The outrage cycle
The episode starts out with a unicorn recording a video of Apple Bloom and Diamond Tiara having an argument with her horn while the audience hears a narration from Granny Smith
"In Apple Blooms defense it didn't seem like a big deal to me, but maybe i'm desensitized."
"You are just a shallow, over privileged snob!" Screamed Apple Bloom
Every pony gasps in shock
"Yeah that's right you little brat!"
Then the video appears in a news report where a newscaster is reporting the incident.
"Is this the new face of hate? That video which has already been viewed 5 million times across Equestria shows Apple Blooms cruel verbal assault on a classmate of hers, Diamond Tiara apparently for no reason whatsoever. Condemnation from Canterlot officials was swift, Filthy Rich the national director and CEO of Barnyard Bargains vowed that he would investigate the matter however almost immediately ponies started using the "b" word." Said the newscaster.
Upper Crust appeared in a protest and started riling up the rich ponies in Canterlot.
"We should call this Apple Bloom what she is, a bully. So to all of the bullies of the world, all of the Apples in that uncouth family we say no!"
The crowd yells "No!"
The newscaster says "Meanwhile the day after the controversy broke the young filly at the eye of the storm remained unrepentant."
Apple Bloom says "I ain't no bully and all of y'all saying that are snobs! All of y'all have way too much money!"
The newscaster says "That prompted an immediate response from the Canterlot ponies who seek to ruin the Apple family's lives for Apple Blooms actions. In Ponyville tensions were high, their chants were clear Crowd: "Bully, Bully stay back take what you said back!" Their signs were crystal clear."
Rarity appears in an interview along with her cat Opal "I personally have no dog in this fight. I detest bullies and i despise snobs and i especially despise ponies with traits of both of these detestable archetypes such as Suri Polomare. Two things i hate in one cheating, malicious mare! Seriously the only kind of rich pony i can't stand is a snobbish pony especially those who steal my ideas for dresses! Don't you think so Opal?"
Opal Hisses
(Theme Song)
The protest continues with ponies outside of the Apple Family's house shouting "Face of Hate!" at the top of their lungs
Granny Smith narrates "As the rich population of Canterlot went into their second day of protesting Applejack started to panic"
Applejack is seen inside the house panicking after looking out of her house "Oh no i can't believe it! How can something like this happen to us?"
"Stuff like this happens to us all of the time Applejack." Said Big Macintosh
"We're done for why Canterlot? Why couldn't it be Las Pegasus or Baltimare? Everyone makes fun of them!"
Apple Bloom says "Now Applejack before you go crazy let me explain."
"Yes! Please explain yourself Apple Bloom. The video where you were deceiving your etiquette. This is all just some crazy misunderstanding right?"
"But she really is a snob!"
"Oh no! That's your explanation? Do you know what you have done to us? We're going to be blacklisted! Now i'll never host the Golden Horseshoe Awards!"
"But she is a snob! Why should i have to apologize? She has acted like a snob for months in that classroom so i called her a snob! That's not bullying, that's an astute observation! Did the laws of the universe change and no one told me? Now we have to apologize for being right?"
"I'll get my bullwhip and change the laws of the universe on your rump i tell you that!"
"If I'm not allowed to call Diamond Tiara a snob, then what am I supposed to call her? What's the okay word for "snob"?
"You call her nothing! From now on, you see something snobbish, I don't care how snobbish it is it could be worse than The Great and Powerful Trixie you look the other way. If she's mean, look the other way."
(Doorbell rings) "Oh pony feathers. That had better not be one of those protesters wanting to use my bathroom."
"She was a snob, that is all I'm saying."
(Door opens).
"Oh no! [Door closes] What are you doing here? Nobody called you."
A lawyer mare with a gray coat, blue mane, a business uniform, a briefcase cutie mark and a cheerful demeanor enters the room. Her name is Ronda Right
Ronda says: "Celestia called me, Applejack, and she told me to come stand shoulder to shoulder with you in your hour of need.
Hey, Apple Bloom."
