Previous ChapterNext ChapterScroll of Modesty Chapter 4: My Pinkie promise part 1 (Revamped)
I never expected this kind of visit. Papa never had the time to mention me, that I have relatives on my Mama's side of the family. So it caught me by surprise. I met my Uncle Igneous and three of my cousins. There's still one more, but I don't know who the other one is or what she like. Is she like these three? Or is she different from them? I wouldn't know, In fact, I'm an only child.
Me and cousin Pinkie continued to look eye to eye. Like looking at a mirror, I see myself from her. It's strange, I don't know how to react to it, or what to say. I'll just have to go with the flow for now.
Pizzaniac. “Pasta taps her on the shoulder.” Do you hear me?
Huh? I mean . . . Yes, Papa? What is it?
Kindly show our guests to the living room dear.
"She nods and replied." Yes Papa. Right this way please.
"Igneous and the three fillies follow Pizzaniac to the living room. The walls are filled with the restaurants' history and near the couch, there's a big portrait of Her and her Papa. They were amazed at how successful their lives are. The three fillies ran towards the couch and hops on it like a trampoline. "
Allow me uncle. "Pizzaniac pulls out a chair for him." Please have a seat.
Thank you dear. "He replies and pats Pizzaniac's head." You sure are a polite little missy.
Yes, she is. I raised her to do so. "Pasta brings a cup of tea to Igneous and a tray of cookies for the fillies." Please, help yourselves.
Why thank you Pasta. Lime, Marble, Pinkie, come over here and thank your uncle Pasta.
"The fillies thank their uncle with a smile." Thank you, uncle! " They munch down on the cookies like hungry piglets, while Pizzaniac watches them from behind. Igneous notices his niece and offers her a piece."
Here you go dear.
Oh, thank you but it's okay uncle. I already ea-
Don't mind my daughter Igneous. “Pasta takes the cookie, placing it back on the tray.” She doesn't eat sweets that much.
Aw, cmon now brother. All little fillies love to eat sweets, “Igneous said as he takes another piece.” it's what they do.
But not my daughter. "Pasta stares at down on Pizzaniac as she looks away." Besides, its against her diet.
Diet? “Igneous curiously asked.” How come?
She is not the kind of filly who's interested in sweets. She's a model to this restaurant you see.
Oh is that right? But how would you know that she doesn't eat sweets?
Because I taught her not to.
Looks to me brother, you're trying to avoid her from the things she likes.
Well, you may think so. But she's aware that it's not the way elegant ponies do.
Why are you insisting her to have that kind of mindset?
Because Pizzaniac is my daughter.
. . . .
"As the two colts are having a discussion, the fillies stopped eating and stare at their uncle confused, while Pizzaniac remains silent."
I'm sorry brother. "He puts back the cookie and felt sorry for his niece." I didn't mean to be rude in your household.
No, I should be the one apologizing, I went too far. I've been stressed out lately with all these orders we had to do. "Pasta points him at the counter table filled with requests from customers." And it's not getting any less. Ever since Pizzaniac here won second place for this month's filly-modeling, we got all these orders.
I understand brother. And I didn't know your daughter had such a good reputation here. "He leans on Pizzaniac and smiled." You're quite a celebrity here.
Yes I-I am. "She blushes and smiles back at her uncle." That's why I can't eat sweets. I have to keep myself fit and healthy.
"Igneous chuckled and replied." I see, you're quite joyful too. Much like my daughter Pinkie pie.
"They both look at Pinkie as she munches on more cookies from the tray, while her sisters watch."
Joyful huh . . .
. . . . "He goes up to Pasta and pats on his back." Now brother, you mustn't stress yourself so often. It's not good for you.
Sigh . . . . "Pasta smiles and replies." I suppose you're right, maybe I do need some fresh air.
"Igneous turn his head at the fillies smiling, like nothing happened. But Pizzaniac's still feels guilty that she started the argument earlier. He couldn't help but feel worried for her only niece. He then got an Idea, he winks at her daughters and they winked back, having no clue to what it means, except for Pinkie pie. She understood it and knows exactly what she needs to do."
Say now, why don't we take this opportunity to stroll around town? It has been a while since I last saw Mitaly with Mia.
Uhh . . . Well . . . The place really hasn't changed a bit so there aren't any good places to go.
