Twilight Sparkle lay nestled under her covers, curled into a little ball of light purple fur, breathing deeply and evenly. Her eyes were closed, yet her mind was open as she listened to the stillness of the library. After several minutes of hearing nothing but her own breathing and the pitter patter of raindrops as they hit her window, Twilight was finally convinced that Spike must be fast asleep.
With careful, calculated motions, the purple unicorn uncovered herself, sitting up in her bed. Every rustle of the sheets may well have been an earthquake, or a tornado, as they reverberated around the room. Twilight drew in a sharp breath through her teeth and she stood completely on her hooves. Clenching her eyes shut, she froze as though there was a grenade in the room ready to detonate.
When no such explosion happened, Twilight opened one eye and surveyed the dark room around her, lit only by the moonlight streaming in from the open window, as her eyes fell on the basket near her bed. Inside was a baby dragon, sleeping as though he was in a coma. Twilight let out a sigh of relief.
Treading as though she stood on eggshells, Twilight walked to the stairwell, grabbing a cloak off of a nearby hook as she went. With a last look to the dragon over her shoulder for good measure, the purple filly was out, silently stepping down the stairs.
The night was rather cold, icy rain falling from the clouds above. The moon was full and bright, illuminating the road as Twilight walked down it. She didn't mind rain too much, but the chilly breeze sent a shiver down her spine as she tied the cloak around her throat and drew up the hood. The town was long asleep, and Twilight was certain nopony would notice the cloaked and hooded figure as she made her way through the sleet.
Twilight enjoyed the fresh smell of the rain and the cold breeze as it licked her face, while she felt protected under the thick black cloak. As she walked, the filly listened to the occasional calls of an owl or two, which provided beautiful harmony with the sounds of droplets of rain hitting the stones.
Ponville grew smaller and smaller as Twilight continued, leaving her town far behind. She began trekking up a rocky hill, feeling the wet stones slip under her hooves. Soon she reached the summit, a flat grassy area from which a single, large oak tree grew at the very edge, high above the ground.
Twilight walked to the edge of the little cliff and settled herself under the tree, between the roots. She faced the town, high enough so that she could see every house from her vantage point. The wide leaves above her shielded Twilight from the rain as she sat, at the very tip of her hill, surrounded by only grass and fireflies.
The purple unicorn leaned into the strong trunk of the tree behind her, and took in the view in front. Ponyville looked so serene, so peaceful cradled between hills on either side, illuminated by a full yellow moon suspended in the sky. Sparing a minute to gaze at the bright orb, Twilight reveled in its beauty, from the perfect roundness to the gentle glow it emitted.
Several evenings had the purple unicorn spent under the tree, admiring her town and the everchanging moon that lit it. It was a perfect escape, a little moment when Twilight could leave her life, her duties, to sit quietly and think, or to lose herself in the splendor of the evening.
The unicorn closed her eyes and let out a sigh, immersing herself in the sounds of rainfall and the chirping of night birds. She dared to let her mind wander, hoping it would not reach-
Twilight opened her eyes again and looked down at her lap, trying to clear her mind, though to no avail. The purple filly lifted her head in exasperation, and became again entranced with the moon.
She lost her battle as she stared into the glow of the moon, her own thoughts driven away by the very pony she'd tried to avoid. A mare enveloped every recess of Twilight's mind, filling her thoughts with images of her silky blue coat, her starry eyes, her flowing mane as the filly continued staring at the moon. The unicorn indulged herself in thoughts of none other than Luna, all-powerful moon goddess, immortal, eternally beautiful, forever regal. Forever strong, forever gentle, forever...not hers.
Twilight knew this, of course. Luna was not a unicorn, nor pegasus, nor earth pony, but practically goddess, or spirit. She had seen thousands of years of life, of love and of hate, and she could never be Twilight's. Luna could never love her, it was only logical.