"Ronda Right? That's it. Now we really are doomed. You know she's only gonna make it worse, right?" Said Granny Smith
Ronda says: "Worse?! How am I make it worse? You've angered the snobs. They never forgive middle class ponies!"
"Maybe because you keep calling them snobs."
"But that's what they are! Why can't I call a snob a snob, huh?"
"See? She gets it." Says Apple Bloom
Ronda says: "Do you know you can't even say snob on TV anymore? You can say "Derpy" all day, but you can't say snob. Say snob and they'll bleep it. Say "Derpy" no problem. Watch. Derpy Derpy Derpy! [Bleep] [Bleep] [Bleep] Derpy [Bleep] Derpy [Bleep] Derpy, Derpy , [Bleep], [Bleep]"
"Thank Celestia for uncensored DVDs." Agreed Apple Bloom
Ronda says: "See, they know Ponyville has no tolerance for Diamond Tiara. Yes, mam. That's why they're gonna come hard after you to make an example."
"What's the worst they can do?' Questioned Applejack
Ronda: "What those snobs are gonna do is extort you, shake you down for a "donation"."
"Extortion"?
"Oh yeah! Extortion!"
"Wait. You used to extort ponies all the time." Says Granny Smith
Ronda says "It's a shame, isn't it? They stole my whole playbook and kicked me right out the game! I used to extort these rich folks all the time. poor ones, too. I didn't care. Then the Canterlot ponies came along and took everything over."
"But it was okay when you were doing it?"
"I extorted for the common ponies, Granny! Ponyville has earned a full-time extortionist on their side. Canterlot hasn't earned that yet. They ain't suffered like we have."
"So, if we can't pay the "donation" Then what?"
"They are gonna find some way to get that pound of flesh. I'm telling you, your best chance is to stick with me. I know this whole game inside and out. Those Canterlotians can't get anything' over on me!"
"And what's in it for you?"
"I just need attention. They canceled my sitcom.
I'm working for Sapphire Shores for crying out loud! I haven't had anything to do since my last case in Griffonstone!
Thank Goodness they still bully ponies, or I wouldn't even be able to pay my rent."
(Doorbell rings) Applejack goes over to the door.
"Why are you wearing so much grey?" Questioned Applebloom
Ronda says "Taking it back from the Canterlot mares."
Applejack answers the door where Filthy Rich is waiting.
Big Mac says "Eeyup?"
"Applejack, Big Macintosh? I'm here, Filthy Rich. I'm the founder and president of Barnyard Bargains. I believe you've met some of our supporters. I think it's time I stop by for a little chat with my daughter."
Diamond Tiara and Filthy Rich step inside with Diamond Tiara showing her pretentious smirk while Applebloom glares at her.
"Well, uh, welcome, Mr.Rich. As you see, I brought out our good silverware. I know your ponies appreciate expensive things. Greeted Applejack
"You know i used to work for Filthy Rich when i was younger?" Said Ronda
"Really? You don't say."
Filthy rich says "It's true. She got her start as an intern in the summer of 1998 at my original Barnyard Bargains store."
Ronda says "I never should have worked for you all those years ago."
"I didn't know you were still a lawyer. Aren't you a sitcom actress now?"
"A Golden Horseshoe award nominated sitcom actress thank you!"
"Well, Ronda, I'm not here to start any trouble. Unlike you, I don't hate. I mediate."
"See? Rhyming that's my gimmick!"
"As i said at the door i wish to chat to the Apple family about the incident that happened in class a few days back."
"Well Apple Bloom, what exactly happened?" Questioned Applejack
Apple Bloom says "Diamond Tiara was being an absolute brat as usual so i called her out for it."
Diamond Tiara says "That is so like a lie! Tell her Daddy!"
Filthy Rich says "I simply wanted to end this conflict peacefully."
Apple Bloom says "Well it's not going to end peacefully since you have raised such a monstrous and cruel daughter!"
Diamond Tiara says "I am like not cruel to you Blank Flank!"
