only then will it show the way, but be weary, it may be dark and gray." Zecora told Robin.
"I... I need to find Silver Sparkles." The map blew up in a flash of light, and a path was shown on the map.
"It leads deeper into the forest... underground?" Robin asked.
"The map is never wrong, you must go, if you are strong." Robin rolled up the map, and headed for the door.
"Thanks for everything, Zecora." Robin said.
"Do come back, even if things are dim and black." Zecora added. Robin walked out of the hut, and looked for the way to go.
"It says to go east..." Robin looked up at the sky. "The sun rises in the east, and sets in the west..." The sun was lowering on the horizon. "Then it's this way. No turning back now, Robin." he said, as he headed into the dark forest. This is where the quest to find Silver really begins.
Author's Note
Phew, with this being my first fan fiction and all, it was pretty exhausting. I'd like to do another chapter soon, so be on the look out for that. Other than that, the story should be set up for the next chapter!
