Hi, sweetheart! Many interesting things have happened with me and Little Cupcake since you’ve been gone.
I finally got that promotion I’ve been working so hard for. Grumpy old Mister Pinchbit, the head of the editorial division, finally recognized my value and worth as an editor here at the paper especially after my followers wrote in telling him that he’d better give me a raise or they were going to cancel their subscription to the Ponyville Picayune. Well, the old buzzard had no choice, he had to give in to popular opinion or risk losing a substantial readership.
With the money I’m getting from the raise I’m able to finally do the improvements on the house that we talked so much about. Lots of painting and fixing-up going on around here these days, you’d love it.
I’m having our bedroom painted that shade of blue you always liked much so I think you’ll enjoy reading about that.
Old Mrs Berry, next door, comes over and visits with us frequently and often makes dinner for us. That’s fine with us since she’s a wonderful cook. She loves to cook favorites for Little Cupcake. At this point the favorite thing she makes that our little girl loves the most is Dandelion vegetable Lasagna. I swear that girl ate four plates of that the last time Mrs Berry made it for us. Little Cupcake loves Mrs Berry.
Speaking of our little sweetheart, she’s doing just fine in school. She’s pulling mostly A minuses and a few B’s but that’s fine with me. I’m not going to push her to try for straight As since her teachers seem perfectly happy with her progress.
She’s made a whole lot of new friends at school, too. Her best friend, now, is a really sweet little filly named Caramel Blossom. I’ll tell you, these two are just thick as thieves! They’re hardly ever apart anymore since just about the first day they met and I’m really glad Little Cupcake’s made such a good and loyal friend.
But I’m happy to say that’s not the only friend Little Cupcake’s made at school. Seems LC’s quite popular and everybody just loves her because she’s always ready to lend a helping hoof to anypony who needs it or give an encouraging word to anypony who might be struggling or having a hard time.
I wouldn’t say LC’s a teacher’s pet but there sure are quite a few of her teachers who sing her praises. That’s not to say she’s perfect or has perfect attendance.
Not too long ago she and Caramel Blossom got in a little bit of trouble when they skipped school, which they knew they shouldn’t have done. When I asked her why she and Caramel blossom did that she admitted that there was a movie playing at the local theater that they just had to see, something about cartoon butterflies or something. They did that because they wanted to do it as best friends, just the two of them. They didn’t want parents around, they wanted to feel grown up.
I grounded Little Cupcake for three days. Caramel Blossom’s mom grounded her for a whole week! Caramel Blossom’s mom even said I wasn’t being strict enough with Little Cupcake, telling me I should have grounded her for a week, too.
I didn’t get mad about that, just smiled and listened good naturedly because I know she meant well so it’s okay.
Some more good news is Little Cupcake, Caramel Blossom and several other of their school friends are doing a school project, together. I don’t know what it is because, every time I ask, they giggle and tell me it’s a secret. At least they did tell me that it has to do with history. Hey, I guess I’ll know soon enough when they show it at the school. Speaking of history, that’s become one of Little Cupcake’s favorite subjects and it’s the one she’s doing really well in but not the only one. You might be surprised to know that she’s also taken a great interest in geography, of all things!
Mom’s doing well. At least a lot better now that she’s over that illness she had. We were really worried for her for a while since she was so sick. It was touch and go for a bit, there. Mom’s home and doing just fine now. She says hi and she loves you and misses you as much as the rest of us. Also dad says hi but he wonders why I write so many letters to you so often. I mean, I know that he knows that I miss you an awful lot but I guess he just can’t figure out why I write so many letters.
Well, that’s about all that’s happening in our lives. We love you and miss you. Wish you were here.
“Do you think mommy will like that letter?,” asked Little Cupcake with a hopeful expression.
“I’m sure she’ll love it just fine, honey” said Easy Breeze to his daughter as he set the letter down on the neatly manicured grass in front of the headstone, laying a pink-ribboned bouquet of roses on top of it. His eyes teared up as he looked down at the grave of his beloved and dearly missed wife and partner.
He blew a gentle, loving kiss toward her headstone then turned to go.
“I miss mommy a lot, daddy,” said Little Cupcake, her face sad, her eyes glistening with tears.
“I do too, babygirl. I do too,” Easy Breeze said. He squatted down and hugged his daughter before they turned and headed down the hill toward the road for home.
