The Flyer Within (Edited)

"*pant* *pant*" Was all that Derpy could do when they had successfully produced tornado that sucked water out of the pond and sent it to Cloudsdale. She sat softly by the empty pool and watched as everypony was cheering for the yellow coated pony Fluttershy for helping with the final push of wing power to the tornado. Derpy was really proud of her, but She was just way too tired for cheering of any sort.

When everything had calmed down and every pegasus alike went home to have a good meal and rest. Derpy still sat there in and stared at the empty pond in complete bliss. Thinking about what had happened inside that wind tunnel.

It was one most amazing experiences in her life. Never had she felt more alive than she did when she was flying inside that tunnel. She had noticed that with all her training she was even able to keep up with Dash. Astounding as that sounded even she had a hard time believing it because she was not the best flyer anyway.

After coming out of her trance, Derpy noticed that it was getting late and decided to head on home before it got too dark. On her way she started thinking about her wing power.

You know Ms.Hooves. You never did get your wing power tested She thought to herself.

There were some many ponies being tested that she never got a chance to do it, or like most ponies in Ponyville many try to pretend she wasn't there half the time. It was rude and depressing that many ponies didn't like her, but most of the time she wouldn't let get her down.

I will ask Twilight tomorrow if I could test my wing power real quick. She is a nice pony after all. I'm sure she gladly do it

Smiled at the thought and quickly galloped home to make her famous blueberry muffins.

Fluttershy was finally home and was getting ready to go to bed. As today's excitement had her completely tuckered her out, but there was one thing that was bothering her about today and that was Derpy sitting by the pond by herself.

I hope everything was all right she seemed more tired than any of the ponies there. Thought a concerned Fluttershy

In the wind tunnel, Fluttershy had used all her strength to help increase the wing power and she was quick as lightning. There were only two ponies who kept up with her and that was Rainbow Dash of course and....... Derpy? At least she thought it was Derpy, the moment was such a blur to her, but every once in awhile she would notice a gold and grey mare flying not far beside her and Dash. It was bizarre. Never has she seen Derpy fly so fast.

I don't think Rainbow Dash or anypony for that matter even noticed her.

The thoughts of Derpy jingled around her head while she got ready for bed and then decided to talk to Dash about it tomorrow to see if she had seen Derpy flying beside them.

Now normally for Fluttershy flying was not one of her more favorite things to do she preferred to have her hooves on the ground, but she could recognize an amazing flyer when she saw one and would hate for talent such as that to go unnoticed.

Just as she was getting into bed, the bedroom door was opened by Angel Bunny who had an ugly expression on his and was pointing to his mouth

"Oh dear, i had completely forgot about your dinner tonight Angel. I'm sorry"

He was satisfied with acknowledge of her mistake and hopped away with Fluttershy behind him.

Next morning, Derpy had the early morning shift at the post office and was working through each of her parcels to make sure they were going to the right address as she was beginning to make her rounds in Ponyville. While she was looking through she realized that she had grabbed the wrong mail bag. This was the third time this week she had done that and if her boss found out he will be furious. She flew as fast she could back to the post office went inside switched it with the right one and zoomed back out. Her speed was astounding she done it so quickly that nopony even saw that she went in and out except for one cyan pegasus that saw the whole thing from a cloud.

Dash's jaw dropped so low that it could have hit the ground.

How could this clumsy, muffin lover be that fast? Come to think of it i don't even remember seeing her in that tornado yesterday.

She was doing laps around every pony except for Fluttershy who was right beside her and not once did she Derpy. So she decided to investigate and go ask Derpy where she was. She flew down to Derpy while she was searching through her bag and was completely oblivious to anything around her.

Dash took advantage of this and decided to scare her.

"HEY, WHAT YOU DOIN!?"

It scared the hell out of poor Derpy. She threw all her packages in the air and then ducked down beside the mail box for comfort. Rainbow Dash laughed hysterically at the sight and was almost in tears after a few seconds, but was able to calm down as Derpy began picking the packages around her.

"I'm sorry Derpy." as she was wiping away a tear "It was just too good pass up."

Derpy usually can take a practical joke pretty well and she pulled many of on different ponies, but this was her job. If ponies don't get their packages in the proper condition she could get fired, but luckily all the packages were fine.

"It's all right Rainbow" she said with some agitation but then perked up "I would have probably done the same thing."

"Well of course you would. Who wouldn't?" Dash smirked "But anyway I wanted to talk to you about yesterday."

"Oh you do? Why?"

"Well every pegasus that was listed present yesterday I saw while flying in that tornado except you. No matter how many times i went around you were no where to be seen."

Dash was right up against Derpy's face. Their eyes staring right back back at each or at least Dash thought Derpy was looking right back her. For Derpy ,though Dash was making her feel rather uncomfortable and some what annoying but Derpy kept her cool.

"Sooooooooo?" Derpy said as she started rolling her eyes hoping that would get weird Dash out a bit and get her to back off. It did. "Your asking where i was yesterday?"

"Yes that's it!" still giving Derpy an amusing smirk

"Well i was basically flying right beside you and Fluttershy.

This statement made Dash laughed harder than scaring Derpy. The thought of Derpy being as fast as her was ridiculous. Dash and Fluttershy both went to one of the top flying schools in Equestria, but for Derpy, she had gone to a regular public flying school. Her parents were not able afford the private school Dash and Shy went to.

"That is impossible!" said Dash still intears as she tried to catch her breathe " Some pony as pathetic as you could not keep up with me"

The statement made Derpy feel a sharp sting in her side and almost made her cry. She had found this whole new passion for flying that it brought her so much joy that she could be as fast as Dash.

What if she's right? Derpy thought sadly

"STOP IT DASH!!"

Dash froze. She could recognized that yell anywhere. It was the same yell she heard at the Gala. Dash turned her head towards the voice and there was Fluttershy with her face turning red with anger.

"That is no way to treat another pony! What has gotten into you?" Shy voice was shaking with anger and her eyes were setting up position for The Stare.

Dash stared back "You know Fluttershy that I have the up most respect for you, but don't you see what Derpy is saying. How could she be as fast you or ME? She hasn't been trained by the finest teachers in Cloudsdale, but instead was sent to ....... public school." It made Dash shiver to even say a wretched thing.

"That maybe so, but for any pony the possibilities are endless and Derpy can achieve any goal she puts her mind to so long as she works hard." Fluttershy tense voice as she scraped the ground and continued to glare back at Dash.

Derpy was touched by Fluttershy's confidence in her. She had never seen Fluttershy in such a rage before it almost scared her. This was also the first pony to ever stick up for her. It made Derpy so happy that she almost cried, but resisted so Dash couldn't see.

"I have a way to settle this to see who is the best flyer. At the end of this week we will have a competition just like the Young Flyers Competition except who ever wins is best flyer in Ponyville. How about that?" Dash said as she turned her head towards Derpy.

Fluttershy's confidence had boosted Derpy's self esteem and gave her the courage to get up look Dash straight in the eyes and said with a tone so intense that even the Wonderboltz would have backed down from her.

"Bring it!"
