A pair of small children were crossing the street, one was six, the other, five. The five year old was Jason Carloan. The six year old was his brother, Chris Carloan. They finished crossing the street with plenty of time left before the light changed. Jason realized that he dropped his favorite toy in the middle of the road.

    "My toy!" Jason exclaimed.

"I'll get it." Chris said. A man was driving his car, and he got a text and answered it. While he wasn't paying attention, the little boy ran out into the road to grab his brother's toy. The man didn't look up from his phone. Instead he plowed through the intersection and hit the kid. The man didn't stop the car. He knew he hit someone, and didn't want to go to jail. He just kept driving. In the intersection, Chris was just laying there. He wasn't moving or breathing, just bleeding. A young Jason was left scared, alone, and crying. He heard sirens in the distance, but he didn't move.

    Jason, age eight.

Mr. Carloan walked up to his son with a sad look on his face. "Hey sport, I know it's been hard since your brother died. From now on, you can have whatever you want. It can be anything." offered Mr. Carloan. Eight year old Jason was watching a YouTube video where people were make different gadgets. An idea popped into Jason's head.

"Can I have some power tools? And some safety gear?" He asked. Mr. Carloan thought for a second, and he cracked a smile.

"Tell 'ya what, I'll get you anything you need create things like that." He said, pointing to the video.

"Do you mean it dad?" Jason asked with a smile.

    Jason, age ten.

"Jason, what are you doing with that screwdriver?" Jason's teacher asked.

"I'm adjusting an arm I made for Jimmy." He replied, causing the class to laugh. "I'm serious, it works!" The teacher got an idea.

"Well Jason, if it works then show us. Jimmy, can you come here please?" A child with a half missing arm stood up and walked to the back of the class.

"Ok, I'm going to put this on, so hold still. It may feel a little tight." Jason said. Jimmy sat down and did as he was told. Jason put on the robotic arm and adjusted a few screws. "Alright, now try to wiggle your fingers." Jason instructed. The teacher stood there, not expecting it to work. Then Jimmy opened and closed his hand. The teacher went wide eyed, and the class gasped.

"Now try and move each separate finger." Jason said. The boy touched his new index finger to his thumb, then his middle finger to his thumb. Jimmy touches the ring finger to his thumb, then his pinky. The kid then made his wrist rotate, in the same range of motion as a real hand.

"Awesome!" An ten year old girl named Rainbow Dash yelled.

"I can move it just like I could before!" Jimmy exclaimed happily. The teacher was still standing there in shock. She walked up to Jason and grabbed him by the shoulders.

"How did you make that?!" She asked.

"It was easy, Miss. I've been making these kinds of things since I was eight." The class let out a collective ''wow'' as Jimmy started using his new hand to write.

"Am I in trouble?" Jason asked.

"No Jason, I just want to talk with your parents. Ah, Mr. and Mrs. Carloan." The teacher said as Jason's parents entered the room.

"What's this about?" Mr. Carloan asked.

"I would like to discuss something about your son. He's show an incredible intellegence." she answered.

    "How so?" Mrs. Carloan asked.

"Well, just today he was adjusting a robotic arm he made for one of his classmates.  This particular student had lost more than half of his arm in a shark attack. Jason made a working elbow joint and fingers. My point is, Jason made him one that not only worked, but the student was able to control it very easily."

"Son, is this true?" Mr. Carloan asked.

"I was only trying to help." Jason explained sheepishly.

"Son, you don't need to worry. This is a very good thing." Mr. Carloan said.

    "Really?"

"Yes, it shows us that you are a very smart person. You should be happy about what you've done. But how did you learn to do all of this?" Mrs. Carloan asked.

"I just taught myself, making things in my work room all the time." Jason said.

"His work room?" The teacher asked curiously.

"Yes, he has a room where he keeps a bunch of tools we bought him. He made a desk out of plywood and he loves being in there." Mrs. Carloan explained.

"He was so depressed after his older brother died, so I told him he could have anything he wanted. He asked for a tool set, so I got it for him, along with safety gear and supplies whenever he needs them." Mr. Carloan added.

"I see. Well, that explains why he's so good with technology. I've also been monitoring his grades and he's been getting 100's in every subject. I even did a test to see how much he knew. As it turns out, with how smart he currently is, you have two choices. One, you could put him into high school early or two, you could keep him out of school for five years and start school again when he's fifteen." Jason's teacher said.

"Well son, it looks like you're going to have a lot more time in your work room." Mr. Carloan said with a smile.

"I see you've already decided." The teacher said with a smile.

"Yeah, we'll keep him home until he's fifteen. We just don't want the others to pick on him for being so young." Mrs. Carloan said.

"It's completely understandable. High school kids can be a bit harsh. So Jason, it looks like you won't have to come to school for the next five years."

    Jason, age fifteen.

Jason sat back in his seat on the school bus. He was staring out the window, watching everything go by. He slowly looked next to him when he felt someone sit down. Seated there was a rainbow-haired girl with cyan skin. She shifted her bags a bit to get comfortable. She looked over at Jason.

"Mind if I sit here?" She asked. Jason shook his head and went back to staring out the window. "Name's Rainbow Dash." She introduced herself, with a hand extended.

"Jason Carloan." He said, shaking her hand.

"Hey, I know that name. You're that kid who made that robotic arm for Jimmy." Rainbow Dash said.

"It's child's play compared to what I can make now, but yeah, that's me." Jason shrugged.

"Where have you been for the past five years? One day you just stopped coming." Rainbow asked, confused.

"I was allowed to stay out of school until I was fifteen because of how much I knew. They said I could either go to high school or stay out of school for five years."

"So why didn't you go to high school?" Rainbow asked.

"My parents thought that I might get picked on by the older kids."

"Well, if you ever have any trouble with people messing around with you, just let me know, O.K.?" Rainbow said, and Jason nodded. The bus stopped in front of the school and doors swung open. "Well, I'll see ya later Jason." She said.

    "See ya later, Rainbow Dash."

"Just call me Rainbow for short." Rainbow said. Jason nodded and stepped off the bus.

"Ugh, first day of school. This is going to be tough." Jason mumbled to himself.
