"I know what you did, Rainbow Dash!" Pinkie whispered threateningly in my ear, destroying any chance that I had of taking a nap. I sat up groggily and tried to ignore the headache that was starting to form.
"For the fifth time, Pinkie, what did I do?" I shouted down at her from the cloud where I was resting. I have no idea how she managed to whisper in my ear from such a distance and I don't want to know.
"I know what you diiiiiiiiiiiid," Pinkie repeated, bouncing away from me, leaving me to groan in exasperation and flop back onto the cloud, hoof to my forehead. I stared up into the clear sky, my cloud being one of the only ones for a few miles, not caring that the sun was burning into my eyes. Pinkie Pie was being a bigger pain than the bright light shining into my eyes, making them water, causing me great pain...
"Ack." I gave up on trying to endure the sun's rays and rolled over onto my stomach. I'd try to fall asleep again, but then Pinkie Pie would probably bother again. What did I even do, anyway? I mean, I stole an extra cupcake from her at the party last week, but it's not like she'd care. She gave me all of the leftovers afterwards, so technically, I didn't even steal it.
"It was YOOOOOUUUUUU!" I jumped up, startled, and reflectively dropped down into a battle stance. I whipped myself around to see... nothing.
"Pinkie Pie!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. I jumped down from the cloud and glided about thirty feet off of the ground, scanning the area for any sign of pink as I flew. I saw trees, grass, more trees, some trees, some apple trees, a few benches, an overweight skunk, five ponies, and fifty-three bushes, but no Pinkie Pie. However, I did see pink - pink wildflowers arranged in such a way that they spelled out the words, "I KNOW WHAT YOU DID!"
I circled around the area and slammed down into the ground perhaps a bit harder than necessary, causing the ground to shake and the flowers to burst into nothing more than a flurry of colorful petals. I stomped my hoof into the dirt and growled, squinting through the dust cloud to find the party pony who was antagonizing me so. She couldn't be too far away.
"Get your flank over here, Pinkie!" I commanded. Not a second later, I was knocked to the ground with an incredible force and the wind was knocked out of me.
"Ooooookay," she sang cheerfully. "Ooh, want to play hide and seek? I haven't played that for soooooooo long and-"
I gasped, clutching my stomach and trying to draw in a breath.
"-because I bet you could go everywhere with those wings!"
A few tears came to my eyes as I tried to catch my breath.
"Wait... that wouldn't be fair. No wings allowed!"
"P-Pinkie," I finally managed to rasp out.
"Hmm? What is it?" She tilted her head to the side in an almost comical fashion.
"What did I do?" I wheezed.
Hearing those four words, her expression immediately darkened. She leaned forwards menacingly and hissed in my face, "Oh, you horrible pony. Playing dumb, huh? You don't think I know what you did this morning?"
This morning? Well, at least that ruled out the cupcakes thing.
"Pinkie, I honestly don't know what I did," I explained to her.
"Hmmph!" She sat up and crossed her arms, sticking her nose in the air like a snobby Canterlot noble.
"I'm serious! And get off of me already." I kicked my hooves around wildly and squirmed around under her until she lost her balance and fell off of me. I crawled a few feet away from her before deciding that it was safe enough to stand again.
"Of course you know! I noticed the moment I passed underneath your cloud!" Pinkie snapped.
"Just tell me already."
"Nuh-uh. Stop lying and just admit it."
"Admit what?"
"What you did."
"What did I do?"
Pinkie Pie glared at me. "You-" she started, but then her nose twitched as she caught a whiff of something. Her expression perked up and she closed her eyes, concentrating on the scent, trying to figure out what it was. "I smell... ooh, double fudge brownies! I want some," she decided, and sped off, following the trail of the scent, without even giving me time to protest.
No! I was so close, too - she'd just been about to tell me. Just when I was about to get my answer, life just had to go laugh at me and smash a pie of misfortune in my face.
"Oh for Celestia's sake," I grumbled, using my hoof to clear the area of pebbles before lying back down in a more comfortable position. The ground was uncomfortable, but I needed my nap and there were no other clouds nearby. The one I'd been resting on earlier had drifted out of sight, and I couldn't figure out which direction it'd gone in. "That pony drives me crazy sometimes."
"Well, Dashie, so do you. Why can't you just admit it?" Pinkie's voice said from behind me. Of course she was back already. Why wouldn't she be? At this point, nothing surprised me anymore.
"For the last time, Pinkie, I don't know what I did!" I said, not even bothering to look up at her.
"It's not like it's that embarrassing. Everypony forgets to brush their teeth in the morning sometimes. Stop being such a baby about it."
...Is that seriously what she'd been chasing me around all day for? Seriously? "You have got to be kidding me," I muttered.
"Uh, no. A lot of ponies forget, but they usually brush their teeth later on when they've realized what they've done," Pinkie Pie informed me. Then she smiled, dug around her mane, and started pulling out objects: a violin, a paper boat, a box of spaghetti, and finally, a toothbrush. She placed the last object between my teeth and trotted away happily, satisfied, leaving me lying pathetically in the dirt, worn and exhausted, with a toothbrush hanging out of my mouth.
Never again would I forget to brush my teeth.
