Chapter 1- Darkness Reigns
Chapter 1- *It Begins*

Authors Notes- Hello fellow readers :D, I am new to writing but I will try my best to provide a great story for you all. Also this chapter is describing the character, Odie so it's in his veiw, next ones aren't
Equestria. The world where everything is peaceful. How is it that there is no evil in Equestria? Well, let me tell you the old weathering tale of The Nightmare. No not the creature that possessed Princess Luna. That was only the subconscious off spring of this creature. The true Nightmare is a creature that was created along with Equestria, to hold all of the evil and unkindness that Equestria would of had. No pony knows why this happened, some say it was the will of the world, others say it wanted to be its own entity, away from all the kind and peacefulness that Equestria has and is.
The Nightmare did not get its wish for it was bound to the world as they were created together. When the nightmare was born it waded through the world waiting for a being to control. Soon after ponies started to appear, the nightmare waited for the right time to cause the most chaos that was all it wanted, to bring hell to the world it was forever shackled to. The Nightmare went from pony to pony, trying to disturb the peace within civilization. It took hold of ponies it saw fit. After a short while, the townsfolk caught on to what was happening, and exiled the ponies that were corrupted.
This went on for centuries, until the two princesses came to rule Equestria; the townsfolk went to them pleading to vanquish the Nightmare. They looked everywhere for it, but while they thought it was hiding, it was waiting. When they found it, it was in an old dying stallion, they saw it as harmless in its current state, but right then it dispelled itself from the old stallion and went for the one thing it wanted, power.
The Nightmare lunged for the most powerful being in Equestria, Princess Celestia, but Princess Luna through herself in front o her older sister. The only way Princess Celestia could save her younger sister was to banish her to the moon until she found the power necessary to destroy the Nightmare. And you know the part to where a little mare finds the power of friendship and uses it to "relocate" the Nightmare for that is what it did; it relocated to the being that it came from the real Nightmare. What controlled princess Luna was only a small fraction of the true Nightmare. After Princess Celestia sent her sister to the moon, it went to look for a suitable body to wait for the return of its other half.

The dawn after the nightmare's offspring is back
I've had this feeling of “darkness" inside of me ever since I could remember. My name is Odie, but everyone calls me Big Odie due to my size compared to my age. I'm a brown unicorn, with a Light green mane. I have just never felt right, I have this feeling of darkness that makes me seem different from all the other ponies.It doesn't seem like anypony else is like this, so that’s way I tend to stay away from any pony, I usually walk around or sit under a tree drawing. I am a orphan in the village. I was dropped off when I was just 2 months old. They put me in a small shed that i now call my home. They knew I wasn't normal because I would never play or do anything, I'd just sit there. They thought I was brain dead until they gave me a sketch book and some pencils. Then they saw the very first drawing I did, to them it looked like a horrific scene but I could see past the illusion. The drawings were my other side trying to break free, I never let it. Now as i grow, I'm able to control the "urges" for what it wants.
As I grow I feel it growing with me, I think others are noticing it too. I was thinking about leaving, it's not like anypony would care. As I'm pondering leaving or not, it starts to rain. I like the rain, it's dark and the sound feels like an echo going through my soul. I'm currently sitting under the bridge out of town and I'm drawing the stream going out of the village. Times like this allow me to unwind and start to feel normal. I feel myself relax, and I slip into a deep slumber.

" Baghh, what the hell was that?" I awake, under the bridge with the moon high in the sky.
"I just woke up from a ... Nightmare? ... I'm almost a freakin grownup and I just had a nightmare?!? What the hell." I say unhappy about what just happened, " I better get back home before anypony notices."
As I'm walking back, I have this sinking feeling that something is aloof. So i decide to check in on the only person who i actually talk too, Ms. Sunlight, my next door neighbor. I get to her house and slowly knock on the door, No Anwser. "Damn," I slowly open the door, I slowly turn around and, it's as if the world stops. Right in front of me is Ms. Sunlight, on the floor unconscious.
I'm breathless. I can’t comprehend what's in front of me, “I, I ... no ... I'm still dreaming. I have to be! the fact of the matter is I just had a nightmare of seeing every pony die when they looked at me, but I woke up before I went into Ms. Sunlight's house " I slowly sit down to process what's happening. There's only one way to figure this out, I have to see if anypony else is alive.
I dash out of the house, running to the next house; I stop at the door, composing myself for the inevitable. I slowly knock, but right as my hoof hits the door the door opens due to the force of my pound. I peer into the room, and I'm devastated with what I see. “there dead, every pony ... Is ... Dead"
"I don't understand any of this. I don't know what to do, Damn! I can't think straight. I have to clear my head, get far away from here, that's all I need to do is clear my head and figure out what the hell is wrong with me."

