//-------------------------------------------------------// The time wanderer -by C T Lilly- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Meet the wanderer //-------------------------------------------------------// Meet the wanderer Rainbow dash ran up to her friends in excitement, she had just won the game for the soccer team. "Did you see me out there?! I was awesome!" She said. "Well I have to admit, that was impressive." A stranger said, he was sitting higher up on the bleachers. he had shoulder length hair, blue eyes, he was wearing a red, long sleeved, plad flannel shirt with khaki pants and black leather boots. "Um, not to be rude, but who are you?" Rainbow asked. "Ah yes, the eternal question, who are we? Are we just tiny specs on a floating peace of dust or do we have a purpose that's unknown." The stranger said with a smile. "That's not what I meant, I meant WHO are YOU." Rainbow said. "I'm a man with special gifts, abilities that allow me to see the most humbling sites in the universe, billions of years of history right at my finger tips. In short, I'm a time wanderer." "A time what?" "A time wanderer, an immortal/invincible man that can travel through time to learn about the universes past and future. What ever changes a time wanderer has made to a past event is undone once he leaves that time period. We can manifest whole dimension right next to your own and fill them with portals to all the different time periods. Some people call us living gods but I don't like being called that, it make us sound all mighty and perfect. But trust me, we are far from perfect." The stranger said. "But you can call me Chris." "Well, Chris, I don't believe that you can actually Travel through time." Rainbow said mockingly. "I figured you wouldn't, that's why I prepared this." Chris snapped his fingers and a rectangular shaped portal opened. Inside was a flat grass plains with more portals in a big ring. The sun was at high noon in this dimension, yet it was sundown in Canterlot. Rainbow and the group stepped inside. "What is this place?" Rainbow asked. "It's an alternate dimension, I call it my portal dimension. I have portals to go to every time period, era or epoch. It always stays noon here and the grass is very soft, care to lie down?" Chris said. Rainbow sat down and felt the grass, it felt soft to the touch and it smelled sweat. She flopped onto her back and put her arms behind her head. "That's not all, you can see some very gorgeous sights through these portals. If you follow me I can show you one such sight." Rainbow sat up. "What kind of sight?" Rainbow asked, Chris extended his hand to the currently sitting Rainbow dash. She took his hand and he helped her up. "Follow me." He said with a warm smile. He stepped through a portal and turned to face the girls. Behind him was a sunset, a rocky shore with still water, and small bubbling pools here and there. The way the sun glinted off of everything was magical. Chris knelt down near one of the bubbling pools of water. "We are in the Archean period, this is where the first life came to be. The first living things, micro organisms. And they currently thrive right here In this pool." Chris took a scoop of water in one hand and held it up to the girls, when the water was in his hand it seemed to magnify the tiny green organisms swimming against a blue back ground. "Now these guys aren't usually visible, but my abilities allow me to focus on them so you can see them swim in the water. It humbling to think that all life on earth came from these little guys." He slowly poorer the water out of his hand and back into the pool. "You have my blessing little ones." "Wow, your so humble for a guy that can do all that." Applejack said. "Not to mention kind to all living things." Fluttershy said. "I find all life is beautiful and precious, each living thing is more valuable then a diamond to me. I find it so inspiring that in such a harsh world, these fragile creatures came to be. Not many people know how the first life forms were made. It was the right amount of elements creating the perfect number of chemical reactions all bundled together. And this is just the tip of the iceburg." Chris said. "Why did you show us this?" Rainbow asked. "Well I have a goal you see, it's not a bad goal, it's actually very noble. You see, most human beings go about their day thinking about themselves as if they are the center of the universe, my goal is to get people to see things the way I see them. To make them see that you can't put a price on things that are essential to live, or put a price on other living things. To show that we are infinitesimal specs compared to the universe around us, and that we need to appreciate even the smallest of things. As well as the biggest, because nothing lasts forever. There is a start and an end to everything, even the universe. The universe is violent and peaceful at the same time. Millions of stars go super nova each day, but from the gasses, baby stars will slowly form. the peaceful ness of the colors and the slow ballet of the ever spinning cosmos in the silence of space. That may sound pretty, but trust me, that doesn't even come close to describing the majesty of it all. That is why I'm so humble." Chris said. There was a sniff that came from Fluttershy. "That was, so beautiful." She said. "Wow, I never thought of anything that way before." Rainbow said. "Well I wouldn't expect you to, you haven't seen everything that I have yet. There's no shame in admitting your flaws, and there's no shame in being intelligent or athletic or kind or hard working. But we should never be ashamed of how