Pitter, patter. The sound of the rain finally brought the purple filly back to earth, and she broke her gaze to the moon. Adjusting her hood, Twilight stood to leave, with a final glance at the town she loved so dearly, and the moon that consumed her thoughts.
As she climbed down the wet path, the rain was joined with even more little droplets as they rolled down a hooded filly's cheeks.
*~*~*
"Twilight!"
A pair of claws grasped the filly and shook her shoulders vigorously. "Twilight, wake up!" The baby dragon said with panic lacing his voice.
Twilight stirred feebly before lifting one heavy eyelid to look up at Spike, yawning and rolling over. "Mmmpff...I'm awake..." She mumbled into her pillow. "Why so frantic?" Spike released her shoulders and sat back on the cushy bed, turning somewhat pink and grinning.
He laughed. "Oh haha, I thought you died for a second there." Twilight sat against her headboard with some difficulty and cocked an eyebrow at her assistant.
"You got me there, Sherlock." She said sarcastically, with a roll of her eyes. "I'm obviously dead." Spike looked down sheepishly. Twilight rubbed a hoof across her forehead and through her messy mane, before slumping back down, huffing.
Spike watched with concern at his mentor's less than chipper demeanor. Twilight let out another pitiful yawn as the little dragon pressed the back of his claw to her head, checking for radiating heat. "Are you okay, Twilight?"
Twilight forced a little smile and patted the back of his head weakly. "I'm okay, I was just up late." She lied through omission, before willing herself to be a little more positive. "Anyway, what is it, Spike?"
Spike lit back up like a lightbulb, before flickering out and scrunching up his features in frustration. "Oh yeah, I just wanted to...uh...I forgot..." He faded away, looking at his claws and mumbling something under furrowed brows. Twilight watched in amusement at her little dragon's expedition throuh the jungles of his memory before standing heavily, with a grunting sigh. Spike didn't twitch a muscle, still tucked comfortably in Twilight's feathery bed.
Twilight turned to face her purple and green assistant. "I'm starved. Are you hungry, Spike?" The dragon was jerked out of his trance as he shot from the bed, practically flying out the door. Twilight listened to the taps of his claws on wood as he clipped down the stairs, saying something unintelligible as he went. It was a miracle in itself as to how the floor wasn't engraved with a million tiny claw scratches. Twilight smiled to herself at the thought as she followed.
"Breakfast! I got it!" He exclaimed to nothing in particular, not taking notice of the filly who had followed his frantically tapping feet to the kitchen. Twilight let out a little cough, announcing her presence to the dragon, who continued tearing around the kitchen like a tornado.
"What do you want, Twilight?" He addressed her from over his shoulder as the unicorn watched patiently, waiting for him to finish his tirade. "Eggs? Cereal? Waffles?" The dragon listed, opening each cupboard door one by one. As he began to draw out random items from their depths, Twilight decided it was time to pull the plug, for the sake of order.
"Actually, I'll make breakfast today." She spoke, causing the dragon to pause. "Go ahead and sit down." Twilight smiled at the dumbstruck dragon. Breakfast was a fundamental in his list of morning chores, and Twilight, who was usually so busy with other things, taking it over was indeed a rare sight to behold.
Several minutes later, the table was adorned with plates of steaming eggs, potatoes, and muffins; Spike's eyes twinkled at the sight of it, as if he was presented with a heaping serving of jewels rather than a succulent breakfast. Twilight magically drew out the chair next to him and appraised her work proudly. All the while, the distance between Spike's claw and the chocolate muffin on top of the heap was inching closed.
Twilight noticed the movement. "Go on," She said warmly, levitating a scoop of potatoes onto her own plate. "Dig in." The speed at which the little dragon's plate was loaded was almost enough to make Rainbow Dash green.
Though he was the last to complain, Spike questioned Twilight's unusual behavior. She'd been so low when he woke her, and now volunteering to make breakfast? Something was definitely-
His thought's were quelled with another bite of chocolatey goodness as it frazzled his taste buds. Twilight was surely fine.