I've been walking around for about 3 days now. It's nighttime and cold as hell. I see a few city lights up ahead, as I get closer it starts to pour down like some pony hit a nimbus right up the ass. I'm growing more tired by the millimeter. As I walk through to the centre of the town I collapse from exhaustion and starvation. Just before I pass out I hear a mare's voice call out
"Ohh my... Are yo... Quick spike open the door!"
I feel myself being picked up by an aura, then blackness.

Darkness, it's the bane of Odie's life. Odie slowly awoke to find himself in a large purple bed. He looked around to see that he was in a master bedroom, but papers where everywhere. There was a small table on the side of the bed with a note and a plate of pancakes. The note read--
Dear Stranger,
I have left you some food and am very intrigued as to what your story is, but I'll let you come downstairs when you’re ready and feel strong enough to talk.
Your new friend,
Twilight Sparkle
Big Odie slowly got up and started to walk over to a mirror in the corner of the room.
“Damn, I look like shit,” Big Odie was very malnourished, but due to his abnormal size he was able to survive. Odie then went over to the table and started to eat the pancakes, they were the most delectable ones he ever had. While he was eating, Odie thought over what had happened. His whole village was wiped out by him. He checked every ponies pulse, they were gone. He fled shortly after gathering his belongings. He was walking for days, and as he looked back upon his thoughts, a knock was at the door,
“Hello?” some pony shouted from the other side,
“Yea-Yeah, one minute.” Odie yelled out, he quickly downed the rest of the food and said “Come in,”
With that the door opened, and in came a lavishing lavender unicorn.
“I-I, hell- hello?” Odie stuttered,
“Hello, my names Twilight Sparkle! Umm, what’s your name?” Twilight said nicely
“Uhh, ohh, Odie, my names Big Odie,” Odie said nervously,
“So, uhh what happened to you, Odie?” Twilight asked curiously,
“Well its sort-a long story and it’s really complicated.” Odie stated, not wanting to scare the only pony who helped him in his life,
“Oh, well I have time to spare, so… “Twilight said enthusiastically, but was stopped mid-sentence
“Don’t take this the wrong way, but I don’t want to scare you, and I don’t really know you …” Odie said trying to steer this away from what had happened.
“Oh, don’t worry, I’m sure once you get to know me you’ll be able to tell me” she said with a heartwarming smile,
“Yeah, heh, I guess I should get out of your hooves then,” Odie said wanting to get away to process everything,
“What? I don’t think so,” Twilight said,
“Wh-Why?” Odie asked, frightened that she wanted to talk more.
“Uhh, for starters you’re malnourished, secondly you can’t go around a town you don’t know and thirdly you need rest,
from the looks of you, you’ve been walking for days.” Twilight said with a concerned look,
“Ohh, umm ok”,
“So, I’ll get you something to eat, and you stay here and rest.”,
“Wait, I don’t need to keep you from you’re bedroom, I could sta-“Odie said, before being cut off.
“No you don’t, but I want you to stay somewhere comfortable.” Twilight said insistently.
“Al-alright” Odie gave up, “just give me some time to think”,
With that Twilight went downstairs to make him some more food and Odie finally got some time to think.

