Split Between Worlds
Chapter 1: The Beginning of a New Life
Load Full StoryNext ChapterThere goes the freak flying through the air again, I said in my head as I went flying backwards through the school`s courtyard. I went and got myself into another fight with Bulk Biceps. For those of you who are wondering what the hell is going on let me explain. First off, I’m the newest student at Canterlot High, my name is Tiberous Silverfang. I just got to this school not even two weeks ago, and everybody is after me. I have no idea why, I think it's because of my hobbies or something. I’ve tried making friends here but it just ends horribly for me, so that’s why I’m in this fight. As I tried to get back on my feet, Bulk had grabbed me by my hoodie and kneed me right in the stomach. My insides wretched as I coughed up blood. With what felt like a stroke of luck he let go of me, but then kicked me in the jaw, sending me to the ground for the final time. He laughed, he laughed like he always did, and he made his way towards his car. Now that the fight was done, the crowd began to clear. After a minute of sitting in my shame, the only people that remained were six girls. Strangely enough, they seemed concerned for me, but as they approached I felt only dread.
“Are you alright sugarcube?"
Taken aback by the question, I tried to look up at its source. Through my blurry vision, I could just barely make out the speaker, a girl who looked as if she came straight from a farm.
It took some time to formulate my response. I nodded my head weakly and said “I’m fine, just need to rest.”
With that I pulled myself up and began walking towards the parking lot. I didn’t get far, the pain was too much and I stumbled landing flat on my face. I was surprised to find two of their number helping me back up, I thanked them quietly and then spat out another glob of blood. I reached for my cellphone and began to call my parents, but the girl in the fancy clothing moved to stop me.
“Come darling, I insist we take you home ourselves,” she said.
I was stunned but in no mood to argue. Soon enough we were all packed into her car, with me in the passenger’s seat. They talked amongst themselves trying to decide what station to turn the radio to, and when they couldn’t decide they asked for my opinion.
“I don’t care,” I remarked. “Maybe something with jazz?” With that, it was decided.
As we began our drive down the street I was beginning to look out the window as one of the girls asked me what my name was. I told them my name was Tiberous which seemed to bring a smile to their faces. They started to introduce themselves in response. First was the girl with frizzy pink hair who seemed as if she was in an eternal sugar rush.
“Hi I’m Pinkie Pie!” She shouted with enough force to make me cringe. She was cut off by the farm girl who stuck her hand over Pinkie’s mouth, transforming the rest of the girl’s outburst into ecstatic muffles.
“I’m Applejack, pleasure to meet ya. This here is Fluttershy,” she said as she pointed to the shy looking girl next to her who waved.
“And I’m Rainbow Dash, but I’m sure you already knew that.” The girl with rainbow colored hair was actually the captain of the soccer team. She seemed pretty cocky, but was polite enough. Her introduction was followed by the girl who looked as if she planned to be a fashionista. “Hello, I am Rarity, it’s good to meet you.” She never took her eyes off the road, but she smiled and waved all the same.
The last girl had red and yellow hair, she looked as if she wasn’t sure how to go about introducing herself, but finally she spoke. “My name’s Sunset Shimmer,” she made a weak attempt at an encouraging smile.
“Thank you all, for driving me home,” I replied. I shifted awkwardly in my seat as they all looked at each other and giggled.
“Oh we’re not taking you home just yet, dear,” Rarity said. This confused me greatly and I turned my attention back to the road to see where we were going.
We parked across the street from the town’s cafe. They all got out and motioned for me to follow them through the crosswalk. I still wasn’t in any shape to walk properly, so Rainbow Dash and Applejack helped me along. When we entered the cafe, I saw a handful of students who were there for my fight with Bulk Biceps. There was no way I could hide my injuries and most began to laugh as they saw the end result, while others were shocked at how badly beaten I was. They sat me down in a booth, and I groaned as I leaned into the leather seating.
“Would you like anything to drink?” Rarity asked me.
“Iced coffee please.”
My response got me to cough a tad more as I held up my napkin to catch the blood. By the time I had my drink in my hands, the fatigue was really starting to hit me. I tried to sit up more in my seat, but my muscles screamed in protest. I sat there slumped over my drink, sipping at it carefully.
