Finding Home

Home is, I suppose, just a child's idea. A house at night, and a lamp in the house. A place to feel safe.

V. S. Naipaul

“So, what are we going to do about the girl?” Luna asked the question that weighed heavily on Twilight’s mind.

Twilight sighed. “I’m not sure really. But until the storm passes, we’ll keep her here then figure out what to do.” she looked at her cup of tea.

Zecora was about to speak when the door to the kitchen let out aloud squeak as was pushed open and some tumbled in.

All eyes turned towards the Stormrider. She was wearing a simple light blue night gown, her white and gray tipped wings sticking out a bit. Her shoulder length golden copper hair fanned out in front of her. Luna slowly got up to help the Stormrider. “Are you alright my child?”

The Stormrider looked up to see a lightly sun kissed outstretched hand to help her up. She followed the lightly sun-kissed arm up to the one that had offered them help. They wore a simple navy-blue dress and cloak as dark as the night itself. Ash Wing’s amber eyes meet the soft and kind Teal eyes of the Princess of the night. “Is something wrong?” Luna broke the silence between them.

The Stormrider shook her head to clear the fog from it. She slowly got herself up with Luna’s help. “I’m just a bit surprised to see you here Princess Luna.”

Luna studied the Stormrider quietly for a moment. “What is your name young one?”

“Ash Wing your grace.” bowing slightly out of habit.

“There is no need for formalities here. Would like to join us for some tea Ash Wing.” Luna grabbed an extra cup from the cabinet and started to pour some tea into it.

“I....” Ash wing was about to refuse but realized that it was not a question. “I believe I will.”

“Very good my dear. Please have a seat next to Miss Zecora.” Luna gently placed the cup of tea in front of the open seat next to Zecora. Ash Wing takes her seat and gently holds her cup of tea.

“I am happy to see that you are awake and among the living Miss Ash Wing.” Zecora smiles softly.

“Thanks, but I feel like I got hit by a train.” Ash Wing nodded her head and takes a sip of her tea. Hints of sweet lemongrass, soft chamomile and gentle lavender. Helped to calm her nerves a bit.

“Well, you did have half of an oak tree fall on you. But you are tougher than you look.” Twilight studied Ash Wing a bit more intensely.

Ash Wing looked at Twilight with the same look her eyes “What's your name?”

“It’s Twilight... Just Twilight.” Twilight lamented, fidgeting a bit uncomfortable that she had to keep her family a secret. So she act independently without attracting unwanted attention.

Ash Wing broke her gaze from Twilight to look around at the others at the table. “So, what brings. A famous Sargent, The Princess of the night and, a wild car together on such a stormy night?”

All three of them wore neutral expressions and the room grew quiet, only the sounds of rain and thunder broke the since. “What brings an agent of the crown to act as a storm rider?” Twilight stared at Ash wing while she took a sip of her tea.

Ash Wing narrowed her eyes to malevolent slits as she leaded forward her body tensing like a coiled spring “How do you know that.”

“Luckily guess.” Twilight smirked and acted coyly

Ash Wing carefully moved her hand to her leg. “Your knife isn't their Ash Wing.” Twilight placed Ash Wing’s knife and its sheath on the table.

“She means you no harm you Ash Wing. Also, Twilight be nice.” Luna gave each woman a stern look. To which both shied away from Luna's gaze.

“When did you take it?” Ash Wing sighed and slowly let herself uncoil.

“While was tending to your, injures. Also sorry for antagonizing you.” Twilight took another sip of her tea and handed Ash Wing her knife.

Ash Wing took her knife back and placed it on the medium oak stained table, next to her tea. She looked down at the bandages that were on her arms and legs. “It’s ok. Sorry for being hostile towards you. So why didn’t you use healing magic to fix me up?”

Luna stepped into the conversation once more “Twilight doesn’t have magic.” Twilight let her wings out a bit, so Ash Wing could see them. “Zecora doesn’t have her supplies with her.” Zecora nodded her head. “As for me I’m not good with healing magic. That’s more of my sister’s thing.”