After a few days of resting at Twilights, Odie now had a decent idea of what happened. The darkness inside had now awoken again and he went into a sub-consciousness when it was raining. The darkness went around and had to power to kill everypony, by giving them a heart attack. At least that's all he could piece together. As he was just starting to try and be at ease with his dark side, a knock was heard at the door. "Come in." Odie said, over the time he spent resting at Twilights, he had started to become a little more social.
“Hey, Odie, I just wanted to check in." Twilight said as she walked in,
" I'm doing much better, no thanks to you.",
" Well that's good, umm; I have some ponies who would like to meet you, if it’s okay with you?” Twilight said hesitantly,
"Uhh, sure, I guess" Odie said, wondering who the hell would want to meet him.
"Girls! Come on in." Twilight called into the hallway. With that in came five other mares about the same age as Twilight. There was a white unicorn with a purple mane, she seemed to be the oldest and seemed very ladylike. An orange earth pony with a blonde mane, who seemed to brighten the room with a smile. A yellow Pegasus with a pink mane, who walked in looking down at the ground. A cyan Pegasus with a rainbow mane, she was very toned so Odie assumed she was an athlete. And a pink earth pony who hopped on in, her mane was just slightly darker than her coat.
“Girls, this is Odie, the stallion I told you about." Twilight Said as a matter a factly,
"Well butter ma biscuits ya actually do got a colt friend," the orange one said, making Odie and Twilight blush.
“Applejack, that was quite brash, “the white one said, “My names Rarity my dear.",
" Hello Rarity,",
" Ah was just sayin wat every pony was thinking." Applejack said trying to save herself,
" Yeah, Applejacks right, that sure is what it seems like," the cyan Pegasus said " we hadn't seen you for day's and you
come down to Sugarcube corner and say you found some stallion,"
" Well yeah Rainbow Dash, when I found him he was malnourished and I had to take care of him, and I couldn't send spike he was busy working on containing his new magic." Twilight said trying to tell them what happened,
“Righhtt, and why was he malnourished exactly?" The cyan pony asked,
"Well, truth is I don't even know." twilight said awkwardly,
"Holy Moly Twi, for all we know he could be a bad flank, or a, filly fooler," the pink pony said, drawing out a long ooo at the end,
"Come now Pinkie Pie, if he were a bad flank, he would of done something by now." Rarity said trying to calm the pink pony down,
"Yeah and the only reason he doesn't want to tell us is because he doesn't trust me too mu-" Twilight tried to say but was cut off mid- sentence,
"It's okay, I think you girls are the type to blab about me, I sort of left my village in haste, because I was, was, scared." Odie lied,
"Now why we're ya scared Sugarcube?" the orange pony asked,
"I, I, don't want to say.",
“That’s quite alright my dear, I can tell you went through something quite tragic." Rarity said, trying to comfort Odie.
" Tha-Thanks," Odie said thankfully,
“Well, how are ya fellin now?” Applejack asked,
"Well I sure am feeling better than I was three days ago." Odie said even though the extended talk was draining him,
" Well that's good to hear, we'll let you get a bit more rest, “said Rarity, noticing my very delusive state.
" Thanks, I'm just a bit tired," Odie said tiredly. As the group left Odie quickly fell into a deep, long awaited sleep.

Twilight had just finished saying goodbye to her friends, and she felt the urge to go check to see if Odie really is okay. She crept up the stairs at her own pace, and when she got to the door, she knocked and quietly asked, " Odie, are you still up?" she then proceeded to open the door and walk in. She was pleased to see that he was asleep for once. The past three days consisted of him just lying there, and eating. She thought he was doing this for a reason but it would seem he had a lot on his mind. 'This is the perfect opportunity,' she thought to herself, ' I can find out how he's doing without him lying or brushing it off, like the other 10 attempts.'
She closed her eyes and slowly lowered her head until her horn was touching his. She opened her eyes and a flash of light blasted throughout the room, she slowly backed away from the brown unicorn in front of her.
“Wh-What was that?!?" she exclaimed. While that spell was meant to examine the body and mind, she felt an eerie presence from within him, and when she had ended the spell, she heard a mumbled voice say something. She was now slowly getting a grip on what she had heard, Nightmare. The one word echoed through her head now. She slowly came back down to Equestria; she realized this was no random occurrence. She started to pack, for she knew what she had to do. Learn.

