There Is No End Of Me
Just An Old Unicron
Load Full StoryNext ChapterStar Waltz, just an old unicron who lives alone in his house in Mustangia. Once an aspiring scientist, now a insane hermit. Ponies say that when gray streaks started to show in his mane and creases in his skin formed, he retired and locked himself in his house. He keeps his house in shape and uses his retirement funds to pay his taxes, so he is not officially classified for insanity by the state. Mustangia is a good size town around the size of Ponyville. Everypony knows each other. Star Waltz has lost his family under the flow of time. He had friends, but he abandoned them. The only time anypony ever sees him is when he gets food from the market. When he is out the house he never talks outside of incorhearnet mumbles under his breath. He passes by everypony as if they don't exist. Star Waltz, just an old unicorn who lives a sad existence. Or is he?

How the old days were so grand. The days when his bones didn't ache, when his mane was its most black, when his coat was bright red and smooth. Now his mane has grayed and his coat has dulled. His skin is starting to wrinkle. His parents have passed away and brother took his foals and moved to Fillydelphia. He never was interested in relationships. Now he's too old for mares. He was a scientist, but never did nothing of note. The blue beaker he has for cutie mark had never pulled through for him. Now he had to retire for his green eyes are failing him and he can't properly read his scrolls without aid. Now death is the only thing left for him.
So is the poor existence of Star Waltz. He is on the road to destruction and ruin. The salt on the wound is that he knows nopony will care. Nopony will remember him. Not everypony can leave a legacy like Starswirl The Bearded. Five hundred years down the drain and only about twenty years expected to be left. It wouldn't be so bad if he could be sure about what happens after death. Internal bliss in the sun, being a foal and playing on Luna's playground on the moon, reincarnation, or nothing but expiration. The former two are very desirable. Reincarnation is not ideal. The fact that he would go through growing up again is bone chilling for him. What would he come back as? A poor pony? Will he have disabilities? Will he change genders? Will he come back as a pony? Or even an intelligent creature? He will never see his family again. Though, it's still better than simply expiring. The alicorn sisters never confirmed or denied any of these theories. They say they won't speak on matters they haven't experienced. If only he knew.
Over the years, he grew to resent the only thing he hates, time. The flow of time to be precise. Everything grows old and is forgotten under its withering flow. Time shouldn't be a currency, but that's how one must treat it as. He has to spend his time wisely. He can't afford to talk with others when he gets food from the market. Everypony wants to waste his time with pointless questions. "How you doing," "How has your day been," "You feeling okay," "You feeling dapper?" are self answering, so what's the point in asking? They should see what he's feeling like by how miserable he looks. Why should they care? They should have lives to live on their own. Why bother him? It's not like he can get more time to spend. There are age spells, but to hire somepony to cast it would cost as much to rent out a guest suite in Canterlot Castle for his remaining life. Something only Fancy Pants and Filthy Rich can afford. Can't get it for free either. He's not a national hero like Princess Twilight's friends. He has no divine lineage like Prince Blueblood or Shining Armor. To cast it himself would take decades of study and centuries of practice. Time he dosen't have. However, he can invest his time.
Time has taken much from him, but he still has one thing left. He still has his mind. Alzheimer's has yet to settle in, but it will eventually. He knows the perfect way to invest in his remaining time. He has heard stories of a world where Princess Twilight Sparkle had traveled to, twice. There are stories that there are higher powers that be present in that world. Perhaps he can contact one and gain more time. Maybe all the time he can ever need or want. He might have to do something in turn, but how hard can it be? It's not like he has anything to lose. What he is doing is the equivalent of spending you last bit on a lottery ticket for a shot at the jackpot. Other than taxes or food, he has been buying materials for his contraption. He heard small details on how Twilight built an artificial portal to the other world. He has been in his basement trying to reconstruct her design. He now has a similar machine. With some more adjustments, he can go directly to the power's realm directly.
He spent the better part of five years working on finding where this power resides. Finally, he thinks he found it. He starts up the machine and the oval metal ring filled with swirling purple magic energy. He looks back at his basement lab and takes in his last breath in Equestria. With his most firm posture, he trots through.