“If only Twilight was here, I’m betting she could probably fix you up.” I looked over to Sunset with a curious expression on my face. “Twilight? Who’s that?”
This made the six girls pause and look amongst each other. “Ya might not believe us on this one,” Applejack said. The entire cafe felt as if it got just a bit more quiet.
“You’ve seen the statue in the front of the school, yes?” Rarity asked. I nodded my head in response as Rainbow Dash leaned in to whisper something. “It’s a portal to another world,” she said through cupped hands.
“So that’s where this Twilight person came from?” I asked. They all nodded in affirmation. The very idea sounded ridiculous to me. “That’s just crazy.” We continued to talk for some time, but after a while I finally looked at the clock and saw it to be five in the afternoon.
“Hey I really need to get home now, my parents will start to worry.” I managed to stand up on my own this time, but still required a little assistance getting to the car. Within the next twenty minutes I was on my front porch waving goodbye to the girls.
I walked up to my home and almost fell in the doorway. My parents were surprised to see me in the state that I was in, and my mom rushed over to help me.
“Where have you been Tiberous, we’ve been worried sick!”
“Sorry mom, I was at the cafe with some people.” Her expression changed from worried to relieved and I began to walk towards my room. Halfway down the hall my older brother asked, “Tough day at school?” I grunted and walked past, opening the door to my room. I fell on my bed to relax, and it didn’t take long for me to slip into a deep sleep.
About two hours later, I awoke to my parents knocking at the door. “Tiberous, is there something you want to talk about?” I got up, my back still a little sore and told them that I was fine. They didn’t seem quite convinced however, and it took some extra effort on my end. “I’m fine don’t worry. I can handle myself.”
After a time, they left, and I slumped back onto my bed. It was a lie, of course I wasn’t fine. I came back home everyday covered with new bruises and cuts, that school was a nightmare. I thought of running away a hundred times, but I always realized I’d have nowhere to go and no money to support myself. It was a crazy idea, but I even started to think more on what the girls said to me.
“That statue, a portal? That doesn’t even make any sense.”
Though, what if? I couldn’t stop thinking about that ‘what if’. It wasn’t long before I was spying on my parents. I found them watching television, completely oblivious to my presence. I hurried back upstairs, locked my door, and began to climb out of my window. When I was finished scaling the side of the house, I carefully made my way to the bus stop. I made it there just in time for the bus to pull in.
“Did you just trek outa Hell, kid?” I heard as the doors opened to let me through.
“It’s good to see you as well, Jordan,” I laughed. It didn’t take long for me to find an appropriate seat on the bus, and I settled in for the short drive back to the school.
When I arrived it was well into the evening. The air was crisp, and leaves scattered about the courtyard in the wind. I stood there, looking at that statue. It was made in the shape of a strong stallion, rearing onto its hind legs in defiance. “Now how the hell would someone climb out of that thing?” I asked myself. I looked to its base for my answer. There was a panel for each side that looked as if it was a cross between marble and glass, smooth and reflective, yet clearly made of stone. I worked my way around the statue, putting pressure against the panels until one of them nearly sucked in my hand. I yanked it out as quickly as possible and fell backwards in surprise. “Well… I guess that was it.”
It was then that I started having second thoughts, jumping through a portal that led to God knows where seemed like kind of a bad idea. Then I thought back to the past two weeks. Day after day was nothing but shame and agony, repeated failure to stand up for myself
“No, I need to do this.”
It took another run back to my house to get prepared, but I filled my duffle bag with clothing and other supplies, including some journals and sketchbooks. I’d been sure to grab a photo of my family and leave a note for them as well. I told them that I’d be back again one day, that I’d be stronger, and I asked them not to look for me.
There was one more thing that I had to do, one more note to write. When it was done, I taped it to the front door of the school.
Dear everyone,
I’m sorry to say this but I couldn’t take this world anymore. I’ve decided to go to a place where I might possibly become stronger in both will and muscle. I’m stepping through the portal and I will have you all in my heart. I know that I will return one day and I will hopefully return better than ever.
Sincerely,
Tiberous
Satisfied with my handy work, I turned back to the portal. I felt a little intimidated by what I might find, and a little scared that I might even die when I went through, but this was something that had to be done. As I stepped through the portal, I began my new life.