Filthy Rich says 'I just wanted to appease the ponies you so callously offended with your hateful words. Using the term "snob" when you are referring to someone from Canterlot is downright offensive!"
Apple Bloom says "I didn't say "snob" to mean someone from Canterlot I said "snob" to refer to your daughter! My Sister always told me to tell the truth."
"That's preposterous. I never told her to tell the truth. I always taught my sister the proper way to respect Canterlot ponies is to lie and pretend that they don't exist.'
Filthy Rich says 'Applejack, now that you've had time to think about the seriousness of what your sister has done, I'm sure you'd agree that the best way to make amends with the Canterlot community is a donation to support the fine work we do at Barnyard Bargains."
Ronda says "What did i tell you? You're wasting your time! These ponies have no money and no reputation to ruin!"
"Sorry."
Filthy Rich says "You know what? You're right. Donations are so impersonal. I think it means so much more when we give up ourselves."
Applejack says "So what do you want?"
"I want Apple Bloom."
Everyone except Filthy rich and Diamond Tiara recoils. "Oh, gosh!"
Applejack says "Hey! I'm not giving you my sister in place of a donation."
Filthy Rich says "Ugh! No! What is wrong with you ponies?! I mean that I've talked with my P.R. Committee, and we want to use young Apple Bloom in our youth campaign."
Apple Bloom says "Why me? I'm not even rich."
"No, but you're hip. You're cute. You'll make Canterlot tolerance cool, help Barnyard Bargains reach a younger female demographic."
"What if i say no Filthy?"
"Oh, I'm sorry. Did you think that was a request?"
Diamond Tiara says "My daddy has destroyed lives that are way bigger than yours. Just relax and do exactly what we tell you. It may hurt a little at first, but it'll be over before you know it."
Apple BloomBloom goes with Diamond Tiara and Filthy Rich as Granny Smith provides another narration.
"Filthy Rich and Diamond Tiara had three demands. The first was that Applebloom had to undergo sensitivity counseling."
Apple Bloom says "I'm just gonna go ahead for the record and say "no, snobbishness" over this whole conversation."
Counselor says "Okay. Well, that's a great place to start, but here, we don't say "no, snobbishness" We say "yes, snobbishness"! Let's try it."
"Whatever, lady. "No, snobbishness" over this whole conversation."
"Right. Right."
Granny Smith says "The second demand was that Applebloom had to appear in a Barnyard Bargains PSA advocating for tolerance."
Director says "Okay, ponies, we are going in five. "BB PSA" take 1."
Apple Bloom says "So, the next time you say "snob" to refer to someone from Canterlot, don't, because [Snickers]"
"Cut! "BB PSA take 2" and Action!"
"So, the next time you say "snob" to refer to somepony from Canterlot, don't, because it's not [laughs]"
"Cut! [Breathlessly] Take 6!"
"So, the next time you say "snob" to refer to somepony from Canterlot, don't, because it's not cool [laughs] I'm sorry i cant help it!"
"Cut! [Breathlessly] Take eighty freaking seven!"
"So, the next time you say "snob" to refer to somepony from Canterlot, don't, because it's not cool. It's offensive to brats."
"Cut!"
Granny smith says "The third and most important demand was, of course, the public apology."
The newscaster says "Breaking news in the Apple Bloom bullying story. It seems like the Apples are about to give their official apology. For days now, we've been wondering if there would be an apology. It appears now it's going to happen in just a few minutes. We're going live right now to Ponyville."
The crowd continues to chant "Rich basher" as the Apple family are standing on a podium. Ronda Right arrives on the scene and walks towards the podium as the crowd boos her.
"Thank you. My name is Ronda Right. I'm a dedicated crusader for justice, as well as a Golden Horseshoe nominated actress and producer. We are assembled here today for an important announcement regarding Applebloom and her so called bullying incident. But first, I'd like to talk briefly about my mix-tape."
Applejack says "You read what's on the page, and that's it. Got it?"
Apple Bloom says "Granny Smith, what about you? Don't you believe in my right to tell the truth?"
