The monster in the closet
I don't need a nightlight.
I don't need a nightlight.
"And don't let the bed bugs bite," Cooed Twilight's mother after she tucked her into bed. She placed a kissed on her forehead and got up to leave the room.
"Twilight, do you want your night light?" She asked before leaving. Twilight shook her head vigorously.
"I'm a big girl now," Twilight's mother chuckled.
"Alright, you sleep tight then." She left the room with Twilight putting a huge grin on her face thinking she had just impressed her mother with her bravery.
Moments passed and she sorely regretted rejecting the offer.
The room was quite.
Shadows lurked through her windows creating distortions on the walls. The toys scattered about her floor looked uncanny, as did the furniture. Everything had a looming presence. The room felt almost suffocating.
For comfort, she went to grab Mr, SmartyPants from her nightstand only to whimper after realizing she left Mr.SmartyPants in the play room.
So Twilight did what any sensible filly would do, hide under the blankets. With white noise combined with the beating of her heart and her breathing, Twilight heard ominous sounds projected from her imagination.
Her imagination worked against her for there would be moments where she would think she heard something, only to realize it was just her change in breathing.
The blanket eventually began to fill up with CO2 and Twilight had trouble breathing. Just as she was about to lift up the blanket to let some cool air rush through, she heard a sound that she definitely knew was not a result of her imagination.
It sounded like two pieces of sandpaper being rubbed together. Though, she wasn't sure where it was coming from.
Twilight froze with eyes wide open. The decision on whether or not to check outside the covers was one that clawed at her every being. Two forces, ripping her apart. Curiosity, and fear. She wanted to see what, if anything, had caused the noise, however, she was terrified for that exact same reason.
She heard it again. This time, accompanied by a distinctly audible creaking.
The closet.
The closet was positioned just a few feet away from the foot of the bed, then off to the left. The creaking continued and the sound of sandpaper started to sound mechanical, with a rhythm. It started for a few moments, then stopped.
Twilight at this point was terrified. A few tears began to fall for she knew there was something else in the room. Without a doubt. Sweat began to add to the mix as Twilight became absolutely frozen with fear, paralysis taking over her body.
She wanted to scream, but for some reason she couldn't. As if she wasn't aloud. She felt she had to see the creature in order to scream, as if somehow she was following an unspoken rule that was being enforced by unknown forces.
Everything in her body was in a state of permanent contraction. But as fear and curiosity battled inside her, for a few moments, curiosity had the upper hand and so she was able to slightly lift up the covers.
She didn't see anything, except for Mr. SmartyPants. He stood there in a sitting position with his head slightly slouched and his back facing Twilight.
Twilight just stared at her cuddly companion, wondering how it got back into her room almost forgetting the evil presence.
Suddenly, a sharp crimson spear shaped stick pierced the teddy bear through the chest. Twilight gasped.
Then another, and another. More spears continuously struck the helpless plushy.
Bringing Twilight to tears, she threw off her covers and was about to cry out to leave her friend alone only to see the horrible figure. She was paralyzed.
The figure before her had seven long and lanky appendages. She couldn't tell if it stood upright or not, for all the appendages gave the creature an unnatural posture. It's head was roundish and it had uncountable rows of teeth. Attached to its back were what seemed to be crimson spider legs with sharp pointed ends. It was a nightmare.
Twilight was speechless as she was confronted with the most horrific sight she had ever encountered.
It picked up Mr. SmartyPants and ripped him to shreds in front of Twilight. As if to say, nobody would save her. It could not grin, but it looked like t it tried to.
It threw the remnants on the floor and shifted around a bit. Making that sound paper sound as it dragged its loose appendages across the ground. And then, it stared at Twilight for a few moments even though, it did not have any eyes to see her with.
By this point, Twilight had already released her bladder.
Then, the creature lunged one of it's crimson legs at Twilight. Twilight flinched, however, no pain came. She opened her eyes to see what looked like a piece of thread wrapped around the pointed edge.
The creature attempted to lunge using its different legs. Same results. The creature became immobile with pieces of thread securing the creature in place. The creature didn't make a sound. Everything happened in silence.
The creature fought back, cutting one of the threads, however this proved fruitless as more and more threads began to secure the creature.
In the chaos, Twilight could make out the origin of the these threads coming out of Mr. SmartyPant's head. The image unnerved Twilight.
Once the creature was secure, the threads began to rip off the monster's different parts, only to turn have the pieces turn into harmless fluff after leaving the creature. It drifted slowly to the ground.
The creature continued to struggle and seemed to scream, yet no sound came out.
Eventually the creature was reduced to nothing but fluff. The threads twirled and twisted around, encapsulating the fluff until the final product was created.
It was Mr. SmartyPants. He looked good as new.
Twilight stared at Mr. SmartyPants with horror.
Then, she screamed.