Odie had just awoken, and went downstairs for surprisingly the first time in his stay at Twilights. The entire time he was here he wanted to not be disturbed so he could figure everything out, and the only interruptions were Twilight checking in or bringing him food. As he descended the stairs he looked into a large room filled with bookshelves. They were filled to a t with books; Odie had never seen so many books in his life. His thoughts were interrupted by a small hello barley audio able, he turned around to see the yellow and pink Pegasus from last night.
“Hello, umm, heh I sort of didn’t catch your name from last night” Odie said,
“Fluttershy,” the yellow mare whispered,
“P-pardon?” Odie asked a little confuzzeled,
“flut-fluttershy,” she repeated, her voice creaking up at the end,
“Hey, Fluttershy, my names Odie, it’s nice to meet you” Odie said smiling,
“H-hello, O-Odie,” Fluttershy said with her face down,
“Are you alright Fluttershy?” Odie asked curiously,
“Mhhm” fluttershy said quietly looking away,
“Ohh, I see, you’re shy!” Odie figured out,
“Yes” she confessed,
“Hey, it’s nothing to be ashamed about,” Odie said trying to show her it’s alright, “You’re no different from anypony else, you just don’t like crowds,” Fluttershy looked up to him at when he said that,
“To be honest, people who are quiet, in my opinion are usually more intelligent, but they keep to themselves. I know this cause I usually kept to myself when I was younger.” Odie admitted,
“Really!” Fluttershy shouted, “Oh, sorry, for yelling”,
“Haha, its fine, so where’s Twilight?”,
“Oh, well she had to leave in quite the hurry, she didn’t tell me why but she said she was going to Canterlot and for you to stay here. She wanted me and spike to watch you.” Fluttershy explained quickly,
“Holy, I guess you can talk when you want” Odie joked,
“Hmm, yeah, “Fluttershy said embarrassed,
“So, who is Spike?” Odie asked quizzically,
“Oh, you haven’t met, well he’s Twilights personal assistant.” Fluttershy said,
“Mhh, where’s he at?”,
“Ohh he went to get some food for lunch.” ,
“Heh seems I ate all of Twilights food, “Odie said feeling a bit ashamed, just then the front door opened and a small purple dragon walked in with some bags of food.
“Holy Shit!” exclaimed Odie, “A bucking Dragon!” Odie ran in front of Fluttershy, “Who are you and what do you want!” Odie protectively asked.
“Uhhh, I’m Spike, and I live here.” Spike said, wondering wtf was happening,
“You’re Spike!?!” Odie asked seemingly mind fucked,
“Uhhhhmm, yes?” Spike said still wondering why he’s being asked questions,
“But, I dragons were hostile people?” Odie asked,
“Well Most but I was hatched by Twilight, and she taught me to be a more civilized dragon” Spike said proudly,
“Shiiitt, that’s awesome, so what can you do? Dragon magic? Breathe fire?” Odie asked excited that he met a dragon,
“Uhh, I’m sort of at the dragon age where my magic gets a little unstable because my body is now just acknowledging
them.” Spike clarified,
“Heh, wow, Can you do anything right now or?” ,
“No, I just started this week, and soon I’m going to Canterlot to get help from Princess Celestia.”,
“Holy, you know the Princess? Hell you’re going to be trained by her!” ,
“Umm, we all know the princess’s, Odie, we helped them” Fluttershy explained, Odie just sat there on his haunches like ‘wat.’
“Do you know anything that happened these past few months?” Spike inquired,
“No, my village was … ‘cut off’ from the rest of Equestria” said Odie,
“Oh, well when Nightmare Moon came back … Then the Elements are Harmony worked and Discord was turned back into stone.” Fluttershy described the adventures they had saving Equestria. Odie seemed to be in deep thought ever since they mentioned The Nightmare.
“Odie? ODIE!” Spike bellowed out,
“Huh Oh uhh, sorry about that I guess I zoned out.” Odie stated,
“Yeah, well I got to go make supper, so yeah” Spike said realizing how much time they had spent talking,
“Wow that took a while.” Odie said,
“Yeah,” Fluttershy agreed,
After they ate, Odie went into the main room and read while the others did their own stuff. He then proceeded to go to bed.

