Prologue
Magic flashed brilliantly, lighting up the night like a dozen fireworks exploding in the building. The shapes of ponies and slithering beasts were outlined by the silver of the moon pouring through the ceiling window. They danced circles around the centerpiece of the room as they fought, magic fizzing against magic and hooves impacting with flesh. The small Princess pushed herself backwards with her wings to dodge a snap of jaws where she had stood moments before.
"Enough of this!" she crowed, the light around her horn illuminating her face, "Chaos has no part in the realm of Equestria!"
A cloaked beast sauntered towards her, brandishing a tall staff in its claw. "You aren't as knowledgeable as rumors claim you to be, Twilight Sparkle," he said in a croaking voice, "You defy the natural wrath of chaos almost as strongly as our traitorous leader!"
Twilight stood defiant, her 5 friends falling back from the fight and beginning to line up around her with their attacks readied. "Whether or not Discord meddled with you in the past is none of my business. He has seen the light of using his- somewhat mischievous- antics for the good of our kingdom. Maybe you should follow suit, if he is so important!"
"He may have allowed himself to meddle in the tricks of mere fools, but I pity your arrogance!" he growled, mutated face appearing from the shadow of his cloak and revealing that he was a draconequus. "We don't have our original power, but in the name of moon you shall feel it! Discover the importance of Discord- no matter the cost!"
A massive shatter exploded through the room. Within seconds it sounded as if a thousand wine glasses had been dropped to the marble floor. Shards flung in all directions and Twilight spread out her wings to shield her friends. She screeched for retreat as the dragonequi disappeared in the commotion. Hooves thundered away from the scene and faded into the distance, leaving the destroyed room eerily quiet; only the sifting of dust and glass in the wind breaking the silence until the moon sank away from the window and the sun was risen for the new day...