" Just read what's on the darn page Apple Bloom."
Ronda says 'So, without further ado, here is Miss Apple Bloom!" [Silence] [Feedback] [Camera shutters clicking]
Apple Bloom walks up to the podium and positions herself near the microphone. She reads the written apology that Applejack have her to herself and decides to finally clear her throat and speak.
"A snob is a snob. Thank you."
The crowd gets completely enraged and Diamond Tiara gets a devilish grin on her face. [Crowd booing angrily] "Hatemonger!"
Applejack pushes her sister off of the platform and attempts to calm the crowd down.
"Please! Everyone, settle down! Look, on behalf of Applebloom and the whole Apple family we apologize for ever calling anyone a snob! Applebloom is not a normal child and she hasn't had the best relationship with Diamond Tiara. I don't think she's a bad filly. But she has just had... conflicts with Diamond Tiara."
The reporter says "What kind of conflicts? Like Bullying conflicts?"
"Hmm. I-I guess. there were a bunch of times where those things happened. There was that time when Diamond Tiara turned Apple Blooms cousin Babs against her, there was that time when she made fun of Scootaloo because she couldn't fly, there was that time when she made fun of Apple Blooms blank flank. Hmm. Let me think."
Ronda says "Yes! Diamond Tiara has bullied Applebloom for several months! She has experienced mental pain and severe depression from these incidents." Ronda added.
Applejack says "She has? She has!"
"Oh, no! That's lame! We don't accept that!" Yelled the crowd
Diamond Tiara says "Did she like reveal that I've bullied Apple Bloom this whole time?"
Ronda says "Listen, we ask that you respect the privacy of the Apple family, and I am morally compelled to say shame on Filthy Rich for the pain he has inflicted on this brave, sweet little filly in a tragic series of unfortunate events, thank you."
Ronda and Applejack hug and pose for the cameras as the crowd glares at Filthy Rich.
"Uh oh!"
Another News broadcast is made as Filthy Rich makes an apology to the Apple family.
"And that's why I would like to extend a sincere, heartfelt apology to Applebloom, her sister Applejack, their brother Big Macintosh and their grandmother Granny Smith i hope they can find it in their hearts to forgive me."
The newscaster says "Is this the new new face of hate? Filthy Rich, is currently under fire at this hour for inciting hatred between Diamond Tiara and the fillies and colts of Ponyville and between the upper and middle classes of Equestria."
An angry mob of kids and parents protest around Diamond Tiara's mansion. The CMC are being interviewed.
Scootaloo says "[Laughs] This is a good day for us, 'cause we love it! That brat finally got what she deserved!"
Sweetie Belle says "Apple Bloom can finally be in peace until she gets her cutie mark! I hope Diamond Tiara's family goes broke!"
"One thing the Crusaders will not tolerate and you may write this down is disrespect towards a fellow blank flank."
"Absolutely! and since Diamond Tiara is finally getting her just desserts we can finally celebrate!"
Back at the farm Ronda is talking to the rest of the Apple family.
Ronda says "Didn't I say "trust me"? Now we got those Canterlotians right where we want them!"
Apple Bloom says "Why did y'all tell everyone about Diamond Tiaras harassment towards the Crusaders?"
Applejack says "Because now she's getting her rightful punishment." Said Applejack
Ronda says "Now we should go on the offensive Lawsuits, damages! Those bits of gold are right there! I can smell it!"
Applejack says "I don't know. Maybe we should just quit while we're ahead."
Ronda says "Now's no time for retreat! We won! We have them on the ropes. That brat's finally getting her comeuppance!"
Apple Bloom says "She doesn't deserve all of the hatred she has been receiving in this outrage cycle!"
Ronda says "Point is we're not her parents why should we care?"
"Well i care! I just want some peace between the two of us! Is that too much to ask?" Yelled Apple Bloom
[Knock on door]
"Were you expecting somebody?"
The ponies answer the door and find Fluttershy at the doorstep.