Twilight reached Canterlot early in the morning; she immediately went to the Canterlot Master Library to search anything on 'dark spirits' or 'ethereal beings'.
"Twilight Sparkle, my most favourite student, when I heard you came here so abruptly I almost didn't believe it." Princess Celestia said, walking into the library,
"Oh! Hello Princess, sorry it's just something really got me side tracked and it seems to be very important," Twilight explained in a hurry,
"It would seem as that, if you’re in this much of a hurry, would you care to explain so I may help you?" Celestia inquired,
"Well it started when I was out star gazing one night, I saw a figure out in the fields, moving towards town ... And after I used the spell I heard the word nightmare echo through my head, and so I came here to research." Twilight summed up, whilst Celestia Listened intently,
"Hmm, The only place I've heard of this nightmare before was-" Celestia said before being cut off,
"Nightmare Moon, yes but my library didn't speak of anything like this, I could feel it's presence inside him, it was much more different from Nightmare Moon." Twilight said, “It was like it dormant, like it was waiting, lingering.”
"Hmm, well I shall inquire the help of Luna, and I shall give you access to the Mystics' Wing," Twilights eyes widened at the word,
"How will the Mystics' Wing help? it's filled with old spells that have been surpassed by others."
"Well if it's anything like what Luna had, then it's very old, and the Mystics' Wing has a dedicated area to ancient lore and legends," Celestia enlightened ,
"Alright" Twilight said walking towards the Indicated wing,
"I shall be swift," Celestia called out and left as well to her sisters chambers.
Twilight had been searching for hours, but to no avail. Turns out Celestia was not as swift as she intended as she came into the wing with Luna close behind her.
"Good Evening my friend," Luna said,
" Hello Princess Luna," Twilight said "I haven't been able to find anything of use,"
"That's because there isn't anything of use here." Luna simply stated
"What?” Twilight exclaimed,
"All the information on anything like the Nightmare has been lost in time." Luna explained "If what you have told my sister is true then we must not waste any time!" Luna said,
"Why, what's wrong with Odie?" Twilight asked
"We do not have the privilege of explaining now, the jest of it, is that Odie is the current carrier of the Nightmare," Celestia explained "Now we must get there quickly for this night is the anniversary of when Equestria was truly born, with that ... The Nightmare. I believe it will have enough power to attempt to take hold of Equestria tonight" With that the three left to the Princess' carriage.

Odie was asleep within an hour of lying down, and had slept for a few hours before he awoke. He quickly knew something was wrong when he saw he had awoken in a black endless void.
He heard the sound of a large grumble echo throughout the void.
"He-Hello?" he asked
"Hmm, it seems you've awoken, very well" a dark wispy voice echoed through the emptiness, "I suppose it's fitting to watch me wreak havoc on your new friends village." the voice said amusingly.
"Wait, what in the fucking hell is going on?!? I've been able to control you for so long! What happened?" Odie spouted out, mad that this thing could overpower him,
"Hehehe, you foal, I let you control me, it made my recovery so much easier!" The dark being said,
"R-Recovery?! What the hell are you?" Odie asked, now fearing that something had been 'recovering' inside him,
"I Am The Nightmare, you have been so foalish to not suspect anything of the darkness within you" the Nightmare,
spewed, " I lost much of my power due to the constant fighting with Luna, that when I was expelled I needed to rest, and
you were the perfect place" the Nightmare said, appearing in front of Odie,
"I'm no hiding place you bastard!" Odie yelled not controlling his anger, the entire black void turned a deep red,
"Well, this is quite different," the Nightmare said casually, “Noponies been able to fight my mind contortion other than Princess Luna. No problem, I'll just increase your magical exhaustion levels, … and there" Odie fell to the ground, he felt like he'd been drained of his entire life force,
"I'm sorry, but You have alerted the people downstairs with that tantrum, I must now go and confront the party outside, so I'll just let you stay here and watch." The nightmare said leaving the void, which in turn turned a part of the void into a large screen view of what the Nightmare was seeing.
The 6 friends and the two Princesses were confronting the Nightmare, Luna and the nightmare were conversing, but then Luna reared up and cast'd a dark wisp towards him and the Nightmare, it blinded his vision but he regained it after a few moments. The large screen was filled with a black view. He felt his power returning to himself, and across the void a dark obsidian door appeared. Odie ran towards it seeing as it was his way out. He saw it slowly open, with a black alicorn standing in the door way, he knew her, or more so of her.
"Hello Odie, I have given you enough power to exit this realm but once you are out, you'll fall unconscious, I shall get Twilight to catch you though."
"Yes, Princess,"
"Spare the formalities we have much bigger problems," Luna commanded "Not to mention being under the control of a horrible entity"
"Very well, Luna, but … the Nightmare never did much whilst inside me, it said it was resting" Odie said,
"Hmm, this is not good, we'll have to talk later, but I must end this now" she said with solid resolve. She went through the portal ready to kill the nightmare, with Odie in tow.