Ash Wing blushed out of embarrassment “Oh I see. I had heard that Twilight was a part of the lunar guard. Since, I didn’t see her wings or other traits. I thought she was a mage.”

“She was a part of the Lunar guard. A very fine one at that. But alas she chose to retire and move here. I was planning on visiting her tonight and see, how she was doing. When I arrived, I found them pulling you two out from under the tree.” Luna looked down

Ash Wing’s amber eyes went as wide as dinner plates. She stood up fast and pain surged throughout her body. Her fast movements nearly caused the chair over and her as well. “Where’s the kid!”

“Easy now, she is ok. She asleep, in a room four doors from your room.” Twilight movements were soft and gentle like a mother. As she helped Ash Wing back into her chair. “You must take it easy. I patched you as well as I could, but your body needs time to heal. Rushing around like the way you are, won’t help.”

Ash Wing nodded her head and relaxed a bit more. “So, what was her name. She did not look like any of the kids from town.”

“Her name is Silvis Tansy. Truthy we were about to decide that, before you fell thought the door.” Zecora passed Ash Wing her Silvas file.

“Soo. What's the plan then?” Ash Wing put the file down looked around the table at Goddess of the night, A front line hero and a soft-spoken former Lunar guard.

“Since she is an orphan, We'll take her to the orphanage. Then see, if I could adopt her. By the looks of it she has been though a lot. I not may look the part or have as many issues. But the truth is that, I’m an orphan myself. I have an understand how she may be feeling.” Twilight said as sadness slowly crept into her deep violet eyes

Luna placed a hand on Twilight’s shoulder and gave her a soft smile. “I think that will be a good idea. You always talked about how you wanted to start a family. I’ll go with you and give my approval.”

A small smile graced, Twilight’s lips. “Thank you, Luna.”

“You know raising a kid is not easy alone.” Ash Wing looked at Twilight not thoroughly convinced that she could do it.

"Twilight won’t be doing it alone. I’ll help her where I can.” Zecora looked up from her tea.

Luna nodded her head “When I can, I’ll help as well.”

Ash wing looked confused “Excuse my brashness but, why are you helping Twilight in this endeavor, Princess?”

Luna blushed very lightly “I owe Twilight a lot so it just a way of thanking her and paying her back.”

Ash Wing was not convinced that was the only reasons Princess Luna had given her light blush. But expected it for now “Ok. Now Twilight can you tell me more about yourself?”

Over the next hour or two they talked about various things. Till sleep claimed Zecora and Ash Wing. Twilight with Luna’s help got two into their own beds.

After gently closing the doors, Twilight turned to Luna “Thank you.”

“It was my pleasure, my dear Twilight.” Luna smiled.

Twilight felt an old smile return to her lips and a warm feeling bubble up from her heart. She hugged Luna. “Thank you.”

Luna felt a bit of heat grace her cheeks as she returned the hug. Words could not describe how comforting it felt to hold Twilight. It felt as if the world had stopped and all was quiet. “Maybe” Both women thought as they embraced each other.

…..

The strong wind howled as the front was open and then pushed with a tremendous might closed. Applejack light sigh of relief as she hung her rain-soaked jacket on the hooks in the hallway and kicked her boots off.

She made her way into the living room and stopped at the door. She smiled looking into the room.

There on the couch Spitfire sat gently stroking Applebloom’s hair. While bathed in the warm glow of the slowly dying fire from the fireplace. Applejack smiled and quietly walked over to Spitfire and kissed her on the cheek. Spitfire smiled and looked at Applejack “Everything okay out there?” she whispered

“Yeah, it’s all good.” Applejack replied and added another log to the fire and stoke it back to life. She moved back to the couch and sat down next to her wife. “Better now that I'm with you.” Spitfire giggled a little and Applebloom stirred a little. “She all, right?” Applejack looked down at her little sister.

“Yes, she was scared by the lighting.” Spitfire counted to gently stroke Applebloom’s hair “How are you doing?”