"Um I wanted to talk to Apple Bloom about the conflict that the apples have had to deal with for quite a while. The one regarding Apple Bloom and Diamond Tiara."
Apple Bloom says"Yeah i called her so we can do just that. Discuss our plans to end this. Alone so bye sister! It's been real!"
Apple Bloom and Fluttershy walk together to the mansion of Filthy and they discuss their plan outside
Apple Bloom says "So i think we can convince that we want to end this conflict so why don't we sing a song to prove that we mean it to her?"
Fluttershy says "Why do you think that will work?"
"Songs always seem to work for you Fluttershy. Why else would you randomly burst into song when you are involved in one of your adventures?"
"Good point."
"Applebloom and Fluttershy head inside to find Diamond Tiara crying in her bedroom."
Apple Bloom says "Diamond Tiara?"
"What do you like want Apple Bloom, I'm already grounded for what i have done to you so do you want to punish me some more?"
"No i simply want to solve this conflict between the two of us so we can finally move on."
Apple Bloom transitions into a song
"Our lives are filled with so much hatred, we all know that's not right. So let's work as one, So Ponyville can see the light. We fought many times before, but it's not required anymore! Lets finish this now! Whoa oh Lets end this conflict! Whoa oh Lets end this conflict! Fluttershy comes in"You two don't need to be enemies, you could finally be friends so let's stop bickering, so you can be allies to the end! You've fought many times before, but it's not required anymore! Lets finish this now! Whoa oh Lets end this conflict! Whoa oh Lets end this conflict! Diamond Tiara comes in " I used to be such a snobbish bully but now i can change my ways! I find blank flanks equal to me, I can make sure that hatred pays! We fought many times before, but it's not required anymore! Lets finish this now! Whoa oh Lets end this conflict! Whoa oh Lets end this conflict!"
After the song Apple Bloom and Diamond Tiara have a chat
Diamond Tiara says "I don't like get it, why would you go and come to my aid so quickly?"
Apple Bloom says "Because i simply wanted your constant bullying to end and i figured out that revenge and getting you involved in this stupid outrage cycle was detrimental for the both of us."
Fluttershy says "In fact i have the perfect idea to represent the peace between you two. Just give me a moment."
Fluttershy stepped out of the room.
Apple Bloom says "She will be back in a bit."
Diamond Tiara says "I'm sorry for being such an antagonistic filly i just wanted to have the family connection you have with your sister."
"I understand maybe you can convince your mom and dad to spend more time with you."
"I'll try that."
Fluttershy comes back in with a drawing that shows Applebloom and Diamond Tiara Hoof bumping on top of a podium with the residents of Canterlot and the residents of Ponyville mingling.
"This is what i think will work it's a poster showing a sign of peace to the ponies of Canterlot and Ponyville, This is just a sketch that i made. We need a photo graph of that gesture."
Diamond Tiara says "Did you just draw that while you were outside? Wow! That is a special ability!"
"Thanks! You're going to attend the Canterlot/Ponyville peace rally in two days. We'll take the photo there and use it for the poster for the national campaign. The the two cities will see that fighting isn't worth it."
"Sounds good to us."
Two days later at the peace rally Apple Bloom and Diamond Tiara arrive at the scene at the same time.
Diamond Tiara says "Hey Apple Bloom i know i called you names before but now i just want to call you a friend."
Filthy Rich says "Hey Applejack. I apologize for being so antagonistic towards your family and Diamond Tiara i promise to bond with you more often. in fact do you want to go out for lunch after the rally?"
"Absolutely and you don't even need to get me dessert."
Apple Bloom and Diamond Tiara walk up on stage and hoof bump to the cheers of an elated crowd witnessing the event while Fluttershy takes the picture.
The episode ends with Apple bloom and Diamond Tiara performing a Bump Bump Sugar Lump Rump after the rally ending their rivalry for good. After the rally the two fillies perform a Bump Bump Sugar Lump Rump.
A few feet away Silver Spoon watched the event in tears while she drank a smoothie to drink her sorrows away. "That was our special move!" Exclaimed Silver Spoon.