Twilight's mind wandered as she ate. The unicorn was desperate for something to clear her mind with, busying herself with anything she could. Breakfast had been a good start, but now the food was prepared, the product of her labor sitting deliciously on the table. Twilight's thoughts began to drift once more to...
No. She would not let unrequited longing spoil her day.
The purple filly unfurled the checklist she kept with her at any given time, and her eyes scanned the page, tracing the words. Spike watched through a mouthful of potato as she read, muttering to herself.
Twilight reached the bottom of the scroll with dismay, as the realization coated her insides. For once, the most studious of unicorns had nothing planned; it was an odd feeling to Twilight, empty, unprotected, vulnerable
"Well," she sighed, turning to the dragon, who was in the midst of helping himself to a third serving of toast. "Looks like we have some free time today." Spike lit up like a filly with a fresh new cutie mark.
He was nearly throttled by a particularly large piece of muffin as he affirmed the fact. "Really?" Twilight grinned softly at his enthusiasm, before nodding.
With that, and maybe a pumpkin muffin to go, the little dragon was halfway out of the room. As he left, Twilight faintly caught something over the sound of the front door closing.
"GoingtoRarity'sthanksTwilightseeyoulaterbye!"
The unicorn chuckled quietly as she glanced out the window, watching her number one assistant scuttle away, slowing briefly to do a little victory dance. As he disappeared over the bend, Twilight was hit with an odd realization; she was alone, for the first time in quite a while, the library was left with nothing but her and her thoughts.
As time stretched on, Twilight learned the hard way why she never left an unplanned day. The unicorn paced through her library, she perused her numerous volumes, she created next month's checklist. Every glance at the clock sent her farther into a stupor as time stretched as slowly as thick taffy.
Tick, tick. She befriended a dust bunny lying quaintly on the library floor. Tick, tick. The unicorn confessed to Clover IV the horrors of leaving a day unplanned, who listened patiently. Tick, tock. A draft caught Clover, who blew under a bookcase.
Utterly void of ideas, Twilight settled herself at her desk, staring at her quill. Her mind once again drifted, and she didn't stop it this time. Image after image of Luna burned through the purple filly's mind, as she indulged in thoughts of the princess.
Luna could never love her. Twilight burned out like a pile of ash as the sickening darkness enveloped her once more, until it was nothing but her and her desk in the choking abyss of her thoughts.
With nothing more than a moment's consideration, Twilight picked up the quill, straightened out her parchment, and began to write.
*~*~*
Twilight softly replaced her quill, folded away her remaining parchment, and sealed away her letter. She was startled by a slam of the door and a call from downstairs, hastily stuffing the note amongst a pile of other scrolls.
"Twilight, I'm back!" Spike's voice floated up to Twilight's study, where the unicorn sat frozen in her desk. She quickly gave herself a hard mental slap and clopped down the stairs to meet her assistant, who had begun to recount his adventures at the designer's boutique.
"...and she said I was such a darling, a real help, and to come over more often!" Twilight faced the dragon, who looked like he'd been beaten over the head with a cotton candy cloud tied with sunshine and soaked in love potion. Twilight smiled.
"Well, if she really likes your help I should send you over again tomorrow!" Twilight replied, much to the dragon's delight.
"Really?" He asked again, foot tapping as if he were resisting the urge to do another victory dance. Twilight smiled and nodded to confirm, as Spike gave a little wriggle in place. Gathering himself, he asked, "So what did you do while I was out?"
The unicorn swallowed. "A little organization, some reading... You know how it goes." Spike nodded. He was all too familiar with how it went. Twilight continued, "By the way, did you ever remember what you wanted to tell me this morning?"
Spike scrunched up once more in concentration, looking as though he was trying to figure out the meaning of the universe or Pinkie Pie rather than remember what he'd wanted to say only a few short hours ago. "I dunno...something...about Celestia?"