much we know, information is priceless and very useful when you find your self in a sticky situation." Chris said. "We should head back to the soccer field, people might be wondering where you are." Chris led them out of the portal room and onto the soccer field. With a snap of his fingers the portal closed. "Thank you for your time Chris." Sunset said. "No problem, if anyone decides they want to see more ill show you what I think you'll be interested in. But that will have to wait for now, you will likely find me at sugarcube corner when you wish to go on an adventure through the universe. //-------------------------------------------------------// The wanderer and sunset //-------------------------------------------------------// The wanderer and sunset "So where are we going today Chris?" Sunset asked. "We are going to multiple different periods in time, so I can show you a pattern I think you'll like. After all, you're more of a hands on person." Chris said, he took sunset by the hand and pulled her through a portal. They ended up in a vast green jungle with vines, shrubs and trees. "Woah, what is this place." Sunset said. "This is the Carboniferous period. They period where life on land really starts to take hold. Come here for a second." Chris said, he was knelt down near a fern bush. He pulled a sten with a series of leaves on it off of the fern and placed it in sunsets hands. "This stem has 55 leaves on it, now that may not be interesting at first. But there are a series of numbers called the Fibonacci numbers, 55 is one such number. It starts at 1, then it goes to 2, then 3 but it gets a little weird after that. After that there's 5, 8, 13, 21, 34 and then 55 and it keeps going. There are small details in every living thing that contain the Fibonacci numbers. You can also find pie in anything as well, and I don't mean the food. I mean the number pie, do you see the pattern yet?" Chris said with a smile. "Yeah, I think I do." Sunset said. "What is the pattern then?" Chris asked. "Numbers and mathematics are in everything, just like they are in science." Sunset said. "Correct, do you know what that means?" Chris asked, sunset just shrugged. "It means that math is what our creator used to set these patterns and universal laws. Math is basically the code to the universe, math can predict millions of out comes that come from just one scenario. The only thing that math can't explain, is why black black holes do what they do." Chris said with a smile. "Why can't it explain black holes? Aren't black holes part of reality?" Sunset asked. "Yes and no, a black hole is a tear in the fabric of the universe. It's like taking a pencil and pushing it through a piece of paper. It's a gap in existence, do you know how black holes are formed?" Chris asked. "No, how?" Sunset asked. "Basically, a star like our sun does a little process called hydrogen fusion. That process creates millions of atomic explosions every second. Now, the reason why a star doesn't just keep expanding is because the core and the gases still have mass. So Gravity is pushing in, fusion is pushing out. When it runs out of hydrogen to fuse, gravity becomes really immense. So immense that something the size of our sun gets compressed down to something the size of canterlot. Now the matter was already as tightly packed as it could get when fusion was going on. So it basically breaks the laws of physics and pushes it self so small that it pokes a hole in reality. But unlike the paper, the universe is in 3 dimensions. So the black hole is basically a 3 dimensional hole in the universe. Anything that goes in no longer exists, so it's essentially perminately destroyed. But it's a universal law that you can completely destroy matter, yet a black hole does it. So a black hole technically exists and doesn't exist at the same time." "Where does the matter go though?" Sunset asked. "Well, there are some theories that the matter is destroyed but then reassembled to be identical to the matter from another universe. But that's only if there is another universe on the other side of a black hole to begin with. If there is no such universe on the other end then the matter just stops existing. That's why math falls apart, it does things that shouldn't be possible. For instance, in can consume millions of tons of material but never grow in size. It's only when two black holes merge that it grows in size." Chris said. "Wait, black holes can merge?" Sunset asked. "Yep. Unlike a hole in a piece of paper, a black hole isn't stationary. So they can move around and when they meet they turn into a bigger black hole. Are you seeing my lesson here?" "Yes, I am. Your lesson is that math is everywhere and in everything. It can tell us why things happen or different ways that things could happen. Is that about it?" Chris was starring blankly at sunset, he blinked a few times. "Yes, that is exactly it. I was kind of expecting you to leave a part of it out, leaving me to explain the rest." Chris said. "Yep, well you more or less just taught me how to analyze every out come. So I predicted you would do that." Sunset said. "Well, well, well, someone is going on my list of great students." Chris said with a smile. "I try." "Well let's go, you'll have to excuse me if we start going on to the next time period quicker then the one before. I have minor ADD so I get bored very quickly." Chris said. "Hey, it's fine with me. So long as it doesn't get to the point where we're only in each time period for a second before you move on." Sunset said. "Great, well in that case." Chris stepped aside and gestured to the portal. "Ladies first."
