The silhouette of a fireplace
“Dash, you ready?” Twilight said, while walking into the room. It was a tradition to remember their friends and the cold night.
Twilight put the hot cocoa she got for the both of them on a stand nearby, sat down by the fireplace, while levitating a blanket for the both of them. Dash came in and sat down by her.
“Dash, you have the kids asleep?” She said in Dash’s ear as they watched the fire glow.
“Yes, dear.” Dash said. Nuzzling Twilight, she took the blanket and put it over them. Twilight took their rings and crowns off.
“Let’s begin with Celestia and go from there.”
“Celestia was poisoned this morning. I didn’t know her much. But with the poison, it killed her sense of heat, making it numb to the touch,” Twilight could not speak about her in such a fashion nor her friends. So, Dash did most of the talking, “With the cooks kicked out, she had to make herself breakfast. As she was cooking, her years of not cooking had gotten to her; she blew up the entire wing of the castle and herself.” Rainbow sighed, knowing the next few days would not get better, but kept talking.
“Luna, she has helped me more than once with making a few dreams,” Twilight shifted under the blanket and a blush ran across her face.
“Yes, you did, didn’t you?” Twilight said, still blushing., Letting Dash continue, she stayed quiet.
“Luna awoke from the bang, seeing the sun fling around right then and there. She knew something bad happened. Within minutes, most of the staff were executed, her anger got the best of her and she resorted to old ways. With old ways came old thoughts, new thoughts. Within an hour, she was hearing the laughing of the thing that cursed her as she was consumed by evil. The hold on Tartarus broke. But only one left its confines.”
“Terik,” Twilight said, cutting off Dash, “I can do this part,” Dash smiled and started to sip on her hot cocoa. “Terik was watching the changeling invasion, but thought he wouldn’t need help. But this time he knew he was going to. Though he didn’t know that the girls were go...go...gone. He found Queen Chrysalis, and took her power. With it, Terik went to the Tree of Harmony. That is when we were alerted. But...”
“If this part is hard for you, I can talk.”
“No. No, I’m fine…” Twilight gestured. “But Chandance was there, thinking I was no match for Terik alone without my friends. Be…be...before Terik shredded her apart, I came to see the fight... the losing fight, as Terik grew stronger than ever before. He took Nightmare Moon’s power from her miles away, draining all that power all too fast. With an explosion, Canterlot was gone.” Twilight sighed.
“As grief-stricken as I was, I let out a large magic pulse, as the magic went out, the magic of our old friends came back and for a brief moment Terik was amused. This turned to a shriek of pain, as his insides boiled with the magic of Harmony. His guts exploded over the old pony sister’s castle.” Twilight felt tears swell from her face when she remembered her friends.
She and Dash had to hold the burden of outliving their friends and family.
While both were hard to cope with, Twilight’s mother and father died from a flu. And her friends, they had all great lives. Fluttershy and Big Mac were a great couple. Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich. Rarity had Twilight turn her into a dragon for Spike; they both were killed by an elder dragon, but not until after they had children. Apple Jack broke her back and bled out from internal bleeding, and was found the next day, though it was a mystery as to why there were orange timber wolves that come by the farm now and then. Twilight found out that Apple Jack had a run in and things went from there, but that’s another story.
Twilight was now crying, “What’s going to happen now?”
“I do not know.” Dash was crying as well, remembering the fun times they had as friends.
Pinkie Pie’s first drink of coffee, her doughnut prank on Fluttershy, and when she felt down, Pinkie Pie would be there.
Rarity, she made her first Wonderbolts training suit; it was so light and dynamic it made the Wonderbolts themselves spin in circles. Rarity was keen and saved her life more than Dash could count.
Fluttershy helping with the critter problem, getting her a pet, and helping plant flowers in her house, getting through the loss of Tank and Apple Jack.
Apple Jack’s contests, about 2,034 of them, the last one Dash won was a tie breaker. Who would live longer? She also could not forget the sweet zap apple cider they made together...
With the sad scene, they remembered what they shared with each other. The day they first met. The friendship they shared. The fight for cadence in Canterlot. To the day they took on Discord. The day they defeated Terik or even the days before, when they got their keys.
The first date Dash had with Twilight. Dash’s coronation as a princess. To the day they went to the last level, marriage. Only Fluttershy was able to attend. As they kissed, Canterlot became brighter than ever before. They came home and consummated the marriage. Though not without finding out a few things…once their first child was born; a pegasus named Keen Comet. With a hundred years since their friends all had passed away…their kid has passed away as well. They wanted another, to have some happiness in life.
“What will happen once the smoke clears?” Dash asked.
“I do not know. I do not know who we could ask for help.” Twilight was still full of tears.
“I know who,” Rainbow Dash said, kissing Twilight Sparkle on the lips, still crying from their losses, “We have each other.” Dash said, as they broke the kiss.