Twilight's grin slid down her face like warm butter and her pupils shrunk to pinpricks at the mention of the princess's name. "Oh my stars, Spike, I forgot to send her the letter!" Twilight instinctively whipped her head left and right, striped mane trailing behind her. Spike watched, brows crumpled in confusion.
"What letter?"
Twilight's eyes locked on him and she stared as if he were incredibly ignorant. "The letter about my last lesson in friendship, I forgot to double check it and when I did, I forgot to post it and-" Her speech began faster and faster as she explained, eventually blurring into a series of unintelligble and terrified-sounding sounds.
"I'll send it for you, don't worry, Twilight." Spike offered, patting his mentally collapsing friend on the shoulder. "Where is it?"
Twilight heaved for breath, before sputtering, "On...my desk...papers..." Spike had heard enough, leaving the unicorn to collect herself as he made to send the letter. He returned to find Twilight at the table, looking considerably worse for wear as she rested her head in a hoof, eyes heavy.
"There, I sent them." His declaration caught the purple unicorn's attention. Them?
She was quick to brush it off, attributing it to a slip of the tongue. "Thanks, Spike."
*~*~*
Twilight closed her eyes. She allowed the air to tickle her coat as she breathed deeply, listening to the rustling of leaves above her. Ponyville lay spread in front of the unicorn's place under the tree, laying quiet like a sleeping giant. Twilight felt the blades of grass around her caress her hooves, reveling in their gentleness as the light breeze moved them.
The night was still, warm and comfortable, a light breeze ruffling the foliage now and again. Twilight felt so comfortable, leaning against the tree. Its roots hugged her tightly, like a mother hugging her filly so long ago. She bathed in the moonlight as the unicorn allowed the warmth of the evening to penetrate her, heating her from the inside out. Twilight's mind fuzzed and blurred, drifting along like a skiff on a calm sea.
The shores of sleep lazily approached in the distance as Twilight faded. Suddenly, her mind betrayed her, once again filling with thoughts of Princess Luna. Twilight kept her eyes squeezed shut, unwilling to look at the moon that illuminated her. Twilight ended, like every time, at the same conclusion; Luna could never love her.
Twilight hated herself indescribably much as a tear escaped her intensely squeezed eyes, and she forced herself to open them. As always, her eyes locked on the moon, and she lost contact with the world around her, engulfed completely and flawlessly in its silvery glow.
"It's beautiful, is it not?" A voice cut through the complete silence, soft and gentle as a flower petal, yet strong as a seasoned warrior.
Twilight almost collapsed in on herself as she turned to search for the source of the sound. She didn't have to look far; another pony had come to make her company, taking a place alongside her, underneath the great tree.
Blue on deeper blue, a flowing, celestial mane falling over starry eyes in which it seemed the heavens themselves were reflected, both orbs locked on Twilight's. Two midnight blue wings were folded on her back, complimented by a long dark horn rising majestically from behind a small black tiara. Luna sat perched between the roots, right next to Twilight, right now, as Twilight's breath came in short gasps.
"Princess, I-" Twilight began, tripping over her own words and unceremoniously wiping her tears from her lashes. She sighed and gave up on an explanation; Luna did not seem to require one anyway. The unicorn simply leaned back. "Yes, it's very beautiful."
Both ponies admired the orb above them, bathing the landscape in its soft luminescence. Luna spoke again, breaking the dreamlike state Twilight was sure she was in. "It is nice here. Is this why you come here, Twilight Sparkle?"
Twilight broke her gaze at the moon and turned to the alicorn, who kept her head turned to the sky. "Yes, I find it very relaxing." She spoke quietly. Luna nodded in understanding, her eyes not leaving the silvery orb.
