first steps
Previous ChapterCHAPTER 2: First steps
After running for awhile, Dash found himself in the Everfree forest. He decided to find out what a Charmander looked like, since he never really studied specific pokemon, only the types and moves. He removed the pokeball from his saddle bag and pressed the small button in the middle, causing it to grow to its normal size. A second press of the button caused it to open and release a small, golden, reptilian creature.
The small creature looked up at Dash and said “hello, I am Charmander, and I’m guessing that you are my new owner?”
“Yep! Wow, I never knew Charmander were gold colored!” Dash exclaimed joyfully.
“Well most of us aren’t, for the most part we are orange, but I am what’s known as a ‘shiny’ pokemon. A very rare breed that is differently colored than the norm.” the Charmander said with pride.
“That is so cool! Oh, and is it alright if I call you ‘slayer’?” Dash asked.
“I would prefer being called by my species name, but since you are my owner you may call me whatever you want.” Charmander explained.
“Well I certainly don’t want to annoy my first pokemon with a name it doesn’t want, so I guess I will just call you Charmander for now.” Dash said.
With that they went deeper into the forest, and they noticed that the sun was going down so they set up camp. As they slept that night, Dash dreamed of a place of insanity, death, and chaos. It was not a chaos like that of Discord; it was a dark chaos, with nothing but suffering and sadness inside.
Where am I? Dash thought. He saw before him a desecrated city, full of fallen royal guard, soaked in blood. He saw shadows that moved faster than light, and a gargantuan creature that could only be described as horrifying. It was humanoid, with giant claws at the end of its hands, huge demonic wings sprouting from its back, and its writhing tentacles coming straight from where its mouth should be, and to top it all off, it was colored a sickening green like that of toxic waste.
The creature seemed to speak to Dash. It was in an insane language that Dash could not understand. He felt that this thing was ancient beyond belief, and that it was a great evil that should never have existed. As soon as the beast was finished speaking, a horde of ponies that had bulging, fishlike eyes came from the shadows, and slowly came towards Dash. Just as they were about to close in on Dash, he awoke.
He was panting heavily; he noticed that he was sweating. What was that? Dash thought, unsure what to make of the dream. Well… it was a mere nightmare. I better get to sleep so Charmander and I can train tomorrow. And so, Dash went back to sleep.
The next morning, Dash woke up to see Charmander looking through his saddle bags. “Don’t look in those!” Dash exclaimed.
Hearing this, Charmander took her head out of the saddle bag.
“I just wanted to have some breakfast” Charmander explained.
“Okay, I’ll make something for us” Dash said, sounding very tired.
After eating breakfast Dash decided it was time for some training, so the two went off looking for something to fight. After three hours of wandering around and finding absolutely nothing to fight, they sat down to rest their legs. “Damn it! This is a forest! It should be crawling with pokemon to fight!” Dash said angrily.
While the two are sitting they see something move in the shadows.
“What was that?” Charmander asked. Then, a young Pegasus came out of the shadows. “Hello! I see you have a pokemon, wanna battle?” the young Pegasus asked.
“Umm, sure!” Dash said.
“Alright, but I’ll have you know that my Rattata is in the top percentage of Rattata!” the youngster said with a smile.
“Go, Rattata!” the youngster said as he threw a pokeball, releasing the Rattata.
“Are you ready for this Charmander?” Dash asked.
“When you are!”
The two pokemon got into battle position, awaiting their master’s orders. “Charmander, use scratch!” immediately Charmander ran at the Rattata to attack it with sharpened claws.
The Rattata attempted to dodge but wasn’t fast enough and was hit in a critical area, causing its blood to flow from the small wound in its side. “Oh crap! Rattata, use tackle!” the Rattata ran at Charmander with all its might, but Charmander swiftly dodged the attack and delivered a second scratch attack.
With that attack, the youngsters Rattata fainted and Dash won the battle. “What?! How did you beat my Rattata?” the youngster was not very happy about his loss. He recalled the pokemon into its pokeball and gave Dash the reward money.
“Wait, I get money for winning? That is awesome! You did great Charmander!”
“Thanks! That Rattata wasn’t very tough though.”
The youngster then left to heal his pokemon, while Dash and Charmander talked to one another about their victory.