Now now, Pasta, It's been years since I last stepped here. The one thing I ever wanted from this visit is taking a nostalgic tour with my brother-in-law.
A tour you say? Aren’t your legs tired from all that walking?
Well, I am a bit exhausted but that doesn't stop me from feeling young.
"Pasta laughs and pats Igneous' back." Look at you. Still holding on to that youth of yours.
What can I say, I won't let my middle age get to me. What do you say, brother? Shall we head out?
Sigh. . Very well Igneous. Since you are my guest I wouldn't say no.
"Pasta looked at Pizzaniac and her cousins. Concerned about leaving them at the restaurant alone. He approaches her daughter, pats her head, and looks her in the eye."
Now Pizzaniac. Me and your uncle are going for a short walk around the city, so better entertain your cousins.
"Pizzaniac nods and replied" Yes Papa. I understand.
And be nice to them Pizzaniac. But keep in mind that you're in charge.
Yes, Papa. . .
Also be on your best behavior. Do you understand?
. . . . Yes, Papa.
"Her cousins watch how she was told by her Papa. Pinkie pie felt bad for her new cousin and then quickly smiled. She thought of an Idea to lift up Pizzaniac's spirits. Then, Igneous walks up to them as well."
Now listen here you three. We're a guest here so I want you to be on your best behavior too. Now, you don't wanna be like your cousin over there, being told her father now, won't you?
No Dad. “Lime Pie shakes her head and replies.” We’ll behave, but I'm not sure about Pinkie here though. . .
Huh? Oh! Don't worry Dad. “said Pinkie Pie and winks at him.” We'll sure to behave right Marble?
“Marble looks at Pinkie and her Father.” Mmm . . . Hmmm . . .
See, we'll be fine, you can go on with your youthful stroll now.
Well . . . alright then. "Igneous turns back to Pasta." Shall we get going, brother?
Give me a minute brother. "Pasta packs two bottles of water, placing it in his pouch
." Ok then. Let’s go.
"The two brothers waves at their children and they waved back. They exit the restaurant and walk on the sidewalk. the fillies looks out the window, watching the two colts going to the city. Pinkie pie is still waves at them."
Bye Dad! Bye Uncle Pasta! Enjoy your youthful stroll! Don't take too long. Oh! And bring back some snacks too!
Really Pinkie? "said Lime pie." Snacks already?
What? I get hungry after an hour.
You ate a tray of cookies!
And there were oh, so delicious cookies too! Muuaaahh! Compliments to uncle Pasta "Pinkie giggled."
Oh, brother. "Lime turns to Marble pie." Even here, she can still be as random as back home.
Hmmmm Mmmmm. . .
Papa and Uncle Igneous left to go on a stroll. Leaving me and my cousins alone. I'm not sure how to interact with them. I never had any ponies at my age stayed in the restaurant unless they were customers, especially not my new cousins. What should I do? Should I ignore them? No that's just plain rude. Should I lay them down with ground rules? No. That would make them think I'm too bossy. This is hard, I can't think of anything!
"The Pie siblings turn their heads to Pizzaniac, looking at her." . . . .
Oh great, they're staring at me. Now my cousins think I'm too good for them to talk to. I expected it that much, I mean I never even had friends, to begin with-
Whoooaaaa!! Hey!!
"Then suddenly, Pinkie pie pulls her cousins towards her and gave her a big hug." Cousin! I'm sooooooo glad that I got to finally meet you!
Yes, yes same here, and out of nowhere too. Now can you let g-
You know, Dad used to tell us that we had a cousin from the Pasta family. Which is strange really, because Pies wouldn't go well with any pasta, especially with strawberry filling. Do you think so too?
Yes, it's quite strange alright. But would you mind letting me g-
Now that I think about it. Maybe we can make a Pie out of cheese with a dash of veggies, tomato sauce, and Oh! have them sliced in eights! Now, what do we call those kinds of Pie?
Hmmmmm . . . I don't know. “Lime Pie walks up to them and guesses an answer.” Uhhh . . . P-Pizza Pie maybe-
Gasp! That's a good answer Lime!! let's call it that! "Pinkie pie hugs her cousin even tighter." See cousin, we came up with a pie name after you! Ah! that's it! From now on we're gonna call you cousin Pizza pie!!
Uh, Hmmmmm . . . "Marble taps Pinkie pie, pointing at their cousin. Who's suffocating from her hug."
