Decapitating Harmony

Epilogue - Decapitated Harmony

Previous Chapter

After 7 months of preliminary appearances, discovery hearings, and jury trial presentations, Trixie Lulamoon was convicted of three counts of murder, attempted murder by poisoning, and cruelty to animals. Celestia gave a public address where she commended Twilight's friends for their assistance in the investigation, formally apologized for the wrongful arrest of Rainbow Dash, and announced that Trixie was sentenced to life in Tartarus bringing the event to an official close.

Trixie was transported back to the maximum security Special Housing Unit of the Canterlot Detention Center on suicide watch as a precaution due to the nature of her conviction and sentence. Her cell was bare and cold with nothing except four concrete walls and a small water fountain/toilet built into the floor of the northwest corner. She sat in the middle of the cell and cried quietly while contemplating her future.

There were rumors that nopony was actually in control of Tartarus. The guardians only prevent escapes while mares like her were being raped to death by any demon which broke free of their chains. Anypony to be sent to Tartarus was destined to a demise of starvation, beatings, or burning within few weeks. She thought she may live longer if a demon takes a liking to her and protects her, but that would likely be to prolong the perpetual raping she would be forced to endure. Trixie trembled, and the first serious idea of suicide to spare herself of the horribly grotesque death that she was doomed to suffer crept into her mind.

She examined the sink from the center of the cell. The hole for bathroom purposes was too small for even her hoof to fit inside. It was on a timer and flushed on its own every hour which removed the need for a button or switch that would certainly be abused and broken by inmates who were troublesome, suicidal, or both. A spout was several centimeters away from the “toilet” and worked on the same timer. So, the toilet flushing would trigger the spout in the floor to dispense 12 fluid ounces of water which, if not drank, would run down the slight funnel into the toilet.

She looked at the fountain closer as a design flaw caught her eye. The half inch thick copper pipe beneath the cylindrical, stainless steel spout was exposed for about a quarter of an inch between the cap and the floor. The cap was about a quarter of an inch wider than the pipe and appeared to be very sturdy. Should a rope be tied around it, Trixie believed that the pipe would support her full weight. Although, since she would be already on the floor, she would have to face away from the spout, lean forward with the rope on her neck, and allow a vascular choke to bring her into unconsciousness. If in the correct position, she wouldn’t collapse completely and she could achieve a horizontal hanging.

The jingle of keys outside the cell rang in her ear as the detention guard peered into her cell, noted her condition on the form taped to the door, and then left her again. They performed a sight check every 15 minutes, on the dot. Trixie thought she could pull her hair out, one strand at a time, and then braid them together to make a rope, but surely they would catch her doing so. That would result in many officers forcing her into a nearby room, holding her down, and shaving her head and tail. She didn’t want to go through that, so she dismissed the thought completely.

Suddenly, a metallic whirring caught her attention as the steel door opened to reveal Princess Celestia entering the cell. Trixie quickly stood and then bowed out of habit.

“Get up.” Celestia commanded curtly.

Trixie stood. Her tears dripped from her chin as she gazed upon the angered face of Celestia. They stared at each other in a moment of silence at the first time Celestia had seen Trixie, face to face, since the murder. Celestia's eyes narrowed and she repressed her primordial urge to smash her into an unrecognizable pulp.

“Princess-” Trixie began.

“Don't speak.” Celestia silenced her.

Trixie noticed she was not accompanied by an entourage of intimidating royal guards, and the detention officers appeared to have been dismissed from their posts. Trixie and Celestia were completely and totally alone to speak in confidence.

“Why-” Trixie started again.

Celestia's horn glowed and her magic squeezed Trixie's mouth shut. “Don't say a word.”

Trixie didn't struggle against the powerful magic grip that held her jaws closed. She simply waited for Celestia to explain her presence.

“You have committed a crime which is unspeakable. As if decapitating harmony, you have broken apart the Elements and left Equestria without its most important means of defense.” Celestia said through gritted teeth. “You will be transported to Tartarus for these crimes where you will live a short life. The burning fires, stabbing rocks, and choking smoke will end you soon if the demons imprisoned there don't eat you alive or use you as hunting game... Or worse.”

Her horn continued to glow as a thin rope slid over the threshold of the cell. Celestia's magic dissipated from the rope just in front of Trixie's hooves. It was braided nylon. Very strong.

Celestia turned to exit the cell. “I can assure you that nopony will bother you until you go to Tartarus in the morning.” Her horn glowed as she began to close the door behind her, “For I am a forgiving princess.”

Following Trixie's suicide, an investigation was launched against the Canterlot Detention Center. Scroot was named the lead investigator of the case and concluded that he had personally witnessed the versatility of Trixie's vaginal muscles; therefore, no fault could be attributed to anypony unable to find the rope in time to prevent her from taking her own life. He also noted a particularly troublesome inmate whom had probably incurred enough attention from the guards so that proper sight checks were unable to be completed. Additional staffing was added to the unit to remedy the issue.

A few weeks after, Scroot replaced his sign at the front of his home to read, “Office of Investigator Majesty Envoy” officially becoming her partner to her cases. He felt that he served well as an assistant and although he didn't wish to stop working, he thought Envoy had become a better investigator than he was. It also gave him more time away from the office as he and Rarity shared a continued relationship, and they had begun to spend more time together.

Rainbow Dash waited a year after being released from jail before bringing herself to say that she forgave Scroot for the misunderstanding, and actually meant it. That was about the same time Pinkie's mane regained its bubbly and curly appearance. The two of them began playing pranks on Scroot nearly weekly. Mainly because Scroot was very reactive to their shenanigans, but also because he always calmed down eventually and admit that it was funny. He never meant it, but he was trying to be nice.

Fluttershy took Spike in as her new number one assistant. He helped keep after her pets, and helped her with research projects concerning animal rescues. Despite the undertaking of helping Fluttershy, he always made time to research all things science because he felt like it brought Twilight and himself closer together.

Princess Celestia and Princess Luna took control of the Elements of Harmony, as they no longer provided defense to the kingdom, and they were placed in the Canterlot Archives in the Starswirl the Bearded Wing along with the other archaic spells and artifacts. Shortly after Trixie’s trial concluded, Princess Luna was left as interim Sun and Moon control while Celestia remained out of the office on sabbatical. Celestia had made many difficult and controversial decisions, so she chose to step out of the civic limelight for a while until things calmed down.

The anniversary of Twilight's death, known as The Day of Twilight, became a dedicatory holiday recognizing the first untimely death of a princess in Equestria. She was buried alongside Owlicious in the Canterlot Memorial Cemetery in a sealed tomb under a statue of her likeness where thousands would gather to remember her every year.

Author's Note

I wanted Trixie to die at the conclusion of the story, but I wanted the trial to happen. Originally, there was a Lee Harvey Oswald style murder of Trixie, but I didn't want anypony to get in trouble for effecting her death. As I re-read it over and over, I became more and more sure of the suicide.

Illustration of Twilight's grave to be added soon enough.