Luna sighed, finally looking at the purple unicorn. "I was stranded there for one thousand years." Twilight certainly knew it to be true. Luna continued, "It is not so beautiful on the surface." She gave a tiny smile, alleviating some of the pressure in the air. Despite the princess's little joke, Twilight could see a sadness in her eyes, as deep and mysterious as the depths of the sea.
Twilight smiled, humoring the haunted princess. Luna leaned back once more, locking again on the moon, seemingly losing herself in thought. As Twilight did the same, a stiffening silence spread between the two, thickening and hardening with inexplicable sadness that ran through the unicorn's insides like a welling river.
"I am so sorry, Twilight Sparkle." Twilight looked back at the princess in bewilderment. She felt her heart tie itself into a tight knot as a silvery tear spilled from the rim of Luna's eye, still staring ahead of her at the moon.
Luna closed her eyes, her head still facing the sky, squeezing them as a few more silver tears followed, landing with gentle pats of her silken coat. Twilight wanted nothing more than to take her, cover the broken princess with her arms, brush her mane and promise her that everything would be alright.
Luna moved suddenly, acting on indescribable impulse. She tilted her head down to the purple unicorn and closed the distance between them. Twilight's mind stopped moving, the entire universe held in suspense as the two filly's lips met.
Twilight was unable to comprehend what was transpiring. Luna, strong, all-powerful, was now kissing just an ordinary unicorn, as gently as a summer breeze, or, in Luna's case, the sunset. Twilight felt warmth rush to her extremeties, and she had to consciously remind herself to keep breathing as their tongues danced together.
Luna pulled away. "Pardons, Twilight Sparkle, I don't...I don't know what came over me." She stammered, blushing like a filly. It was incredible to Twilight to see a goddess before her, reduced to the same embarrassed, hormonal filly she herself was. She felt a new kind of connection to the princess grow, one with which the unicorn was unfamiliar with, though welcomed.
"N-no, it's not-" Twilight began, but cut herself off. She decided to do something brash, something she may regret heavily, but something completely worth it. In a swift motion, Twilight was over the princess, pressing her lips to hers once more, in a kiss much more fiery than the first had been. Surprisingly, the princess didn't push away, or squeal; in fact, she did nothing at all.
Luna was locked in a fierce internal struggle. She had experienced countless wonderful things in her long life, though one experience has eluded her. As her sister reminded her, they were princesses, they had responsibilities, and an entire kingdom depending on their protection. There was simply no time to engage in frivolous acts, such as this, in a princess's life.
The lunar princess was, after all, a pony, immortal royalty or not. She had needs, she had urges that she always put off, always putting the kingdom before her own happiness. For once, it wouldn't be so. With that, Princess Luna made her first irresponsible decision since her return as Nightmare Moon. She let go.
(*Mature scene starts here, skip if you want to*)
Twilight was beginning to worry about the princess's lack of reaction, before Luna solidified her resolve and pushed back into the small purple filly. A wave of relief swept over Twilight as she returned to her kiss with twice the vigor.
Luna gasped into the fiery passion of the embrace, with Twilight standing above her, pressing her lips hard against her own, their tongues entwined. For her second kiss ever, she swallowed herself in the feeling, enjoying the warmth of the unicorn above her.
Twilight responded to the kiss just as intensly as the princess, moaning quietly as she ran her tongue along the inside of Luna's mouth. A feeling of boldness driven by lust engulfed her senses and she pushed harder into the princess.
Luna, though inexperienced in all things sexual, had always been in power, whether as a hero or as a villain. Being utterly helpless, beneath Twilight felt, while alluring, wrong. With a beat of her powerful wings, the princess flipped the two of them so that she now held the position of power, reconnecting their lips. Twilight squeaked at the suddenness of the flip, but was quieted when she felt the princess's lips sink down on her own once more.
Luna felt an unfamiliar tingle between her haunches, strange, but in no way unpleasant. She continued out of pure instinct, and let the flawed, mortal side of her take the reigns. Without thinking, the young princess began to gyrate her hips against Twilight, sending ripples of unfamiliar pleasure through her insides. She gasped at the feeling into the unicorn's mouth, who arched upwards.