Oh! "Pinkie quickly lets go of Pizza pie." Whoops. . . . Sorry about that cousin Pizza pie.
Stop "cough . . . " calling me "cough . . ." Pizza pie! My full name is Pizzaniac peach pie, and it's not a hard name to remember.
Hey, don’t you go mad at us about it, Pinkie pie came up with it.
Yeah, and besides that name suits you well.
Hmmm Mmmmm.
It is? No! I-I mean that sounds silly. I'm a filly who is raised to be a model for our family restaurant! Having a name like that just doesn't fit my personality.
A model? "Lime goes up to Pizza pie, looking at her." Sounds pancy to me.
Gasp! Pa-Pancy! Hey, modeling is professional work!! I get to help our restaurant by promoting it and with Papa's recipes, we've a hit! So modeling isn't a work in a park.
Pffttt. . . Whatever then sheesh. Don't get so worked up about it.
I'm not!
Aw, c'mon cousin. Don't be so uptight. Lighten up, and have fun with us.
Fun? "Pizza looks at Pinkie pie with a grin on her face, then turns her head to Lime and Marble pie." First of all, I don't do fun. Second Papa said that fun is nothing more than getting yourself in trouble, and Third-
“Pinkie went up close to Pizza’s face.” You mean you never had fun around here?! Not even one time?!
Yes, I don't. "Pizza steps back from Pinkie pie." Well, not anymore . . . . Ever since Mama's gone. Everything was never the same. Papa spends most of his days working, trying to distract himself.
. . . . .
But he can't fool me. Every night I hear him crying in his room, holding Mama's picture. I couldn't do anything, I was useless to Papa. Until I decided to be his price daughter, I try be as polite and elegant as I can while helping Papa. When I get an invitation to be a model, I didn't give it a second thought and just went for it. We started to get some attention, and the next thing I know, I made Papa's Restaurant popular thanks to my career.
. . . . . . .
Since then, Papa never feels sad anymore. "Pizza pie walks up to the altar with her Mama's picture at the center." We made this altar of Mama, so she could see what we accomplished together. Papa is finally proud of what I did.
. . . . . .
So to answer your question, Yes I don't do fun. What we do is show Mama that we can still be a family, even with just the two of us. Having selfish fun is just a waste of time.
“After hearing what Pizza said, Pinkie Pie felt sorry for her cousin.” . . . . Gee cousin . . . I didn't know . . . You've been having a rough time. . .
So now you get it? Is to why I don't need fun anymore?
No, I don't.
W-What?! Didn't you hear what I just said? I don't ha-
I know what you said. But you don't really believe in that? right? All that Modeling, polite and elegant acting is just for fancy pants stuff! none of it is fun.
But I-
But nothing. As long as I'm around, you're going to learn how to loosen up and have fun. Now, where's your cutiemark?
My what?
"Pinkie circles around her cousin like a puppy as Pizza pie avoids letting Pinkie get behind her." Your cutiemark silly! everypony knows that a cutiemark tells a pony what they enjoy doing? which also means that whatever ponies cutiemark, is the one thing they had fun doing?! Now, show us that mark.
That sounds ridiculous! There's no way tha- H-HEY!!
"Startled, Pizza turns behind her seeing Lime pie trying to lift her robe covering her flank. She got frantic and pushes Lime pie away."
Hey! that hurt, what gives?!
W-What gives?! what gives is you're trying to pull off my skirt!
You mean a robe.
Whatever! Look, having a cutiemark has nothing to do with fun. It only marks the one thing you're good at.
Aaaannd whatever you're good at means it'd be fun doing it! No more excuses cousin, show up your flank!
"Lime pie looks at Pinkie with a poker face." That sounded wrong Pinkie . . .
What sounded Oh-oh! "Pinkie giggled." W-Whoopsie! What I was saying is, what's your cutiemark cousin Pizza?
. . . . "Flustered, Pizza pie glares at Pinkie and replies." I can't tell you that.
Aw, why not?
Because . . .
Because what?
Uh . . .
Because she doesn't have a cutiemark yet.
Yes, that's righ- W-Wait how did you- EEECCKK!!!!
"Lime pie went behind Pizza pie without her noticing and lifted her robe." Yep, she's a blank flank alright.
"Pizza pie pushes Lime pie, pulls back the robe, and turns her head to the corner."
. . . . .
