The Obsession

A fleeting moment in time was all it was. Had it all started there? Twilight drifted back to her memories. Just when and how did all of this happen? Surely there was a piece of the puzzle she was missing that she failed to pick up on in the past. Every memory she could think back to ran through her mind, up from that initial moment. What had she missed? Where was the final piece that she needed!?

She'd stood on the end of a dirt path in-between two houses, on her way to Sugarcube Corner to meet Pinkie. The memory was focused solely on her, and one other individual not far from her. Twilight was purely focused on recalling the past now. She was telling herself a story, a story she had to figure out on her own. She would not let this go on any longer! She had to figure out what she was missing. The world around Twilight was white as the scene only focused on the two of them. Her, and a pony not far from her near a pile of trash while elevating a multitude of trash bags by herself. This pony was fairly younger and lacked all forms of emotion surprisingly.

Twilight was smiling, and she just continued to smile, and then, the action she'd committed next followed.

This was the beginning of everything. This is where it all began. She would not get lost in limbo again.

It was a gorgeous day in Ponyville, while Princess Twilight was on a simple stroll towards Sugarcube Corner. Another average day, nothing too special, and a good deed for the day would do her some good. She halted before a pony not far from her who was throwing away the trash. She raised a brow at this pony in fair curiosity before smirking to herself somewhat, using her own magic to help this pony throw their trash away seeing as she was using magic to carry an absurd amount of it. "Looks like you could use a little help there!"

The pony almost immediately eyed Twilight with a tired expression. Strangely enough, her color is what surprised the alicorn the most. She was a pale shade of blue, practically white but not enough in the sense. She had a darker mane of course, which almost reminded her of rain water, and her cutie mark was extremely weird. Twilight looked upon it, thinking at first it was a potato, but, what sort of potatoes were white and transparent? A glass potato? Still it didn't make much sense to her. The pony just continued to look at Twilight before speaking in a tone with little enthusiasm. "Um, thank you. Sorry if I was getting in the way of where you're going. I had to throw this all away."

Twilight chuckled a bit before cocking her head back, not offended in the slightest."H-Hey it's no problem! But um, I haven't seen you before, are you new here or just visiting? You seem fairly young. And what's with all this trash anyway? You just get done with a big project or something?" Twilight chuckled again as she was fairly troubled by the expression this pony wore. It was one of deep sadness, which concerned her of course. But she wasn't sure if it was her business to butt into the personal matters of some stranger she just met.

The pony looked to Twilight before shaking her head and peering down at the trash. "U-Um, just visiting. I'm gaining my apprenticeship in glass modeling. My name is Glass Mind." She slowly course her hoof from left to right in a gesture towards all the bags of trash. "I was visiting a friend away from my studies at school, but, sadly we're not friends anymore so, I'm getting rid of everything connected to her." The pony lowered her head as deep bags underlined her eyes while she remained focused on bitter memories. "She was my only friend sadly, but, I doubt she thought the same. She wanted nothing more to do with me, was mean to me, so, I guess I don't need friends like that." She sighed heavily as she sulked even further. "Maybe I'm not meant to have any friends. Maybe, some ponies are just meant to be alone."

Twilight placed a hoof upon her own chest as if making a serious declaration. "T-That's not true!"

The pony's eyes widened as she suddenly peered at Twilight in surprise.

Twilight continued persistently. "Y-You're not alone! Just because things didn't work out with one friend doesn't mean you can't make another! I'm sure you'd make a great friend! You seem nice enough! And you obviously care about your friendships enough for it to trouble you this much!" She bore a wide smile from cheek to cheek. "Why don't we go make up with this friend of yours! I'm sure she'd love that!"

The pony only gazed up at Twilight for a moment before nervously shifting her gaze to the lower right. "N-No, sadly that's not possible. She's gone now since she didn't like me so much." She sulked before frowning heavily. "I guess this was really the only way for it to end."

Twilight, obviously desperate to cheer her up just threw her head back again and smirked. "W-Well! Doesn't matter! In that case-"

The pony suddenly had a hoof placed on her head as she gazed up at Twilight again.

Twilight smiled softly and kindly at the pony. "I'll be your friend. How's that sound? Now you're not alone."

The pony remained silent as she just flushed red almost immediately before lowering her head and covering her face with a hoof. She began to mumble nervously, "T-Thank you. Um, t-thank you so much." She started to tremble as it was apparent she was also sobbing quietly to herself, rubbing her eyes a little as she did so. "Thank you, that means so much to me." She smiled up at Princess Twilight softly before baring an extremely hopeful and excited expression, as if extremely eager for the future. "M-May I get your name?"

Twilight's eyes suddenly snapped wide in shock at the fact the pony had no idea who she was. "O-Oh yea! Um, of course!" She gazed to her lower right a bit, a little irritated with herself that she was actually conceited enough to get surprised by such a thing. O-Oh get a grip Twilight! Who cares if not everypony knows you! I-It's not like Equestria revolves around your existence right!? But.... She looked back towards this smiling pony who never took her eyes off the alicorn from then on, and just continued to smile happily. It is a little strange, has she lived under a rock for the past few months? Did she not know Equestria was under attack by Tirek? Seriously surprising. "My name is Princess Twilight Sparkle, it's pleased to meet you officially Glass Mind. Let's be GREAT friends okay!?"

Glass Mind responded with hurried excited nods. "Oh thank you! Thank you so much Twilight Sparkle!"

Twilight hugged the mare again before rubbing the top of her head and turning around. "You don't have to thank me Glass Mind. I love making new friends and meeting new ponies! But hey, you should come to Sugarcube Corner later! I'm going to be meeting a couple of my other friends there. I'd love for you to meet them to!" Her expression brightened with a wide anxious smile.

Glass Mind's eyes widened herself as she appeared hesitant and nervous. "O-Other friends?"

Twilight nodded again at her. "Yeah, other friends! You'll love them! Well, see you later Glass Mind!" She then hurried off.

Glass Mind stood there for a moment as an affectionate smile crept onto her face as she blushed. "See you soon Twilight Sparkle."