They reached Ponyville late in the evening, where they called the 6 friends to come to the library. They all arrived with haste, where they immediately formulated a plan.
"Well heck, this ain't good" Aj stated the obvious
"Yes it's not good but we have the elements and Odie is currently asleep, so we should hav-" at that moment, the group heard Odie scream out,
"Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!"
All the girls stood there, they then rushed up the stairs in a hurry to check on Odie.
When they got there, Odie was levitating in the centre of the room. It seemed as if he was fighting to keep hold of his very sanity, you could see the pain he was in fighting a force which out matched you ten to one.
"Quickly Celestia, hold him in place!" Luna ordered as she that he was going through something 20 times harder than what she went through when the small portion of the Nightmare took control of her. She put an anaesthetic spell on him and used a spell she fabricated whilst on the moon.
"Hello Lulu," the Odie spoke in a dark tone,
"I-I, no… Free him, or I Will” Luna said realizing the Nightmare was in control,
"Heh, you’re kidding right? You don’t even have the power to do it!” Odie said smugly,
“Nope ... Nocte Videte, Vocatus, Discussa Eum A Hic" Luna chanted as her eyes glowed a dull empty darkness, her horn started to protrude a black wisp leading towards Odie. It circled around Odie.. Then the wisp covered his entire body, one second he was there, the next he was replaced with a black void.
"Twilight, When the void is gone I need you to catch Odie" Luna ordered,
"Alright" Twilight said,
A full minute passed with Luna in deep concentration, all of a sudden the void peeled off into the air, destroying the entire back corner of the room. Odie fell from the sky and was caught by Twilights aura. The Nightmare was now in the air looking upon the group. It's face as if it liked this predicament. It looked to be a large stallion almost the size of Luna, but was completely made of smoke. It had shadowy wings, like a dragon, and a rugged horn.
“Who-who is that Luna?” Twilight asked,
“That is the Nightmare, the foalish creature that took control of me.” Luna said with a look of anger,
“Now, now, Luna my dear, that’s no way to talk to an old friend” The Nightmare said,
"We were never friends you fiend!" Luna said with her Royal Canterlot voice "You took control of me, I was forced to fight my dear sister, all because of you!"
"That's because you got in the way of my plans," the Nightmare said "You got in between me and Celestia, if you hadn't got in the way Equestria would be under my control!" the Nightmare started to grow in size "But it does not matter for now I have regained my full power and now Equestria shall fall!
"NEIGH! Timeo, Aeterna Ira, Solvite Tenebris Hic!" Luna called upon her power to dispel the Nightmare from this land but it was too late, for the Nightmare had already disappeared.
"Damn," Luna said looking down at the half torn floor, as she shed a tear. Celestia saw this and walked up and held her sister tightly,
"Thank you my dear sister, I- I needed that," Luna said, letting go of Celestia, "How is Odie doing, I tried my best at removing him from the shadows..." Luna explained but was stopped mid-sentence,
"He’s doing fine, but we really need an explanation for what's going on, I mean what is happening?!" Twilight asked, knowing everpony was now wondering,
"Yes, yes, we have some time now ... For this to make sense, you must know that when Equestria was made, a entity was formed to hold all the pain, suffering, and evil that every world has, that entity is The Nightmare." Luna started, “The Nightmare went from pony to pony, wreaking havoc on Equestria, that is, until me and my sister took reign over the world. Some nobles from the southern area came to us, pleading we help them. Once we found out about The Nightmare, we made it our duty to find it and destroy it."
"It had its own plans to take over Equestria, so it made itself easy to find, it was in an old weathering stallion, making itself seem harmless, so we were foolish enough to take the bait. We closed in, saying if it had any last words when it jumped out at Cele, I felt a rush and jumped in front of her, knowing if she was controlled, I would have no chance.