Cousin . .
No, don't look at me.
Aw, c'mon now, that's not something to be embarrassed about.
Lime's right cousin, I mean it took me longer to get my cutiemark. "Pinkie pulls Marble pie in and rubs her cheeks." Even our baby sister here gets her's last. isn't that right baby sis?
. . . . "Marble pushes herself away from Pinkie pie. She turn to Pizza pie and nodded." Mmmm Hmmm . . .
. . . .
"The Pie siblings look at each other and fells guilty. Pinkie slowly goes up to Pizza pie." Cousin Pizza I-
This is what I mean by not having the time for fun.
. . . . .
I was so focused on helping Papa, I don't time to know myself. Exploring what I'm good at isn't going to make Papa proud of me.
. . . . . .
Since I already learned a lot from being an elegant pony, even doing modeling. Maybe I'll get my cutiemark from either both.
. . . . . . .
I waited and waited, but still nothing. . . . I-I guess what I'm doing doesn't fit for me. Even if I'm good at it . . . .
Well, that only means one thing.
And what's that Pinkie? "Lime pie asked." That-
That cousin here still has a chance to know what her cutiemark is!
I already told you Pinkie. I gave up on looking for it.
Why give up if you never started yet?! "Pinkie pulls her cousin out of the corner." What you're doing just won't do. You have to think outside the box to find your cutiemark. Aaaaannd today's your lucky day because we are here to help you!
H-Help me? Oh- No thank you. I'm fine with just waitin-
No butts! As I said as long as I'm around, I will help you get a cutiemark!
Pinkie, what you said before was helping her to have fun.
Oh, right Lime and that too. Now c'mon, "Pinkie grabs hold of her cousin's hoof." We got a cutiemark to find!
No! Wait Papa said we can't leave the R-Restuaaa!!!!
"Pinkie pie pulls her out of the restaurant and heads to town while Lime and Marble Pie follow them."
I don't get her at all. Why is she so persuasive to make me have fun? I already told her that I can't, I don't have time for that anymore, but she wouldn't listen! "Pizza looks at her cousin while pulling her." Cousin, just what are you trying to prove?
Oh! pit stop! "Pinkie pie stops by a nearby bakery. She dashes inside, glued her face onto the glass counter, staring at some sweets displayed. Pizza tries to pull her hoof off of Pinkie pie, but her cousin got a grip on her and can't get free."
Let go of me Pinkie! Papa might see us outside, we'll be in big trouble!
Don't worry cousin. This won't take long. "Pinkie pie scans through the glass counter, while Pizza still trying to free herself."
"Minutes later, she ordered one dozen muffins, straight from the oven. Pinkie was mesmerized and digs in, while Pizza pie nervously looks side to side at the windows."
Cousin Pinkie please, we really have to get back to the res-acckt! "Pinkie pie shoves a cupcake into Pizza's mouth. Choking, she spits it out on the floor." Pfftaaach!! W- What are you trying to do? Choke me?!
Uh, No, I was trying to make you eat a cupcake silly. So, did it taste good or what?
Or what? I couldn't taste it when you just shove it in my mouth! and didn't you hear what Papa said? I'm not interested in sweets!
Really? "Lime pie made it at the bakery and walks up to them." What are you an old lady or something Pizza?
No! It's just that Papa wouldn't allow me to have some anymore.
Oh, c'mon! can you believe this Marble? Even her Papa controls her eating habits. Talk about sad.
"Tired, Marble arrived at the bakery last." Hmmmm . . . . Mmmm. . . .
. . . . .
That's what your Papa said, not you. It wouldn't hurt to try, so c'mon give it a taste. I know you'll love it.
"Pinkie pie offers her cousin another cupcake. As Pizza looks at it, having second thoughts if she would take it or not. She keeps reminding herself of what her Papa always told her, but she also doesn't want to make her cousin sad. So, she took the cupcake from Pinkie's hoofs and tasted it." . . . .
So, what do you think?
Mmm. . .Hmm. . . I-It tastes good, I mean it's really good. I know what it should taste like, but actually savoring one is way more delicious!
"Pinkie munches down a few cupcakes." See, I knew you'd love it. Nobody can resist a delectable taste of a cupcake.
And it's chocolate too, Hmmmmm!!! I love chocolate. "Pizza takes another chocolate cupcake just before Lime tries to grab it."