Twilight felt herself moisten, growing wetter than she ever had in her life. The unicorn herslf wasn't very experienced sexually either, though she had tried out a few things at the tip of her own hoof before. But this, THIS was unlike anything else, easily overtaking those nights when Spike was over at a slumber party with the CMC.
Her loins aching, Twilight was desperate to speed things along. Taking advantage of her temporary boldness, she remembered what felt good for herself and-
Luna squealed in a very cute, very non-immortal-goddess/princess way, sounding just like every other filly. "My goodness, Twilight Sparkle, whatever you are doing, please continue!" Twilight obliged, moving her hoof a little faster against Luna's wet marehood, searching for the spot of ultimate pleasure near the top. When the purple hoof came in contact with the swollen pearl, Twilight thought Luna had already finished from the moans and squeals she was giving.
As Twilight traced circles around her dripping marehood, Luna's mind shut down as her world was replaced by only one thing: pleasure. Sparks of electricity singed her nerve endings as the pleasure increased, building up to something, something huge.
Twilight wasn't going to end it so quickly; her own marehood had been dripping for a while now, making quiet pats as each droplet of arousal spilled over and hit the earth. She moaned; this was so perfect, she was here, under the moonlight, with the mare she was so in love with, and far enough away that nopony in Ponyville could hear them.
With a daring push, Twilight turned the both of them on their axis again, taking her place on top. Luna did not object this time, wanting only for the unearthly pleasure to continue. Twilight's sex burned from arousal, mirroring the blush on her cheeks as she pushed down on Luna, connecting their marehoods.
The feeling of their clits rubbing against each other was overwhelming for the two previously virginal ponies, who released simultaneous cries of pleasure. Twilight was gasping, her tongue lolling out slightly, unable to contain her moans, while Luna's eyes were shut impossibly tight, squealing in the most adorable, uncharacteristic way.gan
As soon as Twilight began to move her hips, the air was already filled with high pitched moans from two ponies being pleasured beyond reckoning. Soon, each one of Twilight's thrusts were being matched in pace by Luna's, and neither filly could hold on any longer.
Luna exploded into stars, blinded by her orgasm as it hit her like a lunar tidal wave. Every conscious thought was whisked into a swirl of colors as she let out a long, unbroken cry that pierced through the night. Adrenaline pulsed through her veins as each contraction came with a squirt of fluid that matted both of their coats.
Twilight released almost simultaneously, burying her head into Luna's mane as she came. Moan after moan spilled from Twilight as her universe blasted into a supernova of sensation. She barely registered a torrent of arousal as it came out of her, splattering the earth below.
Silence swept over the two ponies as they lay in the wake of their orgasms, breathing deeply, as Luna stroked Twilight's mane gently. After a few minutes, the two broke apart, leaning once again against the trunk of the great tree behind them.
(*End of mature scene, everything's clean from here*)
Twilight leaned her tired head against Luna's shoulder as question after question burned throughher mind. Pushing away her inner researcher, she settled on only one.
"How...how did you know?" Twilight asked, hoping for everything she was worth that the alicorn would understand what she meant.
Luna's blissful expression changed to one of sadness at the inquisition. With a flick of magic, she unveiled a letter, bound tightly in ribbon. Twilight recognized it immediately and stared at the lunar princess with wide eyes.
"I know you did not mean to send it to me, Twilight Sparkle." Luna spoke, softly as can be. "I am glad you did."
Twilight took the letter, grasping it tightly in her mouth as she leaned into Luna, who continued, "I have always cared for you, Twilight, always." She lowered her voice, dripping with agony. "But, we can... we can..."
Twilight did not have to hear any more; she couldn't. She'd been over the scenario a hundred times in her head, and already knew how the story ended. Immortal goddess and very mortal, flawed unicorn; they could never be.