Applejack shook her head and her hands shaking a little “I’m not... it’s...”

Spitfire lovingly kissed Applejack “It’s ok to scared and uneasy.”

“it’s just each clash of lighting and thunder... I get these broken memories, fragments of what happened. The pain of it all.” cold tears slowly rolled down Applejack's checks.

A warm gently warm hand tenderly wiped away the tears that adorned Applejack’s face. Before warm long well-toned arms and wings warped her into a warm loving embrace. “It will be ok Jackie. I’m here for you always.” Applejack broke into silent sobs as she buried her face into spitfire’s shoulder. Spitfire and applejack fell asleep in each other’s arms.

The storm raged on, and the fire had died down once more. A load clash of thunder roared through the Apple family home rattling vast amounts of family photos.

Applebloom a woke in a cold sweat at the sound of the thunder. She looked around the room as her breathing slowed down. Applejack and Spitfire were both asleep in each other’s arms. She took her blanket and gently laid it over the two. She went over to the fireplace, added two logs and stoked the fire. The shadows slowly receded as the fire grew. After a bit Applebloom got up and walked silently back to her room “I’ll talk to Applejack tomorrow about it.”

…..

The once howling winds are now light and calm. The bone chilling rain is now warm tender sun light. Once dark looming clouds are white fluffy. Truthfully the only evidence there was a storm where the broken limbs of trees, the slightly damaged houses and the gentle coolness in the air.

Many the town residents were already started assessing the damage and had begun cleanup efforts.

“Last night was quiet the storm.” Trixie commented as they walked through the town center.

“Yes, it was. Poor Opal the darling was running around night.” Rarity sighed and continued to ramble.

Trixie shook her head. “The only one running around last night was you.” Trixie kissed fiancée who stopped rambling. Rarity was a bit surprised by the kiss as her mind came to a screeching halt. “Was I rambling again?”

Trixie nodded her head. “I’m Sorry darling.” Rarity blushed in embracement.

Trixie warped her arms around Rarity “It’s ok Hun. As you’re here to help me stay leveled, I'm here to help you when your’ anxiety gets to be too much.”

Rarity nodded her head “II..thankyou my dear. I Wonder how Twilight faired throughout the storm.”

“She did just fine. Even if that storm was not benign.” Trixie and Rarity turned around to see Zecora walking towards them.

“Ah Zecora good to see you dear.” Rarity replied with a kind smile.

“I was asked by Twilight to give you this letter.” Zecora hands Rarity the letter. “Now I Must be on my way. I must see what has happened to my home.” Zecora resumed down the path towards her home.

Rarity gently opened the letter. “What does it say?” Trixie asked as she tried to read the letter over her lover’s shoulder.

“Twilight has invited us over for tea later this evening at her new home.” Rarity informed Trixie as she put the letter away in her purse. “We need to stop by the general store and pick a gift for Twilight.”

Trixie looked a bit confused “Why?”

“Because my dear it is the proper thing to do when someone invites you to their home.” Rarity replied with a gentle tone and one of understanding that her love was not use to these customs.

“That makes since now. My mother always had a gift bag with her when we went to other people's houses.” Trixie mused as she started walking once more. “So, what should we get her?”

“Let’s see what they have in the general store first then we will go from there.” Rarity smiled and let her hand intertwine with her loves hand. And lead them towards the general store.

Soft warm light slowly filtered into an off-cream color room bring out the hues of yellow that adorned the walls. A gentle warm, cool breeze flows through the open window quietly ruffling the floral white curtains.

Slowly the occupant’s eyes opened as the whispered song of birds lofted into the room. They slowly started moving around taking in their current location. “Where am I?” The girl thought as she slowly sat up wincing in pain.

As she continued to look around as set of polar blue eyes her own in a mirror on her vanity. She looked at the girl in a simple yet cute snow colored night gown. Her polar blue eyes trailed up awards to her sliver hair with stripes of light blue and light-yellow. In a quiet wisher as tears slowly rolled down her checks “That's not me?”