Hey! That was mine!
"Pinkie shoves a cupcake into Lime pie's mouth, calming her down." Wow, you like chocolate too cousin?
Oh, yes. It's been my favorite, since Mama- . . . . Since we had some before . . . You know . . . As a family . . .
Aw, cheer up cousin. Where here, and we can get to be your family for today!
T-Thanks Pinkie . . . "Pizza looks at the cupcake she took and hands it over to Marble pie." Here you go cousin Marble, take it.
. . . . “Marble takes the cupcake from Pizza pie and smiles at her.” Mmmm Hmmm . . .
See there you go. Now lets finish up this cupcake and we'll get you your cutiemark cousin! Now, let's dig in!
"The Pie siblings eat and laughs together inside the bakery, without a care in the world. Just as Pizza pie enjoys her cousins' company, she looks out the window and, spotted her Papa and uncle walking on the other side. They crossed the road and headed their way to the bakery."
Oh no! Everyone get down! "Pizza quickly drags her cousins under the table."
Hey! What gives?! Why'd you pull us dow-
Shhh!! Be quiet cousin Lime. Papa and uncle Igneous are outside.
Really!? Where? "Pinkie pie tries to peek out of the table, but Pizza dragged her back in."
Are you insane?! If Papa sees you then we're gonna be in a world of trouble, especially me!
You know, you're worrying too much even though we're actually having a good time.
Be quiet! Now, stay here while I'll check if they're still outside.
"Pizza slowly peeks out of the table and looks at the window, hoping they went pass the bakery. The pie siblings under the table continue to eat the rest of the cupcakes."
Wow, She sure is paranoid when it comes to her Papa, right Pinkie?
. . . . . "Pinkie watch her cousin looking out the window, she felt sorry for her and what she'd been through." . . . . Lime, Marble, we need to help cousin find her cutiemark today.
Can't we just let fate decide on this one? I mean she did say she'll find it eventually.
But what if she gets a bad cutiemark? That she'll end up doing for the rest of her life?!
I'm sure her being uptight for a cutiemark isn't that bad. Besides, she's good at it after all.
I'm serious Lime, this is the only time we can visit cousin Pizza, so who knows when will we come back.
Hmmmm Mmmm.
Ok, well. Got any bright ideas then Pinkie?
Hmm . . . . come to think of it. Oh! Oh! How about the same way how I got mine!
You mean, she has to throw us a party? Heh, as if she'll ever do that, with her being paranoid in all.
No, I mean, we should make a surprise party for her. Yeah! that's it!
How would that work?
Think about it, cousin Pizza never does anything fun right?
Yeah . . .
And parties are considered the source of all fun right?
Hmmm Mmmm.
Sooooo, if we threw a fun party for her, she'll have so much fun that she'll spark her interest in finding her cutiemark again! Even if she can't get it today, We can at least give her the passion she needed to find it on her own!
That doesn't make sense at all. But what the heck, we're in.
Hmmm Mmmm.
Wow, this is a first, Marble here is all fired up. So, where do you wanna throw it Pinkie?
At the restaurant silly, it has all the stuff we need to throw one!
Alright then, what about cousin? "The Pie siblings stare at their cousin, who's still looking out the window."
Don't worry, Let's sneak out while she isn't looking.
Hey! That's my line Pinkie! but good idea! "Lime pie lifts up the table curtain at the other side." C'mon let's go.
"They slowly sneak out of the table and exit the bakery. Pinkie looks back at her cousin, feeling guilty for leaving her behind." Sorry about this cousin, but you'll thank us later once we threw you this party. . .
"Pizza pie sees her Papa and uncle chatting outside. She hides under the window as they pass the bakery, unaware that she's inside. As soon as she doesn't see them, she gives out a big sigh of relief and goes back to the table."
Ok, the coast is clear cousins. We really need to head back to the restaurant an- "As Pizza lifts up the table curtain and sees that her cousins were gone." Cousin Pinkie? Cousin Lime? Cousin Marble? Oh no, this is bad! Where did they run off to?!

Author's Note
As fillies, Pinkie pie, and Pizza pie are two different ponies. Lifewise, they were born in different places, one is raised on a rock farm, the other in a fancy restaurant. One lives her life with cheer, and the other lives under her Papa's rule. In short, no matter how similar the two are on the outside but they can never be the same on the inside.