Luna could never love her.
*~*~*
A large, strong dragon pulled a cloak over his shoulders as he made to leave. With a glance at the weather outside, he had decided it was far too cold to leave without putting something on.
"Spike, is that you?" A pretty voice called from the other room, before an even prettier older unicorn walked out to meet the dragon. "Sweetheart, where are you going in this weather? It's positively pouring!"
Spike smiled as he addressed his wife in a deep but gentle voice. "I think I'll just pay Twilight a visit." He explained to Rarity, who nodded and smiled, before reaching up to give her husband of many years a kiss on the cheek.
"Just be back in time for dinner, and- oh yes! Sweetie Belle sent a pair of tickets for us and the kids to go to her next show!" She smiled, thinking of her sister, the very famous Belle, singer known across Equestria. She'd always known the little filly would one day grow to achieve great things.
"Count on me, dear." Spike said as he left, waving to his wife, who he'd always loved so dearly.
A little bakery approached in the distance through the sleet, emblazoned with the familiar sign above reading "Pinkie's Sugar Rush". A bell tolled merrily as Spike entered, almost doubling over in an effort to make it through the door.
An eccentric and frizzy-haired pony greeted him upon entering. "Hiya Spike! What can I help you with?" She asked cheerfully, wearing her eternal smile.
"Hey Pinkie, just need to get a few things... One daffodil and daisy sandwich, please!" He asked, grinning at his longtime friend, who busied herself on the order immediately.
In a flash, a neatly packed box was before him. The dragon reached to pay, but was stopped shorted by the baker. "Visiting Twilight?" She asked.
"Oh, yes, I figured she would like that." Came the reply. Pinkie pushed his bits back, smiling widely.
"On the house. Anything for a friend!" She spoke happily, drawing a smile from Spike.
"Thanks a lot, Pinkie!" He said, waving to his friend as he left.
With a handful of flowers from Fluttershy's Flower Shoppe, Spike set off once more, leaving Ponyville far behind him as he went. A small precipice came into view, and the agile dragon climbed it with ease, quickly making his way to the top. A flat, grassy surface greeted him, upon which an ancient oak tree grew.
"Hey Twilight!" Said Spike, joining his friend under the tree and pushing her the boxed sandwich. "This is for you, I know it's your favorite!" Spike leaned against the trunk, making himself comfortable next to his friend.
"So Sweetie Belle- oh sorry, she likes to be called Belle nowadays, haha- has got a new show coming up, Rarity and me are gonna take the kids, they'll love it." He began, chuckling, "Plus, Rainbow Dash sent a couple tickets our way too, you know, the perks of being captain of the Wonderbolts; I'm really looking foreward to that one."
He leaned into Twilight, who listened patiently, before continuing. "And of course Applejack's going to be there, Rainbow and her have always been inseperable, they have such an enviable relationship." He laughed to himself, thinking of his incredible family. "Of course, so do I."
Looking down, a piece of paper caught his eye. Stuck between the roots of the tree, the scrap looked as though it had been there for years, muddy and torn. Spike gently picked it up with a claw, before seeing a faded word at the bottom of the note.
'With love, Twilight Sparkle.'
Spike clenched the note tightly at the writing of his mentor's and lifelong friend's name, fresh tears welling in his eyes for the first time in several years. He allowed them to fall, wetting the earth below.
Choosing not to read the rest of the note, the dragon ran a claw over the cool gray surface of Twilight's headstone, sheltered underneath the tree, overlooking the city. He delicately tucked the note into the earth of her grave, along with the daisies from Fluttershy. With a last look at the majestic engraved stone on the hill, Spike left, leaving a weathered piece of paper flapping gently in the wind, its words faded by years and earth, though still readable.
'Dear Luna,
You will never be mine, but I will be forever yours.
With love, Twilight Sparkle.'
