The Case

WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!

I stepped back and looked at my wall with a critical eye.

"Nope, not straight." I tilted the painting a bit to the left. "There! Perfect!" I trotted back to my desk and sat in my chair and looked proudly at a large painting of a door. It was a seemingly normal door to the non observant, but to me it was a gate. I tapped on the painting a few times and listened closely. A faint tapping was heard on the other side of that painted door. I smiled and sat back down on my chair.

"Looking at your painting again?" A voice said behind me. I spun slowly and grinned at my assistant Full Spectrum.

"Not just looking, more getting the door in the perfect spot." I looked behind Spectrum into the main room. Boxes were stacked all over and two of my inspectors were struggling to move a desk across the room. "You  should probably should help them set up out there." I told him. "Ecto and Thermal could use some help. Spectrum snorted and trotted back towards the struggling pair.

Behind me a door rattled and creaked.

I spun around and behind me was a large wooden door in place of the painting. The door slowly opened and my vision could not penetrate past the blackness beyond the door. I calmly sat there and waited. A misty smoke floated out the the door and floated past my chair. The door slowly closed again and when I spun back around, a ghostly form of a pony stood in front of me. We stared at each other for a few minutes until we both started to laugh.

"You can't help with the dramatic entrances can you?" I said, chuckling. The spirit just grinned and gave me the what do you think look. "Honestly though it's good to see you again." The spirit smiled and gave me a, sort of hug. When it moved away, I was covered in ectoplasm. The spirit grinned sheepishly as I wiped my self off. " What brings you here?" I asked it and it's smile faded and it looked, worried; a look I have never seen on its face in all the years I've been communicating with the dead. It motioned to the old phonograph sitting on a small table next to my desk. I nodded in understanding and pulled a blank record out from my desk. I moved over to the phonograph, placed the record down, wound it up, and set the needle down. with a faint crackle of static, a voice slowly came through.

Pain, so much pain. A door. A door opening. It comes for the one who sees without seeing whats there. The One Who Sees will be taken The spirit writhed in front of me and dissipated into smoke. The phonograph exploded into static and the door opened. A low howl wailed out from the blackness and the smoke was drawn into the dark place that was the realm of the dead. The spirit's voice suddenly screamed from the phonograph.

THE DARKNESS COMES FOR ALL THOSE WHO LIVE IT WILL CONSUME THE LIGHT OF THOSE ALIVE AND THOSE WHO ARE DEAD RUN HELP THE ONE WHO SEES RUN............OH THE PAIN HELP HELP HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

And with that the door flashed in a bright light. When the light faded the door was gone and the painting hung at a tilt. I stared at shock at the painting and the dread of what was coming hit me full on. The painted door that served as my portal to the land of the dead, was gone. And before I could even begin to register the disappearance of the door, the light flickered, browned, and then exploded; plunging me into darkness. I sat in the dark for a long while staring off into the blackness, the weight of what I was told beginning to spread fear through my body.

"Yo Specter? Hey Specter, you all right in there?" I sat in silence for a few seconds before trusting myself to speak.

"Thermal, get our equipment ready, were going to have a case, soon." I heard a slight shuffling outside my door and a light lit up the darkness of my office. Thermal had activated his light magic and he was staring at me.
